Open for business.
Please note that I am in Arizona and will be posting a bit later in the day.
What say you people regarding this idea:
Give me say 20 d20 rolls, then i will apply them in order for passive rolls such as perception, trapfinding, sense motive?, etc.
Appreciate it, having fun so far.
Thanks for letting us know location. Georgia here (GMT-5), and a new baby, so EST +/- "baby time". Suffice to say, I'm usually able to post a couple times a day, but times may vary.
I'm fine with it:

For my part, I'm also fine if you need to roll something for Aedon to keep the story moving.
I'll post some of the items I mentioned in the gameplay thread in a day or so.
Thanks

Greater Kansas City area for me. I spend way too much time on-line so expect lots of posts from me. If it looks like I won't be posting for a while I will be sure to warn you guys first.

Thank you, I like to keep the feel of the players making their own rolls, but like to not get stopped when someone needs to make a roll to continue the party action.
Generally I can check at least twice a day. Major or significant posts will often be in the evening when I get home and can open up my hard copy books.
I keep a small binder at work with printouts of pertinent pages and data for easy reference during the day. And d20pfsrd is my best friend.

Currently in California at GMT -8, but July 15th I'll be traveling to Norway for an extended visit with my husband and at GMT +1 through the end of October.
I post frequently as well, depending on the action, of course.

I don't want to have anyone feeling left out, so, is there anyone that can't check in and respond at least once per day? and if so, morning or afternoon?
It looks like we have a couple of people that can respond more often. We have two options, pace the game at one or two GM postings per day, or the players that will be posting a bit more sedately can give intentions and if/then's. Significant events will still be paused for all to respond on.
Combat I'd like to do with everyone posting their action for the turn, then I will recap the turn's events. That way we aren't necessarily waiting for everyone to post on their initiative.

Whatever works for you works for me. Seems like most of us can post at least once a day, so it seems the first option may be our default speed.

Sounds good. Out of curiosity, are you planning to use a grid/map with coordinates (A1, B5, etc) during combat, or do you typically run fights without a map?

DM Fnord |
depends on the fight. I'll be working on using something (maybe flickr, have been looking at a couple of options) for bigger or more involved fights with coordinates, simpler encounters might just be a google spreadsheet in a grid with initials to note location. and some are likely to be so quick that no map is needed.
I personally like having a visual reference, especially with the way pacing can occur in a pbp.

Aedon Tellefleur |

I've become a fan of the google spreadsheet method myself. Of course, I spend my days in Excel so I'm partial to staring at grids on my screen.
I was also thinking about keeping a character journal of the adventure (from Aedon's perspective) if that's not a problem.

Kari of the Wylds |

ooh, really? Well, not for the rewards, but I suppose it could be fun to compare stuff later on from different characters perspectives, especially as we get into the meat and potatoes discussions like as to what to do with the bandits.
*strokes chin*
mmmm

Rufus Fitzroi |

I've been considering something like that myself, as much to serve a reminder of what has happened/how I felt about it at the time as anything else. Although the opportunity to see how others viewed the events in question can be fun as well.

Kari of the Wylds |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

I'm lurking, just waiting for a description of the evening from our friendly neighborhood GM before I move things forward. Or like "you wake up with a severed horse head in your bedroom, roll your San check." :P

Kari of the Wylds |

You know what they don't have in the Core equipment list? A currying brush. How are we supposed to groom our mounts without a currying brush?
I sort of assume that the incidentals are covered in the purchase. It's like there's no list for 'hairbrush' in the CRB, but you can assume that folk aren't running around with matted hair infested with lice and fleas and ticks. The only thing you CAN buy that's vanity related is a shaving kit and a mirror. Who decided that was relevant?
Silly Paizo.

DM Fnord |
Agreed, unless your mount is combat trained it will not like being under you. Ride DC to control a non-combat trained mount in battle is 20, combat trained is 10.
Personal incidentals are 'free' anything that goes beyond background, such as gold plating, enchanted, etc would be costly and should be recorded.
If you really, really need to track something, then you can take:
Personal Basics: 1 silver, 1 lb. A small kit containing personal hygiene materials. The kit is about six inches by three inches and contains items like, a small razor, comb, brush, nail file, tooth picks, some cotton, a small bar of soap. The soap needs replenishing every 20 uses.
Personal Basics, Premium: 5 gold, 2 lbs. Like the basic kit, but the kit bag is twice as wide and hand crafted leather with your personal crest embroidered on it. The brushes and handles are mother-of-pearl or plated with a precious metal, the kit contains a vial of perfume and fine soap, as well as a soft washcloth. The soap and perfume need replenishing every 20 uses.
Personal Basics, Noble: 75 gold, 30 lbs. The best of personal hygene kits, the combs and brushes are jewel encrusted, the case can be folded for transportation and is 18 inches by six inches by 12 inches. When unfolded, it provides a small stool, table, and a mirror attached to the table with candle holders on either side. An array of soaps and perfumes is included. The soaps and perfumes need replenishing every 20 uses. This kit provides a +1 circumstance bonus to diplomacy checks.
:-)

Rufus Fitzroi |

Obviously Gizsmith & Aedon must have the Personal Basics, Noble at the first possible opportunity!
;P
Actually, now that I think of it, Rufus needs to get that shaving kit & mirror at least...

Gizsmith Glitterbyte |

Hey Rufus, I think we have done enough to establish that Gizsmith and Rufus don't particularly care for each other.
I don't really want to derail the campaign anymore than we already have, so truce, OK?
That isn't to say Gizsmith wont still be completely ridiculous, he is a gnome bard after all, but I'll try to keep his antagonism down to the occasional wry remark.
Though I must say, I was looking forward to changing the colour of you dog while you were sleeping :)
Anyways, back to the bandit butchery!

Rufus Fitzroi |

But, but... Self-important arguments with immature pipsqueaks is why I spun up this character!
just kidding, yup, sounds good!

Salvator |

Would Handle Animal be the skill used for stabling animals? If so, Salvator wouldn't be incompetent at it.
On the other hand, for our surprise attack, I suppose I'd best let everyone know that Salvator is about as stealthy as an Ultramarine in a desert.

Aedon Tellefleur |

Well, all characters can ride a horse, but those who have training in the Ride skill can accomplish things that normal people couldn't even attempt. Using that as an example, everyone should be able to provide basic care for an animal, but those with ranks in Handle Animal can do it really well.
As a real life example, I can take care of my dog, but the people who show their pets at the Westminster Kennel Club can do it "better."
Nice reference. No worries, Aedon isn't counting on Salvator to be stealthy. ;)
EDIT: Just in case we need a disclaimer... all the above is my opinion based on how I've played and ruled. Obviously our DM has final call.

I'm not sure how I missed this, but better late than never I guess.
1d20 ⇒ 1, 1d20 ⇒ 15, 1d20 ⇒ 20, 1d20 ⇒ 19, 1d20 ⇒ 10,
1d20 ⇒ 10, 1d20 ⇒ 7, 1d20 ⇒ 11, 1d20 ⇒ 11, 1d20 ⇒ 4,
1d20 ⇒ 5, 1d20 ⇒ 8, 1d20 ⇒ 5, 1d20 ⇒ 18, 1d20 ⇒ 14,
1d20 ⇒ 3, 1d20 ⇒ 10, 1d20 ⇒ 15, 1d20 ⇒ 11, 1d20 ⇒ 17,

DM Fnord |
I like seeing some realism in playing to personalities, and conflicting personalities. And I have certainly enjoyed reading the dialogue.
Personally i find it adds to the enjoyment and flavor of the game. But let me emphasize that such contention must be enjoyed. This is one of the areas that I expect a little bit of meta-gaming to keep the overall group homogeneous. While characters may never really like each other, their players will justify reasons why the characters will continue to work together.
Thanks for the rolls Gizsmith.
For those that are familiar with the campaign, I will be introducing minor changes (like the absence of a definitive notice of when the bandits are due next), and will be making similar minor edits to the game to keep everyone entertained.
As for animal handling, riding, and caring for animals. I expect that minor capabilities really don't need any ranks or specific knowledge, it's only when it gets to a point where it becomes complex that skill is really needed.
Anyone can ride a horse. But if you want to be jumping hedges, poking with a lance, or performing circus tricks, you better have some ride skill. If you want to teach your mount how to do those circus tricks, or train a guard dog, you better have some handle animal, otherwise, your dog will know where to take a crap about as well as my four do, in the back yard, anywhere.
Proper caring for an animal when the materials and tools are available is something I would list as DC 5, and you can take 10, untrained.
I'll let you know when a roll is needed due to the circumstances. Otherwise, for the purpose of literary enjoyment, I allow substantial poetic license. Prestidigitation can be used to do just about anything not proscribed by the definition. Same with other actions, as long as it isn't to provide a combat or economic/social bonus that requires an actual feat or ability, players may poetically describe actions that would normally push the boundaries of legal game mechanics.
I also like seeing players that bring up and use skills, feats, traits in their postings as that flavoring of the text.

Rufus Fitzroi |

Rufus, being a Cavalier, has... high standards of what qualifies as proper care & grooming of horses & other 'noble' beasts of burden. He also tends to grumble about animal care when he is aggravated but can't really address the source of his aggravation directly. He & Oleg will probably get along fine if we manage to address this bandit problem. That or they will not be able to stand the sight of each other...

Kari of the Wylds |

I was once going to use Presti to make a glass of water taste like... something else for a lecherous NPC male, but then I realized I didn't have the presti spell.
That was the saddest day I have ever had RP wise.
Presti making bubbles as strong as glass so I can use my sleight of hand to whirl them around like the magician behind David Bowe in Labyrinth... *scratches chin*

DM Fnord |
If you all really feel it will be necessary, I can draw up a map of the Outpost and surroundings, though after this first encounter it will probably have limited usage, unless you are planning to engage the bandits outside the fort?
Please note that I will be traveling and have limited internet next Thursday through the following Wednesday.
Once combat starts, I will ask for intents and secondary actions.
Everyone will need to roll for initiative. Everyone may also present their primary/secondary actions. I will then post a recap in initiative order. With pbp games I find that it can be a real drag to wait for each person in turn. So I would like to go with this method.

Rufus Fitzroi |

nit picking point, Calistril, being equivalent to February, only has 28 or 29 days. I bring this up because I was going to start posting an IC log on the Campaign log forum & I was intending the post to basically be letters Rufus wrote to his dead mother. With the dates on the letters. As my Web fu is weak, I probably won't be successful at posting a link but I will post the title of the thread once I start.

DM Fnord |
I had a calendar someplace, don't recall where it was. I thought I read that all the months were 30 days equally. If you have a link, please share it, or at least a source.
Due to the nature of this campaign, keeping track of the dates will be important as the campaign will take years, and for any of the shorter lived races, players may need to consider lineage as well.

Page 248 of the Inner Sea World Guide Campaign Setting. Or you could check out This thread, on one of the Links, the guys not only plotted out the Calendar for something like a decade, he also put in all the Holidays.

Had an interesting realization for why Rufus acts they way he does. Which is to say hyper-aware & suspicious. He has a mild case of PTSD from his time as a squire on the boarder between between the River Kingdoms & Galt.
