Then maybe we look at purchasing 1 Str +2 Composite Longbow and get 2 upgrades out of it. The advantage of having this sort of discussion.

Very generous.

Special materials are typically far more restricted than stock mundane items.

If you want to give down this path, we should build and come to a consensus on a prioritized master purchase list.

I know Grim is just as interested in a mithral shirt and wants a Str +1 Composite Longbow. More than one item is a major part of why I think a consensus priority list could be important.

We should also figure on trading in the stuff we won't want to carry.

I like the idea. So perhaps party members could enter 1 or 2 items they're particularly interested in (or in dire need of) on the loot sheet? Though, I don't think Brom will be wanting for much once he's got the mithral shirt.

I don't know that there's anything in particular Porablum would be looking for, except maybe a wand of cure light wounds - which is just good from a party standpoint. Maybe a masterwork light shield? A little something to bump the AC without decreasing my attack rolls. Other than that, she's pretty good to go.

Male Ulfen Human Ranger (Woodland Skirmisher) 2; HP24/24; AC17 T14 F13 CMD17; F+4 R+7 W+2; Perception+8+

So, for the wishlist, I hear:

1100 Mithral Shirt
1100 Mithral Shirt
600 MW Str+2 Composite Longbow (or non-MW for 300)
153 MW Light Wooden Shield
750 Wand CLW
5 per pair snowshoes
8 per set cold weather gear
.5 per day per person for trail rations

Maybe more arrows?

tent options
10 - one medium creature
15 - two medium creature
30 - four medium creatures

We are 4 medium and 1 small characters, so with GM permission we might be able to cuddle up inside a single 4 man tent to help preserve warmth.

Grim has cold weather gear. I think Asvidrson might.

I seem to remember we have 1 set of snowshoes.

Still need to hear from Advirson, I think.

If we find everything on the wish list, that would free up for trade Studded Leather Armor, Leather Armor, and Longbow. Right?

I have a cold weather outfit, too. Porablum's mom knitted the hat herself.

Rations are a good thought, too. We don't want to run out of food, after all.

as Grim said, if anyone needs anything, now is the time to speak up. It may seem like I'm being generous, but it -might- be a while before you get another chance to buy and sell much of anything.

Compass
Heatstones
A few extra winter blankets...

Cold weather outfit -even though the cold effects are redundant with the cloak of the yeti, it should look more inconspicuous and it wouldn't hurt to have a spare set if needed.
Snowshoes
Arrows
Str+2 Composite Longbow (I would go for the MW version with the permission of the party)

Cut'n'paste for all my games.

Thursday, 18 July, in the wee hours of the morning, I get on an airplane and leave for the international Boy Scout World Jamboree. I'll be 1 of the roughly 120 people working on JUST the archery ranges, helping the attendees have some fun.

I will have only my phone for electronic access, but AT&T has wired the dickens out of the facility, and a signal should never be my problem. Power on the other hand . . .. There will be a limited number of places to plug things in (compared to the tens of thousands of attendees) and no safe place to plug something in and walk away from it, which means time spent charging is time spent NOT doing any of the things people are there to do.

I am going to try to check in and cover anything I should cover, but I don't know for sure how well it is going to go.

I won't be home again until 3 August.

Actually, part of the reason I've been less responsive the past little bit is I've been getting ready to go. Still have a lot to do, honestly.

If you need to bot me to keep the story moving, BOT ME.

I am at Pennsic War 48 till August 11th and I will be back to normal posting at that time.

I have my phone and I have the ability to post but the responses will be limited and at odd times. I will have to limit how often I post as my wife has gotten my oldest daughter involved in pokemon go. This is eating up a lot of our data for our phones. I want her to enjoy the game so I am limiting what I do with my phone until we get back home. If it is needed..bot me.
Thank you.

"Life is what happens while you are making other plans."

On my arrival day at the World Scout Jamboree, I got caught in a DELUGE of rain. My phone refused to charge because of water detected in the charging port. It has been drained of power sitting in a ziploc bag of rice for a couple of weeks, and STILL reports water in the charging port.

I'll find out later how bad off my phone really is. It can charge through induction, at the worst. Just didn't have any induction chargers at the Jamboree!

Posting this to my games, and I will come back later today and try ot catch up through them.

Thank you for your understanding!

Oh, and the group of 16 staffers (including me) running the 30-target 10m static archery range had people step up to the Shooting Line and throw arrows downrange almost 10,000 times (for 50,000 arrows), including 1 blind archer, 1 wheel-chair bound archer that we held up so she could hoot standing like everyone else, and 1 one-armed archer.

So, Porablum is actually a terrible choice to use the Black Rider's cloak.

1) Alter Self into the Black Rider likely means the form of a human male, medium sized, for +2 Strength (Porablum is a finesse fighter).

2) Darkvision is nice.

3) The cold aura is nice, but my effective speed in the snow is 10' per round thanks to the snow shoes, so it takes me a long time to get close enough to use it.

4) The armor bonus equals my normal armor.

I think Hjorleaf, Easlis, or maybe Brom are the best options for using the cloak.

Also, Hjorleaf, assume Porablum healed you to max during our day in Waldsby. If I'd realized you were down HP, I would have rolled it up.

I don't want to push you into one plan or another, but I'd like to see us move this forward soon. this part is left very open to your own plan, and every group i have done this with has come up with a slightly different way of getting in. once you have a plan, post an action that sets the plan in motion and I will post again. otherwise I will just post to answer questions but will wait and leave you room to discuss and plan your way in.

Also, I'd like to apologize for any delays I've had in posting recently. Work has been extremely busy as we were preparing for the governor of our state to visit our warehouse for a ribbon cutting ceremony. I typically post during breaks at work so I can give attention to my kids and wife at home. Now that the event is over and we're not working through breaks, I should be able to post more regularly.

RoW maps

sorry for the confusion on what the rounds were there. it made things confusing because everyone was already in combat rounds before brominate opened the door. everyone had one action from the round where brominate opened and ran through the door. everyone but Grim and Hjorleaf had posted movement in that round.

I had grim and hjorleaf move for that round plus the next round because they had only posted free speaking actions when the door opened.

those actions were Hjorleaf moving to the door and Grim pushing past Brom and getting into the middle of the top 2 guards.

then the guards acted, smacking brom around. on that round, the party acted with Porablum casting shield of faith, easlis casting grease, Grim walking and shooting, Hjorleaf hitting the captain and brom tumbling and stabbing.

now the guards are up, and i will get that post up shortly. as shortly as a messy combat like this can go for a GM post

RoW maps

Porablum, where is your cone going for color spray? are you firing from your current position, or are you moving in front of Easlis to do it? if you could mark your color spray or just describe which squares you want it to hit that would be helpful. also, don't forget the concentration check to cast it without taking an AoO from the sergeant!

as an aside, don't forget that Porablum has no idea what anyone is saying! she probably wouldn't need Hjorleaf to tell her what to do to cast a spell, but just as a reminder in case anyone starts yelling out directions or plans to her.

"Magic Rainbows!!" probably sounds way cooler in Celestial though, so there's that

RoW maps

@Easlis pretty sure this is why the enemies think Hjorleaf is the Black Rider. unless I missed a point where he turned it back off?

@Porablum - i like Porablum's musings on the benefits of having bad liars in the party, but don't forget she has literally no idea what Hjorleaf is saying.

For the record, if you look at Grim's background, there's no way he is going to let his inaction be responsible for someone else's death.

If you guys don't get to him, you don't get to him. This would be a very clean death for the character.

Yeah, I would rather keep playing him, but this is far from the worst way he could go out.

I have been going through some rough personal stuff lately and I am sorry that I have not been as active as I would like. The quantity of my posts is not there nor is the quality. Planning to move in a couple of months (again) with the drama of personal life and the stress of figuring out all the logistics of the schools for the kids, housing, new doctors and my wife's career is just one huge quagmire of red tape and hoops to jump through. This has all led me to a state of total physical, mental and emotionally drained.

I plan to keep up as best I can with the games but as I know you understand, this is a game and will take a back seat to RL.
Bot me as you need to. I hope and pray that this mess is resolved soon and life goes back to normal.

Hey. I have surgery in the morning. Pretty minor, but it IS surgery. Outpatient, with a normal "don't work" period of 2 days, and a "no exertion" period of like 6 weeks.

I should be giving all my games another pass this evening, but I make no promises for the next day or two.

What is it? An umbilical hernia repair. Surgeon says I have multiple hernias right there together. All I know for sure is the general practitioner who referred em to the surgeon had it right when he said it looks like I'm going to give birth to a Titleist.

Was at the hospital from about 0730 till about 1615. Home. reasonably awake, and medicated. The entire area over the hernia and belly button is under s bandage I'm not supposed to touch until Saturday, so all I know is I have some ugly looking injuries from where the laparoscopic entry points were on my left side. Not as limited in my movements this morning as I thought I would be, which is good. Abdominal muscles are a little tight, though. Don't think I can blame them. I figured they would be a LOT more mad than they seem to be.

I think it may be time to step in and remind everyone to be civil in your RP. I know you are trying to get into character, but I feel that the antagonism towards Easlis is getting a bit too overbearing. it makes it hard to keep things moving when any statement (even a single line) made by one PC is replied to aggressively and extensively. there is a difference between trying to RP some racial or viewpoint friction and being antagonistic. let's work a bit more on having the PCs get over their issues and work together to fight the greater evil.

It would have been better if I'd had read the message above before posting in the gameplay area. It's likely that I would have not added fuel to the fire if I'd known you were concerned about this.

From my point of view as long as the conflict is strictly in character and the players don't get emotionally involved it might help to build up connections between characters. But I don't want this to grow such that it would overshadow the plot or would hinder its progress making gameplay less enjoyable for the other players.

RoW maps

as long as everyone is ok with the level of antagonism I won't push back too much, I just wanted to flag it as a concern. let's just try to make sure that inner party conflict doesn't overshadow encounters too much. if anyone is uncomfortable with the RP or feels like things are going too far please feel free to message me and I'll step in again

I'm moving this conversation over to discussion, because I genuinely don't see Grim's logic that the presented solutions weren't satisfactory.

Tying her up and locking her in a closet seemed a perfectly acceptable way to neutralize her without combat. Here's my reasoning for it:

The Escape Artist DC is set at 20 + the tying person's CMB. Hjorleaf tying her up sets the DC at 27. We have no indication she's trained in Escape Artist, which means that could have been a guarantee of her not getting untied until we untied her, barring an extremely high Dex bonus (if she has a Dex bonus that high, we're probably screwed anyway). Plus, if the door is locked and we make sure she doesn't have a key on her, she would need to either cast a spell to open the door or pick the lock. If she's not trained in Disable Device, then she can't get out of there without breaking down the door using mundane methods. Tying her up makes sure she can't get open the door using magic, unless she manages to escape the bonds.

I would like to know what Grim's reasoning was that that wasn't an acceptable solution.

What are her skill limits? What spells does she have prepped?

There is no basis but desire for expecting any of the submitted paths keeping the people we have accepted responsibility for safe.

Desire neither defines nor limits the threat.

Being guided by desire instead of cold evaluation leads to harm where there was supposed to be protection.
