Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

The lantern immediately provides a bit of comfort as its light pushes back the darkness, revealing what seem to be wooden growths of some kind the emerge from the ground and then split into arm like structures that reach toward the sky. Among these growths you can see several paths, one upon which you stand. Examining the path it is clear that the lantern isn't reaching as far as it normally does.

Normal light out in a 30 feet cone and dim light out to 60 feet.

Perception rolls:

  • Aak: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
  • Jenya: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
  • Tamayra: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
  • Rheynold: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14

Perception>13:
You see a stone sculpture of a fox ahead near one of the intersections of the paths ahead.

Perception>19:
The sculpture seems to be pointing toward a particular path.

Aak:
The wooden growths others are looking at strangely are trees. Apparently none of them have seen a tree before.

Jenya seems dazed. Where is the ceiling? she whispers swinging the lantern upwards before, disconcerted, aiming it forward again.

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

Above seems to be a limitless open area, dark with spots of light. If there is a ceiling it is far far above where the group stands upon a path.

Male Symbiont (Human) Cleric (Ancestral Priest) 5; HP 30/30; +0 Init; +7 Perception; AC 18 (Flat 18, Touch 10); Fort +6, Ref +1, Will +8

"There doesn't appear to be one. We surely are nowhere near the dome anymore."

Iron Sprocket pauses before speaking again.

"What kinda of strange magic is able to bring us here; and now that we are here, did anyone think about how we are going to return?"

Grand Lodge

Male Half-Orc

This looks more like the world I once knew. The trees, although decrepit and well sad looking, make me feel like there is still hope. While I am unsure how we are going to return, first we must succeed or returning won't matter

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

As the portal begins to fade behind you it is clear your choice will soon be made for you.

Aak:
The spots of light above look like stars, though not the stars of any sky you remember.

Female Human Obsidian Walker (Ranger) 5

"There's a sculpture of a fox up ahead. It actually seems to be pointing to that path" Tamayra says indicating the direction the staue is oriented toward.

Female Human Obsidian Gunner Lev 5 | HP 51/51HP | AC 18 (FF 13 Touch 15) | Init+6 | Saves (Fort+5,Reflex+8,Will+4) | Grit 3/3 | Per +11

We have no other guidance. Perhaps we can send out the elementals' device in front of us to scout. Does anyone know how it works?

Female Human Obsidian Gunner Lev 5 | HP 51/51HP | AC 18 (FF 13 Touch 15) | Init+6 | Saves (Fort+5,Reflex+8,Will+4) | Grit 3/3 | Per +11

Actually reading the clockwork spy page. It doesn't seem like it's very well suited for scouting. Seems like we're just going to use it to send messages back to home base?

Female Human Obsidian Walker (Ranger) 5

"We might as well follow the path." Tamayra replies.

Male Symbiont (Human) Cleric (Ancestral Priest) 5; HP 30/30; +0 Init; +7 Perception; AC 18 (Flat 18, Touch 10); Fort +6, Ref +1, Will +8

"I can try to tinker with the device to see if I can get it to scout, but I don't believe that's its primary purpose."

Female Human Obsidian Gunner Lev 5 | HP 51/51HP | AC 18 (FF 13 Touch 15) | Init+6 | Saves (Fort+5,Reflex+8,Will+4) | Grit 3/3 | Per +11

Jenya nods. Then let us follow the path of the fox

Aak in lead, Rheynold rearguard, Jenya and Tamayra in the middle?

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

The path toward the sculpture is easy enough to follow, as is the path that the sculpture points toward. It's surprising how many other paths overlap in what seems to be a dense forest. Though the constant sense of twilight makes the walking seem endless, your feet tell you that that path isn't overly long.

Perception rolls:

  • Aak: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
  • Jenya: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
  • Tamayra: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
  • Rheynold: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

Perception>12:
You see another stone sculpture of a fox ahead near yet another intersection of the overlapping paths.

Jenya:
The sculpture seems to be pointing toward a particular path that lies ahead, much like the one Tamayra noticed earlier.

Female Human Obsidian Gunner Lev 5 | HP 51/51HP | AC 18 (FF 13 Touch 15) | Init+6 | Saves (Fort+5,Reflex+8,Will+4) | Grit 3/3 | Per +11

There is another statue pointing down another path. Jenya tells the other. I fear getting lost as we move down these crossroads. Do we have anything to mark our trail or make a map?

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

As Jenya points out the statue the sound of frantic squeaks can be heard from among the brush just off to the side of the path nearby.

GM:
hours: 1d3 ⇒ 3, Hour 1: 1d20 ⇒ 3, Hour 2: 1d20 ⇒ 14, Hour 3: 1d20 ⇒ 20, Shadow, rats: 1d4 ⇒ 4

Female Human Obsidian Gunner Lev 5 | HP 51/51HP | AC 18 (FF 13 Touch 15) | Init+6 | Saves (Fort+5,Reflex+8,Will+4) | Grit 3/3 | Per +11

Wait... did anyone else hear that? Jenya says raising her lamp and her pistol to scan the area.

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

As the light of the lantern shifts to the area of the sound, four nearly identical creatures tumble from the brush. Each appears to be a rat with rotting flesh, torn and matted fur, and reddish blazing eyes. the semi-translucent skin of each reveals discolored bones and muscles. They look to be fighting over a gnawed bit of bone. Immediately, several of the creatures take interest in the group. Two immediately charge Aak, neither penetrates his armor.

Initiative:
Aak: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Jenya: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Rheynold: 1d20 ⇒ 5
Tamayra: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16

Round One: Tamayra and Jenya now acting.

GM:
SR1Int: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20, SR2Int: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18, SR3Int: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7, SR4Int: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4, Init track: SRats 1&2, Tamayra, Jenya, SRat 3, Aak, Rheynold, & Srat4. SR1Atk: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15, SR2Atk: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

Assuming the marching order Jenya suggested, Aak in lead, Rheynold rearguard, Jenya and Tamayra in the middle.

Female Human Obsidian Gunner Lev 5 | HP 51/51HP | AC 18 (FF 13 Touch 15) | Init+6 | Saves (Fort+5,Reflex+8,Will+4) | Grit 3/3 | Per +11

Jenya quickly brings up her pistol and fires, aiming for one of the rats attacking Aak.

Point Blank Shot with Deadly Aim and Up Close and Deadly: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 241d8 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (7) + 1 + (5) = 13

Apology forget to add Deadly Aim Bonus so it should be 1d8+1+2+1d6. So final damage would be 15

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

One of the rats is pierced by the projectile, tossed back and left but a small mound of semi-tranlucent flesh and fur.

Round One Tamayra acting.

Female Human Obsidian Gunner Lev 5 | HP 51/51HP | AC 18 (FF 13 Touch 15) | Init+6 | Saves (Fort+5,Reflex+8,Will+4) | Grit 3/3 | Per +11

Jenya's move action will be to reload with a paper cartridge to end her turn Sorry forgot to put that in

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

Perceiving Tamayra's hesitation one of the remaining rats runs on to her and attacks.

Bite: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17, Dmg: 1d3 - 2 ⇒ (1) - 2 = -1 plus STR dmg: 1d2 ⇒ 2, Fort Sv: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6.

Tamayra feels a harmless nick from the creatures attack that leaves her feeling weakened.

Tamayra takes no damage, no disease, but two points of STR drain. Please calculate your carrying capacity and any associated movement penalties. Tamayra also has an attack of opportunity in addition to her round one action available.

Round One: Aak and Rheynold now acting. Tamayra actions remaining.

Grand Lodge

Male Half-Orc

Aak, steps forward and takes a swing with his morningstar at the rat.

morningstar/shield: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 221d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
damaage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 21d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

Aak's swing connects nearly dispatching the rat, while the shield misses.

Round One: Rheynold now acting. Tamayra actions remaining.

Male Symbiont (Human) Cleric (Ancestral Priest) 5; HP 30/30; +0 Init; +7 Perception; AC 18 (Flat 18, Touch 10); Fort +6, Ref +1, Will +8

Prepared Spells:
- Level 0: Guidance, Resistance, Mending, Light
- Level 1: Bless, Bless, Shield of Faith, Pendulum
- Level 2: Bull's Strength, Endure Elements (Communal), Gear Barrage

Iron Sprocket moves into a more advantageous position and takes aim at the group of rats. He holds the memory crystal that hangs around his neck in one hand and a blast of gears erupts from the other.

Casting Gear Barrage. Aim the cone at the most amount of Rats I can without hitting the party (preferably without casting in melee).

Gear Barrage: 3d4 + 3 ⇒ (2, 2, 3) + 3 = 10

Reflex Save DC 14 - Half

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

The blast of metallic fragments makes quick work of the remaining rats.

Combat is over.

Female Human Obsidian Gunner Lev 5 | HP 51/51HP | AC 18 (FF 13 Touch 15) | Init+6 | Saves (Fort+5,Reflex+8,Will+4) | Grit 3/3 | Per +11

This place is dangerous. Tamarya is hurt. What were those things?

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

Tamarya rubs at the scratches.

"I'm not sure what they are, but these scratches don't seem like much, but I sure don't feel like myself. I'll do my best to keep up."

Male Symbiont (Human) Cleric (Ancestral Priest) 5; HP 30/30; +0 Init; +7 Perception; AC 18 (Flat 18, Touch 10); Fort +6, Ref +1, Will +8

"I've never seen or heard of anything like those beasts before."

He turns to Tamayra.

Heal Check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9

Going to assume I failed that with a 9.

"Are you sure you'll be OK? They look bad, but I can't tell how bad without more time."

Female Human Obsidian Gunner Lev 5 | HP 51/51HP | AC 18 (FF 13 Touch 15) | Init+6 | Saves (Fort+5,Reflex+8,Will+4) | Grit 3/3 | Per +11

Are our magic items active now? Including the ones for replicating ammo?

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

Magic items good to go and yes, the check failed. You may take ten on the next check.

Female Human Obsidian Gunner Lev 5 | HP 51/51HP | AC 18 (FF 13 Touch 15) | Init+6 | Saves (Fort+5,Reflex+8,Will+4) | Grit 3/3 | Per +11

Should we continue following the path of the fox? I unfortunately do not have any equipment for tracking where we have been. We should have asked for map making equipment.

Male Symbiont (Human) Cleric (Ancestral Priest) 5; HP 30/30; +0 Init; +7 Perception; AC 18 (Flat 18, Touch 10); Fort +6, Ref +1, Will +8

"Do we have a better option right now? Aak, you at least seem more familiar with the terrain structure here. Where do you suggest we continue to?"

Grand Lodge

Male Half-Orc

While the terrain is familiar, the exact landscape is different, more sinister if you will. I suggest we keep following the fox...to be honest it may not matter which path we take, as Aak follows the fox pointing the path.

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

The path, though easy to follow, is overlapped several times. If it weren't for following the sculpture, it would be easy to get lost among the many routes. As the group nears the intersection of a series of several paths a swarm of darkly‐hued butterflies crowd about the everyone.

Roll Will Saves.

Perception rolls:

  • Aak: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
  • Jenya: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
  • Tamayra: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
  • Rheynold: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

Jenya:
Heading down the path you notice another fox, pointing just like the ones before it.

Will: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20

If you need us to carry your gear, then let us know Tamayra. I see another fox pointing to a route.

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

The swarm of darkly‐hued butterflies flit away shortly after Jenya has pointed out the fox.

Aak & Jenya:
The butterflies are clearly an illusion.

Female Human Obsidian Gunner Lev 5 | HP 51/51HP | AC 18 (FF 13 Touch 15) | Init+6 | Saves (Fort+5,Reflex+8,Will+4) | Grit 3/3 | Per +11

Illusions.... magic... is someone watching us? Jenya wonders. Let us head on

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

As the group heads on to yet another trail the surrounding area seems calm.

Male Symbiont (Human) Cleric (Ancestral Priest) 5; HP 30/30; +0 Init; +7 Perception; AC 18 (Flat 18, Touch 10); Fort +6, Ref +1, Will +8

Sorry for the delay, catching up.

Will: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12

"It may be possible illusions are normal in this world, we must ensure we aren't being fooled again. It's odd though, for all the evil that was supposed to be coming from this land through the portals, there seems to be very little of it here."

"I will continue to guard the rear. Your navigation skills and vision are better than mine."

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

Just at the edge of the lantern's light the group can make out another sculpture. As the group spots yet another marker, an overpowering musk assaults their senses. From the rear an immense moth with huge purple wings marked with spiraling black patterns that seem to shift and writhe catches Rheynold by surprise.

Fort Saves for all, DC 14.

Fail:
Take a –4 penalty to your Strength score—this penalty lasts for as long as the battle continues and for 1 hour thereafter.

Jenya turns around and fires at the mysterious monstrous creature.
