Yeah, pretties! *.*
Do we have a loot list anywhere? Or is someone tracking it?
I proposed that some time ago: I'd do that myself, but I'm already tracking the loot in another one of my campaigns and usually updating the NPC list in another one. Anyone want to step up and do the list instead?

JonGarrett |

Azri, I finally got around to reading the Kineticist. Sorry for the delay. If I'm honest, I kept getting distracted by shiny bits of foil. Go VMC it up.
Everyone else - where's my posts, folks? You're making me feel unloved. And the an unloved GM drops karmic dragons on you. All it's crits are on the people with the least posts!

Selena Halfblood |

Sorry, been have a little busy the last few days. I'll post right up!
EDIT: First World Half-Succubus problems.

Yao Mihara |

Turns out I'm short one language. Any suggestions?
In other news, I'm starting my first real full-time job as a software engineer tomorrow.
I do not foresee it affecting my posting in any meaningful way, but I thought I'd let you guys know because reasons.

Selena Halfblood |

In the end, can someone else do the loot list? If no one else can, I'll try to work out something, but I'm a little busy these days.

Nigrum Ensis Halfblood |

Here is what I have found, I do not claim this to be all the loot we have stumbled across. I just got off work and am in Zombie mode. I accept gifts of brains and cookies for my efforts.
P.S. Fat free brains only, this zombie watches his weight. I deny that stereo type about being slow and shuffling. Damn humans.
Loot List
Soulbiter (+1 Adamantium Vicious Bastard Sword)
Unique +1 Tetsubo
+1 Elysian Bronze Totem Spear
+1 agile Cinqueda (2)
Simple Steel Lockbox
1000gp in gems
Trade Goods worth 4 Trade Points
Materials Worth 3 Build Points
A ring of feather fall
A pirate's eye patch
mistmail
a Handy Haversack
2095sp
4573gp
300pp
3 Ships (Nigrum claims one for war purposes and calls it the Sword Dragon) xD

Selena Halfblood |

Thanks Nigrum!

Selena Halfblood |

So, me and Nigrum charge in, averts our eyes and hope we don't get stoned, I grapple, Foxy stabs, and we go our merry way. Sounds like a plan?
PS: Nigrum SA won't work, as the basilisk will get concealment, but the URogue SA works against partial concealment. Yays for stabs! *.*

Nigrum Ensis Halfblood |

I would point out that their gaze only effects flesh, which depending on Azri's state of decomposition may render her immune. Another option to consider is does anyone have something that could blind it?
Pretty sure it does not have to lock eyes to turn us into stone as that is not stated anywhere. Just that it has to look at us, not the other way around. More to the point it would not effect our gear if that was the case which it does, so going to say not a option to avert our own eyes.
Also it has a range limit with that gaze ability, otherwise someone would have been subjected to it already by it being aware of us from a distance. So we could just use range weapons and keep away. Nigrum does have a bow even if he has yet to use it.

Azri, the Lich of Khalharum |

Let me put it this way: She's far enough along to need a Mortal Visage to pass for being alive. XD And she does have the Undead resilience against Fortitude-based effects - she may not be especially strong, but she is tough, and going to get more so over time.

Selena Halfblood |

@Nigrum: A lot of that is addressed in the Gaze Monster Special Ability entry
A gaze special attack takes effect when foes look at the attacking creature’s eyes. The attack can have any sort of effect; petrification, death, and charm are common. The typical range is 30 feet, but check the creature's entry for details. The type of saving throw for a gaze attack varies, but it is usually a Will or Fortitude save (DC 10 + 1/2 gazing creature’s racial HD + gazing creature’s Cha modifier; the exact DC is given in the creature’s text). A successful saving throw negates the effect. A monster’s gaze attack is described in abbreviated form in its description. Each opponent within range of a gaze attack must attempt a saving throw each round at the beginning of his or her turn in the initiative order. Only looking directly at a creature with a gaze attack leaves an opponent vulnerable. Opponents can avoid the need to make the saving throw by not looking at the creature, in one of two ways.
Averting Eyes: The opponent avoids looking at the creature’s face, instead looking at its body, watching its shadow, tracking it in a reflective surface, etc. Each round, the opponent has a 50% chance to avoid having to make a saving throw against the gaze attack. The creature with the gaze attack, however, gains concealment against that opponent.
Wearing a Blindfold: The foe cannot see the creature at all (also possible to achieve by turning one's back on the creature or shutting one's eyes). The creature with the gaze attack gains total concealment against the opponent.
A creature with a gaze attack can actively gaze as an attack action by choosing a target within range. That opponent must attempt a saving throw but can try to avoid this as described above. Thus, it is possible for an opponent to save against a creature’s gaze twice during the same round, once before the opponent’s action and once during the creature’s turn.
Gaze attacks can affect ethereal opponents. A creature is immune to gaze attacks of others of its kind unless otherwise noted. Allies of a creature with a gaze attack might be affected. All the creature's allies are considered to be averting their eyes from the creature with the gaze attack, and have a 50% chance to not need to make a saving throw against the gaze attack each round. The creature can also veil its eyes, thus negating its gaze ability.
So yeah, it works by locking eyes. I suppose that the ability also works like flash to stone, so our weapons, armors, and skimpy attires will get petrified.
Gaze attacks have different ranges, yup: I've usually seen them affect a radius of 30 feet, but I'm sure there are things that have a bigger area of effect.
JonGarrett |

That is probably the safest way to deal with the random encounter, yes.
Of course, having eight eyes will make things more interesting for you folks...
I will point out that it can be dodged by going via a different bridge and possibly running into something else on my random encounter table, but Aibek is right - it'll probably end up being a menace at some point if left to fend for itself. How long will that take? Who knows. Other than me, I mean. I know.
On the plus side all you have to do is gut it and coat all the people I turn to stone with it's blood and you're all good. In need of a bath, but all good.

Azri, the Lich of Khalharum |

I don't think Blindness is limited by the number of eyes...? XD Well, that's probably what I'll try first unless we come up with another plan.

JonGarrett |

So, I can't help but notice we're slowing down a little.
Are things happening in your guys day to day, non-RPing lives? Or am I boring the hell out of you? Do we want to change track a little after you folk fix the water supply? I admit, I wasn't expecting this much combat - but I wasn't expecting a fair few things you've done, either.
If you have any issues, give me a shout, and we'll see if we can resolve things.
For my part, work has been...plentiful. This is day 7 of 9. So I'm a bit more worn out than usual. Hence why I'm slower and less grandiose in my non-verbal ramblings.

Azri, the Lich of Khalharum |

I think we were just trying to figure out a good way of dealing with the creature. XD
Of course, DOING things is a virtue in PbP games. o wo~ In the future, I might just have Azri forge boldly ahead.

Yao Mihara |

I've no issue with how things are going, and I'm still enjoying myself very much. I've been settling into a new job, so that's a thing here, but I'm doing fine.
Combat does tend to be slower because the game falls to the pace of the slowest poster, as opposed to zipping them by a little.

Selena Halfblood |

Yup, I've noticed we've slowed down a little.
On my part, I've been a little busy the last few weeks, but now I should be back to a more reasonable routine.
Though, I've noticed something that I usually see halts the pace of a PbP a little: on some out of combat situation, we've taken several days of time to go trough it, when they could have been resolved in much less time.
Let's take for example our conversation with Elie after we got the skeleton. The conversation lasted for 5 days, halting the pace a little.
Usually, I've found that it works to assume some things to get the game going: before we talked with Elie, we'd already agreed to tell her what happened and ask her where the graveyard was, so the two post from the 21th and first from the 22th could have been condensed in a single first post.
Another thing to consider in PbP to keep the pace going is to ask OOC what we want to do next: keeping with the following example, after Elie's post you can put a "Do you want to go to the cemetery close to the city, or the Pharasman one? Or something else entirely?".
Making the post that way, you get out all of the important information ASAP, and give two clear options for the players to decide: during the day before your next post, we can decide where to go/what to do, and ask additional questions that you can answer before we move on what we decided.
Of course, these are just guidelines: it makes more sense some times to have a conversation last more than 2 IRL days, or not to follow this pattern. Things like important talks/social encounters (i.e. we have to convince the ambassador of Whateverland to ally with us), or conversations where it doesn't make sense to assume anything at first contact (i.e. we're strolling trough a dungeon and suddenly a toothpaste elemental pops out and asks what we're doing there).
Hope my rambling made some sense. <.<
I'll be less flaky and try to push more in my posts to get things going.

Nigrum Ensis Halfblood |

Work has been all over the place for me lately. Yesterday I had to get up at 1 a.m. after having a mid to late night shift the day before. So apologies if I slow down a bit sometimes. I think they are trying to kill me or are short handed. Nah more likely their planning my demise.
All that said, not bored. I find things very interesting but Nigrum is specialized. So don't let his silence slow things down, he may not say anything about the differences between a regular imp and imp consular. But he will be listening should the topic of how best to kill them come up. xP

Selena Halfblood |

The skin could be cured into an unusual suit of armour, similar to Dragonhide, although it's smaller size and thinner skin would limit it to lighter armours.
Basilisk Bikini?

Azri, the Lich of Khalharum |

Obviously, it turns all the men looking at Selena to st- er, I mean, it probably gives her a nice bonus to Diplomacy or something. And that's good when we're not doing aggressive negotiations.

Selena Halfblood |

Obviously, it turns all the men looking at Selena to st-
I didn't even think about that.
Now I need that bikini.
Selena Halfblood |

...mine is the only game where the players kill a terrified Basilisk as it tries to flee, they then decide to wear it as a bikini.
I feel pride and horror in roughly equal measure.
He is but the first of many.
We will slay all that menaces Khalarum, and the proof of their defeats shall be remembered forevermore trough extravagant lingerie and innocence-scarring dresses.
Azri, the Lich of Khalharum |

"Waste Not, Want Not". Rather than simply leaving carcasses around to pollute the city, attracting rats and disease, we're fully using all parts of their body as a way of improving the city. It's the responsible thing to do!

Selena Halfblood |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

We're a bunch of treehuggers: maybe Aibek a little more than hugger. *Nudge Nudge Wink Wink*
Selena will see that this ship reaches its destination.

A. Aibek |

We're a bunch of treehuggers: maybe Aibek a little more than hugger. *Nudge Nudge Wink Wink*
Selena will see that this ship reaches its destination.
I keep gigging and stuff, oh dear...though my first reaction at reading Selena's in-game reaction was giggling and thinking Selena will likely have so much fun with this - and who will be able to stop her...likely no one ;D
While I had discussed ideas with our overlord, I had not intended a ship, just more awkward babbling Aibek, but if Selena wants to sail ships, who is Aibek to argue? *chuckles* Though Overlord tells me more NPC people will obviously come, and there is obviously PC/PC ships, so more shipping shenanigans possible and of course awkward Aibek.

Azri, the Lich of Khalharum |

Azri will just ship the rest of you, I think. XD She's, uh, not interested in the kinds of people who would be interested in her.

Selena Halfblood |

I live to entertain. *Bows* Selena will definitely enjoy playing matchmaker: with Aibek it will be entertaining, but in case that happens with Ginger things will get hilarious. :D ("Ok, I think I have to start from the basics with you, Ginger. Let me get the sock puppets...")
And just tell Selena Magic Jar is a thing, Az, and we'll find a way for Azri to have some fun once in a while: I doubt she'll have problems letting her zombie-sis borrow her body for a couple of hours.

Nigrum Ensis Halfblood |

Sock puppets meet Tsui, well look at that the sock puppets died.
Best leave the swordsman alone Selena. He is still a healthy man even if he does not seem to be. Just has a type, good luck figuring it out. xD

Azri, the Lich of Khalharum |

Azri literally has no libido, much less a reproductive system. Biologically speaking, nothing drives her to romance. XD Emotionally... also nothing, really. She cares about her family, but romance of her own hasn't even crossed her mind.
