4 people marked this as a favorite.

Greetings and salutations. I'd like to run a module for people that are new to D&D or Pathfinder.

Premises:

    * You are a beginner to D&D and/or Pathfinder
    * You can commit to at least one posting every other day
    * You would like to run a pre-made adventure -- D0 Hollow's Last Hope in this case
    * That adventure will be relatively short -- enough to give you an introduction
    * I am not an expert PbP GM, but I'm willing to fake it
    * This may lead to follow on modules or a longer campaign

It would not surprise me greatly to find that not enough new folks are interested enough to form a 6 person group. If that should prove true after some days, I'll welcome veteran players who are interested in a diversion.

As for character creation rules, they are simple:

    * Pick a name. First names only are OK at this point.
    * Create stats as per the 20 point buy system
    * All Paizo material is allowed for race. I own quite a bit of 3rd party now as well, so if you are curious about something from another publisher, run it by me.
    * Starting gold: 150gp
    * Pick 2 traits

I will dot as a vet though I'm still fairly new to PF and PbP. I'd be very interested in a longer campaign.

Dark Archive

Not new to Pathfinder but new to online play, would love to join

Liberty's Edge

I am still fairly new to Pathfinder, and very new to PbP, but I am very interested. I acutally have a rouge and a cleric build that are both level 1 and could work really well here. Any preference which I submit?

@Derek Either is fine by me, although you may want to delay briefly to consider what the rest of the group is playing. My style, though, is that I'd rather play with what players really want rather than have players take poorer choices to achieve role "balance". No cleric for to healz? No problem! No sneaky thief to open treasure boxes? No problem! No wizard for to confound enemies and control monsters? No problem!

No up-front melee type? OK, maybe problem.

I'd love to join in. Never played by post before but I'm familiar with Pathfinder (not an expert by any means though!).

This interests me greatly. I have yet to actually play Pathfinder, in person or pbp, but I do have a basic grasp of the rules. I think I'm up for this.

FTR I have created a wizard, my first one for Pathfinder. When you are ready for character submittal I'll present him.

Just got done creating my character. Say hello to Rikkil, the bitter old Ratfolk historian!

Well, at this point, it looks like we have 5 people interested, so please post away with your ideas. I'm not going to be critical of race and class choices other than to make sure we have "legal" characters -- see my earlier comment about forced choices. If you need help rolling up a character, don't be afraid to ask. Otherwise, please just follow the guidelines above and share your characters here in this thread

As for a longer campaign, there are a couple of "Kobold King" modules which are natural follow-on's to D0. We could also branch at just about any point and go off-roading into the great wild yonder of Golarion.

Edit: Heh, ninja'd by Al. I'll follow up on the discussion thread.

Silver Crusade

Here is the main character I was thinking of using. He's built according to PFS rules, which fits your guidelines here. His background was adapted slightly to fit his application for a Rise of the Runelords campaign. I'd be happy to adjust it as needed.

Character submitted in the discussion thread. Just out of curiosity, do you have an expected start date in mind?

Liberty's Edge

I can be number 6 if you want, I am semi proficient in PFS and in PbP
I'll get a character up

@Oswin I'll take a look at all of the characters to date ASAP, including yours. Thanks for creating it and yes, indeedy, PFS rules were the guideline.

@Fyren We could probably start within a few days. By end of the week is my hope.

We could still take one more signup, and I'd like to see everyone "checking in" with their character or otherwise posting in the discussion thread so that we know who's in-in and can sort out the characters.

Liberty's Edge

Sorry, so just to be clear Oswin was my character (which you probably figured out). I can post as him in the discussion thread if you'd prefer.

As promised, here is Krash4031's character: A Dwarf Drunken Master!

I'm a veteran but I could throw together a reliable character to accompany them if need be. Either a fighter or an alchemist to help keep people on their feet and moving (the alchemist in particular).

I have a character idea for this (well actually the same one that started this adventure but ended up dying before we really started).

thing is...I will galdly step aside to allow a new person be in the game. I would rather see more new people get into games first.

the preliminary stuff is in the profile and the backstory kinda leads him to sandpoint but...with his innate lack of direction sense, he could have ended up anywhere.

Thought of giving him the leadership feat and his chort would be named Thomas Thomas...

I would love to play!
I am new to Pathfinder, and absolutely new to pbp. I will make up a character and add it to this post shortly!

OK, here's where we're at so far:

People I have characters for:

  • RyckyRych
  • Derek
  • Fyren
  • Al
  • Krash4031
  • Fulito
  • Necrotizing

People I would definitely like to have play as they are new to Pathfinder:

  • Derek
  • Al
  • Necrotizing Barbarian

That leaves 3 slots. I'd like to give theMortimer and Ptolmaeus another day to get a chance to submit characters. I'm inclined to give preference to Fyren and theMortimer for the remaining slots given that they are new to online play. Either way, I should be able to finalize the party by Wednesday evening.

We actually have enough to field 2 parties, so it might be in the realm of possibility to run the same module with two campaigns concurrently.

as I posted before feel free to Axe Fulito in favor of a new players. if it means getting new players involved in games.

Same here, I'd rather the newbies get a chance to have fun.

EDIT: If you're willing to do two parties, it might be a good idea to stick Fulito into one and me into the other if you're willing to have us along. We could help take some of the strain off your shoulders if need be, mostly fielding questions and the like. In the end it is up to you, I'll write up the Alchemist for you.

@Ptolmaeus I was contemplating that strategy when considering what it might take to run the same campaign twice. Thanks for offering the help.

My only hang up will be my vacation starting July 4 till around the 17th I am not sure how much online time I will have (I will be in the Bahamas)

I'm still "new" the PF and the boards compared to others but I am in plenty of games so I could also be left off to make room for newbies.

Heh, everyone wants to play and then wants to give up their seat :)

I'm as interested to run this module as you all might be to play it. Let's see if the other two folks post their characters in the next day or so.

Here is my crunch, I'll fill in the fluff in a minute but the basic idea is that he is a wandering surgeon with a worrying talent for hurting people as well.

Background:
Dr. Iverness is a prodigal medical doctor from the city of Korvosa. His education has been extensive and the teaching methods... pragmatic. He proved to be a promising student as well, graduating with high marks and earning his doctorate easily. However, he was not fond of the politics and infighting that plagued Korvosa’s Doctor’s Guild and decided that his fortunes were best sought elsewhere.

Outside of the city, he rapidly found his skills in great demand. Most peasants got their health care from the local wisewoman, or cleric. Effective in many cases but not the sort of systematic and pragmatic medical care needed to improve one’s quality of life. He did learn a thing or two out in the countryside and decided to follow his oath to help those he had been charged with while expanding his own knowledge.

Of course, as he rapidly learned, a wealthy looking doctor such as himself would prove to be a favorite target of brigands and highwaymen. After two robbery attempts, the first depriving him of much of his personal possessions and the second much less successful, Dr. Iverness learned that he was as good at inflicting injury as he was at repairing it. A well placed blade could make the difference between someone depriving you of valuable medical equipment and you getting to walk on and potentially save a few lives.

His recent arrival in Andoran was not what you would describe as exciting but he had heard rumors of illness in the area that he both wanted to learn about and ply his trade on. Thusly, Dr. Iverness set his course for Falcon’s Hollow in the hope of earning some coin.

Appearance:
The good doctor is relatively young, and his youth often catches people off-guard. He could be rather handsome if he stopped frowning for a day. He has dirty blonde hair but you can barely tell due to the fact that he keeps it cropped close to his scalp so he does not have to think about it. His eyes are dark and deep set. This combined with his customary frown often makes the young Doctor seem more angry or annoyed than he really is.

The life of a wandering doctor has certainly not brought him any wealth and his clothing reflects this. He usually wears a long and threadbare black cassock as a coat. It was given to him as payment for diagnosing and treating the illness of a local priest’s daughter and keeps the rain and cold off of him well enough. He wears it open over a white tunic and black trousers. His pack has also seen better days and has obviously been repaired several times after inopportune rips and tears.

Personality:
Dr. Iverness is a serious young man with an appetite for knowledge. His somewhat mercenary ways are often tempered by his seemingly altruistic urge to treat and help the wounded and sick. When questioned, he often defends his actions as following his part of his oath...

”I will preserve the purity of my art.”

So he often helps those who do not have the means to pay him back despite his cold pragmatism in many other aspects of his life.

Sczarni

Is there room for one more?

Sczarni

I can have a character posted within the next couple hours if there is.

Sczarni

OK, I have a character put together if your taking one more, its a Human Synthesists Summoner, if you will take me I will input it all into an alias, if your full let me know so i dont waste the time..thanks..=}

Sczarni

OK, Just realized that the Synthesis summoner is not a sanctioned PFS character, so I have several other ones to use as well, I'M relatively new to pathfinder, I've only been involved in one other game, I want to GM this particular module for my kids, and i am interested in running it with you guys first.

hope this game starts moving soon...

or I may miss the start Once my vacation starts.

@Fedorean are you offering to run this module? If so, perhaps we can split the groups up in some fashion and run this concurrently. If you're offering to play I'll put you on the list of veterans.

@Fulito I'll try to get things organized by end of day (US/Central).

great! I will be working until sometime this evening, so if you pick me I might not see it right away... I should be home around 7 or 8 USPacific Time at the latest

Sczarni

I would like to play for sure, Ive only ever GM'd for my kids at the house, but if you want I would try to have a go at doing it on here, Im not sure how to do maps on here, but if you can explain id be more than happy to try my hand at GM..up to you though. I'm on here several times a day and Im pretty active.

Don't believe you can have embedded maps here unless you're an ascii artist Fed. :) You can choose to rely on maptools or some other third party app but sometimes, one's imagination can be a rather powerful tool!

Sczarni

on the other game im playing hes using some kind of google app, like drive or something but not sure how hes doing it, there is a maptool that i was playing with at pyromancers but couldnt get it to work right.

Grand Lodge

soo..... let's start! :)

Sczarni

So whats up with this game?, is it starting or has it petered out before it bagan? Just need to know if I'm in or what so I can turn my attention elsewhere if not..=}

Wow, this group is raring to go. My apologies for not kicking things off last night -- something came up that prevented my presence at the keyboard.

At this point, it looks like we'll be splitting off into two groups with 2 games running. One run by Fedorean and one by myself. I'm waiting confirmation from him regarding this. If this is the way we go, and assuming that no one objects, we'll split the applications into 2 evenly mixed groups of veterans and new players.

If Fedorean declines, I'll round out the original party and we'll get started.

Grand Lodge

Correct me if im wrong, but i believe fedorean wants to play to become more familiar with the module so he can later DM for his kids at home.

or at least i think that was his original intent...

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I would have played, but Im good with GMing as well, It will get me just as or more familiar with the module than playing will, it will be good practice..=}

(this is Fedoreans GM alias)

Ok I set up a new thread for the ones that are coming with me, D0 Hollow's Last Hope #2

Unless there are any objections, here is how I propose we proceed:

Party "1"
Tobian
Oswin
Belrick
Ptolmaeus
Fedorean

Party "2"
Rikkil
Morzul
Fulito
Cold Eyes

These groups were chosen with an eye towards mixing new player with veteran, and to try to keep something of a balance between class types.

Players in party 1, will you please proceed to our discussion thread and sound off so I know you're still with us. Players in party 2 can check in with GM BigBusMan on his new campaign recruitment thread.

GM BigBusMan and I may be sharing notes and campaign resources. Maybe we can cook up some sort of interplay between the groups down the road.

Liberty's Edge

Is there any room left for new players?

Big_Ben, there may very well be. Can you prepare a character and check in on GM BigBusMan's thread? Assuming everyone else is still on board, that will mean 2 groups of 5 players.

Big Ben check in over on my thread please, Ill take you on..=}

Liberty's Edge

Thanks I will check in on that thread.

Greetings.

I'm new to pbp as well, and am releived there are adventures for the rookies amongst us.

I'd like to join with my alias, who's a CG oracle of Dark Tapestry.
