Ok, Ok...Venssa is now crunch complete!!!
excellent. So we've got quite the cast of characters here, but it looks like with backgrounds it'll probably come out reasonably well balanced (at least for low level play).
As it stands, we have:
Venssa: female forest gnome druid 1 (background pending)
Finlogan: male half-elf fighter 1 (outlander)
Cole Hillman: male human ranger 1 (soldier)
Rankev: male human sorcerer 1 (noble)
Aldelenna Dusk/Woodsong: female half-elf bard 1 (background pending)
Once we have those last bits of background I'll create the discussion and game forums and we can begin with the adventure intro, some role playing to get into the mood for the adventure, and dig into the quest.
Finlogan:

It is Aldelenna Dusksong. Sorry about the confusion there. I actually started with Woodsong as the surname, and then realized I was creating a temptress bard, and the idea of singing about wood, or to wood, or anything involving wood really... well you get the idea. So switched to Dusksong, and forgot to adjust it in that one place. I have since actually updated the PDF character sheet to show a color picture, not that that's terribly important. Aldelenna's background is Criminal. As for her back story, I'll have that up early this afternoon. I have a busy morning at work, but I would say her back story should be up by no later than 2:00 PM.
Thanks!

we're just waiting on a little bit of backstory for Venssa and Aldelenna to give me a starting place.
Also, it's important that those backgrounds, ideals, bonds, etc. do get placed in the character sheet - that's all there to help the DM with recognizing points to award inspiration.
We'll start with some initial posts in the game forum soon, perhaps as early as tonight.

Aldelenna's back-story is up in a spoiler on her profile page. I tried to incorporate as many of her role playing elements in the narrative as possible. If it looks like they aren't as noticeable as I think they are, let me know, and I can make them more obvious. The most difficult one was the recurring dreams of finding a lost library in the Underdark... I played that one as the urge to seek a change from the monotony, a call to adventure so to speak. I also set up her "quick bar" tagline information, but wasn't sure what all you would like included in there. If there is something there you want removed, or something you want that isn't currently there, let me know. Thank you so much, Koldoon, for including me in this, I greatly appreciate it. I hope to not let you down. :)

Great job on the story for Aldelenna.
I took some time tonight to work up PC tokens for Roll20 when we have major combats requiring maps. Some combats won't, but it's better to have those tokens ready at the outset.
I think we're just waiting on Venssa to post the traits/ideals/bonds/flaws relating to her background, and a brief backstory for the character... I'll give it over night, and then start with the initial posts. Because of how those start out, even if she adds those bits in tomorrow or even over the weekend, I'm guessing with the hermit background it won't have too much affect on the initial bit of roleplay.
I know folks are always anxious to start and I'd rather need to find ways to work that backstory in than keep the whole group on hold.

This is going to be a fun one! I am really looking forward to getting started.
@Koldoon: I tightened up the backstory a bit to give Cole a very brief stint with the Rangers as a Scout before leaving so that the Soldier background dovetails.
Cole: that's an interesting adjustment, but it works well, I think. As I mentioned, we'll be starting soon. I'd prefer to have Venssa's backstory also prior to starting, as it might affect just how I begin, but if I don't see anything, I'll work with the backstories I have and trust that we'll see more from Venssa over the next few days.

I have my traits/bonds/etc done now. I will get to my actually background asap, but basically it is thus:
Venssa was left in the wilderness as a child and somehow has survived. She has become almost one with nature, but also is pulled to help civilization. She is taking small steps to become more comfortable around others, and her willingness to do good works. She will join the others as an attempt to become a part of the town and try to see if she can trust these people with her very deadly secrets

Excellent, that gives me enough to work with to start.
Which means, for the benefit of any others following this thread, that barring loss of a player, recruitment is closed.
Discussion and Gaming threads will be up later tonight, and any further discussion should move to them once they are posted, unless, of course, further recruitment is required due to a player loss.
I'll post the links to those forums here once they've been created. This looks like an interesting mix and a fun group. I hope we'll make some good stories together.

Thanks for the compliment! Thank you also for all the work you're putting in for this already. I'm looking forward to a wonderful campaign. It seems to me like we have all the pieces in place for a very fun and memorable game. :D

Based off of my reading of everyone's backstories, I think Aldelenna would probably have already formed pretty strong friendships with both Cole and Finlogan, would probably strongly dislike Rankev for his entitled arrogance (and may have even stolen some of the Vargidan family's wealth on occasion...), and would most likely have had only a few skeptical interactions with Venssa. Does that sound about right?
For my own part then, I'm thinking as a starting platform for roleplay, Cole, Finlogan, and Aldelenna would treat each other as "insiders," Venssa as a possible friend with a bit of cynicism, and Rankev as an outright "outsider." This sets up some great story moments! :) Can't wait.
| Finlogan |
OK. Reading everyone's backstory, this is my initial perspective. Of course, I'm open to change. Finlogan's relationship with:
@Cole - While Finlogan is younger, he's probably been with Arnama longer (10 years). Fin would not feel threatened by Cole's presence but might share friendly competition in some cases but not overly. So, they've evolved into a brotherly companionship.
@Vanessa - Finlogan has probably known her for many years. He speaks Sylvan and regularly travels around her area. His friendly trade and conversations might be one of the reasons that she wanted to enter the village. Maybe she taught him some of his Nature skill.
@Aldelenna - They are about the same age, half-elven, and high Charisma 19 & 16. If there hasn't been a hook-up yet, then they both may want to but cannot, because the village is so small to avoid drama. Or, if there was a hook-up, maybe it became a casual thing, because they both don't want to settle down. He ocassionally accompanies her performances with his flute playing.
@Rankev - Finlogan would be envious, because Rankev knows his father, ignoring the less their stellar relationship. However, that jealousy might be interpreted by Rankev that Fin is jealous of Rankev's power. But, in fact Fin doesn't find anything to compete with Rankev about... except for maybe Aldelenna's attention and affection.
What do you think?
Cannot wait for Gameplay and Discussion to open.
