Baldwin the Merciful's: Razor Coast (Inactive)

Game Master baldwin the merciful

The Razor Coast has drawn men to madness and slaughter since the world was young. Tulita natives, born from the same fire as this jagged coast, claim the Razor existed long before the world’s other lands. It is a crucible of flame cooled by the ocean’s caress and its mountains, reefs, and lightless depths teem with as many terrors as lustrous spoils. The Razor bucks the trappings of civilization in much the same manner the storm-tossed sea spurns the men who dare mount her. This is no place for the weak-willed. Untested souls are food for its storms, its fickle gods, its ancient spirits, and the evil predations of unfathomable creatures. No less dangerous are the men who make the coast their home and whose dark desires put most horrors to shame.

Crap! Okay then I'm going to have to hold off on my Round 5 action (since I think that the white marines go before I do anyway) and just stick with the sword attack helping the ladies and Adriel.

Since the Marines in White go After my Round 4 action (via their Round 5 Action) but before my Round 5 Action, their placement probably would be much different on the map considering that I moved back in any case.

So yeah - Round 4's action would have been as posted: I'd move back to help Brianna and Astrianna as well as Adriel via the attack with Flanking. Then the yellow marines would go for the remainder of Round 4, then some of my allies would go in Round 5 - then the White Marines would go in Round 5 - then I'd be able to take my Round 5 action (which probably would be the Grease Spell, but I won't know that until the White Marines via Round 5 formally act.

Sorry - I'm still getting used to this type of Initiative Order and Combat style. Don't worry, I'll get there soon (I hope).

So you are in A2, wonderful. Buff's Running: SHIELD +4AC

The elf is so gladdend for the ally's blade harassing the enemy in B3, for it (hopefully) would let him land a telling blow.

As his Familair continues to harass that square.
DC10 aid another: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14

He falls into SPELL COMBAT, weaving his blade as he calls upon his ARCANE POOL to empower his weapon. Swift Action
Then darting around the incoming blades he completes the Gestures to his RIME FROSTBITE spell and attempts to deliver the touch attack with his blade.

Flanking, Aid another, Inspired, Rime Frostbite: 1d20 + 4 + 2 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 4 + 2 + 2 + 1 = 23
Damage, Str, enhance, inspired: 1d6 + 2 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 2 + 1 + 1 = 8
Non Leathal COLD from spell: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Intimidate Check from ENFORCER: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8

Then he draws his blade back in a wild spinning Arc and attempts to strike the other fool in C3.

Aid another, Inspired, Rime Frostbite: 1d20 + 4 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 4 + 2 + 1 = 15
Damage, Str, enhance, inspired: 1d6 + 2 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 2 + 1 + 1 = 8
Non Leathal COLD from spell: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Intimidate Check from ENFORCER: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11

His hits carry a cold Bite as the scimitar becomes a blue glow in his hand, carrying arcane power along the already wicked edge.
You two feel it's sting? Feel it sap your speed?

If either target is hit they are FATIGUED until they recover from the non-lethal damage, and if the Intimidate check passes they are also SHAKEN. the Rime metamagic feat means they are also entangled. This means
Shaken= -2 to attack, saves, skill checks
Fatigued= -2STR/DEX, in effect -1 to attack/damage/AC
Entangled= Move at 1/2 speed, -2Attack, -4Dex (-2 AC).
So the total Debuff they have to suck is -5 to attack, -3AC, -2Saves, -1 to damage.
That's only IF the demoralize check succeeds.

demoralize:
You can use this skill to cause an opponent to become shaken for a number of rounds. The DC of this check is equal to 10 + the target's Hit Dice + the target's Wisdom modifier. If you are successful, the target is shaken for 1 round. This duration increases by 1 round for every 5 by which you beat the DC. You can only threaten an opponent in this way if they are within 30 feet and can clearly see and hear you. Using demoralize on the same creature only extends the duration; it does not create a stronger fear condition.

I rarely recon actions. You can see how fast the pace gets, to go back and redo actions is a nightmare. So, what happens if the player posts before his action and the battlefield changes. I work the action in the best that I can. For instance if the flanked marine was down before Adriel acted I would have shifted the move to the a nearby enemy. If it involved a move action I would have dropped his last attack.

If it's a small 5ft step fudge to make it all work I do that. So if you need a small step t see around the enemy or the post, that's fine.

I'll adjust a bonus if it no longer applies, for some reason. Another thing that I rarely do, if I miss adding a flank bonus or some damage against the PCs, I rarely go back after-the-fact and tell you to add it in. Again, things happen too fast to split hairs. Besides I'm not trying to kill players.

Perhaps the most significant thing that happens is this: if a player doesn't post and game's moving and I've updated maps and summaries, I don't go back in time and add the player's action where it normally occurs in the initiative order. I post it when it's made. Otherwise, I have to go back and recreate actions/maps and potentially recon other actions.

By way of example:

Say the this is the init order:

Darius - stepped up missed
Astrianna -
Marines, Wht - stepped into Astri and hits for 10 Hp
Adriel - killed on man, missed the other
Dirk - grease then moved
Sath -
Embrianna -
Marines, yellow

The actions above occurred. If Astri would log on and post an action I slide that in right after Dirk for this round. Astri action may have been to move out of harms way and the marine that hit her. She can move after Dirk when she posted. The hit will still stand.

This may seem unfair but the key element is to keep the game moving. One hit or actions rarely tips the scale of the game. You will see that I'm always asking for HP updates that is because I don't keep pounding on one PC to kill them, I subtly shift the attacks unless the player has done something to get himself away from the group.

Quite often I will not move an enemy if it it significantly impacts a player's posted action. This isn't always the case but it is generally the norm.

One thing that you will notice, I have not added Bri's last sleep yet. Two reasons, she's towards the end of the round and I apply it closer to her turn. If all the enemies are down by the time its actually her turn, she save the hex/spell/resource.

The general theme is I work the posted action to fit the scenario.

I updated the Campaign Tab, Combat spoiler with this information for easy reference.

Astrianna gives the two sailors she healed a good slap on the shoulder, putting her wand and canteen away. She moves off the foredeck to make room for the captured sailors, making a mental note to have a little chat with them later. While everyone is distracted...

Arrow retrieval: 1d2 ⇒ 1

Emerald eyes scan the deck, and she plucks one of her undamaged arrows from the mast as she passes by. The half-elf seems to ignore everyone else and heads below deck, stowing her bow and quivers in the process.

She walks into the hold and slows, impressed that this many people can fit in such a small space. The woman throws her hood back and starts to slowly work her way through the crowd, looking for anyone that has an entourage, seems out of place, or is related to Chelixian nobility.

As David gives the captain his prognoses and helps the sailor gets comfortable he stands up and moves down the stairs to the midship and examines the wounded marines thoughtfully, patting them down and searching them for any hidden goods or gear.

He looks up at Sath.

”You handled yourself well, lad,” he says with a friendly tone and claps Sath on his arm and moves forward to the others.

Glancing to the port side he nods at Darius.

”Nice move with the blade,” he says with a nod, and heads over to Adriel and the others on the foredeck.

Pausing, he looks at the elf with a studied eye.

”You’re a magus, then?” he says with a cocked head, the statement more rhetorical then anything.

”I’ve seen them in a fight before… good to know,” he says almost to himself with a slow nod.

His eyes light up with real interest as they flick to the little familiar.

”What’s your name, boss?” he says to the reptile and fishes out a small piece of jerky and holds it out to him.

”Does he like dried beef?” he says, glancing to Adriel as he continues to hold out the piece of jerky for the reptile.

He looks up at Astriana and Embrianna.

”So… how are you two doing? You both alright?” he says to them as he continues to hold the meat for the young reptile.

He pauses as he watches Astrianna move off below decks.

"Okay..." he says slowly.

"Well... how are you doing?" he says to Embrianna directly, then clears his throat a little.

"I mean... you're not wounded are you?" he adds.

Ha! I actually laughed at that. No offense Dirk, woman has a mission.

Astrianna gives a dismissive gesture at Dirk as she walks across the deck. "I'm great! Good work out there, uh... Hawkins, yes. Keep it up. You're doing a fantastic job feeding that lizard." The woman moves off below deck nonchalantly.

"Hmm? Me? Oh, I was. I've seen to it already. I don't usually like to make a big deal of it or anything, but I do have a small healing spell or two I can cast when needed. It wasn't a very deep wound anyway, the man just barely grazed me here on my arm."

Embrianna holds up her arm for inspection. Though there is still a bit of blood on it, the wound itself appears to have been healed.

Embrianna has other types of missions in mind Astrianno ;)
