Yoshi Masaso |
Yoshi repeats what the group had learned about the Xun.
"The Golden League is a powerful criminal organization with influence throughout Tian Xia. They are masters of subtle manipulation, bribery, thuggery, and assassination. Their enforcers are called Xun— merciless thugs who don’t hesitate to maim or kill a person for the league families they serve. They are easy enough to spot by the nearly full-body tattoos that they favor."
He adds "If the Xun are scared of this new person, they may be very powerful."
He looks around for firewood to stack near the fires, and lights them if he can. Then taking the bear traps Yoshi lays them in front of the big windows.
Hanzo Hashashi |
If an attack comes at us from the pier, perhaps having an archer in the lighthouse would be prudent.
Hanzo eyes the door.
I can handle any who make it inside.
Chaosorbit |
As Miaka searches the kitchen for item to make into caltrops she notices a family crest stamped into the tiles of the oven.
This is the family crest of the Tsuneo family they have prominent links to Way of the Kirin.
Miaka is able to gather enough kitchen supplies to make 2 set of caltrops.
Turak search of the Master Bedroom leads him to believe that with a little carpentry work the floor could be made even more unstable. Also the in the spare room floor boards could be pulled up to allow for murder holes into the entry hall. Other than that his search doesn't turn up any new.
Amara indicates that the ceremony will occur in the Great Hall, as the servants struggle to remove a large table from Amara Li's strange chest.
Milyth detects magic does all around, but does not reveal any magic other than what you have brought.
Yoshi arranges the bear traps and finds firewood to light the heart.
Anything I missed? Let me know; anything else you would like to do.
Narvik Drak |
Narvik has no other real skills that can help set traps or such. He will help with anything if asked, however. I do have a crossbow if you wish for me to position myself somewhere with that, though I'd rather be somewhere that I could help heal if injuries occur.
Yoshi Masaso |
Yoshi also bars the door that connects the bridge between the lighthouse and the main house.
"If they are getting through the bottom door, this will slow them down still further."
Tûrak Kavendarth |
Tûrak will try to do his best to make the floor of the Master Bedroom more unstable, using some carpentry skills (that he hasn't).
Then, he will make some holes on the floor of the spare room, which he will cover with a carpet or something like this.
@Chaosorbit is there any check I have to make?
Miaka Oinari |
If an attack comes at us from the pier, perhaps having an archer in the lighthouse would be prudent.
"Yes ... I will check out the light house tower."
Miaka will also search the top of the lighthouse ...Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
Chaosorbit |
Yoshi bars the door between the house and the lighthouse.
Turak goes to work in the master bedroom and spare room.
For the master bedroom, it's a DC 15 Craft (carpentry), Disable Device, or Knowledge (engineering)
For the murder holes in the spare room, it's a DC 12 Craft (carpentry) or Disable Device check.
Craft can be attempted untrained - Int skill
Miaka examines the lighthouse tower, the lighthouse’s lantern is likely still functional, but the lens and half of the glass panes that would have once protected and focused the flame are now broken from years of bad weather and lack of maintenance. It also appears to need oil. Other than that nothing to be found at the top.
Tûrak Kavendarth |
Disable Device - master bedroom: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 15
Disable Device - spare room: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13
Chaosorbit |
Turak's efforts are successful on the house second floor creating a hazard in the master bedroom and murder holes directly above the front entrance in the spare room.
Miaka Oinari |
Miaka will search for oil that can be used in the lamp as well as any spare parts or items which may be used to repair it so that it will illuminate the approach to the manor at night.
Tûrak Kavendarth |
If he still have time, Tûrak will try to create the deadfalls' rig, as suggested by Miaka. Which skill check is needed?
Narvik Drak |
Narvik reminds the party of his search of the warehouse recovered two rusty bear traps and a 20-gallon barrel of whale oil meant to fuel the lighthouse’s fire. Also, many of the old pieces of lumber and iron fittings are actually what remains of a disassembled catapult.
Perhaps this oil could be used in some way?
Chaosorbit |
Narvik points out the oil. Parts to fix the light itself are less forthcoming.
DC 20 Know Engineering might allow for a makeshift repair; even without it you think it will still light, it will just be hard to focus the beam.
Turak, the check would be craft (traps) DC 15 or Disable Device DC 18. Are they going inside the house? If so, mark on the map where you would like to do that, if on the grounds let me know the general area.
As you work, despite the fact that it is still early in the day a fog has begun to form near the coastline.

@Chaosorbit, may I take '10 in this check?
"Hey, Miaka. Maybe I have some skills to craft those rigs you asked before", the half-orc approaches the kitsune, "where do you want them?"
Hanzo Hashashi |
Hanzo assists with the trap making, but mainly keeps a lookout for anyone approaching. He points out the fog as soon as it appears.
We may have company soon. Does that look... unnatural to any of you?
Yoshi Masaso |
Yoshi listens as others discuss traps on the path.
"Our expected guests will also be travelling this path will they not? I am thinking that it would be best to not trap the path itself."
He nods to Hanzo
"Mist will be making it hard to see. I will ensure the lanterns in the house are being lit"
Yoshi then does just that, filling lanterns to ensure good visibility within the house itself.
The ground floor has some short passages leading toward the lighthouse. What is at the end of them? Windows? If so, Yoshi will try to board them up too. If they are plain walls, that would be best, but it is hard to tell from the map. I sure hope they are not just open spaces, that would be odd.
Chaosorbit |
@Yoshi -- yeah I'm going to plain walls, they don't look like the windows do, the map isn't completely clear about that, and doesn't completely make sense. We will go with that.
Miaka Oinari |
"Perhaps we should take some of the oil up to the light? If they attack at night, it will give us something to see by if needed. Better to have it available than not right? Maybe set up some burn areas with oil and brush out away from the house to give us additional light?"
Miaka will stand her watch in the lighthouse with her bow when it comes to that. She will attempt to prepare 6 burning arrows to light the oil dumps if we set them up on the approach.
Tûrak Kavendarth |
As Miaka didn't pointed where Tûrak could craft the rig for the deadfall, the half-orc made it at the entry.
@Chaosorbit, red cross on the map.
Once the trap is up, Tûrak will spot the fog cautiously, if it appears to be harmful, he will proceed with protective actions.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Chaosorbit |
@Miaka -- not really a lot of vegetation to set ablaze as the island is primarily made of volcanic rock.
Turak creates a trap in the front entry.
You will all have to be careful coming and going.
He then examines the fog, while most of it is on the lower parts of the island some it up higher. Turak examines it and it seems to be just regular fog.
@Milyt -- nothing yet in there.
Yoshi Masaso |
"Turk, our expected visitors will also be coming through the doors." notes Yoshi as the work starts.
"Perhaps your deadfall would be better just outside the windows on the ground floor. That would stop them being used to force an entry."
"The main entrance has strong doors and now murder holes above it. It is probably the best defended already."
I put a "b" for bear trap just inside those same windows, having bear traps in the main meeting room may be inappropriate.
Tûrak Kavendarth |
"Perhaps your deadfall would be better just outside the windows on the ground floor. That would stop them being used to force an entry."
"O'right", Tûrak crafted the trap where Yoshi suggested, instead.
@Yoshi please, mark on the map where you suggested.
Hanzo Hashashi |
Hanzo continues to keep a watch out, and starts inspecting the catapult.
Is there possibly a way to put it back together?
Chaosorbit |
Yoshi redirects Turak trap set up and also moves the bear traps. Hanzo begins to inspect the catapult. Milyt plans out her magical assaults.
It's a DC 15 Disable Device, Knowledge (engineering), or Profession (siege engineer) to attempt to reassemble
Hanzo Hashashi |
Take 10 for a total of 21 then.
Tûrak Kavendarth |
@Chaosorbit the same here: take 10 for a total of 21 then.
Chaosorbit |
Hanzo and Turak begin assembling the catapult, and it's going well, when at a certain point you realize some of the parts are missing to fully assemble it.
Craft (Carpentry), Know (Engineering), or Profession (siege engineer) to craft what you need from the household furniture.
Tûrak Kavendarth |
@Chaosorbit take '10 on Craft (Carpentry) untrained, for a 15. Is it enough?
Chaosorbit |
Yep..forgot to include DC15
Turak is able to craft the missing parts and soon the catapult is assembled.
Amara Li indicates she expects the guest soon, you may just have time for some catapult practice.
Operating the catapult requires 3 people working for 3 full round actions to load and fire it. To fire the catapult, the crew leader attempts a targeting check. This check uses the leader’s base attack bonus, and either her Knowledge (engineering) skill modifier or her Intelligence modifier (if she’s not trained in Knowledge (engineering).
Who would like to practice the catapult
Tûrak Kavendarth |
"Well, I can try... Who follow me?", Tûrak suggests to the others.
Narvik Drak |
Narvik will volunteer to help with the catapult, however he isn't smart enough to understand the nuances involved in targeting it.
Tûrak Kavendarth |
With the aid of Narvik and Yoshi, Tûrak leads the attack with the catapult.
"Stoooooone!", the half-orc cries.
Catapult Strike: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
Chaosorbit |
The catapult shot lands near the target, a good shot.
Amara Li vanishes for a few moments and returns changed into formal robes of azure and dove-gray silk. A long low table has been place in the great hall.
Amara speaks, Pathfinders our guest has arrived at the dock, it will take him a little while to make his way to the house. Please choose your place at the table. If you don't feel comfortable joining the tea ceremony, I understand, that is your choice, but you are all welcome at the table.
The guest of honor will be seated on the blue x, seat yourselves as you like around the table.
Tûrak Kavendarth |
"I sincerely thank you for the invitation, but I'll keep me in constant vigil, so that we won't have problems, my lady", Tûrak answered Amara Li's invitation, cordially.
Then, the half-orc looks for a place that he could keep his eyes on the guest and possible saboteurs.
Token placed on the map.
When the guest arrives, Tûrak will drink an extract of Heightened Awareness, and will stand alert.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 7 + 2 = 28
Miaka Oinari |
Miaka moves into the room to stand behind her proposed seat ... waiting for the guests to arrive before sitting down.
Yoshi Masaso |
Yoshi, seeing a table and drink takes his place at it.
He looks around slightly nervously, copying what others do.
"Or should I be standing guard at the door...Will somone be being in the lighthouse, and the manning the murder holes?"
I assume we have left the catapult pre-loaded?
Milythandyr |
"I would love to participate in the tea ceremony. Tea is one of my favorite drinks you know. it calms me down after a long hectic day. I prefer green tea or black tea. Which will you be serving?" Milyth says as she moves to seat and motions for Kharam to sit behind her.
Narvik Drak |
Just before they arrive Narvik will cast False Life: 1d10 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8 on himself, then stands by his selected chair.
Just to be clear, we are going to be in the center of the house where that x is and not in that room with the round table.
Chaosorbit |
Sorry for the delay
As you are all seated around the table, through the large windows you can see that the fog has gripped the event, despite the fact that it is only early afternoon. One servant readies the tea service in the kitchen, as the other waits by the front door. Soon, you hear the muffled conversation from the entry hall.
Our master bids you welcome esteemed one, please join her in the Great Hall.
Moments later, the servant escorts an ancient samurai into the Great Hall, he stands quite tall even in his later years and moves gracefully, he wears his armor lightly despite his age. As he enters, Amara Li standing, bids you too as well, if you were not already. Amara bows to the samurai.
Honarable Iko Tsuneo, I welcome you to your ancestral home, thank you for making this distinctive location possible as the site of our meeting.
She raises from her bow. The samurai speaks in a spry voice. Amara Li Hime, thank you for organizing this lovely occasion and blowing the dust from this old place, I still remember my hours spent in the garden and lighthouse here as a child with great fondness. He bows in return.
Amara speaks once again, Esteemed One, allow me to introduce my fellow Pathfinders joining us today, they represent the diversity and enthusiasm of our society.
She then introduces each of you, after each name the Samuari bows to the person introduced.
Yoshi Masaso, fierce warrior and follower of Irori
Tûrak Kavendarth, master of alchemical mixtues.
Miaka Oinari, zen master of the bow
Milythandyr, virtuoso of arcana arts and follower of Erastil
Hanzo Hashashi, martial artist and follower of Irori
And finally, Narvik Drak, purveyor of ancient mystrties and follower of Pharasma
After completing the introductions Amara once again bows to Iko Tsuneo and he bows in return.
