Dinaeri, Keeper of Peace |
Hey guys and welcome to Midland!
For all discussion relating to the campaign, please use this thread. If anyone would like to set up a google document page to make encounters easier when determining position on the battlefield, please do and I can give you the relevant information at each point.
As you level up, I'd also like you to post your progression in here (skills, spells, feats, class abilities etc - the normal stuff you get from leveling up) just so I can stay on top of things better and make sure everything fits in.
The gameplay thread should be up by next wednesday at the latest, but keep an eye on the campaign in case it goes up sooner.
I've put a lot of work into this and will continue to do so until you hopefully manage to complete it. The story is mostly driven from your characters (rather than focusing on the best one, I've focused on you as a group instead, which is why I've been adding to most of your stories, though for those of you who have had little changed to your stories, I've got a lot more going on behind the scenes) backgrounds and ambitions.
The campaign itself mostly consists of Humans (the most common enemy), Monstrous Humanoids and Aberrations, with little outside of that other than wildlife you find in the natural world.
Level 10 is the maximum level I'm wishing to accomplish with this, though with the way I'm running this, with or without magical equipment, you'll be incredibly strong and able fighters by this point.
Aside from that, I hope you all enjoy the campaign!
Dinaeri, Keeper of Peace |
This will likely change at some point in the future, but the only person who will be able to see Erin right now is Rodrick. This could be interesting for roleplay aspects and allows you to roleplay being able to see her as the campaign goes on. :)
Dinaeri, Keeper of Peace |
Stories I've completed:
Sebastian (needed very little changing)
Jura (has a lot added to it)
Rodrick (has a lot added to it)
Izsha (needed no work)
As soon as I've got and edited Erin's I'll start on the intro.
Of note, I love all of the characters so far, so I'm hoping everyone's in it for the long haul. I'd like for the campaign to finish within 6-12 months, but this depends on what happens and posting frequencies.
It may be open, but I've also got it a little on rails for story purposes and I'll be able to influence everything through narration. :)
Rodrick Vandal |
This will likely change at some point in the future, but the only person who will be able to see Erin right now is Rodrick. This could be interesting for roleplay aspects and allows you to roleplay being able to see her as the campaign goes on. :)
Can others hear her?
Erin the Cursed |
Looking forward to playing with all of you =^^=
Dinaeri, Keeper of Peace |
If it's easier I'll pm you when it's all up, but I still need Erin to give me her backstory before I can even start on the campaign.
Erin the Cursed |
I have to appologise for the delay. The GM will have my info in the next 10min
Sebastian Vorell |
So ... do we have to ignore all input from Erin? As previously stated I don't know anything about Berserk so I don't know the character it could be based off. I don't want to seem like the douch who ignores people though.
Erin the Cursed |
Info sent =^^=
Ignore her! if you want, will make your life entertaining, and hers as well ;)
Dinaeri, Keeper of Peace |
Just received Erin's backstory so I'll be editing that tonight and putting the start of the story together between now and Wednesday, keeping true to my initial announcement. :)
Don't worry about dotting the gameplay thread when it's up. Your first actual post will do that anyway.
Seb - Humans usually have no contact with the astral plane and so cannot see things of mythology or folklore even if they do exist, so it's more following the law of the universe than a specific character. It doesn't mean you won't ever be able to see such things, though. It's just that at the minute you can't. :)
Erin the Cursed |
Its just so we can have it in our actives games. The dotting in gameplay
Dinaeri, Keeper of Peace |
Yea, I know, but the first post I put in there is straight to the story, so with your reply it'll dot regardless. It's just to not have five messages of dots after the initial post. :)
Dinaeri, Keeper of Peace |
Okay all, I've just finished Erin's story, so I'll be starting on the actual campaign tomorrow.
You won't know each other at all to begin with. At most, you may recognise or may have heard of family names, but all of this information is in the modified backstories I've given you, so only you know these ties and subtle links individually. :)
Dinaeri, Keeper of Peace |
Not gonna lie - I'm pretty excited about this. Everything is linked perfectly. Loving the first post, Jura! :D
Dinaeri, Keeper of Peace |
I could roll intimidate here but I don't think it's necessary. The point has been made and I'll leave the intimidate checks to you guys, saving the ones my end more for actual combat, roleplaying everything else to keep it more cinematic. :)
Thanks Izsha! The idea is to form a closely knit group between you all. It'll make the whole story just that much sweeter.
Dinaeri, Keeper of Peace |
Bedtime for me. It'll give the others time to post between my next response! :)
Dinaeri, Keeper of Peace |
Erin - Put your message back to how it was, haha!
I broke my message up into two segments after I saw you had posted moments after mine. :)
Dinaeri, Keeper of Peace |
Big post!
Any thoughts/feedback yet or are you all pretty happy with how things are going so far?
Erin the Cursed |
Ditto. Inn/Bar scene =^^=

Yea, that's it. Setting things in place. :)
If any of you ever feel left out, feel free to mention here, but the way I run it is under the assumption that anything you want to interact with, you'll post about and then I can take it from there. So although Rodrick for example is just doing his own thing at the back, quietly right now, he has the option to get up and talk with anyone in the Inn, leave or whatever. I'm just trying to make it as dynamic and vivid as possible and doing a lot of research in the background.
I've spent most of the night statting up two important characters to this, but they're not for a while yet.
It's all about keeping the momentum going and finding the pacing to know when to move on really, as I don't want to cut anyone off when I move the story on etc.
Thanks though guys. I appreciate it. :)
Whatever direction you guys end up going in, I'm happy to help you fulfil that, even if it means homebrewing something, so just ask if anything springs to mind.
For the most part nobody in the entire campaign has magical gear and any money you receive will likely be used for roleplay aspects like paying for your keep or for travel, better gear (up to Masterwork) and any magical items you get will likely be through quests. I've got ideas for keeping things fun, though the low magic is pretty universal, so if you only ever manage to get Masterwork gear, that's likely the highest grade of gear anyone in the world will have, keeping fights pretty fair. Though, Apostles if and when they turn up are the exceptions to this and this is where your class abilities, levels, ability to think and work as a team come in. It's all a way off yet, though.
I can post frequently. I just don't want to go too fast for those not as frequent as I know you (Jura) and Rodrick are pretty slow at the minute. We'll see if it picks up, but if not, the game would have found its balance by then. :)
Dinaeri, Keeper of Peace |
And as I cannot stress this enough, if you can think of ways to help your survival by interacting with your environment, I'll run with it, regardless of rules. You've become a high level Sorcerer and want to blow up a tree to topple it, crushing a bridge on the way down full of people? Cool, roll your attack and if it's good enough, the tree will fall and the bridge will snap.
I'm going for cinematic over anything else, while still keeping the basic mechanics in place. :)
Sebastian Vorell |
Figured I should try and help along with the comedy side of it. Seb is serious but I just couldn't pass this chance up, plus it makes it more enjoyable to Erin too.
Can animals see and hear Erin? I only ask because of my companion.
Erin the Cursed |
If you enjoy it. So will she. No fun in messing with folks and no one enjoys themselves....
And i think your companion can see her. If i read correctly. Children. Animals. And SOME adults can see the fey

That would make for some more interesting gameplay when my companion starts playing or reacting to something that Sebastian can't see. I think he may end up thinking he is going crazy, that or birds can see spirits.
I am only going with the spirit line as someone mentioned hauntings earlier in the gameplay thread.
Erin the Cursed |
By all means =^^=

I would have said Dogs more than anything can, but tbh most animals more in tune with nature probably could. I'll have a think on this one to see what I want to do with it.
Just about to read and get my next post typed. :)
Erin the Cursed |
This is quite enjoyable. And people can see whats shes like.
These two are bonding without either of them actually knowing it =^^=

Erin the Cursed |
Hey atm. Nothing for us to interact with otherwise =^^=

Dinaeri, Keeper of Peace |
Well, other than the whole middle table situation or Rodrick, Jura and Izsha.
You've got a whole Inn to in...or shall I say Inn...teract with right now. ;)
Anything anyone wants to do, I'll respond to, though I think most are happy to just talk and enjoy their evening right now.

Am I the only one who currently cannot browse the messageboards normally, but has to go through their own browser history to find each individual thread?
Whenever i try to go to the main page or any prticular subforum, it always drops me on the storefront.

Sorry I went quiet all of a sudden, I have come down with a sickness bug, chest infection AND suffering from fatigue. I haven't been able to word my posts properly and didn't want to lower the level of the game.
Dinaeri, Keeper of Peace |
No problem. :)
I know it's slow at the minute but the story is mainly with these guys in the middle of the table right now. It's just setting the scene and path for what's to come.
Dinaeri, Keeper of Peace |
Everyone - Which would you prefer; Roll20 or Google Docs for battles? I've not used the latter but can't imagine it's too hard to work with.
