Shinon |

John: I see that now, I thought he stepped up to engage with sword. Regardless, the guards X116 and X117 would move to engage Shinon. I thought I read Shinon was engaging with his sword.I didn't take off for Shinon's -4 shooting in rain or shooting through the trees (concealment) he still hit one of the guards.
I've been taking that off myself.

Fast mount is a DC20 as a free action, CRB 104. Failure means it counts as a move action.
As you approached the guard on the back on the wagon would have thrown his crossbow to the ground and place his hands up. Do you still want to attack him?
The driver of the wagon previously jumped off last round and ran.

baldwin the merciful |

Shinon missed with his shot. The guard who Shinon missed with his shot. He shakes his head and curses that he was shot at, "Honorable to attack when we were retreating? he scroffs.
The two Hellknights near Andrea flee, weaving out to the East the quickest they could move.
John from your earlier post, correct me if I'm wrong, you were only attacking if Andrea was in danger? Landing onhis feet and he scurries off.
The Balista operator throws his hands up and jumps down on the east side of the carriage and begins to run east as fast he he can move.
Acro: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
The guard at the rear of the carriage will run, if permitted.
All the guards except the one Shinon swung at will flee, if given the chance.
"Retreat, Retreat, would be the cry heard from the guards.
Kenji I know the map shows someone next to you but he was standing on top of the wagon using the ballista, but he took off running before your action. There is a second person sitting at the back of the wagon with a cross bow that he dropped and held his hand up in the air. This is the person, Duncan may have killed if he decided to attack rather than accept his surrender. Thre is a third guard on his feet at the back of the wagon but his turn was before you and he ran to the East. Hope that clears it up for you. That was a fantastic roll by the way.

HellKnight Armigers |

The only remaining Arminger is near Shinon. This is the one Shinon shot an arrow at. "Gutless masked rebel, shoot when the retreat order was given!" With that he takes a 5 foot step towards Shinon raising his heavy mace and swings it with all his might. Heavy Mace: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 241d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Hitting Shinon hard, then suddenly yelling "I surrender, I surrender." He releases his mace and raises his hands in the air.

Shinon |

Shinon blinks and lowers his bow. "You surrender?" he asks, then stares at the armiger. "Wait, you said the retreat order was given? I didn't hear anything like that. The wind is really loud right now. Not to mention I'm still a little dazed from that blow to the head you just gave me. Twice."
He places his bow on his back and steps forward, picking up the mace. "However, I will not attack a foe once that person has surrendered. I apologize for firing when the order to retreat was given. Hopefully that attack just now has sated your desire for revenge. By all means, retreat." Shinon steps back with the mace in hand (but not raised) and gestures to the caravan with his free hand.

Andrea1 |

Andrea sniffs a bit at Shinon's choice. No doubt many crocodile tears would have flowed from his eyes if he had spread your brains across the ground with that blow. Perhaps a rap across his face would properly even things out. Andrea just waves off the armiger. But if you insist, run off with your friends.

baldwin the merciful |

By my count you killed one horse on the bridge, two horse riders, and knocked one guard into tomorrow. There are two Armigers that surrended - the one in front of Shinon and the one that Duncan knocked out. The remaining guards and horseman fled. There are two riderless horses and Duncan is riding a third. There is one carriage with two horses pulling it.
You can make a Perception check if you are searching for the key the guard threw while fleeing.

Janiven |

Janiven would go to the carriage door and begin to talk to Arael. "We had to come and risk everything, if they had gotten you to the Citadel Rivad, you would have been a goner." She looks at her friend through the iron bars. She looks arounda others, "do you see keys on the wagon or nearby?

Shinon |

Shinon shakes his head. "His attack was pitiful, but deserved. As much a cheap shot as my own, even if I did miss."
Shinon smiled a bit to himself and met Andrea's eyes. "Then again, if his cowardly attack directly led to a gentle caress from a beautiful woman, perhaps I should be thanking him?" Shinon walks past Andrea with a secretive smile and begins searching the bridge for the key.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14. Add in any relevant weather penalties.

Can Shinon take 20 on this Disable Device check, since he is not threatened?
The CRB pg 86 states: "Common “take 20” skills include Disable Device (when used to open locks), Escape Artist, and Perception (when attempting to find traps)." It is one of those rules, I don't particularly agree. I don't believe individuals lucky able to luckly pick a lock, wiggle out of particular tight situation using escape artist, or able to find certain type of traps but that is what the rule states. So, yes, you can Take 20 to open the lock. Provided you have two minutes to do so.

Shinon |

Shinon examines the lock and frowns, taking careful time to adjust the lock in just the right way and picking it gently, keeping his ears open wide while he tries to listen for the click. Without tools, Shinon is forced to think outside the box, and results to using one of his precious arrows with an especially fine tip in lieu of a bobby pin or similar item. After two minutes of focused work, there is a sharp *click* and the lock falls open. Shinon pockets it for his own use later.
Taking 20 on my Disable Device check. With the -2 penalty for not having tools, that results in a 26, so the lock is beaten and added to Shinon's inventory

Duncan Redhammer |

Hrpmh. Gonna hafta trim n die me beard after that. Should be ok though since the only ones got a look at me are dead or sleepin' and most humans cannae tell one dwarf from another. Better make meself a helm to cover me face though

Arael |

Areal is chained inside the cart. His hands are stretched over his head and fastened tt the ceiling of the prison cart, stretch out. He looks battered and beaten badly. His eyes are swollen and his lip is bruised.
"T..T..Th..than...thank you. Janiven is that you? More will be back, he says weakly.
What are you doing with he three surrendered armiger?

You two. Strip down to yer leggings NOW! And do the same fer yer pal here and yer dead fellows.
Know this. We've no quarrel with ye. But think, I know yer hellknight laws surely mean a death sentence for people who attack an official convoy. Were we to stick to yer rules of engagement, I'll kill ye. But ye've asked fer mercy. Stick ta yer word of surrender an ye'll have it. Cross me, an yell die as surely as yer two fool comrades who thought them above the Hand of Vengeance. Now strip. Ye'll walk otta here, wit yer unders and yer boots. Might even catch yer smarter pals already runnin fer home.
DM, include thier armors in the treasure. Duncan and that rebel can modify thier look andmarkings later.

As the captured guardsmen strip down to and leave their armor on the ground. "Robbers too," one mutters.
Feel free to RP some interaction with Arael.
EDIT: What are you going to do with the prison wagon, the horses with it, and the armingers' horses? Andrea suggested to leave them as they will be noticeable. Is that the decision?

Shinon |

Shinon steps back from the carriage after opening it, allowing the half-elf to walk free and giving Janiven some room to open his manacles and embrace him, should she choose to.
"You are safe. That is good. We feared the worst would happen to you, though it seems we intervened just in time," Shinon says, tossing his now-useless arrow aside. "I am Shinon. It is a pleasure to meet you, Arael. Tell me, can you ride? We must make haste and get you to a safe location, so we have brought a group of horses to take us away from here."

Duncan Redhammer |

Duncan watches the Armigers leave.
Well, it was about an.hours ride out here and the wannabe knights are walking back. Let's grab ourstuff and take a wide circuit back to the city. We can easily beat them back. Probably best to ride and load the armigers horses and ride hard, with the mounts we rented coming unloaded and easy. Swap over before the gate and turn the armiger horses loose, while we trot in from a nice friendly ride. Shame not to sell em though. Letting gold just walk away...
He looks at the rescuee. Duncan, by the way.

Kenji Masada |

Feeling much better today.
I nod as Areal comes out. "Is good. We must move. Wit our actions as is, Da surbibors will rikery know Araer has friends who come rescue him. Dey be rooking for us soon as dese men get back to base. Unress we take dem prisoner. I don't want end dem, not rike dis anyways. Tis not right. So we go?" I seem very anxious to move.

Andrea1 |

Andrea helps load the horses with the armor and weapons.
Horses are much more obvious when sold I believe. Plus these may very well have the marks of the breeders the hellknights use. Far too many questions. Andrea then gets onto a horse when everyone is ready to leave.

Shinon |

Shinon quickly mounts his own horse and frowns. "As much as I hate to say it, we should probably split up for the return journey. A large group of warriors traveling on horseback is going to attract far too much attention. We all know the way back to the temple, so perhaps it would be better if we split into three or four smaller groups and headed back that way?"

Arael |

Arael looks at his rescuers and then to Larko, Gorvio and Rizzardo, when he speaks."Thank you all for coming to my aid. I fear all may have been lost had I made it to the citadel." Taking a deap breath. "I would greatly appreciate your healing magics young lady," in a non-condenscending tone.
"Has anyone seen my equipment? The last time I observed it, they were putting it up top." He points towards the coach's roof and the benches.
"There is only one main road going towards Westcrown. I think their remaining horseman road hard to warn, but the others are fearful of an attack from the back so they are probably marching in the soggy ground."
Looking at Shinon, "I agree it is dangerous to keep their horses and we should go back in separate gates, dividing ourselves. There are two main gates on the East side. Excluding the ruined North Gate leading into the ruined section of the the city.

Arael |

Arael looks around and sees the fallen arminers, grimacing at the guards. "Are they all dead? Has anyone checked for vitals looking towards Shinon, Janiven and Andrea?
Janiven doesn't meet his gaze, when she responds "I rushed to your aid, not theirs." Looking at her feet half embarrassed.

Shinon |

Shinon climbs ontop of the carriage and quickly checks for any sign of Arael's equipment, handing what he can find down to the half-elf.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22 (Penalty for weather already included)
After that, Shinon will climb back down and nod. "Very well. I'll take a small group and head for the South Gate. I know this area very well, since I've lived here all my life. Janiven, would you escort the other group back through the East Gate, please?"
Glancing at the large group of people who were all looking to work together, Shinon thinks for a moment, before saying, "Larko, come with me please. Anyone else who wants to take the scenic route, feel free to join me. John, I'd like to suggest you head with Janiven. Arael doesn't look too good, so I think the strongest of our fighters should be there to protect him in the event that we run into any trouble. No offense meant to either Duncan or Kenji, of course. That's just my thinking though, if you'd rather come with us, feel free."
