He completely ignores what you actually said. You get the impression that none of these guys is too bright.

They scatter, and run off in three different directions, one up the road and one to either side of it.

After climbing at least a hundred feet into the hills, the snowy trail finally levels off. In a clearing among the trees, a large wooden lodge overlooks a ravine spanned by a long rope bridge. Smoke rises from the lodge’s two snow-covered chimneys, and large woodpile is stacked against the outer wall. A small outbuilding stands east of the lodge, and a stone well nearly blanketed by snow is barely recognizable to the north. Several tracks lead southwest toward a detached stable.

You do know one little tidbit about this place though, it's called the High Sentinel Lodge, and is the home of a Ranger Corps known as...the High Sentinels.
Pretty common knowledge around these parts.

Chloe moves closer to the door. As she gets closer she can catch a good glimpse of the layout of the place, with the main building directly ahead, what appears to be an outhouse to the east, a stable on the south side, and a bridge leading away on the other side.
Chloe approaches the door, and knocks.
There is a short pause and then the shuffling of feet as someone approaches the door.
You notice one of the curtains flick open as if someone briefly peeked out the window at the same time.
"Uhhh...who is it?" a gruff voice asks, sounding slightly puzzled.
I added the lodge and surrounds to the Roll20 map if you wanna take a look. I put of the Fog o' War on the inside since you haven't seen in there yet.
