I had that problem too... You could always have fun with it and learn a machine or assembly language :p
Communicate solely in binary! Confuse the meatbags! Have meaningful discussions with the ship's AI!
Mm that's a thought : )
Thanks for the kind words! We'll see if I can keep up at least the good bits. Here's hoping!
For combat, I do have to caution that you're all pretty much ranged skill monkeys with mostly small arms so there's going to be a LOT of pew pew. I actually changed the last club fight to make it more melee focused and those were probably the most interesting parts (other than the beernade!).
As for locales and languages. The adventure will get real exotic soon enough and there's no realistic way for you guys to know what languages are going to be useful or not!
Huh, we ARE all ranged skill monkeys. How bizzare.
No magic, no melee, just a whole lot of pew and McGyvering. With that advantage, if we all did aid another actions during skill checks I bet we could beat some pretty high DCs. We should keep that in mind, especially when hacking computer systems and such.
That was a great post GM, it's really nice to see the consquences of our actions. I assume the level 21's and Tian's syndicate (forgot ther name sorry) both knew we were probably going to destabilize the Kings so they watched to see if they could take advantage of the power vacuum. Looks like they might end up fighting over the territory, even? Really cool to see the reaction.
We were lured to Starfinder with the promise of spaceship so I assumed we would be doing some of that eventually. And that usually leads to exotic things : )
And yeah we sorta brought it on ourselves with our class picks. I was sorta looking at the Solarion (sp?) but man those skill-points looked positively painful. Maybe a splash later ...? Or that Technomancer dabbling feat. Or something!
But even we operatives get some shenanigans later on - just not right now.
Would you mind if I left some language slots open? That way Leila can spend some time later on studying relevant languages. Means that yeah she'd probably know the campaign important languages eventually. But not right now just by some fluke, only eventually :P
Otherwise I can just jot down Dwarven or something . )
Also if you'll indulge me. A questionnaire
What do you think of the way the setting is described and unfolds?
Excellent - the engagement of all the senses, particularly smell, makes the setting really immersive. I take my hat off to you.
Are the NPC interactions realistic?
Oh my, yes - even the bit part NPCs! I really hope to go back and spend some 'quality time' with Gorsen at some point. With a bullet or six and maybe something sharp.
How are the combat sections of the game? The talky bits? The investigative parts?
Combat keeps moving, which is the main thing. Helps that we're all able to post frequently - most of the time anyway *coughs*
Talky bits are good - there's a ton of exposition to be done and it's hard to do, but it doesn't come off like "As you know, your father, the king..."
Investigative stuff was a ton of fun! Fi's connections with organised crime, Leila's backstory, it all really fit the theme.
How is the game going overall? Any advice?
It's going great - don't stop!
I'll level up once I have a bit more energy to focus. I owe you a PM too, I haven't forgotten. Just a bit drained right now: finally caught up with posting in all my games.
+7 Stamina points
+6 hit points
+12 skill points (including specialisation skills)
1 Profession: Smuggler
1 Profession: Organised Crime
2 Sleight of Hand
Operative Exploit: Field Treatment
EDIT: Languages. We should co-ordinate on this to get as many as possible between us.
Currently, Fi speaks Tian (homeworld), Common, Elven and Lashunta/Castrovelian. Adding another rank to Culture gives her one more language.
I was thinking of taking Draconic, but if anyone already has this I'll take something else.
Astrianna's Languages: Common, Castrovelian, Elven, Draconic (int bonus), Vercite (Culture 1), Shirren (Culture 2)
Ha, Int-based character, but I'm having the least amount of skill points of the group :) Indeed, a group of skill-monkeys... BTW, are we collectively missing any particular skill?
+6 HP, +6 SP
Mechanic trick: Overcharge
Leila has Common, halfling so far. I'll add dwarven and gnomish but I still need 3 more (and double check what my starting options are). Some computer language might actually sound like a fun idea!
I'm not sure what we are missing. Well except a whole bunch of Profession: Derp that is :-)
In another game I'm playing we made a Google calc sheet for a skill overview. Maybe we could have one?
Can use another page to track loot n stuff which is quite handy!
Disguise. That's the only skill I think we don't have anyone with actual ranks in. Good thing we found that fancy holo-thingy : )
Astri will be picking up ranks in disguise eventually. As she gets more famous (the eventual fate of Iconics), she will HAVE to use disguises to get away with any bluffs.
Right now I'm putting points in class skills so she can be an aid other monkey on top of her social stuff. Not to mention that once we get a ship the Captain sometimes has to make aid other rolls in order to boost stations.
Edit: Actually, now that I think about it, I might as well start putting points into disguise now. We have plenty of Engineering.
If the GM is okay with it I'd like to switch Astri's last level-up skill point from Engineering to Disguise. Still going to keep the Athletics (drowning is not fun, even with a spacesuit).
@Language - That makes. I'll wait until we have some downtime . )
I will have some trouble posting this week.
Finland will be celebrating its 100 years of independence (hooray!), but unfortunately my workload has little respect for this achievement. So I'll just have less time to do all the work...
But I'll try at least to keep reading the thread.
Well you have fun : )
Happy 100th to Finalnd! I've always wanted to visit the Scandinavian countries, hope I get the chance some day.
Any objections to heading to Lorespire Complex and giving Chikisk some big fat evidence of unlawful corporate activities?
Hopefully the Starfinder society will get involved with that space rock now. Hopefully we get to poke around on it!
Nope! No objection at all!
Sorry, work has been crazy since I got back from my trip. Still here! Admittedly not a lot to do right now in-game - happy to take a back seat while Astri and Leila schmooze their way across Absalom Station!
Thanks for the wishes, all!
I hope I'll be able to catch up during weekend or Monday. But looks like Astrianna and Leila are doing just fine right now :)
Busy at work/life right now, will try to post tomorrow evening!
Such a great post requires a proper reply!
Woop woop Mirror's Edge! Such a beautiful game. Love the cityscape!
Also I think I'll simply make two posts - first a small one about the week and then one regarding our invitation. Seems more manageable : )
Haven't played the sequel myself either yet ... Not for the lack of time I'm just afraid that it won't be quite as awesome as the first one!
I still have plenty of posting time but there are going to be several days gone due to visits and shopping and stuff. So spotty but I should manage I hope : )
And pity about the office.
I'll get to this next I swear! Probably later today.
Besides this current business I'll be really busy the 26th-1st. Should still get to poost occasionally but it won't be as much as normal.
Looks for me the worst is now behind me, and hopefully rest of the year will be easier. (Except next Wednesday - one more 7-hour meeting to go)
23th - 26th I'll be out of town for Xmas, and unlikely to be online that much.
Well I guess an office is technically bolted to the walls so Leila will just have to wait a bit to get it honestly :P
For myself I'll most probably not be posting over the holidays (which includes the 26th of December. Boxing Day in Canada woot).
And also because I'm working on something mind boggingly tedious that I need to take regular breaks from or my mind would melt. I put all of the soundtrack so far into a youtube playlist cause why not.
I got home last night, immediately passed out like some kind of narcoleptic slug, and slept for 12 hours. It was nice.
Will also check out this playlist.
Skills: Profession in the CRB has this blurb:
Earn a Living You can use Profession to earn money. A single check generally represents a week of work, and you earn a number of credits equal to double your Profession skill check result. At the GM’s discretion, you can use other skills (such as Computers or Engineering) to earn a living following the same guidelines.
So if everyone wants to do so then let me know what skill you wish to use, and either roll or take 10. We can do that in Discussion.
Edit: Also Formal Clothing costs 5 credits!
Alright I'll push ahead in a bit. I think Fianh has been waylaid by international events again. Thoughts with you Finah. Stay strong and jump back in when you can.
As always anyone who wants to skip backwards to do any RP is more than welcome to.
And the full playlist with when I imagine the music to have been played is in the Campaign Info Tab if anyone is interested.
Ahh thanks! Must have missed that part about using professions to earn credits.
Profession: video personality Take 10 +13 = 23. So 46 credits for astri?
Everyone gets new clothes! It's coming out of the group budget because it's important! Astriana is forcing you to don't try to argue! Make them nice! Remember, functional and classy! You should still be able to run and stab people to death!
Yeah, poor Fi. Hang in there.
Thank's for the new outfit : )
And I don't think Leila will work this week. Makes so sense for her to go back to her old profession while she still has so much Starfinder stuff to explore (and still have some credits in her pocket :P).
Maybe once she knows the place a bit better she can help out with the restructuring of the HQ instead. And that's a good angle for her new little sidequest!
Brr it looks just as friendly as one would expect :P
These are great posts, no need to apologize for them!
This is how you make the game actually go.
By the way, group loot reminder.
Industrial Backpack (with good dwarven lock but no key) containing:
Duravor Kreel's identification documents
1 engineering tool kit
1 tube of bonding epoxy
2 gear clamps
Shock grenade I
Incendiary grenade I
Quick Release Sheath Armor Upgrade
Prospero, you want any grenades or the rifle?
Fi, you want that quick release sheath?
Anything is up for grabs of course.
I can carry the Autotarget Rifle as backup, for situations when enemy is resistant to fire. I can take one of the granades. I think Astrianna was also proficient(?)
