GM Rutseg |

No problem, I understand it is being a bit convoluted :)
We are still in the same round of actions as when you fall fascinated, so if you were to use dimension door, it would go off now. Next round you can attack with the claws.
Do you wish to carry Cinnabar or someone else with you?
Only missing Malen's action!
(and Ilsa can chose something else instead of dimension dooring if she wishes so)

Zamanda |

Moved Cinnabar to beside you.
(You might want to clarify that she shouldn't kill Mirya (yellow) who is unconscious though... that would be devastating to Bash.)

Kalem Darkborn |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Bashiel, you might want to consider this feat:
https://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/general-feats/change-of-heart/
Prerequisite(s): Base attack bonus +6 or monk level 6th.
Benefit(s): When your melee attack would reduce an opponent to 0 or fewer hit points or render the opponent unconscious, you can elect to forgo this damage and instead attempt a Diplomacy check to influence the target’s attitude.
The DC of this check is equal to 20 + the creature’s Hit Dice + the creature’s Charisma modifier. You gain a bonus equal to half the damage you would have dealt and can use your base attack bonus instead of your ranks in Diplomacy. Unlike with a normal Diplomacy check, you can increase the target’s attitude toward you by more than two steps. You can use the benefits of this feat only against enemies who attacked you and whom you did not attack or otherwise provoke first.

Zamanda |

Can we maybe get Mirya on the status list? Since there is a different maiden in yellow now, I can't keep track of where she is and whether she is threatened, and although my character might not know she is there (depending on whether we noticed that interaction), I would still like to have some indication of whether she is alive, to keep track of the story.

Bashiel Eland |

Nice find Kalem! I saw that feat myself a while back and ended up deciding that it was too impractical and too gamey for my taste.
Also, I'm kinda assuming that Mirya was taken off the list because she's alive, unconscious, stable and out of the picture until the combat is over, and I don't have to worry about her status.

Zamanda |

That would be awesome, but Cinnabar was commanded to kill the gray maidens, so I'm a bit worried.

Bashiel Eland |

Real talk: I was REALLY hoping we'd be capturing a bunch of Maidens so that they can be "deprogrammed" after the campaign is over. Considering how much we seem to outclass their rank and file members, it would have been easy to subdue them instead of killing them.

GM Rutseg |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

I have added Mirya back to the tracker.
Deprogramming would be tough. I am no specialist on trauma and war effects on soldiers but I think it carries on for life in many cases.
That said, I am all about letting you carry things where you feel it more rewarding, so I think many, or at least some, of them are salvable with some effort.

Zamanda |

Bash... agree in principle. Zamanda didn't want to fight them in the first place. However, it would be ineffective to try to fight them with the negatives that trying to fight non-lethally would necessitate.
As long as they are up and trying to kill the party, Zamanda is going to try to kill them back... but the ones that go down and aren't completely dead I would like to stabilize and help.

I think it's a nice concept to liberate and free those that have been indoctrinated.
But to Ilsa, we're on a fast-moving secret mission and trying to keep them off balance. Where we have no ability to take prisoners, help them see the error of their ways, etc., that means that any we leave alive we will face later.
I'm all for sparing your girlfriend, but any others just seem like foes we will have to vanquish twice.

GM Rutseg |

I was yesterday preparing a session for today's RotRL game when I posted, and I somehow mixed up stuff and thought Zenobia had a rod of absorption. But not, alas, I realized today it is an object Jordimandus from the Runic Forge is holding. Sorry for the mistake Ilsa!

GM Rutseg |

I’d happily take the dusty rose prism ioun stone. Kalem’s AC is only good when he is raging. But given that his rage AC is sufficient, I won’t argue if someone else wants it.
Breaking spoiler honor system Kalem? Bad guy :)
Please, do not make me ask you for rolls instead of including information in spoilers. It is slower and worse for everybody.

Heads Up -- I will be traveling/visiting with family starting November 18th through December 2.
Traveling days I won't be able to post (driving cross-country), and I am not sure whether I will have time while visiting with family, so please feel free to either bot my character or put her on ice in the meantime.
Apologies for the extended absence. I'll be on mostly normally till Wednesday, so if you have questions/requests before I go, let me know.

GM, we can just say Malen has a passive 39 on Perception for 1 hour, if you like.

+2 invulnerability elven chain. This means AC +7 with Max Dex +4, ACP -2 and DR 5/magic.
Not a good choice for me, as it would be -2 AC and I already have DR/2 silver. I think that Ilsa could make the best use of it. She is currently wearing elven chain +1, so it would be an AC increase with some DR.

So, congrats, you have completed 2/3 of the AP in just 3 and a half years. It tells good on how active this party is. Quite a milestone to celebrate! :D
In addition to cherish yourselves and level up to 13th, this is also a good and natural point to sell stuff and buy new equipment.
After your victory with the maidens, they have to retreat to the pyramid and the Red Mantis also disappear from the city for now. This helps stabilize the city and some businesses start to open again.
This means Korvosa stats come back to restlessness state, which translates to a Base value of 8800 gp and a maximum purchase limit of 50000 gp. Access up to level 6th spells is also granted.
For any item you would like that is out of the 8800 gp limit, let me know and we will discuss about possibilities of getting your hands on such a thing.

He can also cast Boneshatter. DC19 or 13d6 damage and exhausted for 13 minutes. On pass takes 1/2 damage and is fatigued instead. Skeletons and chitinous creatures take +50% damage.

Awesome! I think this is a great time to remember in thanksgiving our wonderful GM. You do a fantastic job, and again I appreciate you coming in to save our game! This may also be the highest level I've ever reached.
Level 13:
Class Taken: Mesmerist
Class Feature Gained: manifold tricks
Hit points Gained: 1d8, +2 Con, +1 favored
Skill Points (5+1): handle animal (1), intimidate (1), perception (1), stealth (1), spellcraft (1), use magic device (1)
Feat: improved eldritch heritage (Ravenous Frenzy--haste 13 rounds/day)
A few other notes. I can now implant 4 tricks in different people. I'll be one of them. I think having Kalem, Bashiel, and Malen is probably the best bet. Zamanda usually has some pretty good tricks of her own. Remember that I probably have enough tricks for most to use one per combat. Here are the tricks. It's probably a good idea to let the GM know which one you'll typically use and then try to remember you have it!
*False Flanker: A duplicate of the mesmerist appears momentarily, as though he were fighting in tandem with the subject. The mesmerist can trigger this trick when the subject moves into or begins her turn in a square where she threatens an enemy. An illusory duplicate of the mesmerist appears in any unoccupied space adjacent to that enemy. This duplicate counts as threatening the enemy for the purposes of determining flanking, but can’t actually make attacks. The duplicate disappears at the end of the turn during which the trick is triggered. This is an illusion (figment) effect, and a creature that interacts with the false flanker can attempt a saving throw to disbelieve the effect.
*Mask Misery: The subject can shrug off a condition for a short time before succumbing to it. The mesmerist can trigger this trick when the subject becomes affected by a minor condition listed under the touch treatment ability. The subject can ignore the effect of that condition for 1d4 rounds, after which the subject takes the full effect. This has no effect on any conditions affecting the subject other than the triggering condition, even if those other effects are also listed under touch treatment. The rounds during which the subject ignores the triggering effect still count against that effect’s duration; if the duration of mask misery is longer than the effect lasts, the subject isn’t affected by the condition at all. If an effect that imposes more than one condition triggers this trick, the subject ignores all eligible conditions. If the mesmerist is 6th level or higher, he adds the moderate conditions to the conditions he can ignore with this trick, and this trick ends minor conditions entirely instead of suppressing them temporarily. The mesmerist doesn’t need to have touch treatment to choose or use this trick.
*Meek Facade: The subject magically seems like a weak target, goading an enemy into attacking her. The mesmerist can trigger this trick when the subject misses a creature with an attack (even if it’s part of a full attack in which she hits that creature with another attack). The enemy must attack no one other than the subject, and the subject gains a +2 dodge bonus to AC against the triggering enemy’s attacks. Both of these effects last for 1 round. The bonus to AC increases by 1 for every 5 levels the mesmerist possesses. This is a mind-affecting compulsion effect.
*Mesmeric Mirror: An illusory image appears near the subject to throw off attackers. The mesmerist can trigger this trick when the subject is attacked or becomes the target of a spell that requires an attack roll. One duplicate of the subject appears, and the attacker must determine randomly which it hits (as mirror image). For every 5 class levels the mesmerist possesses, one additional image appears, to a maximum of five images at 20th level. Each image lasts for 1 minute per mesmerist level or until destroyed. This is an illusion (figment) effect.
*Spectral Smoke: A cloud of smoke pops up around the subject, foiling attacks. The mesmerist can trigger this trick when the subject is targeted by an attack or by a spell that requires an attack roll. A smoke cloud appears in the subject’s square and in a 10-foot radius around it. This cloud lasts for 1 round per mesmerist level. The cloud functions as fog cloud, but is an illusion (figment) effect that can’t be dispersed by wind and can be used underwater. A creature that interacts with the cloud can attempt a saving throw to disbelieve the effect. The radius of the cloud increases by 5 feet for every 5 caster levels the mesmerist possesses, to a maximum of 30 feet at 20th level.
Spell Anticipation: The mesmerist can choose a spell to strike back at enemy spellcasters. When the mesmerist implants this trick, he must expend one spell slot to couple a spell he knows of that level with the trick. That spell must have a casting time of 1 standard action or less and be able to target one creature (spells like dominate person that have more restrictive targeting can be used, but have no effect if triggered against creatures that don’t match). He can trigger this trick when the subject is targeted by an enemy’s spell. The mesmerist’s spell then triggers, affecting only the enemy spellcaster. This takes effect only if the enemy spellcaster is within range of the spell (as measured from the subject of the trick), and functions as though the mesmerist were in the subject’s square. The enemy’s spell still has its full effect, even if the mesmerist’s spell would normally protect against it or make the caster unable to cast it.
@GM: I'll typically be preparing Spell Anticipation, and then casting Feeblemind as my spell. Also, I'm going to cast Spite for any times I'm struck in melee, with Bestow Curse as the spell associated with that.
@All: I didn't mention the elven chain armor we found earlier, since I didn't know if we had identified it. But I would be interested in claiming it if no one else wants it. I'm assuming we'll now have time to identify everything we found.

Bashiel Eland |

Level 13 Paladin level up:
HP up: 1d10 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7 +1 for FCB for a total of +8 this level.
BAB+1
Skills (4 points): Diplomacy, KN:Religion, Perception, Spellcraft.
Feat: Critical Focus
Only class features are +1 1st level spell/day and an extra use of ghostly smite and angelic bond each day.
Sadly, with only 16 Cha, no 4th level spells this level. At least not yet.

Bashiel Eland |

Not sure. We'll see how the gold situation looks like in a bit. I'm also OK just waiting a level TBH. 4th level spells are good, but we've not been struggling.
----
In other news, I've filled out prices for the loot we've picked up. There was a heck of a lot of consumables. Please take a look at the list and put your name next to things that you'd like to keep. I've jotted some names down to stuff if we already had someone claiming them in gameplay.
As far as consumables are concerned, my suggestion is to hold onto the scroll of heal, scroll of break enchantment, wand of cure critical (40 charges), and scroll of resurrection. I think the rest we can afford to sell without too much worry.
There are six items in the list left to identify, including two from our most recent escapade.
Once people have had a chance to choose the items they want to keep, I'll run the numbers and we'll see how much gold is left over after sales.

![]() |

Thanks for updating loot, Bash. I wish I had a better spellcraft.
Once we can ID it, I think I'd like the +2 Str/+2 Con belt if no one else wants it.
spellcraft belt: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22
spellcraft magic jar: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14
spellcraft rapier: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
spellcraft scrolls: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
spellcraft potion: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10
spellcraft ioun stone: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19

GM Rutseg |

magic jar -> no
rapier -> no
scrolls -> I need more info, at the least which ones of that stash you already identified as they do not appear anymore in the loot sheet
Cinderlander potion -> no (remember you can also use Perception to identify potions)
For the items I gave you, you can find a spoiler on the relevant post to find out if you succeeded on identifying and what the item exactly is.
I do suggest you add the #post where the items where given, at least for unidentified ones, to ease you and the GM a lot of time when handling items ;)

Zamanda |

I posted yesterday, but apparently it got eaten... I leveled up. I think the significant parts were that my arrows now have the distance enchantment and I jumped up my Spellcraft score.
Assuming these will be the same rolls as yesterday, but leaving out the ones Ishta got:
Spellcraft (magic jar--Scream): 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (14) + 15 = 29
Spellcraft (rapier--Bahor): 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (14) + 15 = 29
Spellcraft (Cinderlander potion): 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (8) + 15 = 23
Spellcraft (ioun stone--Maidens): 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (18) + 15 = 33

Bashiel Eland |

Scrolls were from the Lissalan(?) temple in the Cinderlands. This post. We successfully IDd the other scrolls as Clairvoyance and Dimension Door, but missed on the last set of two.
@Zamanda: we still need a successful ID on the Belt, since Ilsa's 22 doesn't hit the DC27.

Zamanda |

Oops, sorry.
Spellcraft (belt): 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (4) + 15 = 19
Looks like I can't tell what it is either... sorry. Will have to keep trying.
I forgot to mention, my feat was craft wand. Thought I could make us some wands before we go, if needed.

![]() |

Since it would be nice to ID everything before we leave, why don't we buy a few scrolls of identify before we go?
Do we know how much we each have to spend?

Bashiel Eland |

*thumbs up* for scrolls of identify.
I'm not sure what wands we would benefit from Zamanda, any suggestions? In other games I've never thought to buy much more than a wand of mage armor or cure light wounds (or one poorly thought out rogue who bought a wand of vanish). I guess Heroism might be nice if you have it?
Ilsa (and everyone else), I've just waiting for folks to finish claiming items in the Loot Log before distributing the gold. It would help if people chimed in that they've claimed everything they wanted to, so I know its good to go.
Also, whats the plan with Cinnabar? She's dominated for a few more days, right?
Double also, group thoughts on:
As far as consumables are concerned, my suggestion is to hold onto the scroll of heal, scroll of break enchantment, wand of cure critical (40 charges), and scroll of resurrection. I think the rest we can afford to sell without too much worry.
?

Kalem Darkborn |

"As far as consumables are concerned, my suggestion is to hold onto the scroll of heal, scroll of break enchantment, wand of cure critical (40 charges), and scroll of resurrection. I think the rest we can afford to sell without too much worry."
I agree with this statement in whole.

![]() |

Thanks, Bash. I think I've claimed the couple items I wanted.
As for wands, False Life is a nice one. There are generally good posts on good wands to craft if you're looking for other ideas. Pretty good utility items, but will want to make sure they are spells you cast a lot.
As for Cinnabar, I'd like to keep her with us. She should be good for a day per level, and I can re-cast the spell later. I don't think she can make the save, since I also cast Bestow Curse on her to tank her wisdom. I'm also a bit interested in the idea of redeeming an assassin who was brought into the profession against her will.

Malen Arturian |

I agree with your statement on the consumables, Bashiel. I don't have any claims to make.

Zamanda |

I don't think I can cast false life, so I couldn't make that a wand... unless we can work together for that.
I could make wands of cure light, greater invisibility, haste, fireball...? Just would have to figure out how much it costs for those higher level ones so we could see if it is worth it... but greater invisibility might save us from a lot of fights, or give us a nice advantage IN fights...?

Malen Arturian |

I think we might be time-limited to level 1 wands. It's supposed to be 1,000 gp per crafting day, I believe. So it'd take 1 day for a level 1 wand, but 30 days for a level 4 bard wand. And that's if you were doing no adventuring. There are probably feats and other things that cut that time down, but it still seems prohibitive.

Zamanda |

Okay, oh well. :) Have Zamanda just go along with whatever you guys want until I get back from vacation. Sorry I haven't been able to be more active and do more research lately.

About identify: Someone among you should have access to Zellara's Harrow Deck, which among other things can cast identify 3/day.
This also reminds me, have you been using Harrow Points or Hero Points in this campaign? If you have, how have the previous GMs managed harrowings in the past? Is this something you have enjoyed in any way or you would prefer to skip this subsystem?
About wands: You can find here the prices for wands. You can half the time of crafting with a +5 to the DC of the check. We have no time constraints, you are fine to remain a couple of weeks laying around in your successes and helping the rebels to build up connections or in other minor missions.
Of course, if you tell me you want 6 months for crafting, that will soon become more problematic.

Bashiel Eland |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

I completely forgot (or maybe never realized) that Zellara's deck has things she can cast!
We were using Harrow Points, but only tapped into them a couple of times over the years. I'm OK with using them or skipping them going forwards. Snowheart and Zek did do Harrowings for us too, which were quite fun (and mysterious), but I know they take a lot of work and creativity on the GM-ing side. Considering how much effort you're already dedicating to us Rutseg, I won't mind if you want to skip them.
@Others: Will be finalizing loot sales tonight. Not sure if we want to stick around longer for crafting, but I think there's a fairly pressing reason to continue right away or with only a week of downtime.
Also, we already have a wand of haste in the group resources in the Loot Log!

Looks like I lied about finalizing loot sales yesterday. Here's what you've been waiting for.
After sales and item distributions, here's the gold income:
I went ahead and reorganized group resources into clearer categories so we can better track what goodies we have available to us. We may want to assign that wand of haste to someone to have at the ready for fights.

That’s a lot of gold! Thank you so much for putting this all together!
So I have: 1734 + 17182 = 18916
I’m going to spend 8k on a Pink Rhomboid Ioun Stone (+2 Con). Do we have 3 days for Kalem to implant it?
Also upgrading my Wayfinder into this: headband of twisted intellect because damn it’s cool. Costs 8k.
For the headband, do I choose what skill it gives?
And finally a ring of sustenance for 2.5k.

Bashiel Eland |

After sales and item distributions, here's the gold income:
Bashiel +20532 gp
Kalem +17182 gp
Ilsa +8857 gp
Zamanda +18932 gp
Malen +28932 gp
Oops, I typo'd Malen's gold. It should be +23932 gp.
