I think they bold Ferrous above is Fistep
I think DM took care of my action from before
Yes, you are both right. My bad on the typo.
I'll give Montague until tomorrow and then I'll bot him for the round.

BTW, Ferrous:
Fistep:

Montague |

Montague steps into the room sword in hand, but doesn't get involved in the combat at the moment.
Sorry about the slow posting. I've got a lot of business travel going on right now, but will try to keep up. Feel free to bot Montague if it's over 24 hours, so not to hold things up. I know that is the death of many PbP's waiting for slow posters. Montague tries to avoid combat at all times, unless his victim can't see him.

Zynazyr |

Zynazyr moves over so he can see the goblin and tries to cast a ray of energy but again fails to complete the spell correctly.
Cantrip: 1d6 ⇒ 5

![]() |

Uh, yes. Should have 5 temp HPs, just forgot to note them. No damage taken from beetles.
In which case you should now be at 11 out of 12 HP. The temp HP are now gone.
I've got a lot of business travel going on right now, but will try to keep up. Feel free to bot Montague if it's over 24 hours...
Okay, thanks for the heads up.
Init. Anastoria: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (2, 4) + 3 = 9

Init. Goblin: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (1, 1) + 1 = 3
Init. Goblin in Hat: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (3, 5) + 1 = 9
Round 3 Initiative
Block 1: Anastoria, Ferrous, Montague, Zynazyr
Block 2: Goblin in hat (action will not be visible unless someone enters the next room)
Block 3: Fistep, Grey Owl (will continue controlling spirit)
Block 4: The last goblin (morale check!!!)
So, Anastoria, Ferrous, Montague, and Zynazyr are up.
Some thoughts:
* If Montague has dropped his bow, he can still throw daggers (this also conserves arrows). I'll assume that you are doing that if I don't hear from you. The goblin can no longer escape from that corner.
* Zynazyr is probably worried about getting into the room but could fit into the space behind the spirit. From behind the spirit you could attack with a thrown dagger at +1 for short range but -1 for cover, so it would be a wash. The odds that your cantrip will finish someone off though are very slim, and you will hit the goblin with a dagger on a natural 13, or 40% of the time.
* Anastoria cannot see but can hear Ferrous behind her and Fistep to her left. If you want to try and pinpoint the goblin still in the room, you could make an alertness save. Note though that in addition to the -4 to hit you are also at AC 9 right now, because you can't see attacks coming.

Ferrous Grimgond |

Furious at his inept swings to this point Ferrous swings his hand axe in wicked backstroke towards the goblin in the corner.
AttackTHAC019: 20 - 1d20 ⇒ 20 - (15) = 5
damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Initiative: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 1) = 6

Finally! A decent roll!
Ferrous cuts down the last remaining goblin in the room.
If the party wishes to chase the goblin with the hat then we are still in combat. Otherwise we can drop out of combat now.
Ferrous: you still have a move if you wish. I have drawn the dimensions of the next room.
Grey Owl stops chanting and the spirit disappears. He then enters the room, joining the others.

Ferrous Grimgond |

When Ferrous axe swing strike true he lets out a triumphant "whoop" and charges through the door to the next room in pursuit of the sole remaining Goblin. I'll get that bugger who blinded ye Ana. Never you worry.
Slow down so I can kill you, you pile of rats' dung.
Moved the Ferrous Token 20'

Zynazyr |

Zynazyr enters the room when he sees things have settled down. He looks puzzled when he doesn't see Ferrous. "Did Ferrous already move into the next room?"

![]() |

Ferrous charges into the next room warily, and looks around. Though the light is shadowy (as it comes from the adjoining room), he can make out a variety of furniture in the room.
The room is sparsely furnished with rotting furniture. This includes a bed, a desk, a chest, a writing table with wooden chair, and a wooden holy symbol shaped like a lightning bolt. All of the furniture is covered with a thick layer of dust. On the floor lies the body of a dead hobgoblin. The body looks several weeks dead. Its left arm is swollen and discolored.
Ferrous sees no sign of the goblin in the hat.
nothing in particular...: 1d20 ⇒ 11

![]() |

I'm assuming Grey Owl is rather elderly as he has a Strength of 6...
"Friends..." Grey Owl speaks up. "This is clearly a young man's game. I am far too old for this sort of thing, and can barely lift these weapons and armor that seem so necessary. I can call on the spirits, but when it comes to fighting there is little I can do."
"I will return to the surface and see if I can help those who are too beleaguered by thirst. But in the meantime, there is another in the camp of my people who may be able to help. He is not of my tribe, but he walks the same path the spirits have set out for us. I will speak to him; perhaps he can take my place here."
Before he leaves, Grey Owl approaches Anastoria. "Easy, child. It is only me." He places his hands on Anastoria's wound, and he closes his eyes for a moment. His hands feel very warm.
Lay on Hands: Anastoria, you heal that 1 HP you lost.
With that, Grey Owl bows and leaves the room, heading back into the hall to the north. While he does so, Montague retrieves his bow from the hallway and returns.
--------
Guys, we are out of combat for now, until you catch the goblin or encounter other monsters.
A quick search of the goblin bodies reveals 28 silver pieces. The goblins' weapons and armor are crude and not really worth taking (though you can if you want), but the two goblins with bows had a total of 7 arrows remaining (I am assuming Montague wants these).
The goblin who was knocked down by the door has a bag with a decent amount of dried meat and some largish mushrooms (enough here for 6 meals, though this food is preserved and therefore won't provide moisture).
He also has in the pouch with his silver coins, a shiny pebble that sparkles brightly in the light, which makes you suspect they are enchanted. The dead goblin in the north-east corner has one also.

![]() |

Normally I would have you guys search the room automatically but since there are two rooms and you don't know what happened to the goblin in the hat (the dead hobgoblin is definitely not the same guy) please let me know what you are doing.

Fistep |

Moves into the room, his shield before him and sword drawn still, following the charging dwarf. He moves over, not seeing the goblin in the hat but the open door and shrugs.
He notices, mostly by smell, the long dead hobgoblin, and steps based to peer through the slight ajar door into the next room.

Ferrous Grimgond |

With the dim light streaming from the next room Ferrous relies on his infravision. Fistep carefully search this here Hobby. I will see what me dwarf eyes can see. That pointy hat goblin may have escaped us for now. Ferrous will move to the door and in the darkness see if his dwarven infravision is able to pick up the shape of the fleeing goblin.

Montague |

Montague still doesn't trust his bow, but he paid good money for it, so he'll keep it for now... and the arrows.
"Put your hand on my shoulder for now. I'll try to keep us out of trouble until your vision clears".
Montague will proceed slowly, and keep them concealed as much as possible while the blinding is in effect.
"When we get to somewhere safe to rest, it might be wise to do so for a while, just to catch our breath and all you know".

Taklishim Nantan |

Taklishim awakes from his dream and like his other dreams he begins painting what the serpent revealed to him, as he had done with Coyote before, the paint upon the hide is of the serpent and the coil in the sky and the stars as best Taklishim could recall them, once the paint dried he rolled to new revelation into a bundle to carry with him.
"First coyote spoke to me in dreams unveiling magic to me, and now serpent comes into my dreams."
@Grey Owl
"Tell me was it the same with you?"

![]() |

@Grey Owl
"Tell me was it the same with you?"
Grey Owl nods.
"Not all of us had the same dream, but all of us seemed to be guided to the east... to this place. Most of the others brushed it off, and yet we found this pyramid standing here."
"The children of the Tiger build pyramids like this. I hope this place has nothing to do with them. But from what I have heard their pyramids are not hollow like this one."
"I will leave you now with our friends here. May the Great Atruaghin walk with you."
Having guided you to the others, Grey Owl departs for the surface once again.

Ferrous scans the next room with his infravision. He sees no sign of the goblin, though what he does see seems even stranger.
In the south end of the room you see a 15' deep prison cell, separated from the rest of the room by iron bars. Against the far wall of the cell is a pile of coins and gems. Hanging from the ceiling of the cell is a giant beehive. Several large, 1' long bees are buzzing around the room . The mesh of the cage is wide enough for them to fly through. There is also a 1' square hole high in the south wall.
Opposite the door Ferrous is looking through is another door. This door is reinforced with metal and looks very solid.

Taklishim Nantan |

@Grey Owl
"Thank you great father, I shall walk this path for you."
With that he heads into the aperture of the stone pyramid hoping that the guidance continues to beckon him to more secrets..
He grabs the torch Grey Owl had left...burning for him.
Once inside he hears and smells the others before he sees them.
"I am Taklishim, a shaman and medicine man."

![]() |

Fistep carefully search this here Hobby.
Fistep looks over the dead hobgoblin. The hobgoblin's equipment is inferior to yours, but the hobgoblin has a belt pouch with 135 silver pieces and 40 gold pieces. The hobgoblin also carries a full waterskin!
There is 1 gallon of water in the waterskin. When drinking it you can divide it up into 4 quarts, 8 pints, or 16 half-pints. Remember there are also the others outside.

![]() |

Going to bot Anastoria and Montague for the moment as I think they may be busy. I don't feel comfortable RPing for them though.
Montague leads Anastoria into the next room where Ferrous and Fistep are.
Random: 1d20 ⇒ 1
They ask what is going on. Anastoria mentions that her blindness should wear off in a couple of hours, and would prefer the group find something secure until then, after which the party could proceed. Montague is curious as to what the goblins were looking for.

Fistep |

Raises the waterskin. "Just some liquid gold, my friend..." he drawls with a smile and then after some pile nudges a pouch that jingles, "And some actual gold!". Holding it in such a way he appears to gauge how much, "Mostly full, so thats near a gallon. If we ration it, I figure we have 3 days of worth for the group, or two days and send a bit upstairs, or even a day for each of us and supply the rest upstairs." He kicks the corpse, "There are obviously creatures down here, so where there are creatures there is water so I guess it right that we take what we need for the immediate and send the rest up stairs"

Ferrous Grimgond |

I am all for sending enough water to keep the folks up there alive. But shouldn't we leave a little bit for ourselves in reserve. I mean we don't know when we will next find food or water. What if we kept enough for a day and half and sent the rest upstairs? When we next find water we can send more up. Ferrous stops to gauge the groups response on the his views about water. He then continues Any of ye 'fraid of bees. The next room has bees about 1' long. I would say we leave the room alone if it weren't for the pile of treasure.
He wipes his mouth as he mentions the loot. But let's get back to the room where we fought the gobys. See if we can't spike the door leading into this room so the other Greenie can't come back this way. Fistep and I can guard the other entrance while Ana's blindness passes.

Taklishim Nantan |

Taklishim having introduced himself once settles back knowing the strength of silence when one has nothing better to offer...
He is hopeful that the blindness of the one is fleeting and the news of the plentiful water carried by one goblin is a sign of either a deep well beneath or mayhap a bushman's well in the desert nearby...

Zynazyr |

"I'm afraid I don't have anything to help block the doors. Although, if we are staying in the first room, I'd rather the bodies be moved. Hopefully, while Ana is getting her sight back, I can figure out what these shiny pebbles are," he says as he holds them out in his palm. "Also, while you were chasing the last goblin, we found some dried meat and some largish mushrooms which should give us all a meal. Oh, and some silver. I think we should keep the food and most of the water. We won't be able to find a supply of it down here for everyone if we are suffering from dehydration or hunger."

![]() |

12:30 PM, Day 1
Having reached a consensus, the party tosses the cooling bodies of the dead goblins into the next room, and then secures the door. They then perform a search of the room, though Anastoria, being blind, is unable to help.
The papyrus strewn all over the room make the search a bit more complicated, but the party persists. The party does not find evidence of any secret compartments or passages. But Talikshim stumbles on a piece of papyrus that looks a bit different from the others... he quickly realizes it is a scroll that contains the clerical spell resist cold.
@ Talikshim: You can copy this scroll into your "book" during down time if you wish, which would use up the scroll. Though you may want to keep it as using the spell while on a scroll doesn't use up one of your spell slots. As with normal spells, a spell on a scroll may be reversed. Casting a spell from a scroll uses your own caster level.
@ Everyone:If the party wishes to continue searching the room, a second check would take 10 minutes (one turn) while a third check would take 1 hour (6 turns).

![]() |

"When will your sight return?"
See above.
Anastoria mentions that her blindness should wear off in a couple of hours...

Taklishim Nantan |

Seeing that this group seems determined to do nothing he attempts to match the markings on the scroll with the hide painting he made this morning....from the dream the great serpent had shown him....
Scroll listed on character sheet

Ferrous Grimgond |

Fistep you could scout ahead if you wanted but I believe we should wait until Ana's sight is restored.
We have two hours of game time until Ana's sight is restored. Do we want to search in this room again? Go back and search other rooms like the one next door with the dead goblins? Or leave someone to watch over Ana and go ahead and discover more of the dungeon? Ferrous thinks it best to at least search this room one more time.

Taklishim Nantan |

Taklishim looks up from his work noting that he would be studying the scroll as the others searched and scouted.
He went to the blinded woman...
"I am Taklishim come and sit with me as I study this scroll."

![]() |

12:40 PM, Day 1
Ferrous begins retracing the groups steps to see if they missed anything in the first search. He goes everything much slower this time.
There is a lot of papyrus scattered about, and much of it has been wrecked by the goblins (and their blood). The party takes another 10 minutes to search the room, except for Ana (who is blind) and Taklishim, who is sitting with her.
After ten minutes of searching, Zynazyr comes up with a scroll he is certain is magical. However, he has yet to decipher it.
Ana will be blind for another 1 hour and 40 minutes. Keep searching the room? Or move on?

Ferrous Grimgond |

Ferrous happy that his decision to search the room again turned up something valuable. Thinking of valuables his mind turns to the treasure he saw two rooms over. Shaman can you summon a servant much like the previous shaman could? There are a gathering of bees a few rooms from here. If we could get them to follow your servant we maybe could grab the treasure they are guarding without having to kill the swarm.

Ferrous Grimgond |

Confound it man I tell you the bees be there above the treasure pile. It seems to me that the nest was planted there so as to guard the treasure. But ye can see it with your own damn eyes ifin you don't believe me. Ferrous says with a hurrumph crossing his arms and glaring at the man who questioned his word.

Taklishim Nantan |

"Smoke then to quiet the bees, we can perhaps gather some honey and pollen enough to sustain our strength. Material things can only be held briefly and worried for always. Knowledge you should treasure above all else."
Turns back to his scroll and painting....
"For the honey I shall assist you, but we must leave the hive unharmed. For the bees they would hive near to water as well, so we may follow them to it."

Ferrous Grimgond |

Muttering underneath his breath. I did mention the bees were a foot in length didn't I. And then much louder. Yes I like your idea of smoking the bees out. We have some torches and with all this papyrus in this room we should be able to make quite the smokey fire. Ferrous bends over to scoop up the scattered Papyrus and twist it into long twirled messes. If he notices any writings on them he will leave them alone unless he can read them in which case he will scan and then twist.

Zynazyr |

Zynazyr cringes a bit when he sees Ferrous crumpling up the papyrus. "I hope that wasn't another scroll," he thinks to himself. "Try to use the ones that we have already searched through," he mentions to the dwarf.
"Taklishim, I found this one, but I can't make anything of it. Perhaps you will have better luck," he says as he walks over to the shaman and hands him the papyrus he found.
He then goes back to searching the remaining papyrus, handing any he thinks are useless to Ferrous.

Montague |

Montague helps the others search the room. "I believe we should rest here until Ana's sight returns. Not only are we down a person with her sightless, but one of us must protect her as well. Let's rest, and nourish ourselves until her vision returns. If we must send water topside, then we can perhaps do so while we wait... though I think we should keep the water since we're the ones who found it".

![]() |

"Taklishim, I found this one, but I can't make anything of it. Perhaps you will have better luck," he says as he walks over to the shaman and hands him the papyrus he found.
"Many thanks."
looks at the new scroll, before rolling it safely into a piece of blank hide...
Talikshim looks at the scroll briefly, but is unable to decipher it at the moment.
FYI normally I would assume that during down time everyone who can will try to identify items that have not been identified. As with searching for things, you can get extra rolls to identify items by spending more time. In the evening when the party is camped I will make rolls for the casters to as a group check items that have been found. Unless any particular character wants to keep such an item to themselves this will be the case.He then goes back to searching the remaining papyrus, handing any he thinks are useless to Ferrous.
Montague helps the others search the room. "I believe we should rest here until Ana's sight returns... "
Between these two suggestions I am going to assume that the party will wait and kill time by searching the room more thoroughly. Making another search will kill an hour leaving Ana with only 20 minutes of blindness left. Another 10 minutes could be spent by Talikshim and Zynazyr poring over the unidentified scroll a bit longer.

![]() |

2:20 PM, Day 1
Skipping ahead here to keep things moving. Ana's sight is now restored.
While Ana waits out the period of her sightlessness, the rest of the party busies itself with looking through the room. During the next hour, Ferrous finds a papyrus whose words seem to shift and blur together on the page; he feels like he is going cross-eyed trying o read it. He shows this to Zynazyr who confirms that it is magical. Likewise Talikshim stumbles on another scroll that seems to be magical.
After searching the room for more than an hour you feel that there is not much point in continuing.
Though Zynazyr and Talikshim spend the next few minutes poring over the scrolls they have found they are unable to decipher anything. When Ana's sight returns, they show her the scrolls, but she is not able to identify them at a glance either (though she could spend more time later to do so).
By the time Ana's sight returns, Montague, Talikshim, and Zynazyr are all beginning to feel the effects of thirst return.
Ferrous, Fistep, and Ana all had a full meal's worth of fresh beetle meat and are still OK. But Montague and Zynazyr only ate a half-meal at the time and the benefit is wearing off.
Talikshim, When Thylla left the party she brought everyone outside a half-meal so I am assuming that you are in the same boat as Montague and Zynazyr. However, Grey Owl also gave you a full meal worth of beetle meat 'for later'.
So Montague, Talikshim, and Zynazyr need to decide if they are doing anything (i.e eating or drinking) to deal with the thirst issue.

Fistep |

"I have no idea about this smoking of bees and I'm not sure how well they will taste. I've only had smoked meats." he says with a shrug and a bit of a smile.
He looks around at the piles of paper, "Not sure there is enough material to really cause smoke, and we'd really be better off with some wet materials but we don't want to use water. Perhaps it will cause some distraction and Ferrous, I and Ana can deal with them."
