Taklishim is uncertain as he saw Ana blinded, but he did not see it happen....
Sorry... that comment was directed at Fistep, who asked if the goblin was not a wizard. Talikshim was not in the room at the time but could find it out through dialogue with the others.
So... What Next?
The way I see it you have a few options:
1. Dig further into the hive - there are definitely still bees in there
2. Investigate the door to the east (where Ana and Talkishim heard voices)
3. Return to the hallway and investigate the other doors on this floor
4. Return to the hallway and head down the stairs
5. Return to camp (I probably wouldn't since you have lots of spells left)
6. Anything else I didn't think of
What will it be?

Fistep |

#2 of course
Puts the remaining sleeping bees in the room, outside of the hide, to the sword. He listens at the door to see if he can hear voices. He gestures to Ana and Montague, since he can see them through the other door, to bring the rest of the party forward.

Montague |

Let's see what's over there behind that door that we heard the voices behind.
Montague takes some cloth and stuffs into his mouth to gag him. I'd permanently stop his wiggling and scheming if everyone else wasn't watching.
Then quietly encourages the others forward to join Fistep.
"We'll come back for that honey in a bit. Better we make sure there are no surprises behind us first".

Montague takes some cloth and stuffs into his mouth to gag him.
Do you mean Fistep? Oh wait, you are talking about the goblin. :)
when I ran this adventure before, one of the characters "accidentally" threw a dagger into the back of the head of their goblin prisoner in the midst of a battle with other creatures.
Montague examines the door.
The door is very sturdy and bound with iron fittings, and there is a closed slot in the door that would allow someone on the other side to look through to this room. There is enough exposed wood that chopping the door down is still an option.
The door does not seem to have a lock, but there is a little bit of light filtering through from the other side, and looking at the cracks you can see that the door is barred from the other side.
Among your thieves' tools is a small saw you could slip between the door jamb and the door to cut the bar. This would be time consuming but doable. It will make noise but if you are careful and patient, not too much. The real question would be how much attention those inside are paying to the door.

Fistep |

"Maybe we should go back out and go north, instead of down the stairs? Or there is the other door in the room with the three ladders. One or the other might lead to the backside of the room." He pauses, "If we take the bed from the other door, we use it to jam this door so whatever is in the next room can't come back through here."

Ferrous Grimgond |

Aye Fistep that there be some quick thinking. I'd not have whoever is in there putting swords in our backs. Ferrous says cheerfully as he moves back to the bedroom to grab an end of the bed.
I think ye also may be right about checking the other doors on this floor first.

Zynazyr |

Zynazyr stand by quietly as the others come up with a plan. "Yes, I agree that searching the rest of the floor is a good idea. No need to try to break this one down if we can go around." He waits while the fighters re-arrange the furniture.

![]() |

The furniture shifts into place easily.
Montague has an idea for trying to open the door. Do you want to give that a try now or wait and come back later?

Zynazyr |

Zynazyr waits for the other to finish and considers Montague's idea. "You can try it if you want but if they hear you and open the door, you're going to be in a bad position. I say we go around to see if there is another option. If not, then we can try your idea." He looks around at the others for a consensus.

![]() |

Will update tomorrow. What marching order are we using?

![]() |

I believe the consensus was to bring the goblin along, so going with that... you want to leave him somewhere we can retcon it.
Removing one of the slats from the bed frame, you are able to secure Smelldox to the pole and thus carry him more easily. Fistep and Ferrous put the pole over their shoulders, ready to drop the pesky goblin onto the floor (or feed him to a hungry monster) if danger shows up. The goblin is still out cold and shows no sign of waking.
Moving out into the hallway the party sees the hall is quiet. They reach the first door, which they had already passed. The party can hear no sound from the door. The bottom corner is chewed up a fair bit, allowing a roughly 1' hole in the bottom corner of the door. Looking through it is difficult to determine what the room was but the room seems to have been trashed - like the goblin interior decorators have been through. You can make out the approximate dimensions of the room, but see no movement or signs of life within.
The room dimensions have been added to the map. I have gone with the above marching order until otherwise instructed.

![]() |

The door swings open easily. The latch seems to have been destroyed.
The door to this room is unlocked and clearly at one time has been smashed open. A small statue stands in the southwest corner; though it is clear the statue represents the same winged figure whose statue is on top of the pyramid, the statue has been smashed and its arms and wings lie scattered about the room. Likewise there is a rug in front of the statue which has mystical symbols on it, but the rug and much of the room has dark splashes of what appears to be dried blood. The rug also appears to have been chewed on by rats or other small creatures. In the southeast corner there is the remains of a small writing desk which has been smashed to pieces. A small dented brass brazier is tipped over in the northeast corner.

Zynazyr |

Zynazyr waits for Fistep or Ferrous to enter and then inspects the objects trying to detect magic.
"Interesting, it appears to be some sort of ritual room or sanctuary maybe."

![]() |

Zynazr looks around the room intently. After a moment, he notices a faint magical signature coming from the center of the rug... probably something underneath.

Taklishim Nantan |

Taklishim does a second take on the surroundings their was something in the other man Montagues words.
Indeed the place was tossed, but it also had been left vacant for a very long time as well.
"How long ago was this place sacked?"

![]() |

The party enters the room to look around, except for Ferrous who stands guard in the doorway. Smelldox is dumped unceremoniously in the corner.
Montague indicates to Fistep that something magical might be under the rug. Fistep pulls the rug to one side, and underneath are revealed three giant many-legged bugs, each perhaps a foot long. In the center of the area under the rug is a small hole in the floor where one corner of a flagstone has broken off.
Alertness Saves!
Ana DC 12: 1d20 ⇒ 9
Fistep DC 16: 1d20 ⇒ 17
Talikshim DC 14: 1d20 ⇒ 3
Montague DC 13: 1d20 ⇒ 13
Zynazyr DC 11: 1d20 ⇒ 2
Ana, Talikshim, and Zynazyr are surprised. Fistep and Montague may act normally this round. Ferrous won't be aware of what is happening in the room until next round so he is effectively surprised also.
Fistep Initiative: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 6) = 11
Montague Initiative: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (3, 1) + 1 = 5
Bugs Initiative: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 3) = 4
Initiative, Round 0:
Block 1: Fistep and Montague
Block 2: Bugs
Thirst: Montague, Talikshim, and Zynazyr -1
Fistep and Montague, you're up!
Those of you who don't have an action this round can still roll for initiative for next round and indicate what they plan to do but it won't take effect until round 1. I will roll initiative for you if I don't see a roll from you.

![]() |

"How long ago was this place sacked?"
It's hard to tell exactly, but much of the objects in the room have a thick coating of dust, so clearly it did not happen recently.

![]() |

Obviously that's a miss.
Montague, you're up. If I don't get an action from you by around 11AM my time today (about 6.5 hours from this post) then I will bot your action and proceed.

![]() |

Montague, you're up. If I don't get an action from you by around 11AM my time today (about 6.5 hours from this post) then I will bot your action and proceed.
Montague (who I assume generally travels with his bow out) pulls back and shoots at the nearest bug.
Short Bow: 16 - 1d20 ⇒ 16 - (3) = 131d6 ⇒ 1
Apparently I can't hit with Montague's bow either! :)
The bugs hiss like rattlesnakes as they attack!
Bug vs. Fistep: 20 - 1d20 ⇒ 20 - (20) = 0
Bug vs. Talikshim: 20 - 1d20 ⇒ 20 - (16) = 4
Who does bug #3 attack?: 1d3 ⇒ 2
Bug vs. Ana: 20 - 1d20 ⇒ 20 - (1) = 19
Ana evades the bug's bite, but Fistep and Talikshim are both bitten... yet the damage is only superficial. However, both Fistep and Talikshim begin to feel a little woozy.
Another bug emerges from the hole in the floor.
Init. Ana: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (6, 3) + 3 = 12
Init. Fer: 2d6 + 0 ⇒ (1, 3) + 0 = 4
Init. Fis: 2d6 + 0 ⇒ (1, 3) + 0 = 4
Init. Mon: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (5, 2) + 1 = 8
Init. Tal: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (2, 5) + 2 = 9
Init. Zyn: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (6, 3) + 3 = 12
Bugs A: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 5) = 9
Bugs B: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 3) = 4
Round 1 Initiative!
Block 1: Ana, Zynazyr, Talikshim
Block 2: Two of the Bugs
Block 3: Ferrous, Monague, Fistep
Block 4: The rest of the Bugs
Ana, Zynazyr, and Talikshim are up!
Fistep and Talikshim: both of you will have to make health saves at the end of your next three rounds.

![]() |

Am I blocking Ferrous from getting in or is he blocking me from getting out of the room?
A person does not take up 25 square feet of ground space. So you are able to move through a square with someone else in it, as long as they are not an enemy.
Taklishim tries to shake it off and swat the stinging insect..
"Ware the stings, my head swims..."
Obviously a miss. Don't forget to make a health save. Your Health save is 12, which just means that it's a straight 1d20 roll with a DC of 12.
Ana tries another sleep spell, her last for the day, aiming for the center of the bugs.
Magical dust settles out of the air onto the creatures, and...
DC15: 1d20 ⇒ 2
DC15: 1d20 ⇒ 13
DC15: 1d20 ⇒ 17
DC15: 1d20 ⇒ 20
Two of the bugs settle to the floor and seem to enter a torpor-like state.
The bugs that would have acted next are both asleep (marked with 'Z's). So everyone who has not acted this round may go.

Ferrous Grimgond |

I assume that Zynazyr will be moving out of the door due to his question. Which I will then switch our two icons and he can place Zynazyr where he wanted to get to.
With a grumble Ferrous whirls around and charges at the nearest Buggy thing pushes past Zynazyr as the wizard tries to make an escape from the room of crawling things.
Ferrous brings his axe down with a mighty blow.
THAC019: 19 - 1d20 ⇒ 19 - (10) = 9
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Initiative: 2d6 + 0 ⇒ (1, 5) + 0 = 6

![]() |

I assume that Zynazyr will be moving out of the door due to his question. Which I will then switch our two icons and he can place Zynazyr where he wanted to get to.
Since Zynazyr has not yet moved, rather than allowing a swap of two icons I have moved you in front of Zynazyr's former position. He can back out of the room if he wishes, or he could get behind you to the south.
Ferrous brings his axe down with a mighty blow.
Ferrous easily squashes the bug. Obviously they are AC 9. I am assuming you are aiming for the one next to Ana.

![]() |

The other active bug is cut in half by Fistep.
The remaining party members pause for a moment, only to see yet another bug emerge from the hole in the floor.
Zynazyr and Montague are considered to have delayed, so if any of you want to take a swipe at the new bug as a delayed action, go ahead. You may also attack the sleeping bugs. Attacks on the sleeping bugs will automatically kill them, unless your attack has a STR penalty (I don't think anyone does).
Fistep and Talikshim don't forget to make a health save. If I don't get one by the next initiative roll I will just roll for you.

Montague |

Montague once again tosses his warped short bow away. For real this time. I've taken it off my Character profile. and draws his shortsword to stab at the emerging bug.
1d20 ⇒ 1... Really! WTF! Montague is going to switch gods and alignments.
1d8 ⇒ 8

![]() |

Zynazyr holds back, not sure what to do. (Delays)
Also moved Montague forward so the bug is in reach of his shortsword.
The remaining bug coils around and snaps at...
1d3 ⇒ 3 Montague!
Bug vs. Montague: 20 - 1d20 ⇒ 20 - (14) = 6
But the montague darts out of the way.
Yet another bug emerges from the hole in the floor. You suspect there may be some kind of nest under there.
Fistep still feels fairly normal, but Talikshim now finds himself becoming uncomfortably dizzy.
Talikshim: you now have a -2 penalty to hit (on top of your thirst penalty) thanks to the poison. This will last longer than the entire combat unless healed (1d6 ⇒ 5 turns).
Init. Ana: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (4, 4) + 3 = 11
Init. Ferrous: 6 = 6 Pre-rolled
Init. Fistep: 6 = 6 Pre-rolled
Init. Montague: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (6, 2) + 1 = 9
Init. Talikshim: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (4, 1) + 2 = 7
Init. Zynazyr: 13 = 13 Delayed from last round
Init. Bugs: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 4) = 6
Round 2 Initiative!
Block 1: All PCs
Block 2: Bugs
Ana, you may change your action but if I don't hear from you I will have you move and attack a sleeping bug.
Fistep and Talikshim: both of you will have to make health saves at for the next two rounds (or more if you are bitten again).

![]() |

Swings his sword at the bug, "Damn bugs!"
With a swat Fistep knocks a bug into the corner, where it falls, dead.
Fistep still feels a little dizzy but has it under control... for now.

Ferrous Grimgond |

Buggers keep coming up through the floor boards. Good thing the exterminators are here eh Fistep?
The dwarf cheerfully calls out as he steps forward and takes another swing with his axe at the backside of the centipede that just missed Montague.
THAC019: 19 - 1d20 ⇒ 19 - (4) = 15
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Initiative: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 5) = 9
Miss but at least I get to swing wildly first next time with that initiative roll.
