Baldwin the Merciful's: Razor Coast (Inactive)

Game Master baldwin the merciful

The Razor Coast has drawn men to madness and slaughter since the world was young. Tulita natives, born from the same fire as this jagged coast, claim the Razor existed long before the world’s other lands. It is a crucible of flame cooled by the ocean’s caress and its mountains, reefs, and lightless depths teem with as many terrors as lustrous spoils. The Razor bucks the trappings of civilization in much the same manner the storm-tossed sea spurns the men who dare mount her. This is no place for the weak-willed. Untested souls are food for its storms, its fickle gods, its ancient spirits, and the evil predations of unfathomable creatures. No less dangerous are the men who make the coast their home and whose dark desires put most horrors to shame.

"Alright. You heard the captain. Get up there," Darius says with a nod towards the foredeck. Once there, he finds some free rope and binds them securely before returning to the rest of the "new crew."

At Hawkin's compliment he says, "Was nothing really. Mostly had to improvise."

Seeing everyone fawning over the black haired beauty, Darius decides to give her some space, but does not care to appreciate her feminine form from a distance. As Astrianna passes him to go below, he says, "Where you going, songbird? The party is up here."

Feel free to just pass by, Astrianna. Just being cordial. ;)

David nods.

”Well anyhow – point is, it was nice work,” he says with a nod, then pauses to study the man's weapon.

”It’s a beauty,” he adds as he looks at it carefully.

”You brace that thing against some cheap basterd trying to charge across a plank at you and he’d likely impale himself on it,” he says with a quick bark of laughter and moves past to the others, pausing to offer a snack to Adriel’s familiar, clearly enjoying the small animal.

As he waits to see if the beast will snack on the meat or not, he is startled by the presence of Astrianna sweeping by.

Astrianna Sparacello wrote:
"Keep it up. You're doing a fantastic job feeding that lizard." The woman moves off below deck nonchalantly.

David watches her move off with a neutral expression and shrugs.

"Um… I guess," he says with a low voice.

He looks over at Embrianna and notices that she’s wounded a little.

"So you sure you're alright, then?" he asks her.

Embrianna wrote:

"Hmm? Me? Oh, I was. I've seen to it already. I don't usually like to make a big deal of it or anything, but I do have a small healing spell or two I can cast when needed. It wasn't a very deep wound anyway, the man just barely grazed me here on my arm."

Embrianna holds up her arm for inspection. Though there is still a bit of blood on it, the wound itself appears to have been healed.

His eyes widen.

"Damn! Here - let me take a look that, if you don't mind..." he says with a calm voice.

He takes her arm tenderly in his hands and slides the cloth up gently and pulls out a small cloth which he had steeped in boiling water earlier that day and dabs it softly as his fingers grip her arm gently, his eyes raising to look into hers.

"That doesn't sting, does it, lass?" he says to her as he studies her carefully.

Oh, but you, your skills were a beautiful swath of death- a painter that left a menagerie of crimson streaks on the deck. Keep everyone safe up there." As Dirk begins to tend to the arm, a small hissing noise comes from under Embrianna's hair. What looked like some sort of necklace appears to begin moving as a small snake that had been laying coiled around her neck appears to be deciding whether or not this strange man has permission to touch her mistress.

Embrianna doesn't seem to notice the hissing as she watches Dirk take her arm. "It doesn't sting nearly as much as it did when I got it. It really should be fine now."

Examining the place where the blood seemed thickest he observes that the wound had been sealed over. A cursory examination suggests that the healing was accelerated on a rate inconsistent with mundane means. His mind tacks back to her comments earlier below deck about a knowledge of healing and he wonders absently if she is a priestess.

The pieces fit – her wound’s likely healed with divine magic…

He looks at her intently, studying her eyes, his hand still resting gently on her arm.

”Whoa! Is that a snake around your neck? I thought that was an ankh…” he says with surprise.

”Say, you’re not from Osirion, are you?” he says studying her, then shakes his head as if dismissing the thought.

Nah – you’re too fair of skin, he muses softly to himself you look maybe northern…

He looks up at her.

”Don’t mean to be so forward… so… what exactly is that?” he asks her about the serpent, changing the subject to where she came from to something less personal - like what exactly the snake may be.

Embrianna: I believe *I* was the first to use both the Songbird amd Rose nicknames.

The elf sheathes his blade and sets about helping to bind the prisoners, saying no more other than to bow to the Songbird before she leaves. He had done enough boasting today.

To the inquisitive ranger, He is my familiar but I would not call him tame.

The little dino shrieks and snatches the food from the man's grasp, swallows it, then hisses. Simple bribery would not be enough to earn his friendship.

Thrasher. Not very imaginative I know but when we first bonded I tried so many names and this was the only one he responds to. He's pridedful and aggressive and attacks pretty much anyone I'm fighting. I HAD bonded with him thinking an airborne spy to be useful but he prefers to be more direct and we haven't yet bonded enough for proper instruction

It would not do to erode his reputation with the men by not sharing the workload.

Since you made the roll, I'm not gonna make you strain over info. Darius isn't really trying to keep his past a secret, he just doesn't like talking about it.

Realizing that Hawkins was not going to give up on a simple hinting, Darius sighed and comtinued, "I suppose you want more than a cliffhanger. Fair enough. My full name is Darius Rotarion. My family has some minuscule influence in Egorian, having backed House Thrune and cashing in some favors. I realized I was in line for next to nothing of an inheritance, and since I didn't get along well with my old man, I set out to make my fortune as an adventurer."

He reaches into his pack and pulls out a mug, running his finger over the brim and mutters, "Wine." The cup quickly fills with sweet red wine with a strong bouquet of raspberries.

"First band I signed on with were little more than thugs. They worked as bounty hunters, but were quite 'liberal' in who they felt matched their quarries description and often demanded payment for their trouble from their victims, claiming it was their fault they wasted the group's time. I made good coin, and as long as we didn't have Hellknights on our asses, I could care less. But it wasn't the life I was after."

He takes a long sip from his cup and then continues, "So when my contract was up, I took my coin purse and gear, and formed up a group of equally eager souls and headed out after a ruin we had heard of in the Barrowood. The damn druids there claimed we were intruding on their land. Which was complete b%~%$!##, if I might say. We were well south of where their enclave was marked on our map. But they attacked us. Whittled us down one by one. I was the only one to make it out of that cursed forest alive, and even then I had a boar chasing me down. If it weren't for my trusty glaive here, my bones would be decoration on one of those tribal prick's armor, I'm sure of it."

He takes another drink and concludes, "So I made my way to Westcrown, got black out drunk, and woke up press ganged into service aboard the Moon Reaver. Again, it wasn't the most luxurious of work the Captain performed, but I took to sailing like a fish to water, and since then, I knew that it was the life for me."

Total shots in the dark on actual DC's of the following, Baldwin feel free to adjust...

Knowledge (Nobility) DC 10:
House Rotarion is a minor family that earned it's nobility via supplying arms and armor to the supporters of House Thrune.

Knowledge (Local) DC 15:
The Moon Reaver is a freelance ship, basically acting as a pirate frigate, occasionally working directly for the Chelaxian navy. However, the captain, Vincent Blackhand, was a cruel and heartless Captain who cared little about anything but lining his coffers with coin.

”But I kind of wanted to do right by him, so I spent time studying medicine. I figured that no matter where you go, people always need someone to help if they’ve been banged up and all…”

”After a while I ended up serving a year or so with a privateer out of Varisia – he did some smuggling for a bit, small crew but good people… that’s where I met that Halfling priest I was telling you about earlier.”

”Well it was good work, but at one point they decided that they were going to do a run from Varisia down to Thuvia and I wasn’t too keen on heading that far east, so we parted ways at Cheliax."

"Work was kind of slow for a bit, so I ended up signing on with some Halfling freedom fighters; freedom fighters need their share of medics, too… Maybe more than others... Well, anyhow, I learned a bit of trapping and the like in the hills when we were doing some raids on Imperial slave caravans."

"Work was good for a while, and I felt like I was kind of making a difference, you know? Busting up slave caravans and freeing people from some basterd slave master sure beat the piss out of smuggling contraband out of Rahadoum up into Varisia…” he adds tapping the ash of the gunwale.

”Well, one thing led to another and the gang broke up as the Imp’s were getting too close, and we all kind of split up and went separate ways. I headed south to the coast and, well… now you know the rest of the story,” he adds with a grin.

He looks at her thoughtfully.

Darius gladly takes the offered smoke, finishing off his wine and returning the mug to his pack before starting to puff on it. He smokes in silence as he listens to the others talk.

Off to bed.

David watches him smoke and nods pleasantly at the man.

"Remind me later to show you what I took of them marines after I fixed up their wounds and all..." he says casually.

"I'm not much of an expert on heraldry and all that, but maybe you'll see some gear on them that's worthwhile?" he adds as he blows a stream of smoke into the distance.

The Capt listens to Sawbones and nods. "Clean and bind the wounds, if it's not life threatening let 'em sleep it off." He looks around for Henk. "Two rations of rum for all...give three to the wounded to help 'em sleep."

M H, NPC Villian with the RedKnives

The crew is uplifted when Henk announces the rum rations for the evening. it is eagerly accepted by those that have sailed with the Captain. After another hour of sailing, the passengers are permitted to mingle on the main deck. Noticeably they are not provided rum rations.

Between the time the ship started to run and the present the passengers have gotten themselves settled, this was not immediately noticeable when you first began getting chased.

David nods at the captain's orders.

"Aye, sir - it will be done," he says.

Okay - now I have to get to work for real - I am curious to know what specifically was on the marines when I searched them earlier via the Perception Check (if anything, other then the obvious weapons and armor). I won't keep it a secret from the officers if they ask, but I also don't plan on announcing it, as for now I'm figuring it's just found loot. But if it's anything of note I will share with anyone who asks me.

See you all later!

Adriel continues to help where he may, accepting a combination of awe and respect from those sailor's who'd put together that he was a Bladedancer. He knew nothing about sailing but knew respect was more easily given if you LIKE someone. So he helped carry things here, cast a Prestigiation there and allowed the curious to feed his familiar, making sure to warn them about watching their fingers.

Evil GM

Astri starts to look around the lower decks she scans the faces and notices mostly wealthy merchants but there are a couple nobles on your initial scan.

Astri:

Lower Deck:

You see a patriarch of the Cemaine family, a lesser noble, that is fiercely loyal to the Julistarc family, who firmly entrenched with the Drovenge. His entourage

There also distant relative Mayor Arvanxi. She was a bit eclectic if you recall correctly.

There are several armed guards, including a spellcaster that taken up residence and guarding several cabins on the lower deck. Every other passager is giving wide birth to those room.

You need to keep snooping the hold to notice other nobility.

I'm working may way through the posts, I'll get to it. i've only read a couple posts so far. :-)

Gathering the gear form the dead and captured marines reveal the following items:

14 studded leather
14 msw short swords
14 daggers
7 light cross bows, 10 bolts each
7 throwing axes
14 CLW
2 Jump potions

231 GP, 297 SP, 390 CP

3 - diamond chips (17 GP each)
1 - pink pearl (50 gp)

Dirk initially spend time healing and binding wounds, several of the crew of Mother's Blessing are already fast at work gathering loot and stripping the men down. By the time, Dirk begins to search, it's pretty obvious that these "ordinary" merchants have system down. This makes sense any of you, but the non-sailors in the group, everyone has a job on ship and they have protocol. You do find that this lightly armored caravel crew handled themselves well against the navy.

(Everyone can make a sense motive check for hunch)

After the rum rations are poured some of the passengers make theri way to the main deck.

Darius make Knowledge nobility add +2

Everyone, other than Astri I've did her initial nobility check, can make knowledge nobility check.

Anyone with a knowledge local can make that check in addition.

Don't have nobility or local trained so I will just skip the checks

Embrianna will help Dirk follow the Captian's orders to tend to the wounded and assist in them getting their rations of rum.

"Well, this voyage has started off interesting. I wonder if things will quiet down as we sail farther out from Cheliax?"

When Adriel begins to cast prestigiation on teh splattered blood stains you earn a few slaps on the back. "Y'handy after a fight too!" The crew enjoy their rum but go about swabbing decks mending lines, working sails, and basically doing the necessary work on a ship. They seem rather annoyed when passengers walk interfere with their work, but they hold their tongues.

The sailor that slaps your back says to elf, "It w's darin', but the pays worth it on this one, y'goin' be pleaz'd, course Thrune ain't gonna be happy wit the result of th't fight".

Dont have the actual skill, so basically that's a pure Intelligence check with the bonus.

sense motive results DC 17 and higher:

You know this is not normal merchant crew, they've seen battle even though their ship has limited weapons. They are being paid well for what they are doing...the crew's share will be bountiful.

sense motive DC 20 +:

You figure these are privateers and they took a great risk fighting a navy vessel. Something precious or high paying is aboard. This ship is going to have a large bounty on it soon enough.

You know you caught that boarding party off guard, they had no casters and only limited troops to board. They were chasing something but not expecting the fierce battle.

Sense Motive? What pay is he inferring: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Adriel is not quite sure if there is anymore to the man's statement, but is no friend of Thrune so doesn't really care. EVERYBODY had an alterior motive.

He smiles evilly at the sailor, Thrune does not hold dominion out here friend, if that ship REALLY had any infernal backing they wouldn't have ran. The hardend crew of this ship are made of better stuff and more cunning by far

After things on the sip have calmed down and all the wounded have been tended to, Embrianna will ask for a moment of the Captain's time as he is walking about. "Excuse me sir, but I don't believe any of us have had a chance yet to ask about bunking arrangements for the voyage. This ship seems a mite crowded and I was wondering if it was a "just throw your blanket wherever you can" type of situation."

Astri:

Arvanxi is the family name. Her name first name is Marci.

She looks up at you, not recognizing you at all, her eyes are puffy form crying. She is clearly upset. "Ruined...ruined that's what we are...he was always so..." She trials off.

When you mention the guards she shakes her head, apparently caught up in her own drama.

The captain is coming off the aft deck and at his cabin door on the main deck when Bri approaches. He has a stub of cigar in his mouth mostly chewed and without ember. 'Well bunking is problamatic...shift sleeping in crews quarters over there he points to door under the foredeck. Course the open air does hurt if it doesn't rain." he looks up to see if there are storm clouds. "Lots of passengers below."

He smiles, "Gather Eyes, Sawbones and those that came on board with you. Come to my cabin in 4 hours." He begins to open the door to his cabin.

Embrianna will nod and thank the cabin as she takes her leave. She will go around, hunting down all those that came aboard with her, repeating what the Captain said. Though it may take a while to track down Astri, Bri manages to do so before the 4 hours are up.

As Embrianna approaches the elf as he looks out over the water, he sweeps again into one of his trademark bows.

Ahh, My Rose has sought me out already, yet too soon for a discussion about stars. Has someone slighted you already my love? For surely he will lose the offending hand before the sun sets! Unless the considerable talents I witnessed earlier where more than up to the task. Or are you here to discuss something different? You simply WILLED your enemies to sleep in that fight, didn't you? You and I are more alike than you think. We are both more than our spells yes?

I am off to bed. I'll spoiler my reaction to her response later. Of course Adriel attends the meeting

"The captain's cabin is a bit risky, my dearest Embrianna, but I'm not one to turn down a challenge," Darius replies, adding a wink to his jest before chuckling and adding, "I'll be there. I was wondering exactly when the captain would get around to handing out proper assignments."

Mother's Blessing

Most of you don't know this:

I've added a few commoners, guards, and the noble guards on the map. the yellow is are the noble guards, the white is the spellcaster. they are clearly guarding a few cabins. there are many more people on the ship than what I've placed on the map. No need to over clutter the view.

Although two armed men, clearly not crew come to main deck for fresh air. They are milling around, not socializing but not stand-offish.

The actual crew of Mother's Blessing is actually cordial, they "seem" to get along from what you perceive and they are loyal to captain.
