Casimir swings his aldori blade and finishes off another Worg wounded by Kalev just as its face contorts in outrage at the word "Puppy", its dying body falling atop its fellow beast. Kalev stands his ground and downs a potion to heal his wounds, and Ilya shifts around the battlefield, protecting the group's healer from the cold blasts of the winter wolf.
Round 3-
Ordered Initiative-
Fenna (acted)- 19
Howls-Of-The-North (acted)- 17
Malthir- 13
Worgs- 9
Casimir- 6
Kalev- 5
Ilya- 4
Aware that Dandelion could expire at any moment, Fenna heals the hound of its wounds and sends it to stand away from the fight, Dandelion still only barely able to stand. The winter wolf withdraws swiftly to the very edges of Kalev and Fenna's vision, too shrouded in darkness for Malthir, Casimir and Ilya to make out from where they stand.
2d6 + 5 ⇒ (2, 5) + 5 = 12 Dandelion healage (puts him to 2HP!)

Kalev Lehola |

Not wanting the beasts to escape, Kalev charges forward (to E11), hoping to impale the winter wolf.
Attack: (Charge, Power Attack) 1d20 + 11 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (15) + 11 + 2 - 2 = 26
Damage: (Power Attack) 2d4 + 8 + 6 ⇒ (4, 4) + 8 + 6 = 22

Casimir |

Both wolves should be within the radius of the light Ilya is holding, if my count is correct.
As soon as the light from Ilya's shining stone reveals the fleeing wolves, Casimir springs into action. Grasping his blade in both hands, he charges at the wounded winter wolf, hoping to finish it off as it recoils from Kalev's mighty blow.
Charge to F10 - Two-handed pwr att + Arcane Strike:
Attack roll 1d20 + 11 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 11 + 2 = 20
Damage roll 1d8 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16

DM Alexander Kilcoyne |

The winter wolf is in dim light, so 20% miss chance for Casimir. 1-20 miss.
1d100 ⇒ 64 Not a miss
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (18) + 11 = 29
2d4 + 8 + 6 ⇒ (3, 3) + 8 + 6 = 20
Kalev charges after the beast, followed moments later by Casimir. Both of the warrior's weapons pierce the potent hide of the winter wolf, Casimir's strike finally downing the beast. The final Worg abandons its dying leader and tries to run at full speed from the battle- Kalev's ranseur catches the beast in the hindquarters and cuts it down, finishing the battle.
Sorry, a single wounded Worg is not worth an extra day in PbP :). Note- A winter wolf skin would look kickass ;). Fenna are you back with us?
500XP each.

Casimir |

Casimir examines the huge winter wolf, making sure it is dead. He carefully removes the sack from it's neck and opens it.
Looks like this Troll Lord is going to have to wait a while for reinforcements. Kalev, can you skin these beasts? Their hides may be valuable, and the head of the wolf will make a fine addition to our collection of trophies.

Malthir Al Dagon |

Well done Kalev, Casimir! We have done a good thing for Kardas by breaking this alliance between the trolls and the Worgs. This valley should be a good place to hold up for the night. Plus the hide will prove that this threat has been removed from the kingdom. I think we could all use a little healing Fenna. What was it around the beasts neck?
Heal checks on us for initial healing then spells from Casimir, Fenna and myself? I will assist Fenna's heal checks.
heal 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22 fenna
heal 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8 fenna's pooch
heal 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13 cas
heal 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21 kalev
heal 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21 myself, if I can
Lay on Hands, myself2d6 + 1 ⇒ (3, 6) + 1 = 10 Ilya was't hurt correct?

Fenna Thistleswade |

"Yes, the sight of this mighty beast felled will surely reassure our people that we shall protect them from whatever might threaten them. And without their leader, the remaining worgs should prove to be of little trouble... perhaps Red-Eyes will be able to absorb those willing to change into his own pack."
When Malthir looks expectantly to the gnomish councilor holding out a bandage, she raises her eyebrows slightly, "It has been over a century since I practiced any forms of healing other than those provided to me by my faith, I fear that any assistance I give in that regard would be quite limited... I will of course lend Aroden's divine healing, but perhaps another would be better suited to the more traditional methods?"
Fenna are you back with us?[/ooc]
Just about, I was a little exhausted last night. If I've caught up correctly, then I think since I've left Fenna has cast two second level spells and a first level spell, right?

LOL's, for some reason I thought you had heal as a skill...anyone in the party have the heal skill? Otherwise I guess we can use my checks, we have a couple of kits now. Anyone want to assist me? :)If we use up your slots now you won't get back those spells correct? You pray for yours at night right?
EDIT: Just me and Kalev I guess. With the +2 from the kit and an assist from Kalev, he has a +6 modifier Fenna, kalev, and I would each get back our level in HP and the same for a nights rest. That's 10 pints for everyone except Cas and 20hp for me so I am down by 2 pts by the am.
DM Alexander Kilcoyne |

Anyone who Malthir made DC20 on can heal 5HP. Mark off one whole healing kit (Treat Deadly Wounds takes two uses of a healers kit unless your willing to take penalties and you didn't). Don't heal the full HP until you survive the night ;).
Casimir opens up the belt pouch around the dead winter wolf's neck. Inside is a small fortune in gems and jewellery; a black gem, a blue gem, a golden gem, a gold necklace inset with an Amethyst, and an exquisite silver brooch.
Appraise checks needed to recognise and value.

Malthir Al Dagon |

Continue east to scout of the next hex as well as investigate the rumors of the rising dead? I talked to Kalev via IM and he is good with it as well...2 votes for killing the dead :) assuming there are no encounters before the morning that is...
EDIT: We will also check the items we found to see if any of them are magical as well.

Fenna Thistleswade |

Ah, of course, I missed that. So I'm only down 2 second level spells currently, but they won't be replenished until tomorrow night.
Continuing east works for me, though I'd have thought that any hauntings related to the stag lord would have occurred in the castle...

Kalev Lehola |

Kalev sets about skinning the animals, then helps with the wounds. Do you want me to roll, or can I take 10 on assists?
When the time comes to discussing the next step, Kalev say I'm all for investigating the rumours of undead, but we should definitely wait til we are at full strength. I've heard frightening stories about the power of the undead, things that even now make me shiver.

With an additional +2 for items with high detail.

Ilya is able to accurately give estimations on the prices you should expect to receive for the items.
One black star sapphire (worth 1,200GP), one blue sapphire (worth 1,400), a golden topaz (worth 1,100). Gold necklace with amethyst inset (worth 300GP), exquisite silver brooch (worth 200GP).

Ka-ching! Along with the reward for finishing of Howls, and any money we might get for the hides, that makes for a pretty good payday. Oh, and did anyone remember to gather some troll blood? I think Bokken needed some. If not, i guess we'll just have to hunt down some more trolls.

Yeah hopefully we can retcon that, we need to get another list of open quests up so we don't forget any. In character time its only been a few weeks not the months it has been in RL...

Malthir Al Dagon |

The dead Gnome's maps show-
A crypt to the east hes annotated as 'The Lonely Barrow'.
'Swamp-Witch Hut' to the south-west.
Gurdin River Ford- east then south-east.
Far to the south-west, hes marked the location of a 'lizardfolk village' by the river leading into the Candlemere.
Close by on the island in the middle of the candlemere, he has annoted 'Candlemere Tower'.
Where the Shrike River becomes the Little Sellen River at the T junction, the gnome mentioned an abandoned ferry station.
All these locations will now only take half the time toexplore with the aid of the maps. Also, you never explored the hex directly west of Swordhaven as you were distracted by Karas' schemes.
Was looking over possible reward for howls and noticed this post. In discussion later that night
According to that Gnomes map we found, wasn't there a crypt in this area? Fenna, lets have another look at it and maybe we can make short work of scouting the area and see if this crypt is the source of the undead.
Malthir Al Dagon |

Agreed. We should definitely camp here.
Yep that is the plan rest overnight and then scout next hex and try to find this "crypt". I think Alex is pretty tied up at the moment though, so we may have to be patient.....ahem....lol's

We really need a map update and a date update please.
You spend the night in the small valley, and fortunately nothing attacks your tired and wounded group while you sleep. The next day, you head east and begin exploring the area. With the aid of the slain Gnome's map, you finish the exploration by mid-afternoon. The area is hilly terrain littered with dozens of small, grassy knolls; and the group almost miss the barrow mound, mistaking it for one of these larger knolls. Kalev notices that the knoll is in fact a burial mound; and he also notices signs of skeletal shambling near the west side of the mount. Small bones and skeletal tracks lead to a crack in the burial mound; the earth near the mound must have subsided to reveal it. The crack appears to lead into some kind of tomb, but it is pitch black inside. Through the crack, Kalev can make out some kind of octagonal chamber. The entryway is fairly narrow, and its clear you won't be able to get your horses inside.
25XP each.
Kalev-1d20 + 13 ⇒ (11) + 13 = 24 (favoured terrain (woods) +3
Fenna- 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19 (16 at night)
Malthir-1d20 - 1 ⇒ (7) - 1 = 6
Ilya-1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
Casimir-1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Kalev-1d20 + 12 ⇒ (7) + 12 = 19

Malthir Al Dagon |

Fenna/Ilya, can you cast light on myself and Casimir? I can take the lead and start into the burial mound. he hands Ilya a sunrod in case he needs it for additional light.
Malthir will not have his weapon out yet.
Ilya, did you prepare Haste today? May even want to take it more than once?

Kalev Lehola |

If the barrow allows it, I should take a place next to you, Malthir. The mere touch of my spear have been known to shatter the undead menaces before, Kalev says, trying to lighten the mood a little.

DM Alexander Kilcoyne |

The thrown pebble goes through the large crack, and lands in the darkness, illuminating a small, octagonal chamber. From what you can see, the walls of the octagonal chamber are decorated with crude mosaics of simple village life: hunting, fishing and farming. A thick carpet of guano covers the floor- it's crawling with insects, and the sharp tang of ammonia hangs in the air. A cobweb-filled tunnel to the east leads deeper underground.

Casimir-1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
As the pebble landed in the room, you heard a distinct rustling of wings from the ceiling in the room- which you can't currently see from your angle. Kalev and Casimir, you believe that its the sound of multiple sets of wings.

Unless someone says something to stop him, Malthir proceeds 20' feet into the chamber asking Fenna to place a light spell on his shield.

Casimir |

Casimir places a hand on Malthir's shoulder.
Careful - there is something moving in there. I heard several winged creatures moving about near the ceiling. Bats, probably, by the look of all this guano. Perhaps we had better have Fenna summon a creature to draw them out.

Fenna Thistleswade |

"I call upon The Beggar's trusted friend," Fenna begins, after a short nod to Malthir, "I ask Z'krunga to go once more into the dark places and draw out the enemies of Man."
Summon a celestial dire rat just past the pebble.

DM Alexander Kilcoyne |

3d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 1) = 9
Hundreds upon hundreds of tiny bats descend upon the rat, banishing it back to its realm through tiny bites in mere seconds. The bats make no move to exit the room, and continue to fly around in a dense, black mass. You can see they will eventually settle on the ceiling again.
The bats will likely surge out of the room to hunt once night falls, as they are naturally nocturnal. You don't think they are likely to
attack you unless you enter the room; nor will they leave the room to attack you unless provoked.

Guessing bat swarm? Does alchemists fire affect them? If so we might have found another use for our stock...
