Male Half-Orc

round 2:

will: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 201d100 ⇒ 100

Aak, shakes off whatever hypnotic pattern the strange moth had in store. He moves up next to it, and take a swing with his morningstar.

wpn: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 171d8 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 3

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

Round Two: Reynold acting.

Feel free to post Round three actions after reading the spoiler below.

Round Three:
The moth continues to attack Reynold with a series of bites and clawing. Only a single claw attack connects, but the attacks have taken their toll as he falls to the ground. bite: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14, claw 1: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22, claw 1: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12, dmg: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8. (Reynold takes 8 damage, at -1 hp, stable, and unconscious.) Round Three: All PCs acting.

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

End of round two.
In his confusion Rheynold lashes out at the moth with all his strength, but fails to connect.
Power attack: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 5 + 2 = 12

Male Half-Orc

Aak takes two more swing at the moth, before moving to help Rheynold.

1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 231d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
1d8 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

Aak's swing just catches a flapping wing.

Round Three: Jenya & Tamayra now acting.

GM:
Gloomwing HP: 14/37

Female Human Obsidian Gunner Lev 5 | HP 51/51HP | AC 18 (FF 13 Touch 15) | Init+6 | Saves (Fort+5,Reflex+8,Will+4) | Grit 3/3 | Per +11

Do we still need to make Will saves?

Jenya takes another shot

Deadly aim: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 241d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

Will saves continue, yes.

The shot catches the moth in its body. It is clearly badly wounded from the several attacks.

Round Three: Tamayra now acting.

GM:
Gloomwing HP: 7/37

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

DMPC Tamayra

Tamayra aims and fires again Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25, Dmg: 1d12 ⇒ 4. The moth flies toward Aak, biting at him aggressively. bite: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12, but fails to penetrate his armor.

Rheynold:
Fast heal leaves you at 0 hp now, though you are still unconscious.

Round Four: All PCs acting.

GM:
Gloomwing HP: 3/37

Grand Lodge

Male Half-Orc

Aak, takes two more attacks towards the eerie moth.

wpn, shield: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 111d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
crit shield?: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

1d4 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

Aak's shield bash clips the moth. It falters toward the ground, but just manages to stay aloft.

Round Four: Jenya and Tamayra now acting.

GM:
Gloomwing HP: 2/37

Female Human Obsidian Gunner Lev 5 | HP 51/51HP | AC 18 (FF 13 Touch 15) | Init+6 | Saves (Fort+5,Reflex+8,Will+4) | Grit 3/3 | Per +11

will: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 71d100 ⇒ 45

Jenya does nothing more than babble incoherently.

Male Symbiont (Human) Cleric (Ancestral Priest) 5; HP 30/30; +0 Init; +7 Perception; AC 18 (Flat 18, Touch 10); Fort +6, Ref +1, Will +8

Apparently I missed an attack, was wondering how I was downed. It's all OK now, I found it.

GM:
I thought fast healing was only when not joined? Is this body is now unuseable since it won't regenerate (as it's dead)?

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

Rheynold:
Fast healing also kicks in when joined, below 0 hp, but not dead. Basically works like automatically stabilizing and returning to 0 hp after a number of rounds equal to the negative hp.

Female Human Obsidian Walker (Ranger) 5

Pushing through the weakness, Tamayra reloads and fires again.

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
1d12 ⇒ 9

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

With one last shot from Tamayra the giant moth falls to the ground motionless.

Combat is over. We'll assume that the weakness caused by the moth's pheromones passes while once the PCs continue on the trail. The poison induced drain from the rats remains.

Female Human Obsidian Gunner Lev 5 | HP 51/51HP | AC 18 (FF 13 Touch 15) | Init+6 | Saves (Fort+5,Reflex+8,Will+4) | Grit 3/3 | Per +11

Jenya checks on Rheynokd. Is everyone else doing alright? Reynold is down.

Heal check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

Jenya isn't sure if Rheynold is ok or not.

Heal check, Aak: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19

Aak:
Rheynold is stable, but there seems to be something strange about his physical condition. You can't quite get a sense of what you're seeing without taking a closer look at him. Do you closely examine his limbs or otherwise remove his armor? It clear that rest or healing will easily revive him.

Grand Lodge

Male Half-Orc

DM:

Aak would examine him in the sense of checking vitals, looking over visible body but would not remove armor or other extreme measures unless it was vital to stabilize or "save" him.

Aak will finish off the damned moth. He will than call the others around him and Rheynold. He clutches his holy symbol, and a wave of energy washes over all.

channel 1 of 3: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 1) = 6

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

The wave of positive energy spreads through the immediate area, having the exact opposite effect Aak anticipates. Jenya and Tamayra feel the detrimental impact, but do not falter. Aak clearly is strengthened by his own actions.

Jenya and Tamayra roll WIll (DC 11) to take 3, rather than 6 points of damage.

Jenya:
With your rudimentary understanding of healing you are aware that the energy Aak is channeling must impact him differently than it impacts those from beneath the dome as he clearly intends to be helping.

Aak:
As you channel the energy you can see clearly that rather than getting stronger Rheynold becomes weaker. His body does seem to recover a bit on it's own after responding negatively to the positive energy. Soon you can tell that he is stable, but still unconscious.

Rheynold:
Aak's positive energy does 6 points of damage to you, though you immediately begin regaining hit points (1/round). You will stabilize again on your own at 0 hp.

Grand Lodge

Male Half-Orc

Aak stands, puzzled at what had just transpired. He is visibly confused about the function of his power, wondering if his God is not with him or if the current plane is altering his powers.

Hmm, well that is odd?! I wonder if our current location is affecting my abilities? I am sorry to Rheynold and anyone else negatively affected by my attempt to heal him. Since that didn't work, the best I can do is use my knowledge of basic first aid to help him. Unless anyone else has any ideas?

Female Human Obsidian Walker (Ranger) 5

Tamayra doubles over as a wave of....wrongness wracks her body, every fiber of her being in pain.

Will: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

Female Human Obsidian Gunner Lev 5 | HP 51/51HP | AC 18 (FF 13 Touch 15) | Init+6 | Saves (Fort+5,Reflex+8,Will+4) | Grit 3/3 | Per +11

will: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23

ugh... Did... Did you try to heal us?

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

The quite twilight of the strange forest remains unbroken. There seems to little danger posed by the slain moth. Nearby the stone sculpture clearly points the way forward. Rheynold remains stable, but unconscious on the ground.

Grand Lodge

Male Half-Orc

That was my intention Jenya, yes. I suggest I simply use first aid to help Rheynold

heal long term care: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

The check could be successful. However, what are the specifics for providing the long term care? Is the plan to tend Rheynold where he is?

Tamayra:
Knowledge (Nature): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24. With the attacks the idea of tending Rheynold where he is seems like a very bad idea to you. If the group could move him to some kind of shelter that would be much better than being out in this forest.

Female Human Obsidian Walker (Ranger) 5

Shaking off the nausea that came with whatever it was that Aak had done, Tamayra takes the situation into account. "We need to keep moving. Staying out in the open like this is just begging to be attacked again. If he needs extensive care, we need to find shelter"

Female Human Obsidian Gunner Lev 5 | HP 51/51HP | AC 18 (FF 13 Touch 15) | Init+6 | Saves (Fort+5,Reflex+8,Will+4) | Grit 3/3 | Per +11

Jenya nods. Whatever you did Aak.. didn't work. Let us find shelter and get Rheynold back to health

Would the whole negative affinity thing be known to Jenya or Tamayra? It seems like Rheynold might know. Would there be a Knowledge check required?

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

Using the statue as a guide, Tamayra leads the party on while Aak and Jenya manage to carry Reynold. Tamayra leads everyone first to the closest sculpture and then following it's direction to another statue. The last statue leads the group to a clearing roughly two hundred feet across, dotted with twisting cherry‐blossom trees with bioluminescent petals a pale shade of blue that shed a dim light throughout the area. Within its center stands a wooden structure. Moss‐covered, stone lanterns line the flagstone path leading to the spacious courtyard in front of the wooden structure.

Tamayra:
Survival: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18, Survival: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23.

Female Human Obsidian Gunner Lev 5 | HP 51/51HP | AC 18 (FF 13 Touch 15) | Init+6 | Saves (Fort+5,Reflex+8,Will+4) | Grit 3/3 | Per +11

Jenya volunteers to act as a scout. With cautious steps and pistol unholstered she enters the courtyard and, if she finds nothing dangerous, moves towards the wooden structure.

Perception courtyard: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
Perception structure: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

In front of the wooden structure is a large, white‐lacquered torii gate marking the courtyard’s entrance. The structure is a two‐storey lodge constructed entirely from interlocked timbers.

Jenya:
From what you can see from the outside of the structure the first floor seems empty. You're not sure if you heard footsteps on the second floor or if it's a trick of the forest.

Female Human Obsidian Gunner Lev 5 | HP 51/51HP | AC 18 (FF 13 Touch 15) | Init+6 | Saves (Fort+5,Reflex+8,Will+4) | Grit 3/3 | Per +11

I... am not sure about the building. Is the courtyard defensible enough to make a camp? she asks the other members of the group.

Think we should heal up somehow before we go inside. Do we have any healing? Aak unfortunately can't do much unless he has Inflict Wounds I guess

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

Tamayra:
The area seems safe enough for Aak to begin his long term care.

Perception rolls:
[list]

  • Aak: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
  • Jenya: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
  • Tamayra: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24

    Perception>22:
You can clearly see the shadow of a figure within the wooden structure.

  • Female Human Obsidian Gunner Lev 5 | HP 51/51HP | AC 18 (FF 13 Touch 15) | Init+6 | Saves (Fort+5,Reflex+8,Will+4) | Grit 3/3 | Per +11

There is something in that place. Jenya says indicating the building. We should take shifts guarding the area while Aak tends to Rheynold.

Female Human Obsidian Walker (Ranger) 5

"Yeah I see it too. Other than that the area seems safe enough to set up camp." Tamayra says quietly.

    Female Human Obsidian Gunner Lev 5 | HP 51/51HP | AC 18 (FF 13 Touch 15) | Init+6 | Saves (Fort+5,Reflex+8,Will+4) | Grit 3/3 | Per +11

I'll take first watch. Tamayra maybe you can take second. Then Aak can take a break for the third. Hopefully Rheynold will be conscious again by then

    Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

Longterm care takes approximately eight hours, which about fits a watch for each Jenya and Tamayra. During this time Aak can also make a roll to tend to Tamayra's STR drain from the rats. After eight hours Reynold will regain consciousness with 3+CON HP.

With protection from whatever else lurks in the forest Aak is able to successfully tend to Reynold through what could be a night. With the constant twilight it is impossible to gauge the time of day. Reynold awakes not fully recovered, but much better. Through the evening everyone remains undisturbed. There are continued glyphs of some figure or shadow within the wooden structure beyond the courtyard.

    Female Human Obsidian Gunner Lev 5 | HP 51/51HP | AC 18 (FF 13 Touch 15) | Init+6 | Saves (Fort+5,Reflex+8,Will+4) | Grit 3/3 | Per +11

We should have asked for some help with healing Jenya sighs as Rheynold stirs and wakes.

Lareg: Would the whole negative affinity thing be known to Jenya or Tamayra? It seems like Rheynold might know. Would there be a Knowledge check required?

    Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

Jenya has an a sense, but it's very basic as spoilered earlier. Rheynold will be able to fully 'think', Knowledge (religion), take 10 further details now that he's awake and partially healed. I have some spoilers liked up for Aak also as the two of them have a chance to post.

Male Symbiont (Human) Cleric (Ancestral Priest) 5; HP 30/30; +0 Init; +7 Perception; AC 18 (Flat 18, Touch 10); Fort +6, Ref +1, Will +8

Iron Sprocket awakens and looks immediately concerned.

"What happened? Where are we? What do you know?"

1 person marked this as a favorite.
    Female Human Obsidian Gunner Lev 5 | HP 51/51HP | AC 18 (FF 13 Touch 15) | Init+6 | Saves (Fort+5,Reflex+8,Will+4) | Grit 3/3 | Per +11

What do we know?... you're a strange one Rheynold. Jenya says as she crouches by him. Do you remember a moth? It attacked you pretty badly, Aak brought you back to us. Tamayra found us safety in this courtyard

    Grand Lodge

    Male Half-Orc

While attending to Rhynold and his obvious wounds. He takes a look at Tamayra's wounds and her sapped strength. heal: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26

With careful examination, he is easily able to patch her up. She may not be in full strength, but she certainly feels better than before.

Once, both Rheynold and Tamayra are cared for, Aak takes a welcome break and passes out once watch has been taken care of. He doesn't dream, or if he does he doesn't remember a damn thing about it.

    Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

Aak's attentive care of Tamayra while also tending Rheynold is greatly leaves both feeling much better while Aak is ready for mush much deserved rest. (Tamayra will be restored to full strength after 8 hours of rest, four of which can be assured to happen during watch. So if she takes the first watch and continues to sleep she'll awake with no STR penalty.)

    Female Human Obsidian Gunner Lev 5 | HP 51/51HP | AC 18 (FF 13 Touch 15) | Init+6 | Saves (Fort+5,Reflex+8,Will+4) | Grit 3/3 | Per +11

Let's continue our watch and rest up. Jenya suggests. I'll take first watch so everyone else can rest and Tamayra you can take second. Hopefully we will be good to move on after that.
