The fountains are on the pillar in the center of the pool. There are no levers or switches or valves on the structure that you can see, but the balcony 20 feet above you in the column may have a way in, or some type of control mechanism. You can not see clearly into the opening. All you can see is a an opening in the balcony and some remains of the bridge that used to reach from the floor of the room to the balcony area, and two gargoyle statues perched on the balcony facing east and south.

Úlfheðinn Sigmundarson |

Úlf uses the butt of his palm to lightly rap the side of his head. "Rope! Úlf knew he was forgetting to buy something before coming on mission! Bah. Hopefully it will stick in head until we get back. I can go with you. Úlf has some skill in climbing rope."

GM &rew |

Need to make two DC20 Climb checks to go up the pillar without any rope. If you have a rope with grappling hook, it's two DC5 Climb checks. Throwing a grappling hook requires a ranged attack roll, treating the hook as a thrown weapon with a range increment of 10 feet. Because the balcony has ample places to catch the hook, but is effectively double range, it would be AC 7.

Leon Primrose |

nada gm, i got a spell, spiderclimb. grants me a climb speed, and the ability to walk on any vertical or horizontal surface
Leon closes his eye's mutter underbreathe, he glows with a green energy. new spell i picked up, i'll walk up there .
leon casts spider climb and then walks up to the balcony. skittering up a nearby wall like a spider

GM &rew |

Cool! About to be very beneficial... =)
Leon makes it about halfway up the wall when one of the statues on the balconies moves! This gargoyle is alive!! Luckily, the group is on high alert and is not surprised when the stony creature leaps from the balcony and flies down towards Leon...
Leon / Lorelei: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Ulf: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16

Úlfheðinn Sigmundarson |

Since the balcony was 20' up, I'm going to assume that we're only one range increment away from the gargoyle at most and include that range penalty in my attack roll. If I'm 10' or less, the -2 wouldn't be there.
Quickly reaching down to pull a throwing axe out of a loop in his belt, Úlf draws a bead on the gargoyle and heaves it hard at the stone guardian!
Throwing Axe Attack: 1d20 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (10) + 5 - 2 = 13
Throwing Axe Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Amelleanne |

Well, I don't go until after the Gargoyles, but if they're still about will study target and take a shot, or move and take a shot, if its dropped out of site.
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15 dmg: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

GM &rew |

Round 1
Ulf: Throws an axe at the flying creature but it just bounces of the stony creature.
Brynderie: Starts summoning a creature to aid in the fight.
Tyler: Hits the gargoyle in midair with an alchemist bomb, luckily not impacting anyone else!
Kyrus: Kyrus arrow bounces off the gargoyle.
Leon: Moves up the wall to the balcony! The other gargoyle is only a statue. You are on a 10'x10' balcony with a door to the north.
Gargoyle: (-7 hp) With its initial target off the wall, the gargoyle swoops down and attacks 1d5 ⇒ 4 Kyrus!
Claw 1: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25 for 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 damage
Claw 2: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Amelleane: Ami's arrow also bounces off the gargoyle.

Kyrus Leafstrider |

Kyrus hisses as the gargoyle claws at his skin, leaving some shallow claw marks. "Erastil's horns! This thing's hide is too strong! Our weapons can't hurt it! We need more explosives, or spells of some kind." He falls back a few paces to get away from the swinging claws.
Five foot step back away from it and hold action

Brynderie del'Agost |

An eagle appears on the far side of the gargoyle from Kyrus and attacks.
Claw: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 3 + 2 = 8Dam: 1d4 ⇒ 2
Claw: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 3 + 2 = 14Dam: 1d4 ⇒ 4
Bite: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 3 + 2 = 13Dam: 1d4 ⇒ 3
Considering all that she has learned from her master, Bryn recalls any stories or information about a gargoyle that she can.
Knowledge(Arcana): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (18) + 11 = 29
Bryn throws a globe of acid at the creature.
Acid Splash: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4for acid damage of : 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Tyler Crane |

Tyler attacks with a bomb again.
bomb vs Touch AC: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23 Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8 (Acid)
Using Precise Bombs so no one in the party is hit.
He than moves closer to Ulf, so that if the Gargoyle attacks Tyler Ulf will get a shot at it. :)

Amelleanne |

Ami sets down her bow and draws her sword, moving to cover Bryn.
If there's time after swapping weapons and moving (if necessary) Ami will ready an attack if the gargoyle gets within reach
Did we keep the +1 dagger we got on our first outing?

Leon Primrose |

Leon gives a response. and help how, by getting in the way? i've no magic to harm it nor anything to help in this situation Leon stops for a moment, pulls out his shield and spear and begins making as much noise as he can Hey ugly, i'm up here come and get me
how long would it take to tie a rope. i literally have nothing for this.

GM &rew |

Round 2
Ulf: Go ahead and make an attack. If your group sticks together, you will get a chance to attack!
Brynderie: The summoned eagle attacks the gargoyle, but it's attacks are not coordinated enough to actually score a hit on the agile creature. Bryn's acid glob completely misses the beast, falling 1d8 + 1d4 - 1 ⇒ (4) + (2) - 1 = 5 5 feet away and to the north west! Bryn suddenly remembers a critical lesson from something she read years ago: Gargoyles stony hide gives them incredible damage resistance against non-magical weapons...
Tyler: Tyler scores another direct hit, the alchemical bomb actually taking small chunks out of the stony creature.
Kyrus: takes a step back and realizes what Bryn is remembering...
Leon: Leon ties a rope to the balcony, lowering it for his comrades.
Gargoyle: (-15 hp) The creature continues its aerial attack, swooping down at 1d5 ⇒ 4 Kyrus again!
Claw 1: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Claw 2: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18 for 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6 damage
Amelleane: Yes, you have a +2 dagger from escorting Meldar, the magical amulet from the lizardman (which won't help you in this encounter), and Cromm's ring of fire resistance (which also won't help right now!) You guys should be keeping track of treasures and who is holding/using what magic items...

Kyrus Leafstrider |

"Get this thing off of me!" Kyrus ducks low and moves away from the gargoyle again. "Tyler! I don't suppose you have any alchemical tricks that you can share."
We sold the amulet and ring I believe. But I think that Amelleanne has the dagger. Either that or I do and forgot to list it on my sheet.

Amelleanne |

In that case Ami will draw the dagger instead of the sword, is it getting within reach making an attack when it swoops?
Amelleanne takes up position to strike the creature when it comes within range.
Ready Action to attack if it comes within reach.

GM &rew |

Yes, everyone can get a swing at the thing...it's tough enough without me limiting your attacks even more! Roll an attack, Ami... And Ulf, you land a solid hit, which feels like you're striking a boulder. You do manage to break a little chunk off of it. (DR10/magic!)
Round 2 (con't)
Ulf takes a mighty swing at the creature, the sound of his greataxe hitting the tough hide of the thing ringing throughout the room! Amelleanne swings with the magic dagger... (?)

"Nice Swing, Ulf!" Bryn hollars as she throws another glob of acid at the creature while her eagle continues to torment the gargoyle from behind.

Ulf: Ulf hits the gargoyle hard, but his axe slips along the stone skin without doing any actual damage.
Brynderie: Bryn's acid hits the creature this time, burning away a little more. Her summoned eagle, however, is having no effect...
Tyler: Tyler continues his alchemical attack as the gargoyle flies through the air, scoring another direct hit and slowly melting bits and pieces away! It's still flying, but you're definitely hurting it!

Úlfheðinn Sigmundarson |

GM, I just realized that in my post when I rolled the attack, I didn't roll a d20, I rolled a d2. If you wanna call it my slip-up, that's fine, but just in case, I'm gonna re-roll it as an actual d20.
Greataxe Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16

GM &rew |

(Round 3 conclusion) Ami swings with the magic dagger, but she can't quite get the timing right...
Round 4
Ulf: Ulf scores another big hit on the creature with his greataxe! I didn't even notice the d2!! =)
Brynderie:
Tyler: Although the bomb misses this time, Tyler manages to make it splash across the creature's wings and burn it a little more!
Kyrus: Defense

Ami pokes a the gargoyle with her foot, just to make sure.
"On our way." giving the rope a quick tug to ensure it's secure she makes her way up Climb: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22 Don't know if it's even necessary to roll, but there we go

GM &rew |

It's technically a DC5 climb check to go up a knotted rope with a wall to brace your feet against. We'll call it success after the gargoyle ;-)
A door in the north wall of the balcony section of the pillar leads to a 10' x 10' foot room. There is a door on the west wall of this room. There are four large switches set around a thick central pillar in the middle of this room. The northern switch is pulled down, but the east, south, and west switches are up. You can hear the low rumble of machinery and running water through the fountains.
