Aak
|
I could feel the key, pulling me towards the northwest. That must be what I feel. I will be happy to go there, how are the others doing, Grishnodnok? Are the well, will they trust me even though I had disappeared, the last statement he lets out a low grunt.
I look forward to helping cleanse the temple once more, is the guardian still around?
Mal'c
Looking puzzled.
"What key do you mean Aak? To northwest would lead to the open sea. The cavern is do the northeast. Grishnodnok and most of his tribe were slaughtered. After your capture there was no brokering peace of any kind. Even Durra met her end trying to tend the injured. A group of villagers torched her home after she fell asleep exhausted tending the wounded. Little safety can be found beyond these grounds."
Enix chimes in.
"What the monk says is true. Even within the port the cultists hold much influence. Seimez, the man I mentioned that you might all work with, has managed to over come their influence for now. Though I'm afraid without help he may not be able to keep the cultists from taking over the port."
Mal'c
Assuming the group agrees, the following happens.
Smiling hopefully.
"Then let us prepare. We'll leave in the morning. We have some provisions so please let me know what you might need. Looking toward Aak. And I have some things you might wish to see."
Please level your characters to four. Also, prior to traveling to the cavern Mal'c guides the group to a hidden pool that is sacred to the order of monks Mal'c comes from. You may seen details here and in the post that comes after. Everyone other than Aak may drink from the pool. Mal'c will offer anyone interested training as detailed in the posts.
Rheynold Iron Sprocket
Still trying to figure out exactly why he has agreed to come this far when there is seemingly no direct impact here on his people, Iron Sprocket contemplates to himself, only picking up some of what his new companions have to say. Though the speak of treasures located in a temple piques his interest.
"If there are religious relics located in this temple, they may be able to help us in rallying people against the cult, however, we should probably be quick about it, we don't know when public support of this Seimez character will fall."
He then turns to Mal'c, sceptical that drinking from this pool might not work on people of his kind.
"How does this pool awaken energy exactly? I'm not sure my goddess would approve of all measures."
Bluff: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
How is this body holding up above ground. Are there any noticeable differences? I'll try to get the level up done ASAP.
Aak
|
Aak chuckles at Rheynold's inquiry, Fear not my friend, I too had similar questions about the chi. By god, of battle, has not deemed me unworthy. I, nor Mal'c, would ever intentionally cause your goddess to lose favor in your ways or methods of combating evil. But I do appreciate you risking yourself for others, especially those who have no connection to you.
Aak, extend his hand, and give a firm forearm shake to Rheynold, then sits down and meditates himself to find a balance.

Healing Chakra (Chakra)
The character can channel ki to heal herself of physical abuse and damage.
Prerequisites: Con 13, Wis 13.
Benefit: To use this feat, you must expend your ki focus. Each point of ki expended heals 3 hit points, up to your current maximum hit points.
You gain one point of ki. (You can meditate to become ki focused. Meditating is a full-round action that provokes attacks of opportunity. You remain ki focused until you expend your focus, become unconscious, or go to sleep (or enter a meditative trance, in cases such as elves.)
GM Lareg
I'm not sure if the note in the other thread is in gameplay or discussion, but you may bump any stat as long as it does not go over 18. So looks like Dex is out. Sorry, should have made that more explicit.
GM Lareg
At the break of morning Mal'c rouses everyone. With the sun just beginning to peak over the horizon, you make your way back toward the overgrown path. As everyone reaches the road Enix pauses.
"I hope you are able to recover as much as you can before the cultists get into the treasure troves. I must return to the port and see what I can do to support Seimez. I will return to the temple grounds periodically to see how you have fared." With that the half-elf gives a brisk wave and heads back in the direction you met him. The blackened drake flies to follow him, but turns around quickly - as if remembering something.
"Pagella, I will return to the twilight to get her soon. She will be safe in the temple grounds and should be there before you return."
The journey to the cavern is nearly two days walk. Daytime is uneventful, but the PCs will need to arrange a watch at night. Mal'c suggest seeking shelter a bit off the road among the thick of trees. Rema remains at the temple grounds with Peter while Mal'c accompanies the PCs.
Rheynold Iron Sprocket
I can take any watch required.
Iron Sprocket doesn't have to sleep and has darkvision so ideally he'd be perfect for an entire night's watch, but he isn't telling the PCs that. Sorry guys :P
Mal'c
Nodding.
"Then it is set. Get some rest. We leave early at daybreak. We should be to the caverns near twilight tomorrow."
Perception rolls: (For watches. Please let me know if you're perception mod has changed.)
- Aak: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
- Jenya: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
- Tamayra: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
- Rheynold: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

[Flashback]
After hearing the reassuring words of Mal'c and Aak, Iron Sprocket will choose to drink from the pool. After doing so, his mind becomes sharper and he remembers things that he thought long forgotten.
+1 Intelligence
"Everything from the past seems so much... clearer. I don't know exactly how to explain it. Though, I think it best to wait for any further training, our business here appears to be time sensitive."

Fourth watch, Tamayra - who awakes Jenya.
Surprise Round: Jenya and Tamayra now acting.
Initiative:
Aak: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Jenya: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
Rheynold: 1d20 ⇒ 9
Tamayra: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14
GM Lareg
As the creature becomes visible in a small clearing within the thicket, it is clear the thing is as large as a bear.
Looks to be roughly 75 feet away. Clear shot at the moment (though still 'partial cover' technically).
Stealth rolls needed from all.
Jenya
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Surprise Round
Jenya will attempt to move closer to the owlbear while staying out of sight (Moving 15 feet towards owlbear).
GM Lareg
The creature notices everyone's movement and heads toward where the group had set up camp for the night.
Mal'c and Aak are still asleep. Tamara has movement and standard actions remaining. Jenya has a standard action remaining. Taking actions or proceed to Round One?
GM Lareg
I think that is if you're surprised. In this case it was the creature that was surprised so both Jenya and Tamayra have full rounds of actions.
GM Lareg
The creature, already heading toward the group, is caught by the shot. It charges forward, passing Jenya - heading right for Tamayra. As it charges into the clearing where camp has been set, you can see it is an amalgam of fur and feathers, this bizarre half-bear, half-owl monstrosity raises its huge, ursine claws in anger.
Round One: All PCs now acting. (Everyone is awake now. Mal'c and Aak are prone, having just awoken. The owlbear is near Jenya, fifteen feet away from the rest of the group.)
Aak
|
Ask is startled awake as the camp is ransacked through. He gets up, gathers his bearings and looks around for a target. Seeing the large furry creature, clearly hostile. He closes in on it. while he moves, he thinks about the prayer bead and uses a charge of it power.
double move...get up and move forward. Use bless bead to get as many allies as possible while moving.
Jenya
Jenya moves back to gain 20 feet of separation from the bizarre beast and carefully aims to fire at the creature's back.
Point Blank Shot with Deadly Aim on Touch and Up Close and Deadly: 1d20 + 9 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (18) + 9 + 1 - 2 = 261d8 + 1 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (6) + 1 + 4 + (3) = 14
Rheynold Iron Sprocket
Assume I prepared the same spells as the last time I prepared.
Iron Sprocket's memory crystal begins to glow as he says a small prayer. He then draws his morning star and attempts to intercept the path of the charging beast.
Standard: Cast Shield of Faith (AC now 20). Move: Move between the beast and the less armoured party members and draw morningstar.
GM Lareg
As Aak empowers his companions Rheynold runs into the path of the beast while another shot rings out, solidly hitting the beast.
Round One: Actions remaining for Tamayra.
GM Lareg
The beast lashes out with claws and teeth at Rheynold, clearly frustrated he has blocked its path to Tamayra. Its anger grows as its attacks glance harmlessly off the armor clad man.
1 claw: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12, 2nd claw: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10; bite: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10.
Round Two: All PCs now acting. (Round one actions remaining for Tamayra.)
Jenya
Jenya closes to within 20 feet of the beast. Reloads with a paper cartridge and fires again making use of Aak's blessing this time.
Shot on touch: 1d20 + 9 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (19) + 9 + 2 - 2 = 281d8 + 1 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 1 + 4 = 13
