All these campeigns are too big and too slow.
On phone, no spell check. Big fan of grammer, not on this post, though.
I work Mon-Fri, on the computer. Free time. This will be fast paced and low power.
Characters will be Lvl 1 NPC classes. Core races. No traits. 17 point buy. Must have way of life skills (profession farming, sailing, or some kind of craft). Not evil. The classes you level in depend on how you play your character.
World: Empire of Attica. I'll post map later. Government crafted around Roman fasion.

DM Drako |

leveling up is supposed to represent how your character develops as an adventurer. If you pick an adept that it would symbolize your study in the mystical arts. If you were to get really angry regularly in the middle of combat and pick up whatever weapon was laying around and start swinging it around I would think you would gain a level in Barbarian. Not by choice. You'd be forced into it.
the aspect of Roman culture that I will incorporate is citizenship, slaves, arenas, political voting structure, soldier employment process, etc.

DM Drako |

Yes, start with craft(alchemy). This is a heavy role playing campeign. So, just because you have craft (alchemy) doesn't mean you can brew anything. Similar to a druid's wild shape is only for animals the druid has actually met. I want to have fun and create a great story with your help. So, I will be trusting you.

Ok...working on Osmundus Chamberlain, an older man with a talent for brewing. He's worked in an inn for a few years, now, but he started brewing on his own when he was young, using a lot of materials gathered from nature. He's also a decent healer, and has an understanding of herbalism.
This has been something of a problem, as he was once called a witch, when he helped to cure a household suffering from a nasty bug - they'd been seasoning their food with a low level poison, and then when a flu went through, they were extremely susceptible. He had them on teas and infusions to boost the immune system, and knew an herb that purged the poison. It took over a week, but they recovered...and the story spread.
Osmundus was taken in chains. It was pure luck that a respected scholar found his notes after he'd been locked away for years, and went to the nobility to plead his case.
Osmundus was released unexpectedly, and it took him months to understand the events that freed him. Since then, he and the scholar have become good friends, even though they only rarely see each other...and the scholar is rather aged.
...more to come.

Maelius Boni |

You got it Lusius. I was just seeing how interested people would be in a very low power, high roleplaying home brew.
I am posting much in the campaign section. It will be up momentarily.
Edit: @Mael. What class is that and is that 17 point buy?
Not a 17 point buy yet and he's at the moment a level 3 expert (Have to get rid of his traits as well) just wanted to get some idea of how an entertainer type (basically a face) would work in the campaign before I refactor him.

DM Drako |

@Eoko. this is opposite of the Adventuring Lime. Just so you know. Warrior class then, or aristocrat?
@Mael. Well, he looks good, then. I like him.
Gold is based on character and also you much choose if you are a citizen. For example, Eoko's character that will be made will be a citizen, because all soldiers are, and the land and items should be realistic for such as lifestyle.

Tsiron Ragmar |

Six years old.
That’s how old the children were when they were taken.
Old enough to have awareness, young enough to not know what to do with it. Old enough to understand what was said, yet young enough to have nearly boundless energy. The children were like fresh, wet clay. The centurions would have a long time to shape them into the perfect soldiers.
The normally bustling city of Kuros was quiet and subdued on the first of every June. The Culling swept through the city on that day, picking up the most obedient, intelligent, and strong of the children, and tossing aside the remains like bent bronze. Girl or boy, it did not matter. Despite the stereotypes, they made equally good soldiers.
Even though it was over fifteen years since that day, Aelia still remembered her Culling vividly. The bright, shining centurions lining the silent children up, inspecting them, checking or crossing their names off of their parchments. Finally, they came to her. “Name.”
“Aelia Rodhire, sir.”
“Parent’s occupations.”
“My mother and father are both legionnaires, sir. Retired, sir.”
“Stand firm.” The centurion pushed Aelia, landing his open palm on her chest. She instinctively shifted into a wide stance, and the young girl barely swayed.
“Satisfactory. Next!”
They started marching ten minutes after Aelia’s test. Most of the children remained. Aelia and five others followed the centurions. They strode through the city in a uniform march, not saying a word. All of them knew that the rest of the children were safe at home, their parents crying tears of relief over their safety. But that was not their fate. The purpose of the Culling was to find children to shape, to mold, into the perfect soldiers. People looked up at them with aspiration and fear. They were to become Spartans.
The barracks were placed just outside Kuros. The area all around the encampment was churned mud, and the sound of shouting and metal clanging against metal resounded throughout it. The centurions led the children through it, and they looked at it all with wonder and awe. They finally reached the center, where a small space has been cleared for them. The centurions instructed them to sit down, and then one stepped up. “I am Prime Centurion Darius, of the 65th legion,” he began. “You are new recruits. But before we start, I will tell you an old legion legend.” Darius turned and gestured at the distant mountains. “It is said that, soon after Attica was founded, invaders from beyond the mountains decided to strike at the foundling Attica and plunder our land. Attica had only trained three hundred elite warriors at this time. It seemed that Attica would die before it had even begun to flourish. But the three hundred warriors marched beyond the mountains, and guarded the only pass through. Day after day, night after night, the enemy hurled themselves against the tiny army. Again and again, the warriors prevailed. This went on for some time. Finally, the invaders were repelled. Our army and their army were completely decimated-there were no survivors left. Three hundred versus two thousand, and yet we, in a way, prevailed. In the old tongue, spartan meant ‘unbreakable.’ That’s what we will train you to be: unbreakable.”
After that, all was a blur. The next clear memory Aelia had was her first training match against Taron, her warband’s leader. She was ten at the time. They faced each other, clad in full combat gear. Then, Taron charged. His form was excellent. Taron leaned forward as he charged, keeping his shield tucked to his side. Taron’s sword was crossed across his chest as to completely guard himself. Aelia readied her shield, waiting for the exact right moment. Right when Taron was about to release all of his momentum at her shield, the moment when he was unbalanced, Aelia pushed mightily with her shield, sending him stumbling back across the arena. The young girl quickly followed him and ruthlessly followed up with an underhand jab at his abdomen. The sunlight glinted on the bronze of the dulled sword as it thudded into Taron’s stomach, sending him sprawling. Aelia coolly sheathed her sword, stowed her shield, and offered a hand to help her leader back up-which he accepted.
The years flash by again, and Aelia’s next memory was of her first battle. Their long-time enemies from beyond the mountains had started up hostilities again, and were starting skirmishes to test their defenses. Attica was more than happy to oblige.
A seemingly endless day of marching culminated in a night of blood and bone, of sinew and steel, of muscle and mayhem. Aelia had sustained minimal injuries, nothing but a broken rib and a stomach gash. But there were many more days like that to come.
After what seemed like a never-ending cycle of destruction, the hostilities stopped. The enemy was beaten back, and Aelia was assigned to guard a small town as a reward while her legion was not needed. All was calm. At least for now…
Yeah, warrior, with a planned excursion into Ranger with favored enemy: human.

Maelius Boni |

Refactored Mael. Hope having Perform makes sense as a way of life skill. Let me know what you think.
“He’s always been that way ye know. Ever since he was born he’s been getting into mischief, and getting other kids into trouble to boot!. Everytime something went wrong in the village it was always Maelius in the thick of it. And dragging the other kids into it too. His Ma protests but I know he was always the ringleader. That boy could convince a mule to break into the mayor’s house to scrawl dirty limericks in the main room with ‘im. Lord knows I didn’t treat him any differently than his two brothers. I gave them all the same hidings whenever they got caught but they were properly chastened while Maelius always shrugged it off with a grin and a joke.
“I understand how he always got young Luscius to follow him on his schemin’ but how he managed to convince Titus to join ‘im I will never understand. He’s five years older than Maelius by Erastil’s sake! Thank Zeus for those two though. Luscius and Titus are hard workers and they’ve helped me turn this little farm into a bountiful place and the crops and the animals well taken care of. Hard and honest work and they’re dedicated to it. They certainly take after my side of the family. I don’t know WHO Maelius takes after. His Ma talks sometimes of her maternal grandda who was something of a rogue. I guess that’s as good a guess as any. I tell you he drives me up the wall.
“He just never focused on the work! He played with the chickens rather than take care of them and any patch he was set to hoe looked like it had never even been touched by the hands of man going back to the time o’ creation. Bah. Finally I sent him off with his mother to the city for the market festival a few years ago to get him out of my hair. Funny thing though, they came back in less than half a day with the entire stock sold for far more than what I was expecting. It was the best of our produce sure but them city folks are misers! His Ma said that he danced a funny jig and sang out loud to attract the customers and then convinced them to buy it up for MORE than the other stalls. Damndest thing. He always had the voice of an angel and he’s entertained us many a night with his songs. Drives his Ma to tears, in a good way, mind. I’d lie if I said I hadn’t felt my eyes wet on occasion myself. Just never knew he could use it to sell turnips!
“I don’t know if that was a good thing though. Once he got a taste of the city life he started sneaking off there every chance he got. Hitching rides with the trade caravans no doubt to and fro. He could convince a goose to give him a ride to the moon I tell you. That’s where he got the damn harp. The racket he made with that thing when he shoulda been tending the goats was infernal for months. I threatened to take it from him and break it about me knees but he always laughed and got away and hid the thing where I could never find it. But then… he got good. Plays the thing better than anyone else in the village. Still, no excuse for not helping out on the farm.
“About three years ago though our old mule finally died. Maelius is the one who named him back when he was just an imp of a child. I never named him anything but he called him “Tool” Tool the Mule. And yeah he did all the work. We were devastated. It hadn’t been a good harvest and we didn’t have nearly enough to afford a new one. Maelius disappears for a good three months. I raged at him for abandoning us at our time of greatest need while his Ma wept over him and worried about how he’d do running away. But lo and behold at the end of the third month there he is walking back from the city with a brand new mule, young and strong, and a COW to boot. He musta heard me talking about us needing a cow and there he is walking back with one. I threatened to make him tell us where he stole them from but he just laughed and said he played his harp and sang for them until they showed up and then he brought them home. I went and talked to the caravan master that he travelled back with and got the true story though. Apparently he’d fallen in with some band of well regarded minstrels in the city and he helped them out and got a bit of their earnings. He’d saved and saved and then brought them home to us. I tell you straight I was so moved that I hid in the outhouse and bawled me eyes out. It wasn’t that he’d done it for us, he always had a good heart I could tell. It was that he had made something of himself. It’s not honest work, but he’s got something that he can do to earn himself a living. Made me prouder of him than I had ever been.
“Two days ago the blasted, lovely child came to me grinning and said he’s saved up enough money for us to retire to a nice small house in the city and not have to worry about anything else. I started at him and the large bag of gold he plopped down on the table. More money in one place than I had ever seen. Saving up for the mule and the cow had convinced him he could do even more. We knew he'd been spending more and more time in the city but we just figured that he was just lazing about in the city earning just enough to get drunk and whatnot. He'd been saving every coin! Well I sat him down and told him we couldn't accept it. That it was his money and that we didn't need it. He started getting angry! Never seen 'im get angry before! Said he just wanted us to spend our old age in comfort. Well I managed to explain that we were simple folk that wouldn't feel comfortable in the city, the farm is where his Ma and I want to end our days and anyways when you stop workin', you start dyin' and that I was very proud of him and that I loved him. That calmed him down.
"Come to think of it I think that's the first time I ever told him those two things. Huh. Anyways I expect that he'll move on and live full time in the city now. He's done more than enough for us in his own way and the farm is running fine with Titus and Luscius. As long as he vists his Ma and sings for us now and then we'll be more than happy.
"Well that's everything. Was there anything else you wanted to know sir?"

DM Drako |

@Aelia. That sounds pretty good. The fact that you bested your leader, and fought in a war kinda makes you a heroic levels and experienced as a fighter, not a warrior. But, I wont nit pick. I like the character, even if it was kinda stolen. What isn't stolen? Let's just say you stole it from history.
@Maelius. That was awesome. I love that dad, guy. Well written.
I would like simple folk who live simple lives. A guard and a street performer works for me.
WHO ELSE?
Read the campaign information. If you want magic you must pick adept and a deity and commit to it. Or study at the conclave. From when you were eight.
♦Core race
♦NPC Class, not anti-paladin
♦17 point buy
♦Are you a citizen or not?
♦Not evil
♦One skill rank in a way of life, such as craft, profession, or perform.
♦Just an average person, trying to get by and find a little happiness.
♦Backstory: Live in a small town. How has being a citizen/not citizen of Attica affected your life? How did you learn your trade?

Aelia Rodhire |

Finaaaaaly, got around to polishing up alias. I was going to do a Warrior Oracle with Battle as her mystery, but that got too MAD for my taste on a seventeen point buy.
And, my opinion on fighter: fighters are extraordinary warriors. They are those who's battle exploits are many even when they are fourth level. They were simple warriors BEFORE they became fighters. They had to be tempered with many skirmishes-that requirement Aelia has already filled-and prove themselves with some great deed before they are truly worthy of their title. For example, if the town got attacked by a band of ogres, and Aelia led the charge into the leader's den and slayed him single handedly, I would ask to retrain all of my warrior levels I have gained thus far. But until she has proved herself, I won't ask for her to gain any levels in fighter. They are supposed to be a step above the warrior, after all.

DM Drako |

@eldonG. Sorry. I don't know why anyone would think you a witch. Some really back woods society in the mountains? Divine magic and healing is totally o.k. Most towns or bigger have temples of Serenrae with doctors and clarics. I like the character, though. Maybe go to jail for something else. Similar, but not just healing people with normal alchemy.
@Aelia, fair enough point on the fighter.
Like in real life. A security guard V.S. someone who trained with SF as a combat engineer in the military.
I don't want to take away your character. But warrior isn't before fighter. Because when I went into basic training I was neither, but came out with a level in fighter. Not taking a 24 hour class to get my security guards license, that would be a warrior.
This goes for everyone. This is a roleplaying campaign. Don't worry about what your next class level is.
Lets try this: You (the real you, but in an rpg) are on your phone or computer and a zombie bursts through the door, what do you do?
That's real roleplaying, not munchkining. NOT: What class am I going to build into? BUT: This is how I lived my live and now how do I survive? My future goal as an artist plays out to learning how to kill the undead. Have goals, but not class level goals.

Tsiron Ragmar |

Mmmmm....
...
...
*Begins writing up new character at Drako's post, as Aelia was for crunchy goodness*
To be honest, I really want to join this campaign to learn how to truly RP, because rather recently I got kicked out of a specifically stated rules lite RP saturated game for powergaming too much. I suppose the instinct comes from years of playing MMOs. So, yeah, I want to learn to roleplay, really. Just a fair warning, if I get accepted, this will be something of a learning experience for me.

![]() |

Ok, thanks for the response. If ALL the healing was done by clerics...the impression I had...then it makes total sense, to me. He's not one. If you throw doctors into the mix...
Keep in mind, I'm working with barebones info, here.
Do people ever get falsely accused of working arcane magic? If so, how? Help me, please.

DM Drako |

I was trying to say that divine magic (which, in this world has very little magical residue) is legal as long as it isn't negative energy. Druids, paladins, rangers, and clerics are not feared just in their pursuit in the mystic arts, however they may be watched if something is fishy.
Arcane magic has all the bells and whistles with super bright flare color, unless otherwise stated in the description. Sorcerer's and other spontaneous arcane casters are killed on the spot, for fear of the return of uncontrolled destruction.
I would be more than happy to help, sorry I don't have a very detailed description. The notes in the campaign aren't all of my notes on the campaign. Some of it is just what the common man, might know. Some divine magic might show itself, which may go under investigation. They have investigative teams to make sure that all arcane magic is contained within the Forum of Nethys. These teams contain two individuals who wear blue gloves. Just kidding.
Roll a d20 and add your real Int bonus, not your character's.
They really do have investigation teams, though, including a wizard with a marshal combat guard. They could be corrupt enough to frame someone. Or there could be just lazy judicial locals who sentence you because they had a poker game later. Any fallacies by man, could be made here. But, typically, you don't just get tried and sentenced for murder, or theft, or arcane use unless you actually did it.

DM Drako |

No, no. If some guy creates a large area of pink and purple spectral light and people fall asleep, we know it is arcane magic. If you are not a member of the Forum of Nethys and studied at the huge tower in the center of Attica City/State, then you will be tried and killed for attempting to bring arcane magic to the public. On the spot was a hyperbole to mean that it is an extreme offence.
@EldonG. I like where your story is kind of going. Wrongly charged for arcana and freed by a member of the Forum. Sounds cool. Probably would make you a citizen unless you meant something to his family. Where you want to go with your story, I am willing to work towards. Similar to how Aelia was a fighter, I was willing to let it be a warrior, because the story is what's important. But, I want the story of the character's to be rather mundane. Like a farmer. Not that you can't be something special, but not glorious enough to have an actual player class. In the other campaign where I am using this world, one of the guys is a pirate. So, an expert, with class skills in stealth, slight of hand, profession sailor, bluff, and other pirate skills. Being just a pirate isn't so fantastic that you should be a rouge like Lara Croft, but still not a commoner. That's what Expert class if for.
Edit:I have one guy, also, who thought it would be cool to be a sorcerer and to hide his magic, and rarely ever use it. But he is a commoner with pig farming(that's fine) who has a really good handle animal and rides his pig. If he keeps building and playing like a druid, I might have to make him level in druid and not sorcerer.

![]() |

He's an expert. I have the character built, more or less, and with no expectation of class. I just want to make sure his backstory fits...and I wanted him a bit old, to make him an even less likely typical adventurer. Even then, I didn't maximize his stats for anything...
He's a brewer. The 'alchemy' he knows is herbalism, mostly due to his fascination with brewing, and not a lot of money for materials.
...oh, and yes, I wanted him to have a colorful background. That's just a matter of wanting him to be an interesting character.
Now, my only issue is making him fit in the world. Just trying to figure out how to do that.
He's not a criminal, but I want him locked away for some time, both to make him more interesting, and to get him to middle age...40ish...and to give him an unlikely contact in an aging scholar who has become a good friend.
I'd like it tied in with his skills. Still, if there are doctors in the world, my first concept gets very weak. I'm open to suggestions.

DM Drako |

Interesting characters make interesting stories. I don't want them to be dull, just not hero classes, that's all. Even if they were a prince, that's fine. But, a normal prince, not the hero! Like, the 5th in line kind of thing. So, I like the imprisonment.
Maybe there was a prohibition in a small town, or something. The old wizard loved your ales and found out you were in and wanted another of your brews. Or maybe you knew his family from your youth and he came across you being imprisoned for something completely separate. Maybe something you actually did, or not. Maybe, as a non-citizen you did something only citizens could do.

![]() |

Ok, I think I have it.
He was living outside of town, and selling beer. He was unlicensed, but didn't need a license, outside of town.
One of the local bigwigs stopped in on his way to a hearing in the forum, and bought an amphora of his best. He was passing it to the other bigwigs for brownie points...but one owned a brewery, and decided that Osmundus was competition he didn't want
That led to trumped charges, which sent poor Osmundus to prison.
The scholar was at the forum, and liked the beer, but when he tried getting some, it proved impossible...
...and we know the rest of the story...or significant parts, at any rate.
Osmundus, a simple, if very intelligent man, has not-so-simple enemies. And friends.

Besh Bizzbus |

Dotting with Besh, ignore the profile for now, I'll be adjusting it shortly.
Daughter of an innkeeper (commoner); whole family of citizens, parents, older sister, younger brother.
She's very passionate about her beliefs, wants, and needs and isn't afraid to go to the ends of the earth to prove it. A personality trait betrayed by her soft voice. I guess you could say she's a doer, not a talker.

DM Drako |

I like it a lot, EldonG. Looks like a funny little thing happened on the way to the forum.
Ok, so....
Format
Name/handle | Occupation | Class | Race | citizen or no
Lucius | shepherd | ? | ? | ?
Maelius | bard(job not class) | expert | human | ?
EldonG | brewer | expert? | ? | non-citizen?
Tsiron | ? | ? | ? | ?
Besh | innkeeper's daughter | ? | ? | citizen of attica
Deiros | smithy | ? | ? | ?
Ok, so fill it in. Get a backs tory you like. You guys are the final pot. Most likely. Think about Being a citizen only means that your mother was a citizen, necessarily. Citizens get more land ownership and freedoms. Many people are citizens, and more citizens live outside of the city/state of Attica than those that live in, but that's because there are so so many more people.
@Deiros. I like it. I like it a lot.
@Besh. can't wait to see.

Aelia Rodhire |

Alright, changed her role around a bunch.
Aelia’s first memories were of the road. The horses’ hooves churned up dust, and the wagons made deep cuts in the ground. Men and women in bright, gaudy clothes were everywhere, either walking beside the wagons or within them. Chatter constantly filled the caravan-about where they would stop next, the new act, or any other thing that mattered in the slightest to the wandering gypsies.
Aelia wasn’t part of the show until she was twelve years old, in which she took up an acrobatics act. She was lithe and slim, and was good at her performance. Everything was right with the world until sometime in her fourteenth year.
The whole caravan was captured by slavers. They weren’t free citizens of Attica, and thus they had no right to protest enslavement. One by one, the caravan members dropped from the hash forced march, and so only a few remained. Whether by chance or fortune, Aelia was one of those few.
Finally, they reached a small town in the middle of Attica. All of the bidders were wealthy, however, one man outstripped them all. The kindly old man bought all of the remaining slaves: Aelia, Aelia’s brother, Tarik, and a few others.
The old man seemed to take them to a wealthy estate, but once out of the slaver’s sight, he turned and led them towards a majestic building. Once there, he explained that he was Daren, a priest in the religion of Sarenrae. Sarenrae abhorred slavery, and so a great deal of the church’s funds went to buying and freeing slaves.
Daren promptly freed them. Tarik went to work in the town as a guardsmen, and Aelia-much to everyone’s surprise-decided to become a member of the clergy of Sarenrae. The kindness, redemption, and freedom that were Sarenrae’s core principals struck a chord in Aelia’s soul, and she felt that she had to help free other slaves.
Aelia is now twenty-one, and an active member of the clergy. Through years of devotion, Aelia has finally gained divine powers, which she uses with grace and purity to help those in need of healing to supplement her already considerable healing skill.

DM Drako |

Let me explain. No, too much. Let me sum up. Citizenship is only roleplaying. Like I said with gold, figure it out. You can have what you want, but be honest with yourself and the story. Non-citizens can own land, but not large amounts, like a plantation is only for citizens.
Non-citizens have rights, like Roman times. Some Greeks were slaves, but being Greek doesn't mean you are a slave. Like immigration. No one can just all the sudden say, you are an immigrant. It's paper work and by birth. But, slaves existed. Still good, but they could protest. In the story, just make it rough, and shipped away to Shakiba.

DM Drako |

Sorry to post again.
Aelia's back story is really, really good. You can leave it as is. I just want it clear that you don't just become a slave because someone wants you to. You have rights. But, those slavers could easily bypass that, and as gypsies you wouldn't have much of any proof of anything. But, I think I need to explain something else.
In Roma, at the beginning of the 1st millennium, the Roman Empire controlled most of north Africa, the Gaza strip, and, of course, what is now know as southern Europe. But, there was only one Rome! All the roads lead to it. You could own a lot of land, and be a citizen, and never have ever been to the city/state that was Rome. Greeks didn't immediately become slaves, but they could end up being slaves. But, not just because someone said, "hey, I want him as a slave."
Attica is an empire, but it is also a city/state, separately. If you haven't seen the map, it's posted at the very top. Before the Union there were large separated areas, mostly by race. Now it is under Attican rule, and they are called provinces. Most people are o.k. with it, but especially the citizens.

I saw that, and that looks like a 20 point buy and not a 17. What's with the spear? Why does this old man just have a spear, that's suspicious. A dagger, sure. You need to cut the herbs. Now, pretesting yourself is important. Is your spear at home? Where do you live? How do you pay taxes? How do you make a living? Why do you have leather armor? Not that you can't, just there hasn't been war for a long time that would apply to the common man.
I know you brew, but where? How long have you been out? What's your SSN and mother's maiden name?
...disregard that last one.

It's a 17 point buy...he's 40ish and takes -1 to all physicals, and +1 to mentals. He doesn't always carry the spear or wear the armor, but I make the assumption that there's a militia, and he's always been...prepared...and he does sometimes find dangerous situations. Yes, as a rule, the spear stays at home, only coming out when he needs it.
I figure he lives just outside of the city, where it's less expensive to live...and nowadays, he brews at a local inn. It's maybe not the biggest or fanciest, but it's one that does have a reputation, and a few followers. He still does his home brewing - experimental batches (he loves experimenting!) incorporating things he finds out in the woods.
He pays taxes as required. He's very much the law-abiding type...NG is what I had in mind. I'm surprised it didn't do an alignment...I'm using PCGen.
I figure he's been out for a year or two, enough to get re-established, but not so long that he takes anything for granted!

oh, I forgot he was older. Well done.
The militia thing is fine. But, I want it clear, each mayor of a town or rural area and each governor has their own small armed forces, made up of citizens. Because only citizens can be soldiers and guards. But, it doesn't mean you can't have things to defend yourself.
I also was just saying that adventurers have backpacks with bedrolls and a weapon and armor.
Normal people who work for a living have clothes and tools with a bed in their home. Typically a way to defend themselves, but unless an heirloom from their father or something, it's a simple weapon, like a long spear, so that works well.
