That's weird, the post wasn't showing up.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

The orc succumbs to Avendryl's magic, but the hobgoblin resists it.

Kaduk, Kwin, Valynie and Marius (in any order) to go.

Male Human Fighter 1

Marius jumps on the hobgoblin and strikes.
move: move to K19
Stand: attack hobgoblin with combat expertise (AC 21)
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 51d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Telekinetic Fist at the hobgoblin.

Ranged touch attack to hit 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Damage 1d4 ⇒ 3

Female Elf Clerc 2

Valynie moves to F18

Not feeling to to his usual gung-ho self, Kaduk shifts behind Marius. He loads a bullet and whirls it to the nearest hobgoblin.

5ft step to I19
Move: Draw sling
Standard: Attack L19
Can't see Marius's Initiative. May need to -4 on range attack rolls if he closes in first

To hit:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Damage: 1d4 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + 4 + (4) = 10 SA added

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

The hobgoblin looks concerned as he is buffeted by Kwin's magic, and as he sees his orc comrade fall as diverse weapons bouncing off his armor. He takes a swing at Marius and then backs off to M19, barking a command to the kobolds, who join the fray (at L18 and L19), ineffectually poking at Marius.

Your turn (all of you).

Regarding initiatives, generally I resolve actions in the order they are posted regardless of initiative. But in the event of a conflict I will allow you to take advantage of the most advantageous order, in this case letting Marius delay until Kaduk has fired. I find that this makes the game run smoother.

Male Human Fighter 1

Marius waits for his companions to fire on the hobgoblin and then closes ranks while swinging his sword.
Delay initiative until companions make ranged attacks.
Take 5' step to hobgoblina and attack with combat expertise
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 201d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Character Sheet High Elf Order of Scribes Wizard 6 | HP 21/32 | AC 13 (16 - Mage Armor) | Initiative +3 | Passive Perception 14| Saves: Str -1, Dex +3, Con +1, Int +7, Wis +4, Cha +0 | Conditions: None | Spell Slots: 1st - 3/4, 2nd - 1/3, 3rd - 2/3

Avendryl steps forward, drawing his blade, then slashes at one of the kobolds

5ft step to K18, attacking kobold in L18

Attack:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
Damage:1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9

Seeing the hobgoblin step back, Kaduk reloads his sling and attempts to score a hit.

Standard: Attack to hit hobgoblin 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

Female Elf Clerc 2

Kill the hobgoblin for Calistria's sake not the kobolds slaves !!

Firing at the hobgoblin
1d20 - 2 ⇒ (15) - 2 = 131d8 ⇒ 2

Aiming high over the others, Gideon shoots at the kobolds in the back of the hallway.

[Ooc]Shortbow: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 - 4 = 10
--> Damage 1d6 ⇒ 6

CG M Elf Cleric 5 | AC 16 (18w/shield) | Init: +3 | HP 14/38 | 1st 1/4, 2nd 1/3 3rd 1/2 Ch 1/1 | HD 5/1d8 | PasPer 17 |

Kwin readies his crossbow and holds back, waiting for a clear target.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

The hobgoblin and kobolds all go down to your assault. Suddenly all is quiet except for the orc snoring.

The hobgoblin carries a masterwork battleaxe and you manage to pilfer 10 gp and 20 sp off them. And you get 89 xp each.

Now what?

Well, so much for sparing the kobolds. Anyone bring any rope? Notices Gideon carrying some. Tell you what Doc, tie the orc up and you can pick his brain to death.

Gideon proceeds to tie the orc up fairly well, despite his lack of experience tying people up. "I'm afraid I don't speak Orcish, so I'll have some trouble communicating unless he happens to speak Draconic. Can one of you translate?"

Female Elf Clerc 2

Her face thunderous , Valynie has a short sarcastic laugh
What a pity , kobolds speak draconic . And since they were slaves, they would have been easier to interrogate than an orc warrior ..."

Allow me to translate Doc, what d'you want to ask?
Turning to Valynie.
It's not fair to assume the kobolds were slaves, hmm? Maybe they were lowest in pecking order hence just the same as being in league with the orcs. We'll clear that up one up after we get sleepy-head here talking.

Male Human Fighter 1

Marius looks to the battleaxe, "This seems nice. I think I could use it unless someone else minds."
added to inventory. unless someone else can use it.
"Well, try to get something out of it. I'll keep watch."

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

The orc wakes up shortly, gruntingly conveying a mood of distinct unhappiness. What do you want to ask him?

CG M Elf Cleric 5 | AC 16 (18w/shield) | Init: +3 | HP 14/38 | 1st 1/4, 2nd 1/3 3rd 1/2 Ch 1/1 | HD 5/1d8 | PasPer 17 |

While the others are questioning the orc, Kwin will take 20 to start searching for additional secret doors. He won't go more than 30' from the rest of the party in doing so.

Kaduk will wait for Gideon to fire away, acting as translator.

Meanwhile, putting on a fearsome gesture he questions;

Orcish:

Tell me more about this place, if you know what's good for you!

Intimidate: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14 Circumstantial bonus for helplessness?

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Orc:

Spoiler:
The orc isn't terribly cooperative. He only mutters something about Rovagug having you for breakfast and that there are several more of them and that they have a temple nearby where he's looking forward for them ripping out your beating hearts and having them for breakfast.

Kwin finds no other secret doors in the corridor, but there are a few normal doors. Do you want to try one of them? You can interrogate the orc further later (or we can simply assume that you did and timewarp).

He says there's an temple nearby dedicated to Rovagug nearby, and they serve adventurer's hearts for breakfast. Yes, I'd like some of that.

Turning back to the orc, unmistakenly with all the gestures and growling, the question is WHERE?

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

The orc nods towards the door to the left of the one opposite the secret door.

Gideon noticeably pales at the mention of heart-eating. "I suppose we wont receive much cooperation from such a vulgar creature. Shall we incarcerate him for the authorities?"

Female Elf Clerc 2

Valynie can't help smiling
'Dr Davenport , I'm going to admit something difficult for me. Being an orc should not be an automatic death sentence . I can conceptualize that an orc might be a useful citizen of a civilized country... "
A little pause there
'It might also happen that we will all become godlike today . sorry the image just came to me .... So I know I must NOT shoot all orcs on sight. Sigh "

" Now being a follower of the destroyer IS an instant death penalty in any country . Now why do you want to bother with dragging this
sorry specimen of life to town ? We are adults there and do not have to make an executioner do our job .

I'm a bit too squeamish to hit someone tied up like this. If you're going to do anything I'll rather not look.

L O O T.

Female Elf Clerc 2

If you aggree to my course of action , be aware that saying 'I was not there' is an mental evasion. There are no bystanders in this kind of dilemn

CG M Elf Cleric 5 | AC 16 (18w/shield) | Init: +3 | HP 14/38 | 1st 1/4, 2nd 1/3 3rd 1/2 Ch 1/1 | HD 5/1d8 | PasPer 17 |

Kwin shrugs and walks up to the orc. If no one stops him, he will say You are an admitted follower of Rovagug and expressed participation in harm toward civilized folks. It is time to meet your god for whatever the beast has in store for you.

Coup de grace with his battle axe. 30 damage. If he survives, DC 40 fort save or be slain.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Yup, that's one dead orc. Where do you want to go next?

Male Human Fighter 1

Marius chews his bottom lip, "I suppose that nothing else could have been done. Shall we try the secret door?"

I'd rather see what the temple is all about. Especially one dedicated to Rovagug.

CG M Elf Cleric 5 | AC 16 (18w/shield) | Init: +3 | HP 14/38 | 1st 1/4, 2nd 1/3 3rd 1/2 Ch 1/1 | HD 5/1d8 | PasPer 17 |

I suspect the temple is bound to be heavily guarded. But I'm game if everyone else is. But if we are going to do that, we should move quickly.

Sorry, did I miss some text? I thought the only secret door we knew of was the one we came into?

Female Elf Clerc 2

If we go in the temple , we'll need to be at full strength
How are you spellwise ?

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Yes, the secret door is the one you entered through. There are three doors to unexplored areas, one of which the orc indicated as leading to the temple.

CG M Elf Cleric 5 | AC 16 (18w/shield) | Init: +3 | HP 14/38 | 1st 1/4, 2nd 1/3 3rd 1/2 Ch 1/1 | HD 5/1d8 | PasPer 17 |

My arcane armor is in effect now. Otherwise, I am nearly at my full arcane arsenal, such as it is.

Character Sheet High Elf Order of Scribes Wizard 6 | HP 21/32 | AC 13 (16 - Mage Armor) | Initiative +3 | Passive Perception 14| Saves: Str -1, Dex +3, Con +1, Int +7, Wis +4, Cha +0 | Conditions: None | Spell Slots: 1st - 3/4, 2nd - 1/3, 3rd - 2/3

"While not at my fullest capabilities, I have more than enough to move on."

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

I'll take that as a yes.

As you gingerly open the door you hear a distant sound of howling, scraping, and ripping that fades in and out.

The room is roughly rectangular (30 times 50 feet), with long alcoves stretching away to the left and right. To the left it ends in a door, which is the only visible exit. There is nobody here.

The walls of this oddly-shaped temple are partially covered in tattered red and black curtains. You can see an archway leading south despite it being half-covered by one of these curtains. The vaulted ceiling above is painted black. Spattered bloodstains cover the floor, particularly around the plain stone altar resting in front of the deep eastern recess. The place stinks of murder and pain, as well as the musk of some angry beast.

You feel a sense of rage welling up inside yourselves. You can rage like a barbarian, if you like, while in this room.

Knowledge (religion) 16:

Spoiler:
Doing so, however, equals paying obeisance to Rovagug, which is not a very nice thing to do if you are good-aligned.

Female Elf Clerc 2

Knowledge religion 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9

Male Human Fighter 1

Marius moves into the room infront of everyone else. "I don't feel entirely comfortable in here. Let's check it quickly and be gone."

Previously
I'm still feeling black and blue from the last scrape, but I'll manage.
Current
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
This feeling..is uniquely odd, like knocking people's teeth out in a barfight.

CG M Elf Cleric 5 | AC 16 (18w/shield) | Init: +3 | HP 14/38 | 1st 1/4, 2nd 1/3 3rd 1/2 Ch 1/1 | HD 5/1d8 | PasPer 17 |

I'm glad we didn't encounter anyone in here. I can't imagine the ferocity we would have seen...

Perception 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16

Let's check this place out quickly, and move on. Unless... Does anyone know what we would have to do to desecrate this place? I'm not an overly religious type, but I would love to see this place stripped of its power.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

A quick look behind the curtains reveals extremely faded painted images of cavorting fey creatures in a silvery woodland on the walls themselves, testimony that this wasn't always an evil temple. It looks like something may have been painted over in the ceiling too.

Other than that, you find nothing of particular interest. The room is lit by braziers and the altar is nothing but a worn stone slab.

Well, not much chance for loot here, lets try the other rooms.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Sorry, did you want to try the door from the temple or one of the other doors in the corridor?

CG M Elf Cleric 5 | AC 16 (18w/shield) | Init: +3 | HP 14/38 | 1st 1/4, 2nd 1/3 3rd 1/2 Ch 1/1 | HD 5/1d8 | PasPer 17 |

Let's go back to the hall and check the other doors there. I don't like the idea of leaving unknowns behind us in case some sort of alarm ends up being raised. We want to try and keep our path of fall back clear.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Behind the door near the throne there is a rectangular room with four dishevelled beds. Under one of them there is a locked box, which the key you took from the orc fits. It contains a variety of mostly worthless items such as clothing, a brush, paper, chalk, and so on, as well as a set of masterwork thieves' tools, a healer's kit, and a 50 gp yellow agate wrapped in an old rag.

Apart from that there is nothing of interest in the room, and no visible exits.

Male Human Fighter 1

Marius comments, "Well, shall we try the other way?"
