"I believe that's what we agreed on."

"Let's go and investigate the set of bronze doors, shall we? Doors are meant to be opened," Kaduk says.

Kaduk will advance to the doors in stealth mode, he will take suggestions from the companions if they are strongly agaist it.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

The doors are locked, but the lock doesn't look very complex. There seems to be a room at the end of the right passage, but you see no enemies so far.

Perception1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10 Ears glued to the door, Kaduk tries to discern any sound within. He hand signals to Kwin; {mind if i open the door?}

Gideon tucks his journal away and pulls his bow back out. He whispers loudly to Kaduk, "Open it!"

*Nods* *Thumbs up*

Kwin nods to Kaduk, though he has a "far away" look in his eyes as he does so.

Still ready with the Feather Fall if Kaduk needs it.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

The door swings open, revealing an old library, mostly in ruins. The room is 30 feet square and filled with broken shelves and rotting books. There are no visible exits.

Sorry guys, I will need to take a break. I am leaving for New York today and will be back in a week. Game resumes next Sunday.

"Much ado 'bout nothing, heh. Cover the door whilst I search the room,"

Takes 20, Perception=24

Better safe than impaled or bludgeoned.

Kwin lets Kaduk take the lead into the room, but follows to stay within range.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

In the library, Kaduk finds a number of intact books. They are of some small value and could probably be sold for around 50 gp, but they are rather bulky to carry. One that looks interesting is called Glarias's Pool and seems to describe the pool in the room.

Kaduk also finds a secret door on the left wall of the main room. A wall sconce causes part of the wall to pivot when pulled.

Welcome back!

Gideon rushes to the books. He is profoundly interested in the types of books that can be found in this place, because of both their inherent value and their relevance as to who may have been here last. He pages through Glarias's Pool first, while cataloging the others in his journal before putting them in his pack.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

It appears that the pool has divinatory powers. Speaking a magical phrase will summon a manifestation of Glarias to answer any one question. The book warns that punishment will come to those who abuse the magic of the pool, though.

Gideon grows nearly giddy with excitement as he reads this. He turns to the others. "This is almost too good to be true! A simple command word will allow us to ask any question of a goddess of lore! If no one objects, I would like to pose a question as to the overall size of this delve."

"Hold on a second Doc..isn't it more profitable to ask a question with an answer some one is willing to pay for?"

Nice to have you back

"I don't suppose I have a problem with that, Gideon. Kaduk, I suspect we will find plenty of wealth within the delve, better to get information that could be of use to us as opposed to something to sell."

"Ok, ok. Well, I just hope we don't waste it," Kaduk says, resigned.

From your readings, can anyone use it to ask a question, or does it take someone with divine or arcane training to do so?

Anyone can use the pool, as long as they speak the correct phrase.

I understand your excitement about this find, truly I do. However, perhaps you should wait a day or so before making your ask. Perhaps some time to ponder will may you reconsider your choice of question. Not that I think the question is a poor one; quite the contrary. But I see little reason to rush.

Marius nods at Kwin, "I agree with Kwin. Better to wait and use such a treasure when we know what to ask. Shall we try the hidden door?"

"Hidden door? Where?"

Right here.

And referenced here.

"Oh! Forgot 'bout that," Kaduk replies sheepishly.

Kaduk advances to the hidden door and searches for traps.

Takes 10, for 14.

If there's nothing, he hand waves Marius to advance and opens the door

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Kaduk finds no trap.

Beyond the door, there is a narrow (10 feet) passage, 30 feet long, that ends at the back of what is obviously another secret door.

"We should press on. Let's see what's on the other side."

Kaduk moves towards the end and examines the door before opening it.

Ready! Let's do it!

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Kaduk hears nothing through the door and sees no obvious traps, so he simply pushes it open.

I'll give you a hint what's behind it: Roll for initiatives! And if you can give me some idea of marching order, I'll get a map up tomorrow (which is in about 8 hours here).

Initiative 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20

Gideon peers over the shoulders of the others, safely behind them.

CG M Elf Cleric 5 | AC 16 (18w/shield) | Init: +3 | HP 14/38 | 1st 1/4, 2nd 1/3 3rd 1/2 Ch 1/1 | HD 5/1d8 | PasPer 17 |

Initiative 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12

I believe Gideon and Kwin are in the second row, Kaduk and Marius in the first row. Avendryl and Janus taking up the rear guard?

Male Human Fighter 1

init:1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Marius moves out front of his companions. "Let's see where this goes."

Character Sheet High Elf Order of Scribes Wizard 6 | HP 21/32 | AC 13 (16 - Mage Armor) | Initiative +3 | Passive Perception 14| Saves: Str -1, Dex +3, Con +1, Int +7, Wis +4, Cha +0 | Conditions: None | Spell Slots: 1st - 3/4, 2nd - 1/3, 3rd - 2/3

Must be the earwax.
*Grips his greataxe tighter, reassured with its heft and solidarity*

Kwin Avassar wrote:

I believe that's right.

Initiative: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Sorry about the delay. Crazy busy day.

A tattered and stained red carpet runs most of the length of this long hall. Moth-eaten tapestries of mounted knights and hilltop castles hang on the wall. At the far eastern end stands a large wooden throne surrounded by empty kegs and dirty wooden plates and mugs.

As you enter the room, you hear guttural laughs and shouts to your right. A surprisingly handsome orc is seated on the throne and surrounded with his goons: a bugbear, another orc and a savage Tharbrian.

As you enter he cries out in Orc:

Spoiler:
Who dares to intrude on my domain?

They keep their hands on their weapons, but they are not attacking... yet. Their initiative is 20, so Kaduk still has the chance of sneak attacking, if that is what you want.

Map

Male Human Fighter 1

"Anyone get that?"

"Akur adarah mhautmu, Kaduk Jaskar!"

Orcish:
I am your death, Kaduk Jaskar!

Kaduk shouts a challenge and closes in, great-axe aloft and savagely brings down the weapon on the nearest orc.

So that puts the order at:

Kaduk 25
Opponents 20
Gideon 20
Kwin 12
Marius 9
Avendryl 5

Is Janos still with us?

@Kwin, he's still active on the other forums

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Kaduk speaks the truth as he barges in with a blood-curling scream and chops down the orc in one mighty blow. Impressive. You actually struck him dead, not just unconscious.

The orc and bugbear retaliate but he manages to fend off their blows. The female barbarian tumbles past Kaduk and lets out a roar of fury.

Your turn (including Kaduk). Map updated above.

Where is that barbarian going off to?

Thrilled by the results of his dynamic entry, Kaduk becomes all too aware of being attacked by both sides. A series of agile movements sees Kaduk breaking off to engage the barbarian by the door. A leaping jump and an overhead chop tries to whittle the opponent to two.

"He just wants introductions, Marius." quips Kaduk as he passes by.

Silver Crusade

I apologize guys, I haven't been able to do much in the last week or two. We are gearing up for deployment early and I have had very little time off, even to check the boards much less respond. I think that this trend is going to get even worse, so I must regretably drop out. I was really looking forward to this game, too. Again, I'm sorry.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

OK, sorry to see you go, Janos, but these things happen. As for the rest of you, feel free to post. I normally don't really bother with your initiatives relative to each other (on the assumption that you are going to be working as a team anyway, but I feel it would be unfair to the rest of you to let Kaduk have all the fun, so if any of you wants to have a go at the barbarian I'll let him redirect his attack. I hope that is clear.

Janos wanders off into the sunset, leaving you to face the monsters alone.

Been waiting on the monsters, since they're listed ahead of me on the Initiative chart.

Knowledge: Local 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13

Gideon runs through his mental library. He has never seen an orc up close, so he is shocked at their size. He stammers out, "Orcs are incredibly resilient! Do not let your guard down!"

Everyone gets +1 to attacks, AC, and saves vs. orcs. Round 2/5.

Male Human Fighter 1

Marius steps up and swings his sword.
attack closest orc with long sword and combat expertise; bonus from Gideon. AC goes to 21(ff17/t14) +1 vs orcs.1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 231d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
possible crit1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 161d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

Kaduk looks around amidst the fighting. "Where's the cleric?" Noticing he's gone, Kaduk reminds himself to be more careful from now on. Seeing Marius rush pass to cover his flank brings a gush of relief for Kaduk.

If Marius is stepping up to the orc then great! M18, Marius?

Good luck on your deployment Janos.

Kwin will cast Mage Armor on himself and step into the room if he can do so without drawing an AoO. He'll make sure he's out of any ally's way.

Avendryl moves into the room, expending another use of his Arcane pool and strikes at the bugbear.
