Halloran Westover |
When Halloran is preparing his spells for the day, he'll prepare detect magic, which he'll use on the items he appraised the night before.
Did anybody want any of this? he asks gesturing to the weapons and armor. If not we should probably load it on the horses.
Did Halloran regain any of his STR, after a night of rest?
Halloran Westover |
I'm not going to be arm wrestling anyone in the near future, but I can go on. However there is another matter we need to consider.
With this he points to Buckwell's corpse, Are we bringing our late companion with us? By my count it will take us at least 3 days to explore in the direction we were going in. And after 3 days he's going to start smelling a little "ripe", which will not only be unpleasant for us, but could also attract scavengers, or even predators.
Halloran shakes his head, As I see it we have two options, we can bury him here, or take him back to the fort for burial, anything else just won't work.
Asok Demon Tongue |
Asok frowns. "I don't much like the idea of hauling his corpse across the Greenbelt while we chase Mites. I say we go back to Oleg's to give the man a proper burial. Nothing else will do." he says angrily. "I hope you all will know I will do the same for you if it came to that."
Halloran Westover |
Big ones, Halloran adds to Elaine's statement, after he dismounts he continues, they grabbed me and Buckwell and dragged us into their layers, by the time our companions came to our rescue, we'd each been bitten several times. I barely survived, unfortunately Buckwell didn't and we decided to bring him back here to bury him.
Halloran looks at Alkaid and says, Not to appear callous, but I was wondering if you had anything to treat spider poison? I'm better than I was, but I'm still a trifle weak.

Asok Demon Tongue |
Asok climbs down from Brand and leads him to the stables, giving Happs a curious look. When he returns he attends to Buckwell's corpse, carrying him down and approaching Alkaid. "I hope you have rites to set him to rest so we can bury him in peace." the Half-Orc says solemnly.
Halloran Westover |
Thank you, Alkaid. Halloran says to her.
Turning to Happs, he repeats what he said to Alkaid, We were attacked by large spiders and they killed our gnomish companion, Buckwell.
To Elaine he says, You remember when you first came here, I mentioned capturing some bandits? Well, Happs here, he indicates him with a hand, is one of them. Alkaid has been working to convince him and his companions, that their are better ways to make a living, than stealing from other people.
Halloran Westover |
With Azure's permission I'm going to skip ahead a little.
After the funeral, during dinner Halloran will share the proceeds from the items he sold to Oleg with the rest of the party.
Check the discussion forum for how much everyone gets.
He will also break open a bottle from his stash, NOT Black Jack.
He'll try to get Bond's Booze, but if he can't tell them apart, he'll just pick one at random, provided it isn't black jack.
After he pours for everyone, Halloran raises his glass and says, To Buckwell, we didn't know him long, but we'll miss him forever.
Asok Demon Tongue |
Asok puts a hand on Alkaid's shoulder after the hymn, "Thank you. It was beautiful." he says. Later as they sit around the table, he raises his glass with the others to Buck's memory. "He came her like the rest of us, looking for a new start, and now he is planted in the soil of the land we hope to grow. His sacrifice is to make us all stronger."
Fort 1d20 ⇒ 8
Silstaren |
Fort Save 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Silstaren remains respectfully quiet throughout the memorial service.

Looking over Buckwell's goods, he spots the leather scroll case and it sparks an idea. "If none of you would consider it disrespectful, I would keep this in memory of Buckwell."
Mikka Restokov |
Mikka removes one of the copper pieces from Buckwell's pouch and pulls a knife from his pocket. He spends some time carving Buckwell's name and date of death in the coin on opposite sides, then punches a hole in the coin and wears it on a thong around his neck. He does this wordlessly, and afterwards seems relieved and more his usual boisterous self.
"So, once we've said our goodbyes, when do we head out again?"
