As Khalaban approaches the door, the floor becomes damper and damper, eventually leading into a 2-foot deep puddle of water before the door.
You can also tell that the door is stuck closed. It'll take a good yank to get it open.
Khalaban returned to the others. "I hear...Frogs? The door is stuck, and will require some percussive persuasion to open. Assuming that beyond contains monster frogs of some kind, or something that feeds on frogs perhaps, they will have ample warning."
Vixie’s face twists to a look of confusion. ”F... frogs?” she asks. ”O-okay.”. She adjusts her bill a little higher. To intercept a jumping frog, apparently.
Adriana sighs,"Why does it have to be frogs..." She mutters under her breath as she readies her sword.
Max keeps an eye on the other direction, in case something tries to creep up on the party while the door is being worked on.
"Whenever you're ready!"
“Frogs, eh?” Bertrand holsters his crossbow and pulls out his new Lesser Confusion wand. “This should be interesting.”
Khalaban nodded, and tried to force the door.
As the door creaked and groaned, Khalaban looked at the others. "A hand?"
"Just a second."
Adriana tries to help out...
Adriana steps in and gives the door a good yank, throwing it open.
The room is filled with water, deeper than the outside corridor. The chamber is in an advanced state of decay, with a gaping hole in the ceiling admitting a constant trickle of water. The three stone sarcophagi in this room are almost completely covered in a thick carpet of moss and fungus.
The water in the room is deep enough that Vixie & Maxilla will have to swim through it--everyone else can wade through it, with some difficulty.
Sitting atop one of the sarcophagi is an oversized frog with mottled red skin. It's eyes turn to look at the party.
Vixie sees a frog bigger than she is and her mind drifts... elsewhere. She’s blushing, a little.
Khalaban ran his eyes across the room, and took a deep breath. "A green one beneath the water and a blue by the door," he murmured to the others. He looked at the frogs. "I do not suppose you are able to be reasoned with?" he asked without much hope.
The frog responds with a *RIBBIT* before leaping at the party. There's a series of loud *SPLASHES* as the other two frogs make their presence known, hopping on the stone sarcophagi.
Adriana will hit the red frog with Fires of belief...
Adriana's fires scorch the frog, causing it to make a watery groan.
Vixie frowns a bit, doing her best to take in the situation. Noting that the sarcophagus between herself and the frog is above the waterline, she takes a step back, then runs past Adriana and Khalaban.
With a quick hop, she just barely clears the gap, and lashes forward with her bill at the red frog.
Khalaban waded through the water and took up position to stop the frogs advancing.
Vixie lands a blow on the frog, sending blood into the already brackish-looking water.
Bertrand steps into the room and aims the wand of Lesser Confusion at one of the frogs.
Max moves up with the party, still keeping an eye on the other passageway
A glowing ray of shifting colours emerges from the end of Bertrand's wand, striking the nearby frog squarely in the eye.
The green creature lets out a great *RIBBIT* and promptly bites down as hard as it can on its front leg.
The other two frogs leap at Khalaban & Vixie, their tongues shooting from their mouths!
Vixie nimbly dodges the tongue of a blue-coloured frog, but Khalaban gets a sticky tongue around his sword-arm. The frog starts trying to yank him into its mouth!
Vixie yells as the frog’s tongue latches on to Khalaban. Thinking uncharacteristically quickly, she lashes out at the sticky appendage!
”S-sorry!!!”
Vixie's bill slices off the frog's tongue--and a chunk of its jaw. The oversized amphibian croaks and falls into the water with a SPLASH.
Free, Khalaban nods to Vixie. "My thanks." He stepped towards the green one with a splash, and swung at it.
Khalaban's swing lands in the water, kicking up a massive spray.
Bertrand laughs jovially, firing another blast of the wand.
The ray strikes the frog in its eye. Its eyes spin wildly and it croaks.
Not seeing a good path through and not wishing to risk swimming in brackish waters of unknown security, Max holds tight for the moment.
Adriana seeing there is no room...will launch another Fires of Belief at the *Blue* Frog...
Adriana's fire strikes true, scorching the blue frog with a well-placed burst!
The green frog suddenly turns around and bites at the blue frog as well!
And in its bewildered state, bites at nothing but water. It rolls over onto its back and upright again with a loud SPLASH.
The blue frog's tongue lashes out at the nearest morsel--namely, Vixie.
And its tongue flies right over her head.
Adriana will do the same thing again...
Adriana's next gout of flame licks the frog, but doesn't do as much harm as last time.
Vixie shivers as the tongue sails overhead, and almost misses her opportunity to strike; nevertheless, she lashes out once more...
...but her mind is clearly elsewhere.
"I can't see anything! Are we winning? Is anyone hurt?" Max inquires.
"Well enough!" Khalaban replied, calling the earth to hand again. He just hoped he was right about that.
Vixie goes ahead and takes a step to the side, as well, to better reach the frogs.
This time, Khalaban's swing narrowly misses the frog.
Bertrand aims the wand once again at his favorite target.
The frog's eyes spin again, and it does nothing but CROAK loudly.
The blue frog tries to grab Vixie with its tongue again...
...and it ends up grabbing the confused frog instead.
Vixie giggles a little at the frogs' antics, then tries to lash out once more at the blue one.
Muttering about his lack of accuracy, Khalaban tries again.
Vixie's swing narrowly misses, but Khalaban's finally hits its mark. The confused frog CROAKS as the earthen club hits it between the eyes.
Bertrand fires another shot of confusion.
And once again, the frog's eyes go askew.
Adriana will move to the space behind Vixie and shoot another Fire of Belief at the Blue frog...
Adriana immolates the blue frog, cooking it and causing it to turn belly up in the water.
The green frog does nothing except *RIBBIT* constantly.
Yelling in cheer as Adriana left one from a slowly boiling mess, Khalaban crumped the offer. Or tried to.
Max attempts to move into the room and then begins flailing in a panic as the water goes over his head! I'ma gonna drown here. Everyone's going to laugh!
Maxilla sinks into the water up to his nose.
