Seeing a gap open up in the melee (Thanks Io! :) ), Machaera tries to get into position for when her grenade finally goes off. Acrobatics: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13

If that's enough to slip by...
In the meantime, she sheathes her dagger in magic and slashes low at the thug unbalanced by the Albatross’ furious attack. Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10 (+4 more, for a final total of 14, if that one's prone.) Damage, if hits: 1d4 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 2 + 1 = 6

Spending an arcane pool point to enhance her weapon. If I'm counting right, the grenade should go off just before Machaera's next turn, I think.

If so, Yanis targets the closets standing guard and Physically tells his body to collapse knocking the guard prone. Will save DC 15

Yup he can if he moves up.

guard save roll vs Collapse: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (10) + 0 = 10
Io trips another guard, but the second one manages to avoid her sweeping feat. Albatross's baton slams into the fallen guard, knocking the air out of his lungs, while Machaera's dagger sinks into his thigh, drawing blood. However, he is still conscious. Headsman's axe swings awry, the odd angle from the stairs throwing his aim off. The Black Merlin's club slams into the guard he shot, drawing a grunt but not dropping him. Yanis's mental command forces another guard to go prone.

Guard 4 attempts to stand up. Io, Machaera and the Albatross roll attacks of opportunity If he survives, he swings at Io.

Guard 4 stands up and swings at Io
Longsword slash: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

Guard 5 stands up and swings at Io
Longsword slash: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11

Guard 6 drops his bow and swings at Io
Longsword slash: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18

Guard 7 fires an arrow at Albatross
arrow: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (1) + 0 = 1

Guard 8 draws his longsword and slashes at the Black Merlin
Longsword slash: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13

The guards spectacularly fail to connect with any of their attacks. Apparently they're still working out the kinks with those longswords and bows...

I'd like to think it has more to do with being caught in awe by our awesome entrance.

The black Merlin sees the guard in front of him reaching for his sword and uses the cape attached to his free hand to wrap and deflect the coming swing. In a fluid motion his other hand brings the club around again to strike the guard's temple.

Club: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (1) - 2 = -1 -4 for dealing nonlethal

Caught up in the attempt to deflect the swing, the Merlin's own swing goes well wide of the mark. Keeping a mental count of the grenade in his head, the beaked man brings his short cape up to cover his eyes.

Yanis, they're all prone and unconscious. Did you want to tend to the wounded? @Machaera, Technically via RAW, you can coup de grace for non-lethal damage, but then the target has to make a Fort save vs the non-lethal damage or die. You can go knock them unconscious using normal weapons since they would have ACs of 10, and you get +8 to hit since they're helpless and prone.

Also @Yanis, collapse can also be used to fatigue, sicken, or stagger a foe for 1 round/level in addition to knocking them prone for 2 extra power points, and eventually you can nauseate them for 4 extra power points. IE, you can make people suffer all the side effects of a keg party in college.

Hmm. I suspected as much. Ah, well: as a magus, Machaera usually has a hand free, so as you said, she can always just throw ordinary nonlethal punches or whatever at temporarily helpless enemies and hope to knock them out. Elven nerve pinch!

… What? That’s totally a thing. It comes with the pointy ears, ask anyone. Elves, Vulcans, catgirls… ;)

Before she can even adjust her own stance, Machaera sees Io spring into brutally efficient action, making sure that the gang members won’t go anywhere for a good while.

Instead, she turns to Yanis as the doctor appears at the top of the stairs. Catching the undertone to his remark that these men need a doctor, Machaera replies grimly, with a nod, “Let’s keep it that way.”

A moment later, her mage’s mind turning over the possibilities, she adds, “Doctor, the way you connect to people, and perform your healing… could you draw upon someone else’s rather than your own reserves?”

As she asks, Machaera’s glance combines with her restless posture to suggest nothing other than a cat anticipating a particularly scrumptious mouse. Something to bear in mind, if he can heal us and keep our foes indisposed at the same time. (Yes, out of character I gather Yanis has that nifty “Steal Health” ability, but I thought playing out the penny dropping as the mage considers the possibilities of Yanis’ discipline would be fun. For any healing we need right now, vamping these goons will only make it easier to keep them in slumberland.)

Unless she needs to pitch in in subduing the Cow Hammer Boys, including Baldrago, Machaera will move to throw open the door to the room at the back of this floor, pistol ready if anything inside moves the wrong way.

Is the group leaving the two bleeding ones to die? Io knocks them all out, btw. @Machaera, so you're saying an elven Vulcan catgirl is your next character goal? Noted.

Machaera nods at Yanis’ explanation, filing that tidbit of information away as a useful thing to bear in mind. I think the Field Marshal said he was a good bowman, which doesn’t seem to describe any of these men, really, and that he used a spear close in. What else?”

Oh, right. She hesitates a bit as she tries to find a half-way to tactful way of putting it to a group mainly composed of human men. “And he’s supposed to be a handsome man,” she concludes briefly, her eyes flickering disinterestedly over the unconscious thugs. Sensibly, Machaera keeps her thoughts to herself as she tries to think what she’s looking for. So, a bit short, stouter than most anyone, generally square around the features…

With that retort, she throws herself into cover to one side of the door, holstering her weapon as she goes.
