         I R O N  G O D S
        Book II: Lords of Rust
      Part 2: Becoming Scrapworthy

A ramshackle pair of buildings with walls and roofs made of strips of leather and fur, timbers, metal plates and other scrap lashed and bolted together sits in a gap in the surrounding mounds of refuse. Between the two buildings runs a rusty metal gate, closed to block passage into the open area beyond.

At the group’s approach, they are spotted by the armored figures patrolling the building and behind the gate. Upon closer inspection, each figure is wearing a motley suit of full plate made from scrap, with rusty, spiked edges and painted to give it a fearsome visage; the image of a hawk is most prominent. Each of them are wielding heavy, repeating crossbows made out of scrap and laden with rusty spikes, nails, and other pointy bits.

One of them, standing just behind the scrap gate, has his crossbow nearly at the ready and addresses the group. ”Hail! What business do you have in Scrapwall?”

Groog:
As the pointy metal man says funny words to you and your pets, you notice that to your left, hidden in a pile of pointy metal bits is a small gap where another pointy metal man is secretly watching you and your pets. He seems very interested in the doggy.

Groog: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Scholar: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Tarl: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
Sunset: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Gaius: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13

Groog continues to walk towards the gate, looking at the man with a confused look. He glances to the sky, then back to the idiot before replying, "No hail. Sunny sun."

He then turns and squats, looking at a random spot on the wall. He smiles big at the wall before waving happily and saying, "Hi. No worry. No hail like dumb dumb say."

Sunset blinks... then sighs and rubs her forehead at Groog's behavior.

"Talkin' ta' walls now..."

Scholar watches Groog look up, then wave at the wall. Though she can see the guards stop inside the gate and turn to face the group, they are too far to see their lips (assuming, of course, that these ones have lips), so she doesn't know if they are welcoming the group or threatening them. Regardless, letting Groog do the talking doesn't seem like the best plan, so Scholar straps her shield to her arm while she walks into a position where she can look back and forth between Groog and the guards. She leaves her Mace at her hip, her free hand raised non threateningly in a greeting as she smiles at the guards past the gate.

"Greetings! My companions and I have traveled far to come to Scrapwall. We have items for trade, and several possible business propositions to discuss with various individuals here. May we enter?" Her eyes flicker back and forth between Groog and the guards. "Groog, what did you say to the nice men?"

These ones have lips and you can see them.

Groog looks at Lady and says, "Him dumb dumb. He say it hail when it sunny," he says, pointing at the man with his thumb.

Sunset sighs, "Now there's an Elf you never want to meet..." She mutters to herself even as she looks around.

Though she has no idea why Groog is still talking to walls, though she appears to no longer be surprised that Groog talks to walls... or wild-life or that Groog actually can talk.

Sunset moves her horse up besides Scholar and peers up at those on the walls.

Do any of the guards have any visible insignia or distinguishing marks that might tie them to one of the gangs here? I'm guessing that these guys are not just loners, since they seem kind of organized, and it doesn't sound like there is a lot in the way of government here that might be keeping watch on the entrances to Scrapwall. Knowledge:Local: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13

Also, I mentioned before that Scholar would usually start her day prepping two uses of Natural Divination for the +10 to a skill check. Is it fine to assume I have done so this morning before coming here?

My emphasis, but I (player, not character) assume that these are Steel Hawks.

Oo, that is an excellent point. I kind of skipped over that in reading the description somehow; oops.
