Joareln, having been convinced by Vaelin's Divination spell, shoots his light crossbow at the prone Summoner:
Attack: 1d20 + 12 - 4 ⇒ (18) + 12 - 4 = 26 vs prone AC

Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

.
.

Camabah, smug in his vindication of suspicion, lustily casts a fireball on the center of the group of sleeping adventurers -- even managing a smirking wink at Lord Magnius, 30 feet away from the fireball.

Fireball: 6d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 5, 6, 5, 6) = 26
Ref DC 16 if applicable

Itch, the Imp, giggles in glee bathing in the instantaneous fire.

All sleeping PCs are now wide awake.

Male Human Investigator 3/Inquisitor 5

Magnius, morning star in hand, advances on the wizard. "It will be my sincere pleasure to crush you beneath my boot, pretender" 20 foot movement to close to Camabah, who is hopefully, not too far away

Please give me Ref Saves for Camabah's Surprise Fireball-- Yaos, Pale Wing, Red Wing.

And for Alfred Ensbridge and Manius Battori, that was a pretty sizzling 3rd level spell that got you sleeping dragons, too.

Surprise Round:

.

Joareln ...Fired light crossbow at Yaos, hitting
Yaos .... Used Hero Point to fight off Drow Poison and----tbd----
Camabah .... Cast Fireball on clustered PCs and Imp
Red Wing .... ----tbd----
Lord Magnius Arvanxi ....Swiftly activated Judgement and moved to Camabah
Itch, Imp Familiar ....Turns Invisible, VERY worried about Yaos
Ranger / Scout ....Confused, does not act, considers the possibilities
Six Guards ....Confused, do not act, consider the possibilities
Vaelin ....activates Robe of Bones, commands the guards

Itch, seeing that he is now quite vulnerable to the, er, somewhat angry sorceress-lady, disappears in a panic of Invisibility.

.

The guards and Ranger seem momentarily torn between choices, pausing in confusion.

.

Vaelin, now with Lord Magnius close by and the guards not doing what he expected them to, cries in anger:
"These Chaos-Spreaders have poisoned you?! Wait not for your Commander to rise from his rest, see the sows of discord and chaos they have wrought and ATTACK!"
Diplomacy: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (18) - 1 = 17

Then the secretary detaches the necromantically embroidered Skeleton from his Robe of Bones-- not completely understanding of the implications associated with an inability to control the Undead -- and unleashes the animated bones.

Yaos takes a 5 foot step to the side, if I can do this while using the SLA, to avoid a possible AoE from the imp. Yaos then uses her Summon Monster IV SLA,Summing a team of Aerial Leopards just next to the three attacking the party.

Summon Monster IV: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

That is four Leopards, each with +4 Con and Strength and the Aerial template, also gaining +2 to hit and damage from the presence of Pale Wing. Two will attack Camabah, one Jaoreln and one Vaelin.

attack Leopard 1, Vaelin, claw 2: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
damage Leopard 1, Vaelin, claw 2: 1d3 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9

Red Wing will then move in to attack. It will attack Camabah, if he is not standing, Vaelin and if he is not standing Joareln.

attack Red Wing, claw 1: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
damage Red Wing claw 1: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

attack Red Wing claw 2: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
damage Red Wing claw 2: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

With a bit of luck this damage, and maybe an AoE, will kill off Camabah before his fireball.

Surprised by the sudden attack from Itch, but fast enough to react with tactical acumen before Phandros' cadre can continue to exploit the surprise, Yaos' quickly summoned Leopards begin attacking, full-out, their enemies.

The first two leopards each get some of the Wizard's blood to color the ground.
(Camabah loses 44 HP)

One leopard, focusing on Joareln, finds out just how uncanny the flat-footed Rogue dodges most of the claws and fangs, but still manages a hit,
(Joareln loses 9 HP)

Meanwhile, the final leopard begins to devour the flat-footed clerk with ease.
(Vaelin loses 33 HP)
.
.
.
.
In the Surprise Round Red Wing can move to Camabah but not also get a Standard Action.

LOL, I was totally caught off guard that your summonded monsters would get full attacks in just the Surprise Round but, of course, I don't see why they can't. Holy Moly!

Camabah, surrounded by two leopards even as he was preparing to ambush the wicked interlopers when Itch became visible, quickly considers his tactics.

And takes a five foot step and casts his Fireball defensively, still putting it in the presence of the Yaos, Red Wing, Pale Wing, Alfred Ensbridge, Manius Batori and Itch.
Cast Defensively: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13 vs DC 21

And Camabah loses the Fireball!

Vaelin, not wise to the ways of tactics, fumbles with his Robe of Bones and provokes an Attack of Opportunity from the leopard that is currently in the process of killing him.

But the Skeleton still comes out!
....Giving the clerk at least the courage to shout out his command for the Ranger and guards to enter the combat.

The sound of combat awakes almost everyone. The Halfling slaves watch from their wagon, disinterested in the outcome -- one Devil-serving master is the same as another.

The group of peasants and crafts-folk moving with Phandros to Gheradescci County watch in fear, anxious of the outcome.

The other two Rangers and the other twelve guards all awake as well.

And Aman the Cavalier, Lion of Phandros and commander of the guard, immediately gets up and, drawing his Glaive, prepares to enter the battle.
Initiative: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27

Oddly, Francesco Phandros does not immediately appear from within his own wagon.

Initiative: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (4) + 12 = 16

Aman, Lion of Phandros, rises from his light sleep and commands his soldiers to attack.

Then, approaching Lord Magnius, Glaive in hand, issues a Challenge to the Arvanxi Lord.

All of the guards, hearing Vaelin and seeing and hearing Aman, consider which side to join.

(Move Action to get up. Swift Actionto Issue Challenge. Free Action to order his troops. (Standard) Action to move to Magnius, drawing his weapon)

Joareln, Leopard in his face, focuses his wrath on the Lady who summoned it.

Deftly stepping away from the cat, he rapidly reloads and fires.

Fire One: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (7) + 12 = 19
Here comes the PAIN: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Fire Two: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
and another: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

.

(5 Foot Step away from the Leopard, closer to the group of PCs. Full Round Rapid Reload and fire)

Itch, Alfred Ensbridge, Manius, Yaos & Pale Wing are in one cluster.

Magnius, Leopards, Aman, Vaelin and Joareln are in another cluster.

Six guards and a Ranger are in a third.

And twelve guards and two Rangers are in a fourth cluster, furthest away.

Yaos will move behind cover from the rogue firing at her if there is any close. Only his first attack hit by the way. Yaos then uses her Summon Monster IV SLA,Summoning a second team of Aerial Leopards just behind the group attacking the party if possible. I doubt I can, my summons has a range of 45 feet, and that would have to put them behind. If my guess on this is wrong, most of my attacks will get flanking.

Summon Monster IV: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

That is four Leopards, each with +4 Con and Strength and the Aerial template, also gaining +2 to hit and damage from the presence of Pale Wing. The second team is 3 leopards, otherwise the same.

Please note the Leopards have orders to stop attacking once a foe goes down.

Yaos speaks, loudly but clearly, pointing an accusing finger at Jaoreln:-

Attack: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (3) + 16 = 19
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10

And 30 feet away among the carnage of cats and man, the leopards continue their assault on Francesco Phandros's cadre.

Camabah, Joareln, Vaelin and Aman are each bled from vicious wounds.
(losing 33, 41, 25 and 29 HP respectively)

And Lord Magnius Arvanxi, standing toe-to-toe with the Commander of guard, Aman of the Phandros Lions, is ready to strike.

Likewise is Alfred Ensbridge, seeing the Imp, Itch, close by, and the rest of the cadre knee deep in leopards -- not to mention 18 guards and 3 Rangers, ready to join the party.

But there is still no sound or movement from the personal wagon of Francesco Phandros.

As the battle heats up the Master Summoner's leopards continue their onslaught of Francisco Phandros' cadre as Lord Mgnius suggests sending one of them to check on the young noble, quiet in his own caravan.

Magnius himself wields his weapon to devastating effect against the Cavalier commander, offering a tempting 100 gold to any soldiers who change loyalties.

Alfred Ensbridge, an enemy near his face and confident the leopards and Magnius can handle the cadre, focuses his energy on Itch, nearly killing the Imp Familiar in six seconds of firing his deadly bow.

.

Itch, for his part, grows ever more concerned as he is now one against three. Instinctively, he flutters back a couple feet and becomes invisible, hoping desperately that they can't see him through his magical stealth.
Perhaps if me lives and me master do not live, me can be free to corrupt on mine own -- and no longer will me have to watch as me master does dirty stuff to Halfling feet, the sick bastard.
.
.
.
.
The three Rangers, upon hearing the offer for gold, conclude that the newcomers are mercenaries, that money is everything to them instead of loyalty. How Chaotic, how insulting.

One fires his bow at Lord Magnius, helping his commander:
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

Two fire at Yaos, who summoned the leopards:

Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
.
.
.
.
The 18 soldiers, on the other hand, are far more of mixed opinion. After a moment of indecision, they have made their choice....

From the words of Vaelin and the orders of Aman, some 'charge' forward in defense of Phandros.

Against Vaelin: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Damage on leopard 1: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

The other nine seem to be holding back, waiting to see which side will win before deciding.
.
.
.
.
Vaelin moves back in order to get away from the danger he faces, putting his newly conjured Skeleton between himself and his enemies. Unfortunately, inexperienced to the ways of combat, he neglects basic tactical sense and provokes opportune attacks from his enemies....

The posts look much neater with the spoilers you suggested DM Ray.

Male Human Investigator 3/Inquisitor 5

Yaos, not that it matters for my last attack, but for future ones, can I assume your leopards(or other summons) will move to flank with me whenever possible? Ie, do I currently have a flanking buddy?

Certainly Magnius.

Regarding flanking with summoned creatures,.... considering the lesson I have just learned (the hard way) that managing 3.4 million summoned creatures & soldiers in a fight is quite a task on PbP (significantly different from OtT gaming), my plan is that in the future I will look for opportunities to A) put several mooks together (like the 9 you have here) for Yaos to use her creatures on, or sometimes B) provide a big enough baddie that Yaos just summons one really tough creature, cuz the little ones would need nat 20s or something or could only do nonlethal because of DR or something). These leopards are quite a challenge to track! Anyway, it's our first combat -- with likely another one coming close behind it (the Halflings) -- we're learning each other out.

I will be posting Rd 2 for Camabah and Manius asap.

Camabah attempts to Acrobatically move away from the two leopards attacking him and then lines up Magnius, one leopard on Magnius, and one of the interlopers 40 feet away. Then he fires a Lightning Bolt.

Acrobatics to avoid AoO: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 (vs Leopards' CMB)
Provoking two AoOs!

Lightning Bolt: 6d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 2, 2, 4, 2) = 19 vs Ref 17
Targets Magnius, one Leopard on Magnius, and Yaos

Who does Camabah target after lining up Magnius?:

Even for Alfred Ensbridge / Odd for Yaos: 1d2 ⇒ 1

Manius fires a shot at Camabah!

Attack: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (18) + 16 = 34
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

I believe I am up now

Seeing his companions he hit by the lightning, Alfred deems it necessary to end the threat, so he fires at Camabah.

Bow with Manyshot and AL: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (11) + 15 = 26

Iterative Bow with AL: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

Also I never made a save vs the fireball

Refelx vs Fireball: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (11) + 15 = 26

I think Alfred is only down the 13 damage from the fireball so while grumpy he is largely unphased

If those hit, which they may well not given the crap rolls, won't Camabah need to make a concentration check to unleash the spell? If we are really lucky he might be dead, he has taken a lot of damage for a Wizard if my memory serves me well. Or Manius might have put him down.
The lightning bolt won't put Yaos down even with a failed save, so you don't have to hold things up.

I will mention that if any of my attacks can not target Camabah because he is dead, Alfred will target Joareln instead

The leopards claw at the wizard backing away but miss despite his clumsy attempt and being acrobatic.

Manius hits Camabah square in the shoulder, further hurting the wizard.

And in a blaze of triumph of the first-kill, Alfred Ensbridge ends the Transmuter's life as the wizard crumples to the ground.

loose ends:

Camabah provoked the AoO when he moved but did not cast the spell until after the Move was finished. There was no continuous damage from the AoO (such as Bleed) so no Concentration was needed. In this case it's moot because the leopards missed.

.

@ Alfred Ensbridge,
The Fireball from earlier was fizzled after a failed Concentration check. It didn't go off.

.

@ Yaos and Magnius,
The Lightning Bolt does go off, on a line with Magnius, Yaos, and one of the leopards on Magnius. The Ref is 17 for half damage.

Yaos makes the save, taking 9 points of damage. Yaos is delighted to see Alfred take Camabah down, saying:-

Fine blow Alfred.

The leopard sent to Francesco Phandros' wagon to scout out why the young noble is doing nothing approaches the wagon, then lowers its head a bit and looks back at Yaos with an odd feline expression.

(Anyone know what an "odd" feline expression looks like? ....Let me know if there's actually a way the leopard could communicate what it learns. It can paw or scratch at the wagon entrance, I guess -- gaining no entrance.)

I remember asking if I spoke Auran and gave things the Airial template, we could talk to each other. That is why the leopards fly and crackle with lightning. I am not 100% sure [I am only posting cos I can't sleep, minds not at its best] but I think you said probably, without making a final decision. Hopefully it can just talk.

Male Human Investigator 3/Inquisitor 5

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13 Ref vs LB, failed, takes 19, down to 55.

Magnius curses in Infernal as the lightning bolt catches him full on, but he is hardly the worst for wear. Then he sees Alfred take down the wizard, which makes the blast much more tolerable.

Oh didn't notice that. Then Alfred is at full hp still

At the end of twelve seconds the fight for Francesco Phandros heats up, battle lines drawn:

.

The three Rangers, with evidence that the group are chaotic mercenaries, continue their assault, one firing at Magnius and the other two shooting Yaos!

Ranger Attacks:

VS Magnius: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

CRITICAL HIT shot at Magnius' jugular vein!
Additional Crit Damage: 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (6, 8) + 4 = 18
That's 25 HP on Magnius from the Ranger's arrow

VS Yaos: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

VS Yaos: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

.

The caravan guards, their decisions made, continue fighting.

Nine are standing just outside of the fight, some pretending to 'want' to get into combat but just unable in such a crowded battle field -- others of those nine more obviously waiting to join whichever side is victorious.

But nine are in combat.

4 VS Vaelin:

Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

And one vs the Skeleton Vaelin conjured from his Robe]
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

Vaelin is killed by his own men!

5 VS Leopards:

Aman Leopard 1: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Aman Leopard 1: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Joareln Leopard 1: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

Vaelin Leopard 1: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

.

The Skeleton conjured from Vaelin's Robe:

Attacks the Soldier: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

Vaelin falls, unconscious and bleeding out from the soldiers charged with his protection.

.

Itch, the Adept's Familiar, still Invisible, takes his action and does not become visible.

.

Aman, seeing his opponent caught by a nasty arrow, redoubles his effort to kill the Arvanxi lord! He backs up a step and wields his deadly Glaive.

Aman vs Magnius: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24
Damage: 1d10 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10

Aman vs Magnius: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Damage: 1d10 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17

.

Joareln, seeing that Yaos is still mostly unhurt and her conjured creatures still complicate the battle, continues firing at point blank range, 25 feet away. He is deft enough with the bow that his shots do not provoke any attacks from the leopards attacking him.

Joareln vs Yaos: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (8) + 13 = 21
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9

.

Meanwhile, the leopard sent to investigate why Francesco Phandros has not emerged from his wagon springs back to the area, communicating to Yaos that no sounds penetrates the area around the wagon.

Round 3:

Aman .... continues attacking Magnius with his glaive
Joareln .... continues firing at Yaos
Yaos ....
Camabah
Manius Battori ....
Lord Magnius Arvanxi ....
Alfred Ensbridge ....

Yaos snarls as arrows and lightning bolts rip into her flesh. She then casts Invisibility and moves 10' away from Jaoreln. Her Leopards continue their assault.

Magnius, you got your flanking. And I sent you help cos you were taking a pounding. I have to go invisible before these arrows take me down.
