Lost City DM |
Wallia's shot goes wide, and Fistep runs back up to the doorway.
For the record, the shrews have AC 4.
Round 3 Initiative:
Block 1: Ana, Ferrous, Fistep, Wallia, Zynazyr
Block 2: The shrews
Block 3: Brathas (must flee)
Ferrous, and Zynazyr are up. I am guessing that Ferrous will just run back up to the line.
Ferrous Grimgond |
Seeing the human fighter return to the fray calms Ferrous's nerves and steels his resolve. He turns and runs back towards the ferocious shrews crying.
Ye better taste good with ale ye damned beasts.
Place the dwarf as close to the shrews as he can get.
Zynazyr |
Zynazyr's eyes get wide with fear when both Ana and Brathas run away, leaving no one between him and the creatures. He starts to back away when Fistep runs past him to face the shrews. Feeling a little safer, he throws another ustar, but his rushed throw misses.
THAC0: 18 - 1d20 + 1 ⇒ 18 - (6) + 1 = 13
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 2
Lost City DM |
Ferrous moves up while Zynazyr throws an ustar but misses.
The shrews attack again! The shrew in front of Brathas bites him twice! Both shrews attacking Fistep fail to pierce his armor.
Brathas: 5 damage.
Brathas flees from the shrews' hungry jaws. Ana is still struck with terror and continues to flee into the dark (she had another save but failed again).

Round 4 Initiative:
Block 1: Zynazyr
Block 2: The shrews
Block 3: Ana Brathas, Ferrous, Fistep, Wallia
Zynazyr is up again.
Zynazyr |
Feeling more confident with both fighters in front of him, Zynazyr takes a little more time aiming before throwing another ustar. This time he connects, but doesn't seem to do much damage.
THAC0: 18 - 1d20 - 1 ⇒ 18 - (14) - 1 = 3 +1 for range, no penalty throwing over Ferrous.
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1
Lost City DM |
Zunazyr's Ustar manages to give the shrew a flesh wound.
morale: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 2) = 6
The shrews continue to attack! Now, Fistep is the only one within reach. They gnaw and scratch at Fistep but are not able to pierce his plate armor!
Ana continues to flee and is now out of sight.
v. Fistep: 19 - 1d20 ⇒ 19 - (8) = 11

Ferrous, Fistep, Wallia, and Zynazyr are up. Brathas will get a new willpower save in round 5. Brathas: You can roll it now if you like, or I can roll it for you if you haven't posted by the time your action comes up. Ana will get a third save in round 6.
Zynazyr |
Zynazyr throws his last ustar at the creature he just hit but it is able to scurry out of the way at the last moment.
THAC0: 18 - 1d20 - 1 ⇒ 18 - (12) - 1 = 5 ugh, figures
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4
Lost City DM |
Fistep easily cuts a shrew in half. Only one berzerk shrew remains.
Wallia and Zynazyr's attacks miss.
Round 4 Initiative:
Block 1: Zynazyr
Block 2: The shrews
Block 3: Ana, Brathas, Ferrous, Fistep, Wallia
Round 5 Initiative:
Block 1: Ana, Zynazyr
Block 2: The last shrew
Block 3: Brathas, Ferrous, Fistep, Wallia
Just waiting for Ferrous. I'll give him until the afternoon before botting him.
Ferrous Grimgond |
Ferrous charges forward swinging with his axe at the future snack.
Attack: 18 - 1d20 ⇒ 18 - (2) = 16
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Blind with rage his axe blade fails to come anywhere near its target.
Lost City DM |
Ferrous moves up to the front but misses the shrew.
The shrew attacks Fistep again. But it's snapping jaws fail to find their target.

Brathas, Ferrous, Fistep, and Wallia are up.
Ferrous Grimgond |
Ferrous frustrated by his complete failure to connect and his display of cowardice earlier in the fight tries again to crush the shrew with his axe.
Attack: 18 - 1d20 ⇒ 18 - (14) = 4
Dam: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
The dwarf laughs victoriously as his blade chops the shrews off at the neck.
We will eat will tonight Fistep.

12:00 AM, Day 6
Ferrous kills the last remaining shrew, and the room goes quiet.
Ana finds Brathas in the dark and is able to guide him in the dark back to the group.
An examination of the room reveals that it was once a tomb like the others, but the coffin has several large holes gnawed in it and is now a nest for the giant shrews. There is little evidence that there was ever a corpse in here; nothing resembling human remains are visible. But examination reveals a platinum ring with an opal set in it (worth 200 gp) buried in the refuse.
The bodies of the shrews provide 20 half-meals.
Now what?
* Continue down the hallway to the North-East? (N).
* Return to an unfinished area? (D, F, G, or H).
* Camp for the Day?
* Check in with the NPCs upstairs?
* Something else?
Zynazyr |
Zynazyr retrieves his ustars as the group searches the room. He then looks around at the group. "With many of us being injured by those creatures, I think it would be wise for us to stop exploring for the day. We need to heal and we have some fresh food now. I would like to return to the wizard's tomb so that Ana and I can copy some spells," he says hoping that the group will finally return to where he wanted to be all day.
Lost City DM |
Today's XP total is at 626 each. With your 10% bonus that adds upp to 626 + 63 = 689.
Almost there, but you need a total of 734.
It's worth mentioning that if you level up you will have one more healing spell tomorrow, so if you do one more encounter as long as you only take damage that could be healed by a single CLW spell you will still be ahead.
Current HP of everyone is:
Ana 12/15
Brathas 9/14
Ferrous 11/27
Fistep 10/13
Wallia 11/11
Zynazyr 11/12
Zynazyr can still cast binding and Ana still has both her spells.
Brathas |
"Let's at least head back to camp and check in with the other survivors before going back to the wizard's tomb. They could be making plans to send out a search party for us. Or they may need some of this food."
Lost City DM |
2 out of 3, I could heal him
Wallia: I just looked through the thread. You have used your lay on hands today but still have both spell slots available. Is that what you meant?
Also remember that if you use holy water to wash the wounds while casting Cure spells you heal an extra 1d6 damage. However, this can only be done out of combat and takes 1 turn.
Wallia of Winterbourne Stoke |
Shoot, I thought I had used one CLW and 1 LOH but I guess I used only my LOH.
Walia cleanses the dwarf with some holy water as he uses his CLW on him taking out his holy book and Symbol in consort.
"Jhaman on pallop i quis to nonemmm...."
CLW 1d6 ⇒ 6 and Holy Water 1d6 ⇒ 5
Walia says, "I still have one spell left, so we can push onwards."
To H please
Lost City DM |
12:10 AM, Day 6
1d6 ⇒ 2
The group begins moving east along the corridor.
After the narrow section, the passage widens for 20 feet, and then there is a narrow section going north. At the floor of the east wall is another breach in the wall and a small dirty tunnel, and you suspect this leads to the Fire Beetle nest you saw earlier.
The northern narrow passage widens after 10 feet and runs for another 30'. At the north end the passage turns east again.
But in the west wall 20' up is a branch that has stairs going down. You have found the stairs down to the next level.
Now what?
* Continue down the northern hallway to the East? (N).
* Go down the stairs? (D).
* Return to an unfinished area?
* * The Beetle nest? (B)
* * The room with the sleeping "zombies"? (Z)
* * The trapped sarcophagus with the magic torches? (F)
* * The corridor with the haunts? (H)
* Camp for the Day?
* Check in with the NPCs upstairs?
* Something else?
Lost City DM |
12:30 AM, Day 6
1d6 ⇒ 2
After the bend, the passage runs east for 70'. Then it ends in a blank wall. The party finds no evidence of any secret entrances.
Now what?
* Go down the stairs? (D).
* Return to an unfinished area?
* * The Beetle nest? (B)
* * The room with the sleeping "zombies"? (Z)
* * The trapped sarcophagus with the magic torches? (F)
* * The corridor with the haunts? (H)
* Return to camp for the Day?
* Check in with the NPCs upstairs?
* Something else?
Lost City DM |
Looking like a tie between H and Z. Zynazyr, do you have a preference between the two? Anyone else have a vote?
Lost City DM |
Z it is then!
12:40 AM, Day 6
The group returns to the room where the dormant creatures lie, and stands on the threshold once again. The room seems to be the same as they left it.
You cannot help but recall the black blood of the creatures the last time you fought them.
Go ahead and formulate some kind of plan. There is no discernible reaction from anything in the room while you stand at the door.
Wallia of Winterbourne Stoke |
Walia says, "I can turn undead at all times. I am not sure, let me check my holy book"
Walia whips out his holy book looking up the chapter on holy water and its affect on undead.
Lost City DM |
The pebble clatters into the room. There is no response from any of the "sleeping" creatures.
Holy water affects undead much like flaming oil affects living creatures.
Lost City DM |
Fistep enters the room.
The "sleeping" creatures remain still.
Lost City DM |
The creatures do not react to Wallia's voice either. They remain perfectly still.
