I put the info on the crew of the Man's Promise under the campaign info tab.
See if that works for you.

@ Joshua: I was introduced to an awesome PbP guide by Doomed Hero (click on blue link) as an intro to play-by-posts when I first started. Helps heaps!
I found once I understood using Bold, italics, strike-throughs or out-of contexts.
In exampl, here is [ b]Bold[ /b] = Bold
Some people add quotation marks when they’re speaking in character. Some don’t.
[ b] “Welcome Joshua.” [ /b]becomes …
“Welcome Joshua”
****Please note: remove the spaces from in front of the b: [ b] [ /b]
The other main factor is the dice roller.
Atri takes a 5’ step to the north and flanks. He slashes at the goblin with power and fury. He also takes advantage of the Bless spell which was recently cast.
[ dice=pike + flank + bless] 1d20+7+2+1 [ /dice] becomes …
pike+flank+bless: 1d20 + 7 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 7 + 2 + 1 = 21
The other thing that’s cool about the dice roller, is it will do arithmetic without needing a die roll ...
Atri enters Filosten’s Frothing Alembic and spies a half-elven cleric he’s trying to avoid. Atri hugs the shadows as he slinks his way over to where his friends are sitting.
[ dice= Take 10 Stealth] 10-3 [ /dice] becomes …
Stealth: 10 - 3 = 7

@ Darvan - I think you need to set up a profile.
@ everyone - see how Atri's character is set up to post - his class, level, hp (current / max), ac, init and perception are listed.
I am ready to move forward when everyone is settled.
Sound off and give me a "go - no go" status please.

Atri Vulturis |

@ Darvan/Joshua, I'll try to walk you through this but bare in mind I'm still figuring the Paizo PbP thing out as well...
1. Setting up the character:
a. Click on My Account
b. Find your alias, DONT click on Edit, click on the alias' name
c. You'll be able to set up your profile there.
d. The stuff next to Atri's pic is entered on the race line
2. I used an Alias, from what I understand, AP's aren't PFS sanctioned.
3. No email notifications, I favored the page and keep an eye on it.

DM Kludde |

No email notifications, but the boards remember which threads you looked and, and which you posted in. On any of the message board folders, you can select the 'focus' button to see only those threads. Thread you posted in have a dot next to them.
Campaigns for which you posted in the gameplay tab show up in the 'my campaigns' tab of the message boards. New posts will be indicated by (1 new)x, and you can click directly on that to get there.
You can also click on your own name (just above the avatar picture) to see your profile, which has a 'campaigns' tab, showing an overview of your campaigns.
Once you have a working alias, you can 'post as' your alias by selecting the proper alias from the drop-down.

Keith S. |

We will give Darvan a chance to get up to speed before we proceed.

Atri Vulturis |

I've included Atri's stats in a spoiler ( [ spoiler=Stats]...insert info here...[ /spoiler] ) within the "About" box.
Don't worry about dumping a character or alias, just choose the alias or character you want from the "Post as" drop down when posting.

Keith S. |

Twice in two days I have tried to get on line only to find the Paizo board down. So this means my posting will be spotty too!

Keith S. |

Awaiting me..alas, work problems. But I am back now!

Keith S. |

Hah. Unfortunately these issues are more personnel and also political related. Something the engineer in me does so well!

Keith S. |

Anyone going to GenCon this year besides me (and Atri)?
Next Sunday 5/18 is the first day to pick order your event tickets.
If we link up there, I will buy you a beverage!

![]() |

Indy is somewhat unreachable from the Europe I'm in. I am travelling Stateside in late June, though, passing through DC and Vegas. If any of you happen to be in the area, I'll gladly buy you a drink as well :)

Keith S. |

I am in Saint Louis, Missouri - so nowhere near where you will be.
Some other time, perhaps...

Keith S. |

Lads - work is going to be difficult for a couple days. I still hope to do my "1 post a day thing" but if I go radio silent, you know why.

Keith S. |

And we are going to need a new player since the elf is a goner (and isn't posting anyway).

Keith S. |

Atri can certainly use the pistol.
I am considering toying with firearms to make them more deadly (a pistol might not even kill a mook the way it is written) but slow to load, making them "use and drop" sort of things like they are in all the PIRATEY movies.

Playing around with equipping a pistol via HeroLab, I'll need Exotic Weaponry (Firearms) and Gunsmithing feats to equip.
At third lvl I can only add one feat unless the DM deems it playable. The alternative being to follow feat progression (lvl 5) and not wield the pistol until then....although I doubt I'll pursue due to it's ineffectiveness.
Your call boss.

Keith S. |

What do folks think about making it more effective? Say double the damage but double the reload time?
As far as the feats, see this link
I am thinking about making the campaign with emerging firearms - only gunsmithing to use, but only early firearms too.
Might have to scroll down in the link to read that section.

What about cannons? This level, Wilma will choose a siege weapon proficiency (to become a full-blown siege engineer later on). I'd choose cannon, as that would make sense from a AAAARGH! point of view, but if cannon are unavailable, perhaps ballista makes more sense.

Keith S. |

I am thinking cannons would be available, but in limited numbers. It is hard to build a ship to hold them (the recoil when they fire).
Maybe more of a siege engine as opposed to a ship weapon at this point?
What do you guys think? This is more of an open discussion item at this point.

Keith S. |

How about we assume we will have cannons.
Wilma can make her choice of feat with that assumption.
If it doesn't work out after our discussion or gameplay, we can re-do Wilma's feat choices as necessary.

Darvan Waverider |

I think I might have a 4th player.
I think cannons and pistols are fine for you landlubbers, my swarthy version of aquaman will continue to rely on magic and a good old fashioned pitchfork.
I do think that pistols/guns seem to be a lot of trouble for what they do under the standard rules. Increasing the damage and extending the reload time seems like a good way to make them work.

Dewyn |

Hello all!,
My name is Harlan and was just recently recruited by Darvan to tag along for the adventure, seems your Wizard just bit the dust :). I have a bit of experience with pen and paper games and using Roll20.net but the play-by-post is new to me, I'll be sure to do my research on it ( I noticed Atri posted that link, thanks btw!)
Anywho, does anyone feel there is a gap that specifically needs to be filled when it comes to class choice? I'm open to rolling whatever!
Also, are all options open on http://www.d20pfsrd.com/ ? or are we sticking to certain books?
Thanks again and a pleasure to roll with you all!

Keith S. |

I would like to stick with the base races. We have one oddball Tengu in the group already ;)
I am open to most classes - although some folks can turn up options that surprise me. So I reserve the right to veto the choice.
Please check out one of the other fellows header and follow the same sort of format listing HP, AC, etc.

Keith S. |

OK. Lets go with the following on guns.
We have early firearms and limited cannons.
Guns do double damage and take twice as long to load as shown on the tables.
This should turn us a bit more toward the swashbuckling style of game vs. the medieval type.
Which I think is good.

Atri Vulturis |

Cool.
Atri wants the pistol and shot!
If you approve, I'll add the Gunsmith and Exotic Weapon (Firearms) feats ...to make HeroLab work.
Just to clarify:
Pistol - 20' range, 2d8+2 (double dmg), 2 rounds to load (double load time), rolling a natural 1 = misfire
Never played with guns...except in Reno, just to watch him die...

Keith S. |

Add feats as necessary. I think the rules for early firearms say that just the gunsmithing feat is needed.
Perhaps we should also call them martial weapons?
Or is that too limiting?

Darvan Waverider |

Welcome Harlan/Dewyn!
I cannot remember what point buy we used? 15?
I think we built mostly using Core/APG/UMag/UCom ... with a few GM approved additions from URace and UClass
Obviously a water based character works well. (don't forget the swim skill!)
We don't have anyone who is very blasty/shooty at this point. We don't have a trap finder/lock picker
An arcane caster could be useful (Wizard/Sorcerer/Witch?) but I don't know if it is necessary.
A rogue/swashbuckler that went into a piratey prc later could be cool.
We've got a lot of bases covered right now, so I think you can play just about anything you like.
Atri climbs/jumps/sneaks/stabs people.
Wilma sings/shoots/stabs people. (headed toward siege engineer)
Darvan buffs/heals/tanks/talks to fishes. (lots of swim and prof:sailor)

Atri Vulturis |

Yes, welcome aboard!
