The troll attempts to break free of the roots wrapping around him, succeeding but not having the intelligence to change direction, the brute continues to move through the entangled area, getting 15 feet through it before new vines and tendrils trap the troll once more...

Ilya is up (possibly with a retconned bowshot if he wanted), as is Kalev.

Casimir |
Not bothering to retrieve his sword from the bloodstained grass, Casimir jogs up to stand beside Malthir, drawing his bow along the way.
He then plucks an arrow from the quiver and lets it fly at the entangled troll, imbuing it first with his arcane power.
Comp. Longbow attack + Arcane Strike:
Attack roll 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24
Damage roll 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Seeing his arrow hit home, Casimir casually grins at Malthir.
Hah...wager you 5 gold you can't match that shot, my Baron.

Malthir looks at his friend, not really liking the fact of him making light of the battle that almost cost him his life, but he decides to play along, 5 ft step forward, 5gp it is but I get double if I win since I am using this..., free action drop longsword, move action to draw javelin, standard to attack.
Troll should be 120ft-60ft+15ft-5ft=70 feet away, 2 range increments or -4atk javelin w/smite 1d20 + 5 + 4 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (13) + 5 + 4 + 1 - 4 = 19 dam 1d6 + 4 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 5 = 12
DM Alexander Kilcoyne |
At this point its not worth staying in rounds...
The javelin sails through the air over a great distance... and slams into the troll's back beside Casimir's arrow. The troll finally collapses, and Casimir keeps the beast down with arrow fire until Malthir is able to get close enough to finish the troll off with his flaming sword.
Searching the bodies, Ilya finds little except the javelins the troll carried; and then remembers to search the sack. Inside, he finds a message written in Common, scribed upon a piece of bark. The message seems to have used something thick and furry as a brush, and a few long hairs are present on the bark. It seems blood was used to write the message...
Mighty Troll Lord, Hargulka.
I agree. An alliance between us would indeed shake these lands. I pledge myself to your cause.
Thankyou for your gratious tribute- I will be leaving tonight with my pack and should arrive shortly after your trolls return.
Howls-Of-The-North-Wind.
A bloody pawprint, stained with blood, has been left alongside the message.
Malthir Al Dagon |
Pretty low on stuff, 1 LOH, no smites, no sword action, only down 4 HP's. Have lots of potions though. Do't forget we have like 9 vials of alchemist fire people could use as missle weapons.
Well Guardians, how do we even find them to stop them, we probably shouldn't let them join forces. Track them back to where they met the wolf pack? This will be a touch fight so spent in resources as we are.
Malthir Al Dagon |
Well let us be rid of these bodies at least. I don't want the Trolls or the wolves knowing what happened to their "peace envoy's". Lets burn them and hide our tracks as best we can. If they find out that they were killed by humans, it would probably just lead to some type of revenge upon our people. It would also raise their guard. Right now the are probably a little over confident that we can't do anything to stop them. I see no reason to spoil our element of surprise.
Casimir |
I have expended one spell, and 6 rounds of bardic performance. Used scrolls and items have been removed from my sheet.
Whether we can track them or not, we should probably tend to our wounds first.
Casimir produces his wand of cure light wounds and proceeds to heal his companions and himself.
cure light wounds - Casimir 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
cure light wounds - Casimir 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Once done with the the healing, Casimir counts off 10 shiny gold pieces from his purse and hands them to Malthir.
Your winnings, My Lord.
Now, about these wolves. I'm game for a bit more sport today, if Kalev can track them.
Kalev Lehola |
Kalev will start looking for tracks of either wolves or trolls, but won't go anywhere without the consent of the entire group.

I don't think that we should take these creature lightly, if I remember correctly, the last time we tracked them there were at least 4 Worgs and a Winter Wolf. We have met the Worgs and I am less worried about them but this leader, he could be tough. What do we know about Winter Wolves?
Okay, I am going to have my potion of enlarge ready to consume if we run across them. I say once we have the trolls trail, have Lola scout ahead in that direction and maybe he can spot them on the move and we might be able to have a little time to prepare the remaining potions we have for this battle then. Redshirt was a fine steed, I will miss her. I guess I will be riding with one of you then. That should be 3 votes for tracking them, I think we can start to move ahead. Potion of enlarge in hand once we have their trail. I guess I will ride on the back of either Cas' or Ilya horse since they weigh the least.
Malthir Al Dagon |
I believe the plan is pretty straight forward. Kalev tracks the trolls back to where we assume they met with the pack. As we follow the trail we will have Lola scout ahead of us by a couple of minutes and try to spot the pack before we stumble into them. Once we spot them and their size we make a final decision about confronting them. The remaining alchemists fire get divided up between the party, one each with Ilya taking 3 and Fenna taking 2 for this combat. Invisibility might be useful for an enlarged Kalev for an ugly surprise for them if we have some time, we will see. I will be riding the pack horse with our equipment divided between the other horses.
DM Alexander Kilcoyne |
The trolls' appear to have got hopelessly lost in the area. The disadvantage of this is that evening falls as you follow the tracks and Lola is unable to continue being a forward scout, not having darkvision. The advantage is that you finish off exploring the hex in the process of following the trail.
1000XP each for the troll fight, and 25 for hex exploration.
Approaching a narrow valley between two hills, Kalev can make out the trolls' tracks going into the small valley, and then out again. This must surely be the place you think, although its possible you have been seen by the light you've been using to follow the trail and keep a wary eye out.
Night has fallen by now, FYI for Fenna's abilities.
Malthir Al Dagon |
I have invisibility for the warriors, web and obscuring mist for battlefield control, and one color spray and a wand for any individual enemies. Ready to go.
Whomever is the stealthiest should be made invisible and scout ahead of the group as we slowly move into the valley. Casimir, feet of speed and be made invisible to scout ahead by 150-200feet?
Casimir |
Maybe it is better to set up post here and wait. I'm not sure we want to be fighting on their home turf in the dark. We can keep watch and if they try to slip past us in the dark, we hit them hard. If the night passes without incident, we hit them at the break of dawn.

Sounds good, we will have to relay upon Kalev to tell us if he sees anything with his vision and keep it dark until we do spot something.
DM Alexander Kilcoyne |
You wait in close formation in the dark, with Kalev at the front, eyes peering into the darkness. The clouds above obscure the moon, meaning you can barely see your hand in front of your face at a distance of one feet. Without warning, Kalev spots the winter wolf; a large, mighty creature to rival Red Eyes himself; and three Worg's accompanying it. Snarling in surprise and anger, the beasts immediately ready themselves to charge at the intruders blocking their pass. Kalev is able to warn the group in time for them to act, but except for Kalev none of them can make out anything.

Fenna conjures a light on her armour, revealing the Guardians and allowing them to fight in the darkness. The winter wolf surges forward in a furious charge, its icy teeth biting into Kalev's arm and numbing it somewhat, and tearing him to the ground with its body weight. The other worgs are not visible to Casimir and Malthir, their human eyesight inferior to their allies. You can see the winter wolf's icy breath, somewhat sinister in the darkness. You also notice what seems to be a belt pouch wrapped around its neck.
1d20 + 12 ⇒ (11) + 12 = 23 Attack roll (hit)
1d6 + 7 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + 7 + (4) = 13 (Second D6 is cold damage)
1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 27 CMB success
Although the winter wolf is a large creature, it only has 5 foot reach; started checking since the Wyvern incident.

Round 1 Action
Malthir drinks the potion of enlarge that is in his hands. As a move action draw sword and 5' step up. I should be 5' ahead and 10' to the right of fenna.
Ilya, do what you must to protect Fenna so she can keep the healing spells coming!
DM Alexander Kilcoyne |
Kalev's ranseur strikes the wolf solidly but fails to stop its charge. Displaying pack tactics, two of the worg's quickly charge the prone Kalev (feel free to make AOO's, AC17 remember the -4 for prone though), opening his wounds further with powerful jaws. The remaining worg circles to the left of the melee, moving into melee with Casimir.
1d20 + 13 ⇒ (6) + 13 = 19 +4 for attacking prone included, hits (FF AC)
1d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
1d20 + 13 ⇒ (18) + 13 = 31 +4 for attacking prone included, hits
1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Evil DM! ;)
First AoO:
Attack: 1d20 + 11 - 4 ⇒ (17) + 11 - 4 = 24
Damage: 2d4 + 8 ⇒ (4, 3) + 8 = 15
Second AoO:
Attack: 1d20 + 11 - 4 ⇒ (8) + 11 - 4 = 15
Damage: 2d4 + 8 ⇒ (4, 4) + 8 = 16
Kalev, even though he's feeling the pain from the bites, nevertheless gets up from prone and steps a few feet to the southeast, then stabs at the Winter Wolf.
If he survives three AoO, that is...
Attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13
Damage: 2d4 + 8 ⇒ (4, 2) + 8 = 14
If still needed...
Will Save against Color Spray: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Casimir |
Eager to finish off the worgs already wounded by Kalev, Casimir sidesteps the worg facing him to strike at one of it's packmates.
5-ft step North-East. Two-handed pwr att + Arcane Strike vs the worg NE of me:
Attack roll 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18
Damage roll 1d8 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
DM Alexander Kilcoyne |
As the two worg's charge in, Kalev manages to slash at both with his Ranseur, wounding them both. Casimir steps in and guts the first one that reached Kalev, and then the Ranger attempts to stand up. The winter wolf's teeth catch on Kalev's breastplate armour, unable to get its large mouth around it easily. The Worg has more luck, the vicious magical beast's eyes glimmering red as it tears a chunk out of Kalev's shoulder. Kalev manages to stagger back and out of the way just as Ilya launches a colour spray, his Ranseur hitting only the air as his agile opponents leap aside.
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14 AOO miss
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25 AOO hit
1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Ilya unleashes a color spray onto the worgs, but both the winter wolf and the remaining worg manage to resist the pattern.
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20 Will save pass
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22 Will save pass
I swear the dice roller simply hates color spray... The odds of passing this many in a row with will saves of +3 are very, very low.
Round 2-

Calling upon Aroden's blessings from the heavens, Fenna lays a hand upon the sorely wounded Kalev, healing his wounds with a touch and a spell- just in the nick of time; as the winter wolf shifts its footing and opens its mouth, unleashing a blast of cold air as potent as the north wind that gave him his namesake. The breath extends out fifteen feet, encompassing Kalev, Malthir, Fenna and Dandelion. Fenna and Dandelion don't manage to cover themselves in time and are hit by the worst of the blow; Dandelion falls to the ground dying and Fenna manages to leap off his back and not fall prone herself.
2d8 + 5 ⇒ (5, 8) + 5 = 18 Cure Moderate Wounds for Kalev
DC15 Reflex Saves Malthir & Kalev or take...
6d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 4, 1, 3, 1) = 18 Cold damage
Dandelion took 8HP of damage from a javelin earlier, and was healed for 3. He is therefore on 8/13HP before the saving throw.
Fenna saving throw-
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9 Fail, takes 18 damage...
Dandelion saving throw-
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14 Fail, takes 18 damage...
Fenna Ride Check To Soft Fall-
1d20 ⇒ 19
1d4 ⇒ 3
Dandelion goes down to -10HP. I don't know if you had Fenna's current wounds correct, but if so she is now on 11, please confirm when your back.
Wow that was complex. Malthir is up!

Malthir's sword cuts into the icy creature, earning himself a snarl. Quickly shifting to flank Casimir as Kalev's ranseur is proof against further movement, the worg's attack one at a time, the first worg's attack thwarted by Casimir's breastplate and the second deflected off him by an invisible force.
The worg's are to Casimir's SW and NE.
