Yorad stabs up at the Blue Stirge, expertly eviscerating it, and then slicing it in two!
ORDER: Sophia, Sheela, Princess, Corona, Yorad, Mort, Purple Stirge (dead), Blue Stirge (dead), Green Stirge (netted)
Only Corona is up!
Corona Merrion
|
| 2 people marked this as a favorite. |
Though Corona would very much like to move forward with the rest of her team, she finds herself thrown oddly off-kilter by the appearance of the stirges. "Ooh...I feel dizzy," she groans. "But you're all doing so well, New Friends...just give me a moment okay?" she calls as she waves her hand in a 'go ahead' gesture.
What a horrible night day to have a curse...Powerless Prophecy kicks in. Corona will hit the party with Bless this round, as she is staggered.
| GM Hmm |
Corona blesses the party! +1 to attack
The green stirge frantically tries to escape the net!
Escape Artist, Entangled: 1d20 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (12) + 4 - 2 = 14
It fails!
Meanwhile, elsewhere in the arena you see a bunch of stirges latch on to one of the guys in the Red and Black uniforms. Other adventuring parties are either slaughtering their monsters, or running from them in terror.
Still the tengus in the robes are advancing towards you.
ORDER: Sophia, Sheela, Princess, Corona, Yorad, Mort, Stirge
The whole party is up and blessed!
Yorad Cinderhunter
|
Yorad stabs at the entangled stirge almost negligently, his focus on the approaching tengus. "Look sharp everyone."
Standard action: Attack the Stirge.
dagger, bless: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 3 + 1 = 22
damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Sophia Palescale
|
Sophia isn't feeling much for being stormed at soon, so she walks back south.
She casts acid splash agin.
Rt: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 51d3 ⇒ 3
The 1st tengu to approach within 30 feet of Sophia, will become marked as the new target of her hypnotic stare.
| GM Hmm |
Yorad kills off the last stirge.
All that is left are the tengu, who are still approaching, swords raised.
Mort Gloomhollow
|
Do we recognize the tengu at all from the brawl as maybe another group that was fighting for rubies?
Seeing the last blood sucker fall to Yorad, Mort tries to get a better look at these bird people heading in their direction. "Lets be sure to separate friend from foe, remember what the ringmaster said about fighting together."
5' step, move action to study target red, standard action to make a perception check
Perception + Study: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 4 + 1 = 23
| GM Hmm |
Oh, and I forgot to post this in my last post:
Sophia splashes and misses! Mort studies. These tengu are not familiar as fellow contestants.
ORDER: Sophia, Sheela, Princess, Corona, Yorad, Mort,
Sheela, Princess, Corona are up! The tengu wil show up next round. What would you like to do?
"Princess" Tiffany
|
Tiffany nods at Mort, retrieving her net from the fallen stirge and taking a wing with it. As she flips the wing into her mouth, she pulls the net up into one hand and takes out a sword with the other. "Let's be ready either way. The Tengu might think of me like I thought of those stirges!" She shudders.
Move to retrieve net, free to eat a stirge wing, standard to ready an action to toss a net at blue if it comes within 10'.
Corona Merrion
|
Now over her bout of dizziness, Corona draws her longspear and moves to stand near Mort. "Okay, ready! Let's show them what we're made of, New Friends!"
Move action to draw her weapon, then another move to her current map position!
Sheela Kolphan

"They haven't said or done much to us, have they?" Sheela seems inquisitive. "Hello there, friend! Care to say hello?"
Sheela moves up behind the pillar and tries to charm the blue-robed tengu.
Casting Charm Person. Will Save DC 15 or we're besties!
| GM Hmm |
Blue Tengu Will Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Well, you're besties, Sheela!
He smiles, "Er... Hello! We should get you somewhere a little safer."
The other tengu monks come in raising their swords....
Blue Monk: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Red & Green Monks: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Man, why are all my bad guys slow?
...but they are slowed down by avoiding all the trap doors in the floor that are opening and closing all around them. The party gets to act first.
ORDER: Sophia, Sheela, Princess, Corona, Yorad, Mort, Monks
The whole party is up!
Sophia Palescale
|
Since Red tengu stepped within 30 feet, he's become the target of Sophia's Hypnotic stare.
Birdy takes that nice -2 will penalty.
"Bugs, birds....it's like we're seeing a food chain come at us.
What's next, cats?"
Sophia casts Daze on the tengu.
Mort Gloomhollow
|
Sorry to be brief but its 6am and I need to leave to go fishin'!
Mort steps up towards the bright red bird, watches his movements and times his swing, hoping whatever Corona did helps his aim... Not as much as he hoped. "I'm starting to think this sword is cursed..."
Study Target (Move Action)
Greatsword + Study + Power Attack + Bless: 1d20 + 5 + 1 - 1 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 5 + 1 - 1 + 1 = 142d6 + 6 + 1 + 3 ⇒ (2, 5) + 6 + 1 + 3 = 17
Corona Merrion
|
"A food chain? You're right! How funny," Corona laughs as she steps toward the approaching tengu. "Um...but nothing personal, you know? Just helping my New Friends!" she addresses the bird as she attempts to skewer him with her longspear.
Attack vs. Red (Cold Iron Longspear; Bless): 1d20 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 + 1 = 5
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
"Ack! Um...guess I need to practice more," she frowns as her jab soundly misses.
Btw Mort I moved you on the map. I'm guessing a 5 foot step, then the study as a move action, then the attack.
Sheela Kolphan
|
Sheela takes the opportunity to retrieve her wand of Mage Armor and applies it. A translucent blue field forms around her. "Well then, could you tell your friends to stand down? My friends think they are foes!"
Move Action: Pull a wand of Mage Armor
Standard Action: Using the wand. +4 to AC!
Also 5ft stepping away from Green.
"Princess" Tiffany
|
"The food chain is what has me worried, Sophia!" Tiffany says as she scrambles ahead and does what she does best, tossing a net at blue.
Net, melee reach: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
.. And catching the bird. "Gotcha, beaked one! No grippli dinner for you!" Even still, Bebop hides under Tiffany's shirt.
| GM Hmm |
Red Tengu Will Save, after stare: 1d20 - 2 + 3 ⇒ (1) - 2 + 3 = 2
Red is dazed!
Mort actually hits the monk, and brings it down!
Red, Stabilize?: 1d20 - 8 ⇒ (10) - 8 = 2
Green bows to Yorad and the others, and says, "Honorable opponents, may I have your leave to take my wounded companion from the field? He is dying. I will return to fight afterwards, I promise."
The Charmed Blue gets netted by Tiffany. While netted, he looks to Sheela, and says, "We are honor bound to fight, milady. I cannot call them off, but I can see you safely out of here before we fight again. Once I figure my way out of this net, that is."
"Princess" Tiffany
|
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Tiffany glares at the blue tengu as she holds her net tightly. "I don't buy it! Why would you come at us with your swords raised? Just 'cause I'm small doesn't mean I'm stupid!!"
| GM Hmm |
"Because it is our honor to test all candidates for the Ruby Phoenix Tournament. If you have come here, you have come to fight. Am I wrong?" Blue asks, puzzled.
Yorad Cinderhunter
|
Yorad shakes his head in disgust at Tiffany. "By the Hells, let him recover his companion. We are not cold-blooded murderers."
He does keep his knife at the ready.
Delaying.
| GM Hmm |

Green runs to Red and rips a strip of cloth from his own robes to staunch the wound...
Untrained Heal: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
...but he does not succeed. He leans over his comrade, and says, "いいえ、私の名誉ある友人と一緒にいてください。お願いします。"
"No, stay with me honored friend. Please."
Meanwhile, Blue attempts to escape the net...
Escape Artist, Entangled: 1d20 + 7 - 2 ⇒ (15) + 7 - 2 = 20
...and will be free at the start of his next turn. You see the Blue robed tengu twisting and turning, black feathers shedding as he attempts to free himself from the net. "Tournament rules state that we cannot admit defeat until we are actually defeated, milady. We can merely call for a pause. Which we are doing now. If one of you went down to our swords we would do the same."
Sophia Palescale
|
"For what it's worth, i think it plausible the bird speaks the truth. If they are honorbound to the rules, violating them will often means punishment, which can be death in big arenas.", Sophia muses to the others.
She speaks to the tengu who was netted.
"I have no issue with that."
Yorad Cinderhunter
|
"That is...music to my ears." Yorad comments as he moves up closer to the tengu, knife at the ready. "Glad to see honor still exists out there!"
Move to position on map.
Ready action to strike the Blue Tengu should he enter melee.
dagger: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
"Princess" Tiffany

Tiffany sticks her tongue out at Yorad. "Oh puh-leease. For someone who finds these birds so honorable, you sure seem to be happy flashing that dagger around. What's wrong? I thought you trusted them! Hmph!" The "princess" drops the trailing rope of the net and folds her arms across her chest, pouting.
| GM Hmm |
No longer needing to escape the net, Blue rushes to Red's side, similarly trying to staunch the wounds by tearing strips of fabric from his robes.
Untrained Heal: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
"He is still bleeding!"
The two monks work together to carry their companion out. Do any of you do anything in the meantime?
Sophia Palescale
|
Sophia ponders on the situation, but the Obvious lack of attacking the team and frantic trying to rescue their comrade, has her take a gamble.
"私はあなたが私の前の場所に戻ってきてくれると信じています、もしあなたがあなたの兄弟を救出しようとするなら、あなたは助けてくれますか? あなたは結局結束しています。"
"I trust you will let me return to my previous spot, if i aid you in trying to rescue your brother, yes? You are honor bound after all."
If the tengu give their word, Sophia approaches them, and tries to aid other in saving the fallen tengu.
Untrained heal, aid other: 1d20 ⇒ 13
Looking at Yorad, who says something about honor thankfully still existing, she motions with a finger.
"Help me, and we can get the actual show back on the road."
"If everyone is so worried, then keep your actions ready.
But í won't be a passive spectator to a death in this manner."
Sheela Kolphan
|
"Alright, alright." Sheela tucks one wand away and draws another. "I'll heal your friend- although my other friends are better at it, so if any of them want to take over, I'll gladly let them. But remember: he lost honorably in the field of battle." Sheela walks over to Red's body.
Move Action: Stow wand of Mage Armor
Standard Action: Get wand of Cure Light Wounds
Next round
Move Action: Move to Red's body
Standard Action: Try to use the wand
Use Magic Device: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Sheela fumbles with the wand for a bit, then gets the gestures right. Holy energy transfers to the Red-hooded tengu and closes his wounds, stopping the bleeding.

"We give our word." Red stabilizes, but does not return to consciousness. His friends bow to you, then carry him out of the arena. They return back to their prior locations. "Thank you. We will wait for those of you who moved to reposition." He nods to Sheela and Sophia. "When you are ready, please bow, and we will start again."
Sheela and Sophia, let me know when you are ready and the GM will reroll initiative...
Sheela Kolphan
|
Sheela watches them remove the red cloaked Tengu. "I have much to learn about Tien honor... and the language is very... free flow."
Sheela renews her casting of message on the party.
"I wasn't sure if they were friend or foe, but I'll try put them to sleep. This whole 'honorable fighting' thing isn't my style. Sounds like something brother Sigurd would waste time on."
When the tengu return, Sheela moves back to the pillar she was at originally and waits for the rest of the party.
"No hard feelings, alright?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
Yorad Cinderhunter
|
Yorad nods in reply to Sheela, though his voice is uncertain. "Ummm...sure, whatever works for you." He then returns to his previous position and again readies for combat.
I am not sure where Yorad was before, so I approximated his position on the map here.
| GM Hmm |
___
Blue bows to Sheela. "How can there be hard feelings where you are involved? You are the most gracious being that I have ever perceived, and you saved my comrade."
The monks bow and the combat begins!
Initiative, Corona: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
Initiative, Mort: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
Initiative, Princess: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

ORDER: Yorad, Corona, Sophia, Sheela, Monks, Mort, Princess
Yorad, Corona, Sophia and Sheela are up!
Sheela Kolphan

"Oh, you flatter me!" Sheela blushes. "Good luck to you and your friend!"
Sheela begins casting sleep.
Sleep is a 1 round spell. Sheela can be interrupted during casting.
Corona Merrion
|
Wow, you guys were busy while I was asleep! Good show, everyone! :D
"That was really nice of you to help the birdmen out, New Friends," Corona whispers. Since her armor tended to slow her down, she'd opted to hold her position while some of the others tended to the injured tengu.
After a moment, she suddenly blinks.
"Oh! Are we starting again? I'm sorry, my mind was wandering!" she gasps as she hurries to try and maneuver herself around Green.
New initiatives and new combat? Powerless Prophecy! :D Oh...by the way, is Bless still active, GM?
| GM Hmm |
Green Will Save, Stare: 1d20 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (11) + 3 - 2 = 12
If the tengu had jaws, they'd be slack. Bless is still active, as is the Charm Person. Sheela begins a full round of sleep. Corona maneuvers herself around the dazed Green.
Yorad is up!

"Oh, now I get it!" Tiffany looks at the tengu as if she had just solved the meaning of life. "They wanted a fair fight. Okay. Right. I told you so, like, come on guys, I knew it all along!"

She has to earn her Princess moniker somehow :)

Yorad listens to the beautiful woman behind him muttering some arcane words and briefly fantasizes those were words of passion. Shrugging off those pleasant thoughts for the moment he watches the tengu closely and slips into a ready stance.
Ready action to strike at any enemy moving to attack Sheela.
dagger: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Crit?: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
Crit damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Mort Gloomhollow
|
Mort watches with curiosity as the tengu pause combat to carry off their companion after scrambling to stop his bleeding. "Well, that's a change of pace, good to know we may get the same treatment!" Once things start back up he moves down and around to flank the inattentive green bird with Corona's longspear, doing his best to leave him as he left the red bird. "Wow.. good thing that other guy stepped into the last swing..."
Greatsword + Bless + Power Attack + Flank: 1d20 + 5 + 1 - 1 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 5 + 1 - 1 + 2 = 112d6 + 6 + 3 ⇒ (5, 2) + 6 + 3 = 16
| GM Hmm |
Green is dazed, and Blue comes forward, not to attack Sheela, but to go after Tiffany.
Blue Sword Trip: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
He tries a fancy maneuver to trip the Grippli, but misses!
Then Mort's power attack goes off against the dazed and still flatfooted Green, and he cuts the Tengu monk down.
Green Stabilize?: 1d20 - 7 ⇒ (1) - 7 = -6
Blue bows. "If you save my brother, I can finish this fight and not waste your time. Are you ready?"
ORDER: Yorad, Corona, Sophia, Sheela, Monks, Mort, Princess

"Good job, Corona!" Sheela completes channeling magic, and casts sleep upon Blue.
Sleep is a DC 17 Will Save.
Sheela draws her mace. "May the best fighter win. It's probably you."
Move Action: Draw a weapon
Standard Action: Ready a Laughing Touch if Blue is within melee range. If it hits he can only do a move action next round.
Laughing Touch, Bless: 1d20 + 0 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 0 + 1 = 16
| GM Hmm |
Corona stabilizes Green, and then Sophia and Tiffany pack a double-whammy! The gentle Blue-robed monk goes down.
Blue Stabilize: 1d20 - 6 ⇒ (19) - 6 = 13
He crumples, but is not bleeding out. By the time Sheela's sleep spell manifests, all her targets are gone.
I'm sorry, Sheela, but you lose the spell unless you want to target someone else fighting in the arena just for flavor? You could aim the spell at a monster targeting another anonymous Pathfinder team in the arena. Or look for someone from one of the groups you saw in the bar.
In the next round... From the trap doors erupt two evil-looking animated masks! The masks show the faces of horned fiends, their eyes popping and their leering smiles full of fangs. They cackle as they see you with a high-pitched and creepy laugh. "Heh-heh-heh-heh-heh! Meet your doooooooooom!!"
They are flying towards you, and should reach you in two rounds. You can use these rounds to do whatever you like.
If you wish to move towards them, I'll need perception checks. You've already noticed this place is full of trap doors, so if you can make a DC 5, you can travel without hitting any of the ones you've noticed so far.
What do you do?
