Kaul warily eyes the Bosun as he grabs his keen edged heavy boarding axe;

"Presumin nows the time fer givin Mara a look-see eh Bosun sah? Hur!

the half orc grunts in mock excitement as he boards the skiff and takes an oar;

"Wooo. Rowin' an reavin'... it's a pirates life fer me hur-hur-hur"

Profession (Sailor): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9 Oh dear...

Male Halfling Oracle of Gozreh 6

"Put yer back into it Kaul, we don't want tae take all day mind. Go-on stretch 'er out, long strokes"

Aid Another?: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23

Once everyone is aboard, Kaul and Jim grab the oars and start across in a heavy chop of 3+ foot waves. As you draw near, Kaul gets a little too excited, misjudges a stroke and busts an oar lock. He then fumbles the oar over the side. Fortunately, Dibbets manages to grab the oar before it floats away.

Dibbs- You don't expect an officer to risk his life, do you? ;)
So I'm thinking Kaul and Jim rowing, the Groom trying to hold his breakfast down, Dibbs and Dingus to secure the skiff.

Jim-give me a sailor skill checks.
those without prof (sailor) give me a fort save.
if/when you make the lost ship, Dibbs and Dingus give me a pair of easy ranged attacks for the grappling hooks.

Male Taldan Human Free-Hand Fighter/5 Inspired Blade Swashbuckler/1+5 | AC 22 T 16 FF 17 | HP 42/62 NL0| F +5 R +7 W +5 | Init +3| Perc +7

OK, so Jim's being paranoid again. With the party gone, the only people left are the Dallians, the bos'n, Half-Hitch, and Vinari, right? And there's been no sign of anyone else hiding on board?

One other question--how did Obreck lose the ship in the first place?

"Birds, eh? I'll pack my bow along, then."

He chuckles at Kaul's comment as he settles down on the bench next to the half-orc and takes an oar. "Careful, mate. The excitement might be too much for a sensitive soul such as yourself."

Sailor skill check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11

the Groom climbs down to the skiff with the 'Siren' slung on his back.

Fortitude -> 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13

Once in the boat he holds the crossbow ready for trouble. He spends his time scanning the skies but also peering into the water quite a bit.

Although these are far rougher seas than the Groom is used to fishing in, he manages to keep his breakfast down. Jim is a little awkward with the approach especially with Kaul’s mishap and he hits the hull of the galleon hard possibly damaging the skiff. Perhaps the crew has been ashore too long and needs a bit more drilling.

Although the galleon is quite large compared to the skiff- you’d guess about 100 feet long and maybe a 40 foot beam, it is sitting low in the water. You’ve been equipped with a pair of grappling hooks that you can toss over the side with a ranged attack AC 7.

Jim-That station bill sounds right. You haven’t heard anything about stowaways, but you haven’t had the opportunity to search the ship either. No one asked what happened to the Jungle King. Give me a sense motive if you think something’s up.

Male Halfling Oracle of Gozreh 6

Taking a wide stance in the skiff to steady himself, Dibbets whirls the grapple a few times before letting fly...

Ranged Grapple: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21

easily landing a good hold on one of the rails. Hauling the boat in with the assistance of the others, Dibbets ties off the grapple rope before climbing up the hull to the top deck. Once above decks he narrows his gaze and regards the sights.

1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5 Hook heaving

And catches Kauls oar heaving with all his might and nearly ripping the oar from the oarlocks.

definitely more boarding drills are needed.

Dibbets gets a line secured and soon everyone is on the old galleon and the skiff is secured on the awkwardly sloping deck. Shattered stumps are all that remains of the masts and wheel. The fore and aft cabins appear intact and the doors are secured, as is the hatch to the lower decks. Nothing but the creaking of old timbers is heard above the rush of the wind and crash of the waves.

Male Halfling Oracle of Gozreh 6

Hair and beard whipping in the wind Dibbets calls out "Clear above then go below?" a smile on his face as he is obviously enjoying himself.

The thug smiles as he lumbers over and brings the heavy axe to bear on the fore cabin door:

"Hur. Aye-aye Jimmer!"

Mara Crit Damage: 1d12 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

Total of 37hp of damage on the cabin door Cap'n. Loves a good axe me ;)

Mara smashes the door to smithereens revealing an office veiled under thick sheets of spider webs. A small, cramped, open space to port provides access to a narrow staircase heading down. Near the bow, within the webs, sits a single table surrounded by four chairs.

"If the ship be flooded below deck, 'ware the water. I had a vision of a shipwreck...whether it be this tub, or our own, I can't tell you. But Sahaugin were involved."

He pulls on a buckler bearing a faded crossed swords, readies his crossbow, and prepares to follow Jim and Kaul.

Impressed with the destruction he's wrought, Kaul mugs a deep-sea angler grin and moves towards the stairs.

At the Groom's warning he sharpens up - sniffing and tasting the air before pressing on... Mara at the ready;

Jim nods approvingly as the shards of the door skitter across the cabin floor, then follows Kaul in. "Very nice. I've got your back. Dingus, can we get a spot of light here?"

Kaul’s spidey-senses must be tingling because he glances over his shoulder as he enters and spots a spider near big as a man hidden in the webbing covering the corner overhead.

Init rolls:

Jim lunges at the BOSS, attempting to pin it down with his rapier like a huge zoology specimen.

Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

Dibbets is holding action until after the big ol nasty spider goes.

I'll allow that Dingus got a light off per Jim's request before the action started.

Kaul gets off a "What the fuuuuurrggghhhh" before being enveloped by BOSS...

Str Check @ -4: 1d20 ⇒ 6

His beady eyes pop slightly as his struggles result in being more enmeshed...

When he can act in Round 1 Kaul will try again

Round 1

HP: 18/18 CONDITIONS: Entangled

Sinews strainin' the panicking half orc attempts to bust the BOSS' trap...again;

Str Check @ -4: 1d20 ⇒ 18

Kaul struggles against the sticky strands as the oversized arachnid begins to creep forward on eight quarter staff-sized legs. Right behind Kaul, Jim manuevers around him and pierces the bloated bug with a sharp thrust of his rapier releasing a torrent of colorless fluid.

Dingus next and Dibbs was delaying so i'll go ahead and post for the spiders now.

Disoriented from the pain, the giant spider lunges ineffectively at Jim. From the stairs its twin appears, rushing forward to envenom the trapped half orc. bite for 1 hp, fort save DC 14 or -2 Str.

Male Halfling Oracle of Gozreh 6

Blowing on the end of his walking stick, Dibbets adds some more light to proceedings.

Figuring that it will be crowded enough in melee, so I'll hang back for now.

I spit-balled a map. it's a really BIG boat so you shouldn't have problems maneuvering. evidently a damn big chair, too.

Too crowded to get a good shot, the Groom drops the crossbow and draws his rapier as he pushes past Dibbits (free action drop, move to I-6 and draw weapon) and pokes at the spider trying to drive it away from Kaul.

Original post was eaten - rolled Fortitude Save was 1+3 =4... Feck!

"Gaaaak..."

The big half orc's struggling lessens as the spider's venom takes hold...

Dingus blasts Jim's spider with a bolt of force. Dingus- not sure where you were aiming, but unless you delayed, Kaul's spider hadn't come up the stairs yet.

Rushing to Kaul's aid, the Groom slashes at the spider making it work for its supper. The reprieve allows Kaul to finish tearing out of the sticky web binding him.

Sparing time for a quick glance over his shoulder, Jim presses the attack on the wounded beast in front of him. They're getting Kaul sorted...I'll keep this one pinned in the corner.

To hit: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13

Not sure if that'll hit, but damage just in case: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

The spider in the corner rears back protecting its tender abdomen with four of its stout legs. Jim blade nearly gets through, but is deflected by one of the waving legs.

Dibbets does his best, but lacks the reach of the monstrous spider and his swings fall short.

Dingus would have delayed then. Put me in initiative where ever I belong.

Round 2

Another vapor snake 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 MM

Dingus- just be clear which spider you are shooting- one on Kaul, one on Jim. Jim's is quite injured.

The spider on Jim appears to be waning as it makes a feeble effort to bite him and misses. Now that Kaul is free, he manages to dodge the other spider's lunge as well.

Damage (if lucky!): 1d12 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13

the Groom strikes with a well placed thrust injuring the giant spider. (critical, if not so spectacular. you need some damage modifiers!)

The man-sized spider shields its tender parts with its legs and again deflects Jim's strike. The small halfling, however, manages to slide through the forest waving legs and give the other spider a sharp smack on the head as it lunges for Kaul again.
Dingus up and it looks like another missile will finish off Jim's spider. the Groom should go ahead as well.

Dingus' viper missile hisses past Jim and blasts through the warding legs to burst the spider's head like a ripe melon. The monstrous spider falls over on its back, legs twitching as they curl over its dead body.
Dingus' staff smack has apparently disoriented the remaining spider and it's chelicera close on air instead of Kaul. Slipping behind the vicious vermin, the Groom rips a hole in its fleshy abdomen further wounding the creature.

To hit: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21

Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Jim turns and lunges and the last Big Old Scary Spider curls into a ball of legs as it expires.

Got 'em. unless Kaul makes his round 3 save he'll have one more save or a final point of Str damage.

Male Halfling Oracle of Gozreh 6

Taking a quick look around the cabin, Dibbets is wary for any more eight legged surprises "How're ye feelin Kaul?"

Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31

Dibbets’ inspection reveals that the room holds little more than a web shrouded stairway leading down and large table surrounded by chairs. After clearing the thick sheets of webbing from the table, you find an array of charts for the region including Blood Cove, the Shackles, and Freeport. There are also a couple of maps that look to be locations in the Kaava Lands.
