CLOSED TO RECRUITING; Table is already full.

Welcome aboard! This table is exclusive to the Manila group recruited by UncleFroggy plus Muerte who is a professional GM for an AP I'm playing in but who is trying PBP for the first time.

I am currently in Asia as are obviously the whole Manila group. Our posting hours will be unusual relative to Muerte's in the US. I typically update at least once or twice per day. I ask that everyone please check the forums once every day and post daily as needed. Please try to post once during the weekend, too, especially during fast moving parts like combats or chases.

Please post your token here on Slide 3 and fill in the table. The slides for this session are also linked at the top of the page and in my GM header.

As per the Organized Play Foundation Community Standards, each player must decide if they will allow their characters to be damaged by friendly fire (usually via splash damage). In keeping with the “Explore, Report, Cooperate” motto of the Pathfinder Society, engaging in non-consensual character-versus-character conflict is prohibited. While accidental friendly fire happens due to missed attack rolls or other factors, players must obtain the consent of other players before deliberately including fellow PCs in damaging effects. This rule does not apply in situations where a character is not acting of their own free will, such as if they’re being mind-controlled by an NPC and forced to attack a fellow Pathfinder.

You may select a consumable item from the Pathfinder Provisions list.

Please keep all posts and communication in all channels limited to a PG-13 level and be both positive and inclusive.

Please label all three of your actions. Even if you think what you are doing is obvious.

If I am unavailable for longer than 48 hours, I will let you know in the Discussion Tab. Out of respect for your fellow players and myself, I ask that you do the same. Real life happens, and real life will always take priority over the game, but out of fairness for your fellow players, please let us know if you will be unavailable for an extended period of time.

Questions, concerns? Feel free to share them in the Discussion tab.

Let's have some fun and tell a great story together! After all, that's what we are here for.

Here's the RPG Chronicles sign up link.

For anyone new to PBP, here's a great primer on formatting for PBP

Also, Previewing dice rolls is highly encouraged. Not for the purpose of dice-hacking but so that you can describe how the activity resolved. To do this, enter the dice roll in the usual way, i.e.

(dice=Will Save DC 15)d20+4(/dice)

NOTE: You need to use square brackets like [] and not parentheses, but I wanted to show how to format a dice roll.

Then hit the "Preview" button. It will roll the dice so you can see the result:

Will Save DC 15: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

After seeing that 9 result in the Preview, you can then just keep typing what that means for your character: "Grog feels dizzy as the world turns upside down. He's sure the beautiful lady in the black robes decorated with freaky skulls is his bestest friend in the whole world, and he's ready to slaughter the five adventurers standing next to him at her command." Or whatever....

Same with Strikes. I try to post the AC of the creatures that you're fighting as you narrow it down so that you'll have an idea if your Strikes are hits or Crits after Previewing and can then describe the result appropriately.

Last tip for now. I always Select All and Copy before hitting Preview or Submit Post. The Paizo forums are notorious for just losing posts as soon as you submit them. Having them in clipboard memory will save your sanity when (not if) it happens.

Alright, we've got everyone here. Next is getting you set up in the Gameplay thread. Please just make a simple post using your intended charater's identity, something as easy as "doting in." Hit Submit Post, let the page refresh, then Delete the Post. This links your character to the game and will then start showing the campaign on your Paizo Campaigns tab along with notifications of unread posts. Deleting just cleans up the Gameplay thread until I can make an intro/setting post.

Hi GM Nomadical! We meet again, but this time, you're on the other side of the gameplay. :) If you don’t mind sharing, which country in Asia are you currently located?

Anyway, I’m done filling out the slides. I’m sorry for the delay, it took me some time conceptualizing this character's backstory and even decided to change his name. I’m still quite new to the game and it’s my first time playing a gunslinger so I ask for your patience if I make mistakes or ask questions/clarifications. Although I was told by someone that this class is pretty much one-dimensional, I’ll give it a try since I think my new character idea is a perfect match for this class.

Some notes for the GM, Pusong Bato will roll stealth for initiative to trigger his “One Shot, One Kill” and has the incredible initiative general feat giving him and additional +2 to initiative rolls. Friendly fire is okay, and Pusong chooses minor healing potion as his provision.

Just a little origin/backstory for Pusong:

Pusong Bato grew up in the rough outskirts of Alkenstar, where guns, smoke, and machineries were part of everyday life. His parents worked dangerous jobs in the powder mills, and a factory accident took their lives when he was still young. No one was punished, and no one really cared. At a young age, he learned that emotions were simply a sign of weakness. His heart eventually turned stone cold.

Alone and needing to survive, he joined a small mercenary crew. The veterans quickly noticed how calm he was, and how naturally he handled firearms. One of them once told him "A second shot means you failed.”And Pusong took that to heart. He trained day and night until his accuracy became frightening and was chosen as the crew’s long-range specialist. During an ambush, he single-handedly saved the team by shooting every attacker with a single bullet each right at the forehead.

When his crew broke apart, Pusong became a hired killer. He doesn’t boast, he doesn’t waste words, and he doesn’t fire twice. To him, a job should be clean, quick, and done with one perfect shot. From then on, he was branded as “the sniper who never missed”. I really hope Pusong lives up to this title. Paizo, give me high attack rolls please! HAHAHA!

If you want to do any of the following checks, please let me know and post what your modifier is so I can roll it in Secret. Do not roll these yourselves. (I mean, sure, you can, but it won’t count.) Also, as a reminder to our newest players, if you are Untrained in a skill, then you are much more likely to Crit Fail. In the case of these opening Recall Knowledge checks, that’s not a huge deal, but it could lead to your character Recalling false information that can lead your party astray or complicate things unnecessarily.

If you have an appropriate Lore related to any of these (Celiax Lore, for instance) that isn’t specifically called out below, please let me know.

Just to clarify 'coz I'm a little bit confused. When I roll Stealth for initiative, aside from triggering "One Shot, One Kill", do I also become undetected if the Stealth Check is higher than the enemy's Perception DC? Also is there a requirement or are there any restrictions if I prefer to roll my stealth for initiative?

Grand Lodge

| Icons: ◆◇↺♫ Lost Legacy slides

No worries. I had to look it up myself cause I was confused about how it gets run. And to be fair, it looks like it gets run incorrectly a lot.

Player Core pg 438 describes the various Exploration Mode activities. If you are Avoiding Notice in order to roll Stealth for Initiative, it says:

"You attempt a Stealth check to avoid notice while traveling at half speed. If you’re Avoiding Notice at the start of an encounter, you usually roll a Stealth check instead of a Perception check both to determine your initiative and to see if the enemies notice you (based on their Perception DCs, as normal for Sneak, regardless of their initiative check results)."

So, no you don't have to roll Stealth if you don't want to. Yes, you are Undetected by any enemy whose Perception DC you beat (regardless of whether you beat their Initiative or not.)

But let's look at Sneak, as referenced in Avoiding Notice. On a Success versus an enemy's Perception DC:

"Success: You’re undetected by the creature during your movement and remain undetected by the creature at the end of it. (For the purposes of this discussion, this movement refers to the movement inherent to Exploration Mode.)

You become observed as soon as you do anything other than Hide, Sneak, or Step. If you attempt to Strike a creature, the creature remains off-guard against that attack, and you then become observed. If you do anything else, you become observed just before you act unless the GM determines otherwise. The GM might allow you to perform a particularly unobtrusive action without being noticed, possibly requiring another Stealth check. If you speak or make a deliberate loud noise, you become hidden instead of undetected."

So is you do anything other than Hide, Sneak, Step or Strike, you are observed. If you Reload or Demoralize or Raise a Shield you immediately become observed and the enemy is then no longer Off Guard to your Strike. I'm sure there are exceptions (there always are) such as Take Aim or something like that, and those would either be spelled out or would fall under "The GM might allow you to perform a particularly unobtrusive action without being noticed..."

Make sense?

Grand Lodge

Correct. One Shot, One Kill has a Trigger of Rolling Stealth for Initiative and allows you to draw a weapon as a Free Action. Since it is a Free Action essentially as part of Initiative, it's not enough of an action to break Stealth.

BUT that and the bonus damage it gives are all. One Shot, One Kill does not guarantee that your target remains Off Guard if you do something else. In fact, since the bonus damage remains until "your first successful Strike ... during this encounter" you could Reload, etc without losing the bonus damage from the feat. But, if you do any of those things (see Sneak discussion above), you are Detected and lose the benefits of your target being Off Guard.

Which is kinda why I felt that Traditional Gunslingers are a bit one-dimensional. Probably better off being a starlit span magus (where you can use a gun) or a spellshot gunslinger which I think allows you to do the same...

I think for starlit span, you need to be a dwarf from certain locales to gain access to clan pistols without having to use a boon...

Basically there's no real restriction on using firearms. There are regional restrictions on the various archetypes in the book.

Starlit Span magus isn't really much less 1-dimensional to me. My magus isn't starlit span, but he's fairly limited in out-of-combat utility.

The question of how to roll Sense Motive came up, and there's a few ways to do it. It's a Secret check, so in theory you don't know the results, and of course you can't use a Hero Point or other Fortune effect to reroll it.

You can post in ooc text that you'd like me to roll one for you and tell me your Perception modifier and any relevant bonuses or penalties you have to the check.

[ooc]I'd like to Sense Motive, and my Perception mod is +5[/ooc]

Or you can roll it yourself inside a Spoiler and then not look at the results.

[spoiler=Sense Motive roll][dice=Perception]d20+5[/dice][/spoiler]

Which will look like this:

Sense Motive roll:
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

Then just don't peek at the result, and I'll post based on it.

Okay, so when One Shot One kill is triggered and Pusong strikes his opponent (regardless if it hits or not), he automatically becomes observed. Reloading will also remove his hidden condition, unless the GM considers it as an unobstrusive action. So I guess the most logical actions for Pusong during combat, considering that he is behind a cover and to increase his chances of getting critical attack rolls, are: Strike>Reload>Hide

Okay, so, the scenario should have been written to designate what square was originally rigged with the triggering pressure plate. But it wasn't. So, it would be up to Pusong to designate a square, but he probably wouldn't have wanted to do that with his teammates wandering around the room. So, let's say he set it to aim in the general direction of the main door since he fully expected "the bandits (to) return to the bookshop." But since he's standing right by the launcher, and the trigger is a Reaction, I'll let him use his Reaction in this round to fire the trap if he wants to.

Does that all sound reasonable? If not, or if Pusong wants to play it differently, please let me know.

Yes GM, it sounds reasonable to me.

Is the trigger one time only or can it be triggered every time someone steps on the designated square?

Also, do we still need to mark the designated square?

I'd say no need to mark a square at this point unless you really want to.

It's a one-time use thing. When you decide to make the Trap Strike, use the Ranged Spear modifier and damage from the trap link posted above.

Copy on this GM.

So many rolls and interpretation in my last post. Please feel free to check and correct me if I made mistakes and wrong assumptions.

You don't apply +2 when attacking an Off Guard enemy. You apply bonuses to your rolls like Courageous Anthem, but the GM applies penalties to their AC for Off Guard. It's a minor technicality, but it's how even Face to Face GMs run it. You should note in your post how you're making them Off Guard, but let the GM make the adjustment, please.

Ohh okay. My apologies, noted on this GM.

The Silencer is probably the worst written bit of equipment I've ever seen. As written, there's no mechanical effect AFAICT. The shot "makes a quiet noise." Meaning what? It doesn't allow an automatic success on the Hide check required by Covered Reload, it doesn't even provide a bonus to hiding after a shot.

But yeah, you Crit'ed both the Halfings and killed them outright.

You didn't make the Hide check as part of Covered Reload so were not Hidden to the wererat. In this case, it doesn't matter due to the Nat 20, but in future please make a Hide Check OR Take Cover.

Lastly, Cover is measured Center-to-Center, so the Wererat has pretty much Total Cover being outside the building. I'll redirect your attack to the last Halfling.
