Guys, I've had a player drop out of my OTHER Eberron campaign at very short notice and was wondering if anyone was interested in stepping in. The intention with this one is to go mythic, using the mythic rules but in the context of Eberron. Currently the PCs are about to go attack the enemy's secret base in a volcano, so there might be a little delay bring in a new character. Also, there might be limited options as to what will work in the context of where the game is now, but I'm interested to hear any ideas should anyone be interested.

Hi guys,

I’ve decided to retire from PbP gaming and will move away from the boards over the next few days. I started PbP in 2008. Over those years, I’ve met and played with amazing GMs and players. I’m grateful for all the things I’ve learned playing with them.

I’m sorry for the disruptions my sudden leaving causes.

Happy gaming,

DW

(This message is posted in all my current games.)

I've said this in the other thread, but it's worth repeating: Aubrey, I'm really grateful for you giving me the chance to join this game. It's been a blast!

Hope all is well, DW... You will be missed!

Seen you around for years, DW, but never had much opportunity to interact. Hope all is well for you. May our paths cross again someday.

Peace.

Just a quick note, but I will be away from Saturday for a week on holiday and will not have any internet access.

Yeah, I won't throw any stones, either, considering what I'm here to share...

At risk of telling the same folks the same thing repeatedly, I will share this here, as well.

I will be traveling next week, but expect to have access to post in the evenings. A little jaunt to try new cycling trails that have been built on retired railbeds. Primary concern right now is the storms that seem to be a nightly occurrence in that part of the country.

I have a spot open in the CotCT I'm running if anyone would be interested. They are near the end of the second book, and just hit level 6. Originally Dreaming Warforged had joined me, but then as you saw they decided to stop playing PbP, so I'm back to having a spot.

I also have a spot in my Mummy's Mask game, where they are about halfway through the first book (getting close to finishing the second site).

Bear in mind, I have some houserules that may not gel with some (posted in the Mummy's Mask campaign tab, and just hadn't put them in the campaign tab for CotCT yet). Please look at them before deciding, as they have been a deal breaker before.

I can see how that would happen. I actually quite like all of those. But I think I'm playing in about my limit at the moment.

The Other Eberron game.

Most recently the party, 7 5th level PC + a 2nd level NPC, was faced with a heavily guarded enemy camp. Enemies numbered 50-100, plenty of casters, 3 arcane ballistae, a warforged titan, most of the enemy troops were warforged -- I'd guess 3rd or 4th level. Our plan miscarried and we got into a fight with about 20 'forged archers in towers, a ballista and two or three casters. At least we all got out alive.

Earlier we were 'guests' in the camp of hundreds of lizardfolk who were all riled up because the enemy listed above was desecrating their holy site.

And before that we had to more or less beg charity in the camp of a friendly lizardfolk tribe.

The 'military option' has frequently not been the best option in that game.

Stepping back a moment. We have two goals here if I remember rightly.

1) Free the hostages.

2) Ensure the slavers stop bothering our new friends.

We've pretty much promised to do both. I can't remember (and don't really have time to go back and check) if we are getting anything out of it beyond warm fuzzies.

In which case plan A was sneakily attack, release the hostages and hopefully cause enough damage that 2) happens.

If we were to go for a negotiation approach, what do we have to bargain with?

Or do we just walk away?

Remember, we were also hired by our last caravan to return the caged children, and we were also somewhat still following the head taker (or by happenstance kept crossing paths with it. The new tribe members don't know about these last two though.

Morthak isn't the most subtle, but we could take a page from Conan the Barbarian. Sneak in and rescue the princess (prisoners), then retreat and make an epic stand among the ruins... maybe with the spirits on our side, inspired by our heroism!!

Actually, because its Dark Sun, more likely that the Dragon would happen to roll through and life drain us all. Ah well...

OK, that's a pretty good summation of why you are there. In the gameplay thread I just wanted to make clear, in case I hadn't, that the Blacksand Raiders are not a small organisation. There's quite a lot of them milling about out there, so a frontal assault could be a difficult experience.

Also, as Nenynxxx and Arakan have pointed out, there are a few reasons for being there. Some are more important than others. However, just to clarify, it was the nasty templar who had the kids in the first place who wants them back. He might be able to help you work out what the hell that weird prophecy you received might mean, and where it might happen, as he has astronomical knowledge. The caravan masters in Silver Spring just want you to provide intelligence on the Raiders.

So while up high we are looking for a sneaky way in. Preferably with some sort of non lethal distraction outside while we get the goods out....

Of to spend a week in a tent in deepest, darkest Norfolk. Please bot Jareen in the mean time. He'll be mean to Arakan, and grumpy to everyone, but handy with the spells....

I apologize for any delays on my part. I am off this week, so will be limited in how often I can spend time on the computer.

The next three weeks I am on a work schedule non-conducive to steady posting, so I will try to post when I can (could be as bad as once a week), but my player posts will be likely more frequent than my GM posts based on the amount of time each one takes.

Hi guys. I've been struggling a bit with my games lately. I have less time in the evening and it's also trickier to post at work. The sad realisation has come that something has to give. I currently run five games here on the boards and while it was doable a year or two ago, it doesn't seem to be anymore.

So I've made the decision that I'm going to close this game. Out of the five, this is the one with which I have struggled with the most. I've never really been as comfortable with the setting as with the other games (which are Eberron- and Golarion-based). Plus there is additional work as (1) it's not based on any published modules and (2) there is further conversion work required for monsters, characters and so on. I've never really felt as inspired by Dark Sun as by the the other settings either, which i think is down to my unfamiliarity with it.

So I'd like to thank you all for taking part, and sorry for ending the game here rather abruptly. Most of you are playing in other games of mine already, and for those of you who aren't, hopefully I will see you around the boards.

Cookie Jar Pilferer 9 ; Dimensional Explorer 4

Aubrey, first off, thank you for running the game. We were just getting our feet dry, so to speak, but I was enjoying it very much.

Second, I totally understand. I've always been amazed at the sheer number of games that you run, and their high quality. I can barely manage one. It takes time.

Third, I'm just glad you're keeping the others going.

Everyone else, I'll see most of you in other games, and hopefully I'll see anyone that I don't share a game with around the boards.

Ditto to all of this. I was having difficulty with this game as well, because i never really managed to like the character i had created.

Completely understandable. A Dark Sun game was one of the first I tried to run here, and the amount of work required for conversion and creation was one of the hardest parts.

Besides, Arakan was just telling me he has "Much better things to do than baby-sit a doddering old man and the band of half-wits that followed them around." I think he's trying to say it was fun, and I'll see you around the boards (and in any other games we may already share).

Never fear, Aubrey, we still love you!

Thanks for the opportunity to try out the setting - I'm not familiar with Dark Sun. I didn't get to take Jaryx very far, but I completely understand the concerns that time constraints bring.

I know I will see Aubrey around - maybe more than he wants after that initial comment - and hope to see the rest of you. It might have been brief, but it was good. No regrets.

Totally understand, Aubs! I struggle sometimes to run 2 campaigns, much less 5! It was a fun campaign, and I enjoyed playing my sun-addled dwarf again. Thanks for having me along!

For everyone, it was a pleasure. Happy hunting in your other games!
