Sorry for my silence *flop* Basically I have had no real objections to anything outlined here.

Eben wrote:

This is basically exactly what I'd like. Small rather than huge, quick rather than slow, able to take a little punishment, not entirely defenseless but not really bristling with guns either. Zip in, grab stuff, get out!

hp: 31/31 | Strain: 0 | Injury: 0

as to my fighter, like I said, I envisioned a small, quick, but decently gunned one-man ship. that said, Im intrigued by SRs idea of having a turret for a gunner. that would be cool too.

I def think we need to have space for it to typically be docked, a la battlestar galactica. should only be deployed when needed

Health: 7/17 | Strain: 10 | Injury: 0

This is 100% flavor, but I had an idea for the ship's background. My thought was a retired military medical transport - sort of a mobile M*A*S*H unit, used for field surgery / triage, etc. It would have had docking platform/bay space for at least 2 ambulance craft for moving patients from the field to the main ship. We pulled refitted it for cargo transport, added guns and small craft.

Eh?

Health: 7/17 | Strain: 10 | Injury: 0

For fighter concepts, I found the following, which I thought looked cool:

Option 1
Option 2
Option 3

I actually have it statted up. I'll post it this evening for you guys review. I meant I'd love to hear your and everyone's thoughts on what image you guys like for it. Stormraven posted an idea, I posted one, and Lekku posted a few below.

I've been organizing links and short descriptions for characters and ships on the Campaign tab. Once you guys pick a name for your main ship as well an image and name for the smaller one, I'll update those there, too.

So it sounds like we have a few votes for the multi-functional, small, tough front-line hauler, and Captain offered an alternate medic angle.

The outflier

Size: huge (7-10 meters in length)
Size modifier: -2 size modifier

Durability: 17 (13 base, +4 size bonus)
Maneuverability: 8 (12 base; -4 size penalty)
Speed: 8 (5 base; +3 improvement at stat buy)

Base Defense Mod: 7 + pilot mod (w/ Zedd at the stick: 18)
Health: 102
Armor: 15

Ballast Ceiling: 6,500 m
Flight Ceiling: 10,500 m

Crew:
Pilot (partial cover) - Triple fire-linked gatling gun (6d10)
Topside gunner (partial cover) - swiveling gatling gun (4d10)

Human Cavalier (Huntmaster) 3
stats:
HP: (28/28) AC 20 (FF 18, Touch 12) FS +6, RS +4, WS +4 (+2 vs fear and compulsion), Initiative: +2 Perception: +8 (+10 adjacent to Elsie)

I like all of the suggestions so far, but I'll have to stay true to Ambrose and throw my lot in with the captain on this one. I think this idea is cool. I'd like to have Ambrose be a civilian pilot hired to run transport missions. He's brave and a good pilot, but I don't see him as flying a warship or anything.

As for the outflier, I like SR's suggestion he posted earlier, and of Callum's three I like option 2. I agree that Zedd's opinion is most important for this.

Does anyone have any suggestions for the name of the ship? I'll think it over for a bit.

The Zephyr, HMS the Defiant, the Tyto (scientific name for one of the owl genuses. geni. that thing.), the Tyton (similar), the Pelican (hey it can carry a lot!), the Sparrowhawk, the Kestrel...

...I like birds. >__>

I find the following interesting:

Crosshairs
Target practice
Red dot
Range finder

I just think they have a certain charm. :D

Personally, of that list, I like Kestrel - but it seems like it needs something - a color, maybe? Red Kestrel, Grey Kestrel, Fox Kestrel (well, it's a thing, anyway.)

Alright, i feel like we have enough details for me to be getting ready for the opening post. :)

If you can, please be finalizing any last-minute changes to your character sheets or make any other recommendations or votes in terms of the ship(s).

I'll give you a heads up when the game posts are going live. :D

First of all, some basic stuff.

Would everyone put a “Health ? Strain ? Injury ?” somewhere on your page that you can actively track your damage? The Health number should be your HP’s, your Strain is the amount of strain you’ve taken and same for Injury. It’d be awesome if you could track this like Zedd is tracking his (in his Race entry line on your sheet, so we can all see it at a quick glance.

If your character is benefitting from armor, please note it beneath your AC in an “Armor X” entry. Extra brownie points if you list that next to your Health/Strain/Injury in your race line.

Ambrose & the pack:
First of all, love the dog images.

Ambrose: Overall, your sheet is looking good.

Armor. I see you have an armored coat in your gear, can you put the Armor rating up in your Defensive stats somewhere?

Shotgun. Mostly fine, but given how powerful firearms are in general in this game, I’ve reduced the effect of firing both barrels at once. Instead of simply adding the damage together, it’s now going to add one more die of the firearm’s damage type into the total damage. To use your shotgun as an example, firing both barrels at once would improve the damage to 4d6, incurring a -4 to the attack roll in the process.

Also, you’ll notice that the other players each kind of have a signature item. Callum has a revolver (expensive), Zedd has a gatling gun (expensive), Gizmo has some mithral armor (expensive). Is there something that seems particularly thematic that you’d like Ambrose or his dogs to have?

Animal Companions: Overall, let’s modify their Defenses so that they gain Armor (DR) equal to half their natural armor bonus value. Then, let’s give them a class defense bonus, using their hit die as their level and using the Light Armor column. I think this should give Rowena a class defense bonus of +3 and Elsie a class defense bonus of +2.

other than that, they look good.

Callum Rhen:
Let me know how I can help you get your page up-to-date and ready for the game. I’d love to see the house rule details included (Stamina/Injury notes, class defense bonus in your Defense line, Armor listed, etc.). I’d also love to see a skill rank and mod break-down (as you’ll see on other folks’s character pages.

Like I said, let me know how I can help.

Doc Long:

Concentration. Let’s go ahead and list that as Concentration +6 (+10 Combat Casting).

Knowledge (Geography). I think this should be a +8 bonus. That or all your other skills with a single rank are too high.

Navigation. Will you list a +2 circumstance bonus to Navigation when in the Navigation role aboard our ship? (basically you guys have purchased upgraded tools and maps for navigation purposes, and you get the benefit of masterwork tools)

Languages. You should only have 5 languages, right?

Otherwise looks good. :)

Gizmo:
Your character sheet looks good. i don’t know if you got my PM or not, but I had offered to let you swap out your mithral chain shirt to instead use your “bag of goodies” as your character’s signature item. Baiscally, everyone’s getting an item that they can’t really afford to use as their signature item. Callum has his revolver. Zedd has his gatling gun. That sort of thing.

I wanted to let you revisit your “bag of fun” if you wanted to. It’s up to you, but let me know either way.

Zedd:
This is more of a subjective thing than anything else, but I don’t love the idea of absolutely tanking your charisma when I’ve given out a generous point buy. My intent in giving a 25 pt buy was to keep people from having to dump any stats to get good ones. Let me know your thoughts.

Traits: let me know if I can help your choice, otherwise, just give me a heads up when you pick ’em.

hp: 31/31 | Strain: 0 | Injury: 0

I hate to be "that guy" who references starwars, but I really like a small, sleek, speedy fighter like an A-Wing

Of course, I'd rather have a single big-ass cannon mounted underneath the belly than those 2 pansy looking guns on the sides, but its just a general idea.

@Eben:
I could drop Str to 16 and raise Cha to 8 if that's cool. I could also drop Wis to 13 to further rais Cha to 10 if you wanted us to not have any negatives. I'm just envisioning him being not very "likable". ;)

I can’t find an a-wing in any steam/diesel punk style (short of pictures of people’s legos), but here are some other options … ya know, so i can drown you in choices:

fighter plane
FIGHTER PLANE!
Dang, i wish i could get a bigger image of this one
pew! pew!
Now for a clunkier option!

As to your spoiler, back-pedal time. Go with what you want. As I think on it, it doesn't bother me either way.

Um ... Bingo?

EDIT: also, if you go with this ship, you now have to name it "Bingo"

Health: 7/17 | Strain: 10 | Injury: 0

This is where I was going with it...

Ichi! Ni! San! Yon! Goooooo!!!!!

Human Cavalier (Huntmaster) 3
stats:
HP: (28/28) AC 20 (FF 18, Touch 12) FS +6, RS +4, WS +4 (+2 vs fear and compulsion), Initiative: +2 Perception: +8 (+10 adjacent to Elsie)

Eben:
So I changed Elsie's feat to Combat Reflexes--as a guard archetype she can get Bodyguard and In Harm's Way, and she gets a feature that is basically like Diehard, so no need to go that route anymore.

I will update the DR thing and the dog's AC--I agree with your ruling on that and the shotgun, btw.

For now I assume Hester just has "dog" stats from the bestiary. I don't want to bog things down when we get a level up, so when I get a chance I'll post the changes Ambrose and all the dogs get at next level so it'll be quick.

As for my item, I'm not sure. Could I have this:

Kit, Chirurgeon's

Price 400 gp; Weight 4 lbs.

This sturdy leather case straps to the waist or thigh, or can be slung over a shoulder. It consists of a leather pouch, a healer's kit, a bottle of strong brandy, a potion of cure light wounds, a vial of smelling salts, and 2 doses each of alchemist's kindness, antiplague, antitoxin, bloodblock, and soothe syrup.

Could be useful.

Eben:
I thought Occult Cant was a parlance but not actually a 'language' that requires a language slot. Is that not right?

Health:16 | Strain:0 | Injury:0

Something like this?

We're certainly not lacking for fighter ship options.

Ambrose:
The feat changes are good. Make a lot of sense.

And you could certainly have that kit if it's what you want. It'd no doubt be handy. I would only mention that your fellow players are taking items with costs in the thousands as their item. So if you wanted to go a bit bigger, feel free. I'm happy to help brainstorm with you if you'd like.

Doc Long:
Treat it as a language for the purposes of starting with or learning it.

Human Cavalier (Huntmaster) 3
stats:
HP: (28/28) AC 20 (FF 18, Touch 12) FS +6, RS +4, WS +4 (+2 vs fear and compulsion), Initiative: +2 Perception: +8 (+10 adjacent to Elsie)

Eben:
Hmm, I cant really think of anything. If you have any suggestions on something I could get that would help my dogs and/or the crew, I'm open to them.

Everyone should look on the Campaign tab. There's a "Brief history" spoiler that has notes and loose dates on how the team got together. Please give it a passing look and let me know if you'd like me to modify/add/remove those elements. I did my best to base it off the histories you guys have written or suggested.

Ambrose:
will do. For now go with that kit. I guess the ship itself is kind of a special item for you (as the pilot). And since i've tossed in a few little perks to the ship in terms of added speed and maneuverability, i guess we could argue you have your "something special" already. :D

hp: 31/31 | Strain: 0 | Injury: 0

Nice! As for traits, I think I'm going to go with:

Dirty Fighter

and

Whole-Hearted

works for me. :)

stats:
HP: (28/28) AC 20 (FF 18, Touch 12) FS +6, RS +4, WS +4 (+2 vs fear and compulsion), Initiative: +2 Perception: +8 (+10 adjacent to Elsie)

Is that your way of saying it looks good to you? :)

But for reals, I'm putting together the opening posts, so if you haven't made final changes to your character sheet or if you're lacking anything else, please get it put up there. I'll give a shout when the gameplay thread goes live, but id like it to be in the next couple of days if possible.

Health:16 | Strain:0 | Injury:0

'Running drugs' is a bit of a misnomer. By 'drugs' Eben means 'high grade medical pharmaceuticals'. And by 'running' he means 'self-administering'... I am a Doctor, you know. :)

No, it's totally slang. "Drugs" is Lassaian street for "flowers" and "running" means "giving out to orphans, nuns, and old women who lost husbands, brothers and sons in the War".

You guys are so nice, it's unbearable.

Oh, and also ... I'll just set this right here.

:D

Very cool intro--I'm interested to see how the news stories play into the overarching plot.

Oh, yah... they totally tie back in (he says, scribbling furiously to reconnect them)

I'll have more posts in the morning. May give Gizmo a chance to post (and me a chance to sleep).

In the meantime, a back-sheath/sleeve for Ambrose's snotty sounds awesome!

As a heads-up, I'm going to be at Kubla Con from the 23rd through the 26th, and I doubt I'll have much time to tag while there. I'll try and catch up on the boards each night and make sure I'm not missing anything super important, but please feel free to GMPC Gilly if you're waiting on me during that time.

Eben, just wanted to get your thoughts on the Net Adept Feat as some of the rulings are a bit ambiguous. I didn't want to create problems, I just think snagging people with nets while I set my dogs on them is a cool (albeit brutal) way to fight. But hey, they drew steel on us, so it's their fault. ;-)

Net Adept:
Net Adept (Combat)

You have trained to use the net as a melee weapon.

Prerequisite: Exotic Weapon Proficiency (net), base attack bonus +1.

Benefit: You can treat a net as a one-handed melee reach weapon with a 10-foot reach. Further, you take no penalty on melee attack rolls for using an unfolded net, and you can use one full-round action or two move actions to fold a net.

Normal: A net is a ranged weapon that imposes a –4 penalty on ranged attack rolls if it is unfolded. Folding a net takes a proficient user 2 rounds.

So, I'm assuming that means that when I use it as a melee weapon it entangles, just like when you use it at range.

Furthermore, I assume since it's a melee weapon, you can use it to make trip and disarm attempts.

My question is--if I make a melee trip attack with the net, is the target also entangled since he got hit with the net? This I'm not sure about (and I vaguely remember about the other net feats allowing you to trip or drag an entangled opponent), and I'm assuming it's one or the other.

Also, if I hit someone with my net and entangle them, can I still use the net to make other attacks (since it has melee reach)? Not sure how that would work.

That should be fixed. I can't set you as the controller until you log in. (or at least i don't know how)

I'll move up and to the left to hopefully gain some cover from that table at some point.
