Azri, the Lich of Khalharum
The low save (currently Will DC 14, I think) probably helps - hardly game-breaking, that. XD It's probably worth looking at in the future, anyway. In the meantime, I might grab other Way of the Wicked feats for Azri at some point - I like the one that improves her touch attack (which will probably be her main way of dealing damage), and that should provide a nice alternative when she doesn't want to be casting.
JonGarrett
Yeah, Way of the Wicked was nice like that.
And when a level four character does 66 points of damage in a single turn, 'clean' isn't likely to happen. Chunky salsa is. But I'll try and remember to have more clean wounds to the spine and organs and less examining one's own breakfast for you.
Yao Mihara
"'clean' isn't likely to happen"
I'd like to argue that short swords piercing straight through vital organs could considerably represent a 'splatter-less' 66 points of damage. :P
It's just more fitting with the weapon type.
Also, ah, ridiculous damage turns. Definitely the rogue's signature.
Nigrum Ensis Halfblood
Considering Nigrum's weapon, he can stab someone like Mihara or cut them clean in half. So while not gore filled in style it is not completely clean sometimes. What with blood spray and such. That beheading probably looked like red fountain. Bah I think I just grossed myself out a little just now. >.<
Selena Halfblood
That's why hugging people to death is better! You don't need to clean your clothes afterwards!
Selena Halfblood
Now that I think about it, are the Sleeves an Illusion or Conjuration effect? I mean, does clothes actually appear out of nowhere, or you're going around naked with an illusory dress on?
Yao Mihara
According to the description, the sleeves have an aura of illusion, but the description is quite clear:
These translucent cloth tubes easily fit over their wearer’s arms.
The wearer of these sleeves can, when she slips them on, choose to transform her current garments into any other non-magical set of clothing. These new clothes fit her perfectly and are always clean and mended unless she specifically designates otherwise. When she removes the sleeves, her clothes revert to their original form.
In short, Mihara is wearing a relatively plain and simple dress transformed into whatever extravagant clothes strike her fancy.
Selena Halfblood
You don't have to worry about Peeping Toms with True Seeing then!
They're friggin everywhere, I swear! ;)
Azri, the Lich of Khalharum
Oh, I don't know... encountering them could be rather fun.
(Said the undead girl whose true appearance is somewhat less nice than her mortal visage.)
Selena Halfblood

(Said the undead girl whose true appearance is somewhat less nice than her mortal visage.)
Urghatoans Peeping Toms with True Seeing?
...
Yuck.
Nigrum Ensis Halfblood
I am going to have to disagree with Mihara. Sleeves of many garments are based off an illusion spell and give off an illusion aura. So it's an illusion not real, that simple dress is still there and still gets dirty and feels the same. You just don't see it and no one else does, baring illusion defeating abilities. Descriptions about magical items are not set in stone nearly to the level of spells. If the transformation was literal then the aura would be transmutation sense it's a physical change that falls into that school and the spell would be something akin to alter self or polymorph.
I am staying out of the peeping toms talk on mere principle.
JonGarrett
But I like to watch...I mean, no, no peeping Toms!
Whew, smooth recovery there Jon. No one ever noticed a thing...
Interestingly, the sleeves got a FAQ. Looks like Nigrum's interpretation is correct. Honestly, however, it's such a minor toy, if Mihara wants to make a conjuration based version instead I'd have no objection.
Yao Mihara
Hm. Let's go with illusion. It doesn't have much impact either way, since True Seeing would also see through transformed clothing.
I'm fine with Mihara's appearance being mostly illusions, it's not as though she doesn't also put a false human face on every day. :P
A. Aibek
Yes, considering moving Aibek up to Shadow Lord template, though not sure when other than at some point after 5th level (as Shadow lords are shadow creatures with at least 5 hit dice).
It's the best way for Aibek to get shadow walk (which surprising to me Shadow Assassins do not get) among other things as it otherwise requires too many levels of other things or expensive one off elixers or a very expensive risky object. Not sure on how Aibek will feel about the whole ray of sickening though, but small sacrifice to for more shadow power goodness.
We would then have a LN Lich and a CN Shadow Lord and just confuse everyone :D
Selena Halfblood
@Aibek: *Cue appropriate music* *
The Shadow Lord template looks cool! Also, each other of us took a much crazier template than Shadow Creature, so it should balance up. Now that I think about it, 5th level is also where my and Nigrum's template jumps to a +2 to CR, so that would be appropriate.
And you got Ray of Sickening, but my SLAs are much more evil. :/
*Go play NieR, boys and girls.
Selena Halfblood
I remember Jon saying in the recruitment thread that he would come up with either some malus for us, or something extra for those that didn't have a scalable template.
Nigrum Ensis Halfblood
I am a little envious of Selena and Mihara's templates. Mine is generic rather then specialized or custom. Evil loving Pathfinder can't make specialized templates for the holy ones huh. Aw well DR and SR scale with Nigrum and strictly speaking he does get SLA's as he grows but IC he won't have a clue unless placed in a situation where it may come out. He still doesn't know he can fly sense he failed to notice the pit that appeared under him during the fight and his lack of fall. Funny how only the enemies noticed and didn't say a thing. xD
But yeah I think we all excel in one area or another while covering up for each others weaknesses. So Azri if someone turns your body to dust and leaves your head, we will pick you up and once safe find some more humanoid bones to put you back together or if you prefer destroy your head so you can reform. ;)
Azri, the Lich of Khalharum
Well, there are a few good templates for holy characters - the Advanced Bestiary has a complete set of holy possession templates (excellent stuff), and the sheer variety there covers plenty of bases.
As for Azri's death, feel free to crush her instead of looking for body parts. Reforming is probably faster and easier - especially since I plan on picking up a feat to let her do it in one day. XD Play-by-Post games are slow as it is, and I'd rather not be absent for months (or compel everyone else to stop advancing through the plot and wait for me) just so I can revive normally.
Yao Mihara
I agree that we've got a really balanced party on our hands. I was initially planning around making Mihara more independant in combat and able to sneak without a flanker, but seeing how the game is developing and how both Selena and Nigrum make for great flanking partners, I may very well go the other way, and build even more for team combat.
Nigrum, Selena, I have a suggestion:
There's a teamwork feat called "Outflank" that brings the flanking bonus up to +4 if both flankers have it. I was thinking it might be a good feat for the three of us to pick, if you two are up to it. Level 7 would be an ideal spot for it, for Mihara. There's also a feat that instead grants +1d6 sneak attack damage while flanking, but I'm not sure we need that much more DPS.
Selena Halfblood
@Nigrum: Well, templates are intended to be slapped on monster, so it makes sense that most of them are for the evil guys: half-fiend(the one I'm using) probably has the most variations because they all came out in the Demon Revisited book.
And I'm enjoying the teamwork a lot, too: I thought that I was going to charge ahead and take out the caster, but the "pin them for a round or two and let Mihara/Nigrum mince them" tactic proved to be better than anticipated. :P
EDIT: Hm, Outflank could be a good idea, as it applies to Combat Maneuvers, too. Problem is I don't have a lot of free space for feats: I was planning to take the second part of Grappling Style at level 5 (even that may change, as it looks like that the Melee Tactics Toolbox coming out this month as a lot of cool things for grapplers), but I'm positive that I want to use level 7-9-11 feats for the Final Embrace chain.
Nigrum Ensis Halfblood
My feat progression is pretty mapped out, it's in my notes section on my profile. So yeah opening up a space for that will have a chain reaction which I don't want to look into at the moment. Now if their is an item or something that grants it, like an ioun stone, then I am all for it. Nigrum is pretty much set up for landing hard hits (single or multiple) with feat granted effects and demoralization, as he levels he will be able to do both in a single round. I don't want to lose that but will look into it when I have time to see if some room can be made regardless.
Yao Mihara
Fair enough. I realised my seventh level feat wouldn't help Mihara, so I thought I'd suggest that, but I'll just find something else. (If anything, something more exciting than a straight combat bonus.)
JonGarrett
I'm starting to think that at some point I'll allow everyone to upgrade to a CR2 template. At least, those that don't naturally have one. If Nigrum and Mihara naturally upgrade to CR+2, Azri and Selena unlock the rest of there templates that I sealed for mind-saving reasons and Aibek goes up to a Shadowlord, only Ayreth would need to pick something shinier or extra up.
Of course, dealing with some of those abilities is going to be a pain in my ass...but I'm sure I can cope. I need to start working out more ways around Spell Resistance, probably. It's been the biggest issue I've had running this campaign, since spellcasters usually make such fine badguys.
Would anyone have an issue with that? I'm not sure if it'll be level 5 for everyone, as not all templates are made equal, but it would save folks from having to suffer through a limiter.
And Nigrum - If you wanna do some research, dredge up a more interesting template, we can probably work it in.
All in favour chant 'Yes, young master' in a smug tone of voice.
Azri, the Lich of Khalharum
Yes, Young Master.
By the way, the Eldritch Template from the Advanced Bestiary can also be used to upgrade existing templates. If nothing else, it might be a good reference point for reasonably balanced improvement, and I can copy the text if needed.
Also, I'll probably stick with having Azri's DR increase as she levels, regardless of what else happens. XD DR/15 at this point would be completely ridiculous, after all.
Yao Mihara
Yes, Young Master.
If it's any help, Mihara's template upgrades at level 10, and if (or when) she picks up Spell Resistance, it'll level naturally rather than come all at once.)
... you may want to have some meleers start packing Cold Iron, though, once she starts being famous.
As far as special abilities go, the one you should most be wary of, with Mihara, is the 10ft/level teleport as a move action every 1d4 rounds she can do.
Ayreth

Yes, Young Master.
/shakes head. Huh, what just happened?
If it's not level 5, and perhaps even if it is, we have some time, I'm guessing. So, I'll probably see how our story develops and see if anything fitting shows up. I suppose there is always the Advanced template if it comes down to it, but there are now some ideas brewing in the ol' noggin.
No worries, you've done one 'liberate the slaves' scene you'd done them all until you're a pretty blonde teen with dragons.
Well-played, Young Master, well-played. Speaking of dragons......
Selena Halfblood
Yes, Young Master
*Half-Succubus wink*
I'm most looking forward to having the DR, as I'm a little squishy. The other things we cut were the doubled fly speed, the natural attacks and the Smite Good ability.
I'd honestly keep the fly speed equal to my land speed: as a Monk I get increase to that once in a while, and it could get out of hand if the fly speed is double that. (100 ft. fly speed at level 6)
The natural attacks are a little useless, as I have the monk unarmed damage, and I'm investing ine feats and abilities to make the damage die count as larger size categories to up the constrict damage.
Even if I had Smite Good, I wouldn't have much uses for that: if Foxy was CG, I could at least use that to get a bonus to grapple her while she's in fox form, but I don't see a lot of other applications for that. :P
Maybe change it to Smite Law or something?
Nigrum Ensis Halfblood
Yes, Young Master
Anyways I will look into some stuff when I have time. Concerning spell resistance being a problem. For your baddies it should not be sense ours are pretty tame for our level and won't jump like monsters because our hit die doesn't jump as well. Currently Nigrum's SR is 15, a 4th level pure caster with spell penetration and greater spell penetration will have +8 to overcome SR. A roll of 7 or better is not asking much and more then fair to the baddie. There is also metamagic that helps boost spells to overcome SR and reduce SR if I remember right. Throw in items like Orange Prism Ioun stone for a caster bump and at high levels Robe of the Archmagi and honestly the gap will close to the point where SR will be fazed out or nearly so by high level spellcasters concerning us. Anyways baddies tend to use save or die spells which are always easier for them then us because they only ever need to take out 6 targets to win. I got no pity for them. xP
Yao Mihara
if Foxy was CG
Eep! *scampers away*
... as it happens, I kind of did change her alignment ear;y on because I realized that she acted a lot more CG than the CN she originally had. ^^;;
Selena Halfblood
Didn't notice that! Now I'm torn, then. :P
Azri, the Lich of Khalharum
I mean, Azri's good
Neutral, actually. XD ...And I don't think Witches actually have "Raise Undead" spells at their disposal... so we're stuck with a good old-fashioned skeleton crew of normal people (perhaps mainly slaves, with one or two of Whitebeard's crew to guide them?).
Selena Halfblood
Azri's post raised an important point: what are we going to do with the (ex) slaves? Some of them probably have nowhere to go, so we could ask them if they want to live in Khalarum, but I guess that the majority of them have somewhere to go back to: wouldn't it be better to send them with the Andorans* right now?
* If they're trying to trick us, they won't get past our Adorable Zombie-girl Radar Incredible (A.Z.R.I) ;)
EDIT: by the way, it seems that the Mythic Hero's handbook, the one from Mythic Mania with all the Mythic player stuff, will come out in July, around GenCon.
JonGarrett
It'll be interesting to see what you folks do with the former slaves. Or what you can convince them to do.
Also, a quick rundown of what I'm doing;
You'll notice among your pile of phat lootz that I've given you some Build Points and Trade points. These, and some other things, will be spendable upon taking full control of Khalharum, but you can start collecting them now.
Build Points - Raw material, labour or magic that helps put brick on top of brick.
Trade Points - Goods, agreements and promises that get merchants moving.
Defence Points - Big Walls, bigger guns and troops that keep your city safe.
Attack Points - Soldiers, weapons for them to hold and magic that makes enemies go 'pop'.
Diplomacy Points - For making deals, finding allies and making foes look dumb.
You'll be able to spend those points to do certain things, depending on the situation. Someone rolling diplomacy to enlist allies, for example, might spend a point from the diplomacy pool to boost there roll. Or you might spend 3 build points to build a new housing block. You'll be able to find some, earn others and hopefully generate all five through proper city management.
And by spreading them out a bit, I'm hoping to avoid 'Build Point' glut Kingmaker games often suffer from.
Any questions? Additional categories you think I should add, etc?
Azri, the Lich of Khalharum
I think I'd like to see how things play out before making suggestions on modifications to the system. ^^ I haven't done much with kingdom-building rules before, but... perhaps future categories could be more for luxury elements (products that improve morale, clean the city, support individual goals, etc. - for after the city is up and running properly).
Nigrum Ensis Halfblood
I would add Wonder Points, points that can be used to create unique and/or beyond the norm things as well as influence epic events. Like say Azri wants to build a magic school well she uses up build points to build it but uses up some wonder points to make it a floating tower with orbiting platforms. Outside of building lets say wonder points are an option when a event of epic proportions pop up like a fleet of ships is about to attack the city, using wonder points lady luck would have it that they ran afoul a passing brine dragon which caused a good deal of damage to their ships a mere half day ago.
Just a suggestion. ;)
Selena Halfblood
Yeah, I'll wait to see how things are working before adding things up, too.
Once we identify the items, does someone want to start a loot list? We just got minor things since now, so it wasn't needed. By the way, who wants the handy haversack? I'll say either Azri or Ayreth, so they can pick up swiftly any scrolls they might have.
PS: Money *.* One step closer to the Belt of Anaconda's Coils!
Yao Mihara
If I'd picked Use Magic Device I'd probably ask for the bag myself for many magic doodads, but, in the absense of that, I don't think I can make much use of it myself either. If we're going to use it as party storage, I could carry it if you guys want; between her flight speed, her acrobatics, and her Long Step ability, Mihara is (I think) the most mobile member of the party.
If someone needs its functions, though, I'd much rather they have it.
JonGarrett
The ring is a Ring of Featherfall
The patch is a Pirate's Eye Patch.
The armour is Mistmail.
Yao Mihara
Some questions:
-Does the Mistmail continue to armor the wearer while in mist form?
-With the fog being localized around the wearer and his/her space, can it still be used to use stealth for sneak attacking?
I would be interested in the Mistmail, though I can understand if others are also interested. Mihara currently uses a Mithral Shirt, which I would gladly offer to someone who needs it.
I have little interest in the other two items.
