Elisile shifts her aim past Hudak, out over the central well, to shoot at the Ironbriar that she wounded before I think that is the one at S8 or so, she should be able to get a clear shot.
2.
However, her turn is hasty, the string loosed a moment too soon, before the bow is pulled high enough, the arrow clatters into the wall below the walkway and drops down into the water.
Dravite.

Dravite Schorl
Dravite sees the Ape-thing drop and decides to make sure none of the others can close with Elisile, shooting two feathered fingers of death at the closest foe to her.
Rapid Shot=1d20+6=20, 1d8+3=9, 1d20+6=26, 1d8+3=8.
1d20+6=13 to confirm the second shot, if that hits then add 2d8+6=22 damage to the prior number.
Vethran Tallomane
Vethran finally shrugs off the dead bulk of the ape-demon and turns to regard his cousin's target. With a flick of his wrist, the Varisian launches a trio of deadly missiles at his foe.
Magic missile on the last Ironbriar. 8 damage total (crappy roll). Partial defensive (+2 AC) as a move action, staying in my square.

The Ironbriar, already wounded by Elisile's earlier arrow, collapses to the walkway.
End of combat, unless you want to pursue to wight.
As the bodies fall, they change back into cowled, masked cultists like those encountered above. Except one - the Ironbriar whose face Hudak sheared off. He remains the same - the original, now very dead, Chief Justice Ironbriar.
A quick search reveals that the cultist have mundane gear except for their masks - they have one each, so that's three - though one has a nice looking rapier too. Ironbriar also has a mask of a different type, a wand, a war razor and, underneath his robes, a mithril shirt. He also carries a slim book, a journal of some kind, though its contents are written in code.

Elisile is wounded and almost out of spells, she really doesn’t feel like splashing around in the water in pursuit of a potentially dangerous if currently neutered undead … but she’ll help if the consensus is to finish it off.
At an appropriate time, she’ll cast detect magic on the gear they’ve found. Did the demon have anything?
Alwyn Agnarrson
"Let's get the hell out of this pit before the thing in the water regains its courage. It is a dangerous foe, more dangerous than I want to face in our current condition." Alwyn slowly backs up the stairs.
I really don't want to go after it in the water. If it follows us, I'm happy to fight - if not, we can just leave it here.

Sounds good....somebody search the bodies for secret stuff or clues(?)

Illes Elandru
After making sure Vethran is okay and healing away the claw marks from demonic ape thing, Illes heals Elisile and Dravite. At that point he stands over one of the Ironbriars and says, "Well, we probably killed the real chief Justice of Magnimar here. What do you do after something like that?"
"Did you catch that at when he called up his men? Who's the Lord of Murder?"
CLW: 6+1 = 7 (Elisile)
Vethran Only had 2 damage
Dravite Onky had 2 damage
Elisile Starbrow
“Yes, it appears to be so,” says Elisile, gazing at the dead elven face under the mask, after nodding her thanks to Illes. “I do not know of whom he spoke, though I suspect it must be the leader of this cult of the Skinsaw, or the god or fiend they revere.” We’ve heard the name before this, haven’t we? Did anyone figure out who it referred to at the time?
She points out the items that radiate magic, suggesting they are gathered up before the group returns to the upper levels. She also takes Ironbriar’s journal. “It may contain some clue as to where to find this Xanesha,” she says, “if we can decode the writing.” Elisile has a +7 on Decipher Script, I think Veth’s is higher. Maybe between that and the various languages we know we’ll be able to figure out the code.
“Let us leave this place to the fallen.” Unless someone wants to burn or behead Ironbriar or something … never can be too careful when there’s undead about. Oh, also, apart from the listed treasure, did he have either some sort of spell component pouches or anything recognizable as a holy symbol?

Sorry......Hudaks' dumb.

I think we can get out the same way we came down. Once we get back up into the tunnel, Elisile will scout ahead for danger.
Assuming we can do so, lets get out and away from Ironbriar’s house (unless we want to quickly search his place for more clues) and head back to our inn to regroup.
On the way out of the house Elisile will unjam the door to the servant’s room.

The streets are quiet after dark, and the party gets back to the inn without any further trouble. Back in their rooms, they settle down to decipher the book they took from Ironbriar's dead grasp, and to identify the swag they seized.
DC 25 to decipher the book. You get +2 (cumulative) for the following:
- if you speak Elven
- if you speak Draconic
- if you speak Infernal
- if you have 5 or more ranks in knowledge (Religion)
- you use Aid Another as usual
The above can be a joint effort so anyone who can contribute in the party to the above conditions can grant a bonus. If you succeed:
The first part of the book contains a mildly nauseating, and distinctly creepy, description of Ironbriar's love life. He appears to have found love (or his version of it) with a person called Xanesha, who he also refers to as the Wanton of Nature's Pagan Forms. It is unclear from the book who or what Xanesha is or what her agenda might be, but it states that he has visited her over a dozen times at the "Old Lighthouse". Ironbriar seems besotted with her - indeed, it appears to be the first time he has ever experienced love - and that she has provided him with a new way of killing, a ghastly ritual that would appear to be very similar to Sihedron rune killings carried out by Foxglove in Sandpoint. In addition, it would appear that Aldern, in hock to the Brothers of the Seven financially, was despatched to Foxglove Manor to pick up a sample of something called "Vorel's Phage", a form of deadly necromantic poison or disease which Ironbriar amusedly notes appears to have infected Foxglove with ghoul fever. It describes Xanesha sending Foxglove back to Sandpoint after he arrive back in Magnimar, dying of the fever, to carry out his reign of terror. The sample of the Phage was passed on by Ironbriar to an outfit called the Scarlet Mantis, an order of assassins-for-hire, in exchange for a significant payment.
The last part of the book contains a list of names, most of them with ticks against them. Included in the ticked list you note the name of the husband of Eliza Jerrigo, the woman the party met outside the Justice Court who's husband had gone missing in the prison below. Also on the ticked list are a series of worthies from Magnimar - merchants, politicians and the like - whose names you recognise as having been gruesomely murdered in the recent wave of killings, plus those of Kerwin and Chakkov. On the relatively shorter, unticked list are more wealthy Magnimarites, including the Lord Mayor, Haldmeer Grobaras.

You can only make skill checks (including Aid Another checks) in Trained Only skills if you have ranks in them - Alwyn doesn't have ranks in Decipher Script (though maybe Altai does and that got you confused). In any case, it looks like Elisile got the DC.

Oooops - I think I thought that it was a straight Int check. Still, she made the DC, so no real damage done.
Vethran Tallomane
Vethran's Decipher Script is only 2 higher than Elisile's and Vethran doesn't speak Elven (though he does speak Draconic). So, really, it's effectively the same. Nice roll, Mothman!
Vethran has a scroll of identify ready, but I wanted to scribe it into my book so that we can identify stuff on the fly in the future. If nothing else, once it's in my book, I can scribe my own scrolls from it.

Sorry I didn’t get a chance to follow up this post with more detail before.
Back in the safety of their rooms, Elisile opens up Ironbriar’s journal and begins examining it in some detail. After a few moments she looks up, excitement shining in her eyes.
“I believe I can decipher this,” she says. “It is written in a combination of the elven tongue and Draconic, both of which I read, and a third language that I do not … however, there appears to be enough context and repetition of phrases in the three different tongues that I will be able to work it out … in a few hours.”
Please see the spoiler for details on the journal contents.
It’s probably quite late now, so if we rest enough for the casters to prepare new spells, that will probably take us through to mid morning the next day. I suggest we do so, then hit the streets, trying to track down this Old Lighthouse (Gather Info or Local Knowledge maybe?), assuming it is a location in Magnimar and not the Old Light back in Sandpoint… Xanesha seems to be pulling the strings here. Whether its worth also getting the items identified at that stage, I’m not sure, what do you guys think?
Elisile Starbrow
I don’t think any of us have Local Knowledge. Illes is the man for Gather Info, so he should probably lead there.
If this Xanesha is the Big Bad, it might be worth making sure we’re all properly geared up. Our magical treasure consists of:
3 cultist masks
Rapier
Ironbriar’s mask
Ironbriar’s wand
Ironbriar’s war razor
Ironbriar’s mithral shirt
Bracers
Getting all that ID’d will probably set us back in the order of 770gp (assuming the 3 masks are the same thing and we only get them identified once). Did we already get one of these masks identified before though?
It may (or may not) be safe to assume that the rapier and war razor are “standard” magical weapons, and that the mithral shirt and bracers are likewise “standard” magical armour.
Dravite mentioned he’d like the mithral, and Elisile wouldn’t mind the rapier, unless someone else can put it to better use; I’ve been meaning to get a masterwork one, but magical is even better.
Also, have we gotten XP since Foxglove’s townhouse? No problem if not, just making sure I haven’t missed any.
