Barnabus II has acquired Soul Speaker.
This grotesque, amulet-like shrunken head
is said to contain the enslaved soul of its
former owner. Forced to obey whomever
carries it, once per day a soulspeaker can
repeat a message as if the spell magic mouth
were cast upon it. The owner must merely
hold the 6-inch-in-diameter head and speak
his message and the conditions under which
the soulspeaker should repeat it. While it
carries a message, the eyes of the stitched
head stretch open, closing as soon as its
message has been delivered.
Male Half-Elf Cleric (Glory and Restoration Domains) 1
Tamnir begins to look through the books, checking for anything that fits with his areas of expertise.
Take 10 on:
Heal: 20
Knowledge: Religion: 15
You find nothing, but a pouch on the self containing salts used in summoning familiars.
Male Half-Elf Cleric (Glory and Restoration Domains) 1
Tamnir puts the odd salts into his belt pouch, not really knowing whether they'll be any use.
"There's nothing I can use here, best get going now."
You walk onward to the ruins

"Yes. I'll check it out."
Can I tell what it is?
Know(Nature): 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 4 + 2 = 26
Bertrand will head off towards the sound, as quietly as he can.
Stealth: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
Not far from the edge of the forest-shrouded
lake, a fox with large ears and bright orange
fur lies bleeding, its hindquarters caught fully
in the jaws of a crude iron trap.

"Yes, I hear it. What animal makes that kind of sound?"
Tamnir stays put, waiting for Bertrand's return or signal.

"Sounds like a Firefoot Fennec, a small fox common to here. Pretty sure it is really tha cry an not a fake one."
"Bertrand should not be in grave danger!"
Male Human Ranger/2
No, he just has to decide whether he wants to free the cute little fox or take the time to skin it. Fox fur is valuable.
Bertrand will slowly approach the fox, making appropriate soothing noises and non-aggressive postures.
Wild Empathy: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Well, that's not going to help
Can I tell if it's crippled or just trapped?
Perception: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 5 + 2 = 12
You really can't tell, but you do see some blood.
Male Human Ranger/2
Before getting any closer then, I'll check the area for tracks of whoever set the trap.
Survival: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
The fox lies on the grassy shore of the
lake or river, some 10 feet from the water
and 20 feet from the forest.
you see tracks going into the forest
Male Human Ranger/2
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Can I identify the tracks? Or get an idea of how old they are?
Survival: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
"It's just a fox in a trap. Probably those goblins again."
The tracks, indicate that the creature is of medium size, a hobgoblin. The tracks are fresh like this morning fresh.
Male Human Ranger/2
Bertrand's going to try to let it out. Try to wrap the head and front legs in a sack, so it can't bite, then open the trap. Then it should be clear if it's too hurt to survive.
I have no idea what kind of rolls you might want for that, so have a few d20s and add whatever's appropriate.

Male Human Ranger/2
An ambush? Or a trapped trap? What will they think of next?
Bertrand cries out in pain and surprise and spins around to see what hit him.
Male Human Witch 3|| AC 14 /17 (mage armor) || hp 20/20|| Init +4 || Fort +1 Ref +2 Will +4 || Perception +5 || Condition: Normal

Perception:1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
"There's something in the trees over there."
Tamnir points towards the whatever-it-is. *Aid another*
If that roll was open to all, I'd assume I can pick out a little bit more detail with a 24?
You see a medium sized humanoid in the woods, using the underbrush to give some cover.
Male Human Ranger/2
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
I'm assuming I was shot. I will check my arse to be sure.
Bertrand moves into the forest, not quite on a direct line to where he could see the something. Once in the undergrowth, he'll slow and try to sneak around behind it, trying to get a better look at it while he moves.

As the arrow ricochets off of Tamnir's shield he growls in Elven.
His outburst is brought short by Bertrand's impressive strike, which changes his priorities immediately.
Assuming he has a clear run and the thing is within 40ft, Tamnir is going to charge the nearest razorcrow, treat this as a double move otherwise.
