Taking a deep breath, she exhales slowly and stands up straight, nearly retching as the ship heaves suddenly. Grabbing on to a post she sways for a moment, and gains control. Boots are lazily tied on before she moves to the officer's mess to retrieve her belongings.
You walk in on a medical examination, Dirk is checking out a female who is in a coughing fit. Your gear is across the room between where you are and the examination. Meaning you have enter, walk across the room, get your stuff, walk back out of the room.

Astrianna Sparacello |

Astrianna walks past Sawbones as he inspects the coughing woman. She nods at him, retrieving her gear before walking out. "Keep up the good work, Hawkins." Utters from her, which amuses the half-elf. She believes she'll make that her catch phrase when interacting with him from now on.

Bloody great spell, that one. If you all like I can use it to dry us all off once we are back on the boat.
That reminds me... Astrianna takes a moment to wave at her coffee, casting Prestidigitation to give it a hint of mint flavor. A grin crosses her face as she drinks the brew. Where would this world be without magic?
The bard brews a cup for the cookie, making a point to stay on his good side. She filters out one more batch of brew, but fills her canteen with it this time to save it for later on. Using Prestidigitation to clean up the coffee maker and the surrounding area, she puts everything back into her pack.
Whipping out her old stage kit (disguise kit), she puts on a light touch of makeup using a small hand mirror to appear slightly less hung over. She applies some dark eyeshadow a well, figuring she would likely be on deck and its simply another way to cut down the glare from the sun.

As David moves the woman into the cabin he overhears Astrianna's comment.
He looks at her briefly, gauging if she is being sincere, or if she is being sarcastic.
Sense Motive Via Astrianna's Intention -

If Astrianna is making light of a sick woman in his care, it will seriously effect how he he reacts to her in the future.
EDIT: Meh - never mind. I guess for now he's going to assume that Astrianna is being sincere.

Darius Rotarion |

Darius spends the morning working the rigging and sails, enjoying the wind in his hair and the sun on his back. He took a long, strong breath of salty air, finally feeling safe for the first time in days.
That was, at least, until the call of masts on the horizon went out. Damnit! I hope that's not more pursuit. They won't be asking questions first this time if it is!
He did the best he could to help their ship maintain and/or gain speed from the rigging, looking down on the others working on scraping the sides. While not appearing to do anything, Adriel was managing to do a very good job at it. He smirks as he thinks to himself, Damn mage.
At the first mates order, he replies, "Yes sir!" and scurries up to the Nest as ordered. He didn't mind of course, it was a very peaceful job, though important. As such, as he caught his breath, he made sure to keep a watchful eye on the horizon.

She was being sincere- she's not an ass, thankfully. It just amuses her that she says that phrase to Hawkins all the time.

Well, David wouldn't know either way in game, but I'm glad to know it OOC - I've been doing some checking through notes; I have a strong sense I know what her condition is - if I'm right I may be in big trouble via fixing it.
However (if I'm right) I seem to recall a homeopathic variation on what MIGHT be able to fix it, but I suspect even my research may not matter unless I get a high enough roll. More to come, though, when I get the last details nutted out ;)

David "Dirk" Hawkins |

David examines the cloth and sees the pink color.
Gods damn!
He notes her complaints of the chest pains and dizziness as well, as the pieces fit.
Her heart’s failing, or I’m a fool!
Well, I don’t know that – but the symptoms do seem pretty consistent; especially via the mucous.
Glancing around the poorly stocked room, he damns the fact that he doesn’t have access to a fully stocked alchemist lab. However, he does what he can to keep that frustration from his face and instead works as hard as he can to keep her calm and mellow.
”Okay – so here’s what I need you to do, I need you to lay down a moment,” he says with a pleasant and friendly voice.
Right – so one of the reason’s the heart is failing is because it has to work too hard to pump the blood through the veins and that’s straining it. Now she may have a blocked vein somewhere, but either way you slice it her heart is struggling with the blood flowing through her body; that’s for sure…
If I make an incision and drain some of the blood it may take some of the strain off her heart and ease the tension, giving her heart a chance to relax a little… I hope…
He considers his options carefully.
Gods – this is a big hunch; maybe I should get a second opinion? Don’t druids know how to diagnose diseases with some sort of magic?
He glances to the door –
”Hey Sath, do you think you can come here for a moment,” he says calling out to get Sath to aid him in possibly ascertaining the condition.
David’s plan is to make a small cut in her vein and try to let some of her blood out. Yes, it’s “Bleeding” a patient – but it should (theoretically) take some of the stress of her heart if it’s working too hard.
Once the heart rate has gone down (assuming that my hunch is correct and that I’ve relieved the pressure) I’m going to make a more thorough search of her to discover where the primary blockage is by feel (again – I stress hopefully) because once she’s been drained some blood it should put less strain on her heart, but the blockage should theoretically feel like a stiff pressure under her skin. Once he discovers this place (if he can) he’ll attempt to use one of his surgeons tools to try to drain some of the plaque that may be congealing in her veins.
Again, this is all a hunch, but I’m hoping it works. If Sath can help diagnose it for sure with a spell, he’ll happily accept it.

Or dysentery. Many a family died on my Oregon Trail adventures to dysentery. Was kinda crappy...
You may be right, but I'm betting it's a heart condition - which is good news as it's not contagious.
But I may be wrong - I think one of the people in the game is playing a Druid and I'm pretty sure that they can Diagnosis the disease via the spell. I really want to be sure before I end up acting on my hunch, though, because if I'm wrong, that could be a big problem.

Sath Saltblood |

Hearing Hawkins' call for assistance, Sath scuttles back onto the deck and heads down into the infirmary but not before grabbing his haversack. Once there he asks "Hawkins, how can I assist?

He looks at the woman laying before him and brushes her hair back, hoping to keep her relaxed.
"Hi there, Mister Saltblood," he says with a friendly smile as Sath enters.
His voice drops and he speaks rapidly in Aquan -
"I understand that you're able to use some magic to aid in diagnosing medical conditions in some cases? I'm wondering if you might be able to give me a hand in diagnosing this issue? I think it's a heart condition, and I have a strategy I'd like to employ. But it's risky if I don't know what the true condition is..."

Bri and Sath see sailors luck at the bow of the hip as pod of dolphin leap, play and chase a school of mackerel. four hours of intense cleaning has the starboard side looking good at the water line. The ship needs to be dry docked or intense underwater activity to really scrub the lower hulls.

not unless you left a spell slot open. :-)
Ah - does his roll reveal if my old-fashioned diagnosis is correct? And if so; will that treatment work?
Bottom line; I'm trying to collect every single bonus that I can to this roll before I end up making it is all...

Commoner |

The lady hacking up more pinkish mucus, "M..my ch...<cough> children need me, my husband <cough cough> wasn't feelin' well. Soothe syrup is what I need." She tries to argue but lays back on the table. her fever spike and her breath is wheezing.
Pretty cool hunch...you may earn that nickname Sawbones after all.

Thanks! Meantime, is there anything else I can do to boost my Heal check before I try my remedy for this condition?

Another sailor get you as you crawl back over the rail. "Sawbones is calling you." he points towards the officer's mess hall.

Astrianna Sparacello |

Finished with her morning preparations, Astrianna seeks out Malta- the brute is likely not hard to find. "Mornin', Malta. The captain was never specific in my duties when I joined the crew yesterday. Does he have any particular jobs for me that you know of, or should I speak to him myself?"
She does intend to work for her pay, but she hopes it's more along her talents and doesn't involve any barnacles or buckets of soap.

[dice= Heal]1d20+9+2 for healing kit
Sath's eyes widen as he looks a the pink tinge on the cloth and listens to her symptoms. She is clammy and pale. He rapidly shakes his head.
It's definitely not a heart condition. You suspect she has tuberculosis. You are concerned with the possibility of an epidemic since it is spread through coughing, sneezing, and it's airborne.

David "Dirk" Hawkins |

Sath - when I end up doing my thing, are you up for an Aid Check for the Healing Remedy as seen above?
Also, do you have any orisons/spells that can boost a roll, like Bless or something?

Capt Willie Longplank, NPC |

"Aye...let me know if anything changes."

David "Dirk" Hawkins |

Dirk and Sath and knowledge nature may help...perhaps a small boost for herbal remedies. Make check
GM – but wouldn’t pink phlegm in a TB condition be indicative of a pulmonary edema which is typically indicative of something like failure of the heart (specifically the left ventricle in most cases)? In which case the heart may be weakening due to overwork due to damaged lungs. Of course, if that's the case, then for now I’ll have her sit up a bit and ease the tension in her breathing (laying flat when you can't breathe is kind of like crucifixion).
On the down side, if it IS TB then I’d need to probably treated with antibodies (which I don’t have; though maybe I can jurry-rig something) but on the plus side, even with it in an enclosed area it takes roughly on average, eight hours a day for six months before we are formally infected, or 24 hours a day for two months working or living with her to become infected. So we have some time – though her family may be in trouble (it depends on when they contracted it, of course)…
Knowledge; Nature
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
EDIT: Well, that sucked. Sath?

Darius Rotarion |

As he keeps watch from the Nest, he spots Astrianna walking the deck casually. The thought crossed his mind to let out a whistle to get her attention, but he figured it would be mistaken as a warning and get him in trouble. Rather, he waited and, should she ever look up in his direction, he will offer her a friendly wave and a smile.

Astrianna Sparacello |

Oh sweet mercy, if she has consumption and the sailors find out, her and her family may very well be screwed.
Astrianna beams as she is complimented on her performance, soaking it up like a sponge that never appears to saturate. She accepts the compliments with various practiced platitudes "Oh thank you! I've been singing my whole life." "You're gracious- thank you for listening." "Oh what do men know? Everyone has a beautiful part of themselves." et cetera, changing her response to play to the interests of who she is talking to- aristocrats, commoners, or crew, but she is always deeply grateful for their praise.
She chats with them throughout the morning, getting to know their names, stories, destinations, dreams, and really anything else she can get them to talk about while always steering the conversation away from herself. It's quite possible that most people who speak to her will end up telling her everything about themselves and leave knowing nothing to little about her unless they pose direct questions.
-On deck, Astrianna notices Darius and gives him a wave while she is looking for Malta. It's strange seeing a noble man doing routine ship work, but it's certainly a good job for a man as far as she's concerned.

David "Dirk" Hawkins |

Oh sweet mercy, if she has consumption and the sailors find out, her and her family may very well be screwed.
Luckily that's why we kept her behind closed doors to make our diagnosis of her obviously "mundane" condition :)

David "Dirk" Hawkins |

Hey guys, don't know where Sath is, but I need to crash! For now I’m waiting for Sath to make a Knowledge Check and (hopefully) a Heal Check to aid me in this project (or maybe I’ll be aiding him :)
Anyway, if Sath hasn’t checked in by tomorrow morning I’ll make the Heal Check before I head out to work so I don’t hold things up.
If the check fails and we have a dead lass on board I’m going to do what I can confine her from other people via “Bed Rest” at least for a day to figure out what’s up. Furthermore I want to deal with her family quick-smart; they may be further advanced in their condition then we know and even if heal the mom, there could be further issues before us to deal with via her family.
Also, as memory serves me, caravels are not that big in size, but they sure are fast - they'll probably be able to catch us given that we're laden with all the passengers we're hauling so there may be combat soon, though that's just a hunch, too.
GM: does Sath and I need to make a Fortitude Check to avoid becoming contaminated at this time, or does it take a longer time?

Adriel Mistleaf |

The cleaning task completed for now, Adriel remarks.
It would be a pretty mundane use but I may be able to research a water breathing spell so the underside could be cleaned. But honestly how much difference do the barnacles make tk our speed?

Embrianna |

"Given how loaded down the ship is, it can use all help it can give it. Not much point in researching that spell just for cleaning the hull. We can't be swimming underwater to clean the ship while she is moving this fast anyway, we'd have to wait til we got her anchored somewhere."
Embrianna looks over at Adriel and gives a little shrug. "Besides, I can already breathe underwater for a bit."

David "Dirk" Hawkins |

Alright – so Sath has the Knowledge: Nature check (which is outstanding) and I made my Knowledge: Nature check of a total of 10 (which is less outstanding). Now we get to make the actual Heal check to determine what happens with the girl (if anything) and I hope the modifiers are all in play.
That said – as I have to go to work soon and I don’t want to hold up the game, here is my Heal Check for later:
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
EDIT: Crap! Okay, well for now I'm hoping first that the Knowledge Checks might be handy, and the all independent social RP about the disease may be handy in modifying the roll, and I'm also hoping that Sath can make an Aid check to boost it and (finally) I'm hoping that if Sath gets another amazing roll, that at least my roll could be swapped to Aid HIM :)
But we shall see...

Sath Saltblood |

So we're doing a Heal check to try and come up with a mundane cure for TB? I don't have access to Cure Disease until 5th level.
Heal: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 9 + 2 = 29 Roll to aid or make the Heal check depending on which check is better :)
