Anja shrugs and continues up the stairs until Shan-yu insults the smiths' work. If these dwarves are like any that I've met, those are fighting words. She pauses and puts a hand on her ranseur before continuing.

You notice the dwarf continue to shout, but are very intrigued by the woman who seems to ignore them while continueing to climb. On of the scurries off behind some rocks.

Anja arrives at the top, near the offensive dwarfs. She looks around, and then looks down at what they're working on. "Hm. I always imagine smiths meticulously crafting the exquisite blades I use to kill people." She pulls out the Scornblade, and holds it in front of her, as if admiring the balance. "I guess someone has to make the pipes, too, though." She looks down her nose at the metal tubing on the anvil. "Good job.... I guess," she says, dismissively. She leans the flat of her blade on her shoulder, and looks again to the path ahead, waiting for the others to catch up.

Valeeran walked quietly along side his companions. Seemingly lost in thought about the tubes and other oddities around them he didn't even seem to notice the dwarves or their comments. Only when one scampered off did he acknowledges their presence. "So, pray tell, oh masters of smithing and word play what grand intellect is he off to get in such a hurry? Surly it must be a paragon of wisdom to rule over such keen wits as yourselves."

With the more vocal members of the group picking up the conversation, Shan-yu returns to his quiet contemplation of the world and its inhabitants.

As you are climbing to the top, you notice that the third dwarf, which has walked behind some huge boulders, seems to shout to the other two. Both of them walk away aswell, and as you are trying to figure out the point of all of that, you feel and hear a rumble.
At that same time, the large boulders starts rushing down, and you feel quite vulnerable against that much weight and speed.

Valeeran and Shan-yu, don't forget to edit your ministats to level 9 :)

Valeeran speaks a few brief arcane words while tracing invisible symbols in the air and suddenly leaves the ground behind him. As he rises he reaches out towards Anja.

Terry doesn't appear to notice Valeeran's shout over the rumbling of the boulders. Quickly, his head falls back on his neck as he embraces the revelations of the wind, growing two airy wings that sprout from his diminuitive shoulders. Casting Wings of Air.

He attempts to use them in his escape from being squished. Reflex: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23

While most of you take to the skies, the rocks and pebbles still hit you in various places as you try to ascend.

Meanwhile Shan-yu has his own way to deal with it, and finds a slightly overhanging rock that prevents him from being completely crushed. He finds however, that when the dust settles, he can no longer see his companions circling above him. He is buried alive beneath the avalanche!

Anja looks back when Valeeran calls her name, but, already in motion, she sticks with her instinct to follow the path of the dwarfs who know the mountain.

Anja wouldn't have taken the flight with Valeeran. Is she also engulfed in the rocks? Also, half damage rounds down or up?

Terry glances around him for signs of his friends. He smiles when he sees Anja flying with Valeeran, but can't find the monk anywhere. He cups his hands around his mouth and shouts, "SHAN-YU!"

Thinking quickly, Terry lands atop the pile of rubble and folds his airy wings behind his back as he concentrates. After a full 10 seconds of incanting and gestures, Terry casts Summon Monster II and conjures up a small Earth Elemental, whom he commands to flow through the rock to find his monk friend.

Earth Elementals can move through stone or rock as easily as a fish through water.

Nice thinking Terry

As he clears the worst of the avalanche a rock jumps up and catches him in the ribs. The blow is almost enough to send the wizard back to the ground but he manages to continue into the air.

After a few moments the rock slide seems to have stopped and he looks about for his companions. The cloud of dust and dirt kicked up by the falling stones makes it difficult at first but he soon sees Terry safe and heading back towards the ground.

Unable to locate Anja or Shan-yu he considers for a moment before swooping down to allow Skitter to hop off and sniff about. He then takes back to the air and casts detect magic to aid him in searching about the rubble.

Going to fly above the area using Detect Magic to try and locate any auras that would help indicate where his lost friends are.

Skitter searching w/scent (Perception): 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (3) + 12 = 15
Valeeran (Perception): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26

Unfortunately, you need ""tongues" to speak it. Comprehend languages only let's you understand him, not the other way around :(

As the rocks settle and Shan-yu finds himself buried and in the dark, he stays calm, knowing his allies will be looking for him. Rummaging through his pack, he crack open a sunrod and begins to examine his surroundings and look for perhaps a way up and out of the rockpile.

"That probably wasn't the smartest thing to do".

Anja feels where the flat edge of the Scornblade runs along her torso beneath her, after she shielded it from the tumbling rocks with her body and landed atop it. "Yeah. That could've been an effing disaster. 'Anja Grava, formerly of the Broken Oak Fellowes, who impaled herself on her own magic sword in some fruity effing dimension.'"

"Heh heh."

"Or, 'Anja Grava, who was so tough, the only person who could've killed her was herself.'"

"Ha ha ha!" She takes a deep breath after laughing at her predicament, and then tries to push herself up. When it doesn't work, she waits patiently, listening for the others' plan to pull her out.

Strength check: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17

"Terry, over here!" Valeeran calls out while indicating the probable locations of their wayward companions.

When he doesn't get an immediate response he looks over his shoulder to find Terry having difficulty trying to communicate with the elemental.

"Shame, it seemed such a clever idea." he says to himself before calling out words of power of his own. With the spell cast he begins lifting boulders and casting them to the side doing his best to remove and place them as to not cause any further shifting.

Casting Telekinesis which will allow him to move 225lbs/round for 9 rounds

T10 on K:Engineering to avoid issues with falling rocks = 20

Terry huffs in frustration as he bungles his plan. Damnit...stupid earth creatures and their gravelly tongues... before beckoning it to follow him over to where Valeeran calls. Once there, he makes exaggerated pantomime motions to gesture that the elemental should help lift rocks out of the way in this location, and begins hefting stuff as best he can with his tiny body. Mentally, he prepares his Lesser Restoration and Liberating Command spells, as well as...grimly...Stabilize, should it be necessary.

As the slightly confused earth elemental and Terry join forces, the telekinetic hand aids them. They start digging and moving rubble, and after three minutes they find a slight lightsource shining through the rubble. They intensify their efforts, and find the hand attached to it.

Unfortunately Anja, this STR check would be too much, even for you.

"C'mon. Don't want to have to ask for help." Anja lets her fury enhance her next attempt to shake off the rocks. Due to the awkward manner by which she's pinned, however, she's unable to get good leverage to push herself up. She lets the rage-fueled strength fade, and takes a deep breath, "I'm under here! I'm alright!"

Rage, strength surge: 1d20 + 7 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 + 7 = 21

"Heave faster, curse you!" Terry enjoins his earth elemental, hurling away rocks as fast as he can. If Terry hears Anja's shouts, he will point to his ear and then gesture that the earth elemental should go toward the sound. Hopefully that's a simple enough command that it gets through to this gravelhead.

Otherwise, Terry will sigh at the stupidity of such creatures and get back to heaving rocks.

As Anja is starting to push the boulders, you see a small rock slide down the hill. Valeeran sees this immediately as Skitter runs to it.

Alright, I have one more trick up my sleeve before it's back to...shudder...manual labor.

Terry positions himself alongside the boulders that he thinks are the ones on top of Anja. There is a faint breeze that everyone who is on the surface can feel as he gathers his power.

Terry lowers his gaze to the ground, murmuring prayers endlessly under his breath with his eyes closed. He gestures with one hand, and the wind obeys, whirling around it and whipping his clothing around him.

His eyes open wide, revealing a greenish white glow. Calling out Gozreh's holy name, Terry casts his most powerful revelation spell: River of Wind.

Wind immediately gusts toward the boulders before Terry in a constant gale, following the throwing gesture of his arm and slamming hard against the stone. What Terry hopes will happen is that the force of the spell will push the boulders aside, so they can roll off of Anja. Up to you if that works, DM.

If Valeeran is airborne, he might have to make a Fly check to stay aloft in the windstorm...sorry...

I'm powerful enough for almost a full minute of gusting. 9 (rounds per level) x 6 (seconds per round) = 54 seconds.

From what I can tell in messageboard searches, a strong case is made that DR only applies against attacks, so something like falling damage or, presumably, boulders crushing you would still apply. Although, I would think that someone dropping a boulder on you would trigger DR. I reconcile the logic (for myself) being something like, 'barbarians know combat, so they know how to avoid the damage, whether someone's throwing something at them, swinging something at them, dropping something on them... but barbarians don't know falling.' So, basically, rather than imagining it as thick skin reducing damage, I'm wondering if it's more like a barbarian's dodge - you don't move yourself out of the way of the blade; just your kidney, thus less damage. :)

I'm ruling that the larger stones will be moved by the wind, but the smaller ones aren't. Of course, those are really the problem. :)

As Terry summons the winds of Gozreh, he notices they smell differently here than they do in Mithurdane.
As Valeeran races to touch down so as not to get caught in the river of wind, everyone can see the larger boulders starting to run down the hill. After a minute, the wind stops, but a lot of work has been done.

I'll assume you continue digging after this.

Anja will hear the wind, and then people cursing as the rubble moves above her, and she puts her shoulders against it. After 2 minutes she notices a small Skitter nibbling on her ear.

Skitter: "Almost there, hang on."

2d4 + 1 ⇒ (1, 3) + 1 = 5
Non-lethal DMG Anja: 5d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 2, 1, 5) = 16

With no magical method to dig through the dirt, Shan-yu resorts to more classical methods and works with Terry. He pay special attention not to stand over where they think Anjali might be located, lest his weight cause further collapse.

You hear giggling from above after the last rock stumbles to a halt, and see three familiar faces run away into the mountain.
