800 Dragon Break (Inactive)

Game Master GamerAim

In an 1800s-themed fantasy world that's forgotten its roots, you hunt undead, aberrations, monsters of all sorts. The public has to be kept in the dark, but whether under contract or going by your gut, you do everything in your power to keep them safe - whether they know it or not.

Hat-Trick: Mostly, but considered early for misfires (as you'll see in the stats). Unless I'm forgetting a previous ruling I made in this thread?

I believe Lalavonvrei "Lala" Longstrider is ready for critique. He's a Musket Master Gunslinger. I believe the rules for "Guns Everywhere" means Gunslingers get their Gun Training 1 (or in this case, Musket Training) at level one and therefore Gun (Musket) Training 2 at level five?

Hat-Trick: Yes, gun training 1 at level 1 and gun training 2 at level 5 :) Guns, guns guns!

NOTICE
Could everyone please make a post in the discussion thread as your character alias (after you've made a character, if you've yet to) with your character's name, race, class (all, including archetypes) and alignment, as well as how often you think you can post (assuming you aren't waiting on other people to post), if you're open to using Unchained rules, and your familiarity with Supernatural, the Witcher and the X-Files? It'll help for optimizing the selection for each table.

One post each, please! Keep all discussion/questions either here or in PM. If you think something else is important to add in your post, include it in a spoiler. Thank you.

Why:
I've seen like 20 people interested and can run two groups of 6 at most, so it'd help to have a neat list with all the relevant info on each player and character. It'll also help combine players with compatible characters, rules openness and media familiarity.

working out the Dusk elf, but all seems good GM

don't count me out, i've been slammed at work this week but i have a 4-day weekend coming up with all the time i need to create and post.

that said, i don't have a name or alias yet so i will forego the discussion post until then.

Tenro: I'm looking for 8-12 people (4-6 per "table"), and only have 3 PCs so far (that are all made, that is), so you're good :) Of course, if it turns out far fewer people than rolled ability scores actually make characters, I'll only run one table.

I may have missed it but I haven't seen you set a solid deadline. Maybe you'll get more concrete submissions if you say "by Friday night" or whatever.

Cool! I had an idea for this that I thought would fit really neatly. The idea is to create some type of Diviner who uses very subtle magics to know more then he should, and then try and pass it off as intuition or simply reading small clues.
Basically I think it would be fun to play a diviner in a monster hunting world. It would also be fun to have to play a "secret caster" in a world where I have to hunt other casters, I honestly have no idea how well/long I could keep it up but commonplace guns would give me good "cover." I also imagine that the Agency knows of at least some of his powers, but he would guard them jealously.

I'm looking for 2-4 players for a campaign that (at least in the beginning) will feature little-to-no combat (based largely on player choice). If anyone leaves/disappears, it's easy enough to introduce a new hunter, anyway. The first adventure is investigation-focused (RP and skill checks) and I feel a good fit for PbP. I'd recommend knowledge and charisma skills, and the party should have a horse and buggy as well.

I get the feeling that this kind of idea will fit this kind senario well.

The other aspect I am thinking of is that of a teacher (in one of those "schools") during the day but Supernatural Investigator at night trope. (And during the day/extended absences, if sufficent notice and paperwork is given to the headmaster)
The point is that he has his day job, and he has his "real job" that he works on the side, but hes not particularly secretive about it. His students know of some of his work, and many brush it off as fantastical rumors that cant opssibly be true but he does have an agreement with the headmaster about being able to take the time off as needed in exchange for some tidbits of information and teaching the students.

As for class/race and whatnot, I am thinking of either a lore oracle or some kind of spherecaster. Human male but I am unsure beyond that. I will probably take a gun proficency feat and the spell bluffing feats if I can remember what they are :p
Mostly I need to do more reading to figure out how I could build him first!

Dice:

4d6 - 1 ⇒ (3, 4, 1, 4) - 1 = 11
4d6 - 3 ⇒ (3, 4, 5, 3) - 3 = 12
4d6 - 2 ⇒ (6, 4, 2, 4) - 2 = 14
4d6 - 2 ⇒ (6, 2, 4, 4) - 2 = 14
4d6 - 1 ⇒ (3, 3, 6, 1) - 1 = 12
4d6 - 1 ⇒ (4, 6, 4, 1) - 1 = 14

14, 14, 14, 12, 12, 11 XD
At least I am continuing with the "Everyone Rolls Poorly" theme going on in this thread. Actually, my 19pb is not bad compared to some, Im just... really well rounded ^_^

Oops. I didnt see this :P

Ah, oh well consider this as me expressing my intrest, besides, I had to roll stats!

GM Panic here,
this is the alt I have been working on.

Full Name Lady Alyln De-La-Qill
Race Duck Elf [Native]
Classes/Levels Investigator

The core idea is she is a noble who works for the Church as an Investigator into strange things. Think Fantasy X-Files, she is used to the Church placing a team on and investigation. She is middle aged so been around. Her job is to look into strange reports or events.

Duck elf *Snickers*

Rats!! Dusk elf, DUSK elf, ya wee auto speller you.

Full Name Lady Alyln De-La-Qill
Race Dusk Elf [Native]
Classes/Levels Investigator [Steel hound]

Alyln: Looks good, but unsure about the 10 min backstory. The setting has no gnomes, and I'm unsure what you mean about your body being "manufactured" or having a previous soul. Also, I assume the two traits are in place of a feat (a feat is missing from your list), right?

NOTICE
Starting to get some characters in, so I am closing recruitment to people who haven't posted here or PMed me. Those who already have can still submit characters, but no one new for now. Thank you.

Ill run over her again, seems I missed some old legacy content from an old build GM

Been updated with feat in place and correct background.

Lady Alyln De-La-Qill Image here

Loup Blanc here with my submission, crunch and background in the profile. I figured the 10-Minute method was a good one, since I wasn't sure how much you wanted. Let me know if you have any questions and/or if I should post in Discussion!

Dose anyone mind me linking to them in my pcsbackground

Alyln: Everything seems to be in order :)
Leon/Loup: Everything seems to be in order. Go ahead and post in the discussion :)
Lala/Hat-Trick: Could you link to your Mythweavers sheet on your alias profile page? It'd be more convenient that way :)

NOTICE
With Leon, that makes 6 PCs so far, and Tenro and Ashe should have theirs done soon (Ashe said sometime Monday, and Tenro suggested it'd be soon), so the cutoff for submissions is when I get theirs! If anyone else is interested in playing, get your submissions in before then! If it works for everyone, I'd like to start within one week from today.

I am still not sure who is going in which group. There's so many backstories! Racine was raised from youth by some freelance hunters, Thomas is an ex-con practically sentenced to indentured servitude in exchange for his eventual freedom (if I'm reading that correctly), IDK what Lala's and Minerva's deal is, and Alyln and Leon work for two different religious sects. Ashe and Tenro aside, I'm having a tough time trying to figure out how all these different people ended up together :P I might just leave that to be decided later :)

Yeah I left things a bit vague for that specific reason. I didn't want to get super detailed about things just to rewrite it once I knew who I'd be playing with.

Link is in the profile now. I had a nice long biography for him in the works too, but Paizo eated it so I settled for the cliff notes version.

I'm working on mine today and hope to have it done within a handful of hours.

I left the final phases of Racine's backstory open to help you hook her into the adventure, if you'd like I can tweak. For example, she may still be working in the police, or have found some sort of underground hunter group, or perhaps even be hunting and working, vigilante-style.

Racine: Your backstory looks fine: sewer kid turned arcane gunslinger/monster hunter turned cop turned hunter again looking for new partners.

I'm thinking Racine, Lala, Minerva in a group of freelancers who've known each other for an unspecified amount of time (a few years, at least). And Alyln, Leon, Thomas are part of a cooperation between the government and some religious sects, and this is their first assignment together. I'll have to figure out where Ashe and Tenro's characters fit in and adjust accordingly, but I was just letting everyone know what I was thinking.

Well, for your consideration, my character will be coming from a monastery of some sort. in addition to adherents being required to attain a minimum amount of physical excellence, they also are steeped in old lore. The spirits of those who have passed tend to remain on the grounds to assist adherents, though that would not be widely known, or if known would not be widely believed. some adherents focus more on the physical, some more on the educational, and some strike a balance. As for his history, he will gladly have worked with monster hunting organizations to combat the supernatural.

i'm getting a lot of my flavor from Shannara-related things. druids, paranor, etc

Tenro: Sounds good. I look forward to seeing the finished character :)

Do you have a problem with us designing our own weapons, using the Rules on the PFSRD Weapons page (Design Points and all that)?

I'll take the Craft Weapons skill to reflect.

I'm mostly doing it because my character is slightly MAD, and I can't afford both DEX and STR, so I need two Monk weapons with Finesse to cover all options (range, melee, etc).

Tenro: Sure, go ahead :)

This seems neat. Do I still have a bit of time to put together a submission? I can do so in an hour or two.

Also, might not get character done tonight, my IRL game is starting early but i will DEFINITELY be done before Monday (the quoted time of the other player we are waiting on).

Also are there any roles in specific you are lacking submissions for? I don't mind filling a niche.

Also I didn't quite catch this in the initial post are we using traits?

Finally are there any Supernatural fans interested in some character links to get a Winchester brothers vibe going on? :)

@GamerAim, what do you think of these weapons?

The Dragon's Paw is a gauntlet that is strapped to the hand and up the arm, though its fine design allows for full range of motion. It actually resembles armor, in that the upper portion is covered in interlocking plates fashioned of sharpened blades. On the lower portion, blades protrude forth, even more pronounced near the hand, where three blades up to a foot long protrude like the claws of the ancient dragons of lore.

Dmg (M) 1d6; Critical ×2; Type (S); Finesse, Monk, Shield (-1 ACP); Price 38gp

Dragon's Paw:
Weapon Creation: Dragon's Paw: 10 DP total
Exotic: 6DP
Dmg (M) 1d6; Critical ×2; Type (S); Price 30gp + (1 gp × the weapon's base DP(8)).
Fighter Weapon Group: Monk
Hands: 1-handed (+2 DP)
Qualities: (8 DP before these qualities)
+2 DP Additional Design Points (0 DP)(+2 DP): Increase the weapon's available Design Points by 1 and its gp price by 15. This quality can be selected twice for one-handed weapons and ranged weapons, or three times for two-handed weapons.
-3 DP Attached (3 DP): The weapon is attached to the wielder's arm and cannot be disarmed. The wielder can wield or carry items in the hand to which this weapon is attached, but she takes a –2 penalty on all precision-based tasks involving that hand (such as opening locks). This penalty can be removed by increasing this quality's cost to 3 DP.
-3 DP Finesse (3 DP): The weapon can be used with Weapon Finesse as if it were a light weapon. Only one-handed and exotic melee weapons can have this quality.
-2 DP Improved Damage (1 DP)(x2): Increase the weapon's damage dice by one step (1d3 to 1d4, 1d4 to 1d6, 1d6 to 1d8 or 2d4, 1d8 to 1d10, or 1d10 to 2d6 or 1d12). This quality can be selected three times for light weapons, four times for one-handed weapons and ranged weapons, and five times for two-handed weapons. Among weapons sized for Medium characters, the maximum damage is 1d6 for light weapons, 1d8 for one-handed weapons (1d10 if exotic), 1d12 or 2d6 for two-handed weapons, and 1d10 for ranged weapons (1d6 if used or thrown one-handed).
-1 DP Weapon Feature (Varies)(Monk, 1 DP): Choose one of the following weapon special features for the weapon: blocking, brace, deadly, disarm, distracting, grapple, monk, nonlethal, performance, reach, or trip. This quality can be selected twice for martial weapons and three times for exotic weapons. It costs 1 DP the first time it is selected, 3 DP the second time, and 4 DP the third time.
-1 DP Shield (1 DP): The weapon counts as a light shield made of wood or metal and can have armor spikes (your choice). Add the gp price of the shield and any armor spikes that the weapon gains from this quality to the weapon's gp price. This quality can be added only to one-handed melee weapons.

The Manticore's Tail is a strange weapon indeed, resembling a thick quarterstaff with a small but wickedly-barbed spike on one end. In the hands of an experienced user, however, it becomes an altogether different weapon. A small trigger can be squeezed to cause the spiked head to detach, and it is connected to 30 feet of rope (though some variants use silk rope or mithral chain). Depressing the trigger at the right time while swinging the weapon will fling the spiked head at an enemy within the 30ft range of the weapon. If the wielder is lucky, the force of the throw will bury the head into the flesh of an enemy while the barbs keep it in place, grappling the enemy.

Dmg (M) 1d2; Critical 17-20/×2; Type (P); Range 30ft; Fragile, Monk, Grapple; Price 54gp

Manticore's Tail:

Weapon Creation: Manticore's Tail, 14 DP total
Exotic: 6DP
Dmg (M) 1d2; Critical 17-20/×2; Type (P); Price 45gp +(1 gp × the weapon's base DP (9).)
Fighter Weapon Group: Monk
Hands: 2-handed (+3 DP) Thrown (30ft range increment, max 30ft)
Qualities: (9 DP before these qualities)
+3 DP Additional Design Points (0 DP)(+3 DP): Increase the weapon's available Design Points by 1 and its gp price by 15. This quality can be selected twice for one-handed weapons and ranged weapons, or three times for two-handed weapons.
+1 DP Fragile (–1 DP): The weapon gains the fragile special weapon feature.
+1 DP Lesser Damage (–1 DP): Reduce the weapon's damage by one step (1d3 to 1d2). A weapon cannot have the improved damage quality and this quality simultaneously.
-10DP Improved Critical Threat Range (Varies): Increase the weapon's critical threat range by 1. This quality can be selected twice. It costs 3 DP the first time it is selected and 7 DP the second.
-3 DP Weapon Feature (Varies)(Grapple, 3 DP): Choose one of the following weapon special features for the weapon: blocking, brace, deadly, disarm, distracting, grapple, monk, nonlethal, performance, reach, or trip. This quality can be selected twice for martial weapons and three times for exotic weapons. It costs 1 DP the first time it is selected, 3 DP the second time, and 4 DP the third time.

Lady Alyln De-La-Qill is 100% Pullmans Magisterium from his "dark materials" books. The department of the Church/s that oversee trying to control or own the forces that would wreak havoc on the world.

GM us is LN but she is not evil just has to sometimes do things to keep the world safe that sometimes means making that hard call. She is also old, as and elf she has been around a long time. I think the Magisterium would have files on most of the the PCs. As they are active fighting the very things the Magisterium seeks to control or out right stop.

Cool stuff!
I should also probably roll my stats...
Stat: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 5, 4) = 19 15
Stat: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 4, 6) = 16 15
Stat: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 3, 1) = 9 8
Stat: 4d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 6, 6) = 19 17
Stat: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 1, 2) = 11 10
Stat: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 3, 2) = 11 9

Interesting array...I'll take it!

The Exchange

I look forward to seeing this game

Tenro: The weapons look good.

Alyln: Is that your way of saying your character/organization would never agree to work with others? Or are you just providing background?

It's kind of funny, actually, as I noticed a sort of opposites theme (Thomas-Racine, Leon-Lala, Alyln-Minerva) and couldn't help but think of the Justice League of America (New 52, at least) and that the League of Extraordinary Operations (a.k.a. Supernatural Society of Cedrana) was the Cedranan government's own solution to both the supernatural threat and the freelance hunters. The Magisterium or whatever would benefit from this, because they'd gain intel from other groups as well as government funding and oversight. Is that acceptable, Alyln, or am I reading the situation wrong?

So as the sorcerer with obscene social skills does that make me John Constantine? :D

I think that makes Lala the Allen Quartermain?

Yep my thinking is its very much like The league of extraordinary gentlemen in setup. With an uneasy relationship between state group/s seeking to keep a lid on supernatural events and powers, so as to keep the peace and the powers that be in the form of the Magisterium. An organisation that needs freelance specialists [The PCs] with expertise and experience of such destabilizing forces to head up actions dealing with such things. So the Magisterium would very much work with others, so long as they did not become a problem for the Faiths and vested interests who fund and gives power/s to the Magisterium.

It's all about keeping a lid on things that only a few know about.
Very X-files smoking man kind of thing, with even my PC not really having a true idea of the bigger Magisterium picture. [That's your area as GM :)]

All this is then really all background and there would be other groups and individuals as players in this great game. So making for a fun setup and mix.

I can envisage a meeting where Her ladyship shows up and requests the helps of freelances, and they being very wary of her knowing full well who she works for. Some may have worked for her/others from the Magisterium before and know what can or dose happen when the seeks to 'Sanitize' a extraordinary 'situation'.

A short story showing what I mean:

The freelances where waiting at the gate to the small cottage when she arrived up the long winding woodland path. She had come from the village where where she had meet the constable and talked over the events of late. They can all come by couch the day before but where she has taken a small room in the village in. The freelances had taken to the farms and hills seeking to uncover what had happened here. One of had sent word they had found the root of the problem and would wait for her to come. That problem was not a nice one. In the last six mouths four children had gone missing from this one little hamlet. The villages had blamed it woodland wolves, bit after the forth was taken from a locked bedroom, the Magisterium was informed by the local load whose land this was. So it was that she can made contact with her most trusted agents, individuals who had the skills needed to deal with extraordinary situations. People who know not to flash such talents as they had in-front or Normal's. They also shared with her a deep loathing for those that sort to being back things that would do nothing but harm to the world. This being very much one such time. She make up to them and one, walked up holding a bundle in a bed sheet.

"We found the nest, five of them, three adults and two pups. Fully possess. We cleared it out and disposed of the remains, when we searched the warren we found this."

He showed it to her, she looked away in disgust, the looked up the short garden path to the cottage door.

"This is the root, old woman, makes the odd Tonic drink for the locals. We had a look around. She is off foraging but its all in there. All that was needed. She will be back soon, back door."

Once more this got a nod from her and she spoke.

"Take up positions lets greet her when she dose"

They walked up to the cottage and entered. She looked around.
This place looked normal, but she know better, the signs where there.
She took a seat and waited. She did not have to wait long.
Foot steps then a wolf come in from the back followed by the hag.
She stopped in her tracks seeing them there. She looked at the old woman,
Standing she placed the bundle in rags on the table, it was what was left of a child. She looked at the old woman standing there. She know at once.

The wolf attack 1st, jumping it was dead before it landed, arrows and flame hitting it. The old hag started to mutter and change, growing lang claws. The lady pulled her gun and taking aim fired once into the hags chest. Seeming to do little damage, the hag started to cackle then stopped as from the bullet hole flame sprang. Engulfing her half-wolf like form.

The other then rained pain down on her, in short order she was a burning mass on the floor.

She rolled up the remains of the dead child and took is as they left.

To her group she said.

"Burn it all down, leave nothing. I will go and tell the village it was a pack of wolves, that have been dealt with. We meet at the couch pick up tonight. I want to think you for a task well done. Payment will be in full." With that she headed off to give the bad news to the village.

I have not used PC names but you get the idea, all in a days work of covering up what is going on in events like this.

I see my PC as Meanna Harker with a little M etc.

My character is coming along nicely, but I've been busy lately, so it's not quite ready. I think you'll like him, though.

Thomas:
Constantine was Justice League Dark, not JLA, IIRC. But yes, you can be Constantine :D

Alyln: Sounds good :) I do have some...ideas for fleshing things out behind the scenes >:D

Newb: If you and Circadian get finished characters to me by Monday or Tuesday, I can most likely fit you in before we start :)

Cool GM, it was just a basic idea of the way I see her in the world.
But the world is always a big place. I also like Hell-Boy a lot and the back story for him is cool as..

Could I ask GM, whats your time table of starting tables?

I presume you're asking when I intend to start each respective group's game table? I was hoping (unless anyone had objections, which I thought no one did since I thought I already said this before, but I guess I didn't) to start it some time between Monday and Thursday. Vague, I know, but Tenro and Ashe should have characters ready by Tuesday, and I plan to make the first posts ASAP. I should be good to start them both at the same time. If I get them both on Monday, I should be able to start Tuesday, unless anyone needs me to push the date back. I do understand it is a bit sudden since I only opened recruitment a week ago, so let me know if I'm moving too fast.

DM, my crunch and background should get finished tonight, I'll PM you a link to the alias in a bit.

Cool :o) GM sorry if that came over rudely or I list that on back posts. For myself I'm really getting into this one. Which is nice to have a goodd vibe on a game from the get go. I really like your game idea and set up. :)

So I think we can consider the discussion of table starting timetables tabled.

Alyln: It's cool, I wasn't offended or anything. I hope everyone enjoys the game. I too am excited, largely due to player ideas :)

Well in that case :)

Reporting:

She sat in a darkened room, around her higher up where hooded figures. Just six, always six, they sat behind grills, grills that distorted their voices. Such it was with the Magisterium they liked secrecy, ecclesiastically the local counsel where all members of churches and faiths, one maybe two would be local nobility as well. They had been vetted and picked she had no doubt. This is was with regional Magisterium enclaves. All unknown to her as she would be to them. For she had on a mask that did likewise as the grills, her own layer of secrecy. Such it was with the Magisterium.

"Report"
Came a distorted voice from one of the local counsel.

Her own altered voice replayed.

"Myself and fellow vetted freelance agents of the Magisterium reserved a report of missing children. We at once departed to investigate. On arrival we discovered an infestation of lycanthrope localized to a single family and unknown to the local population. This was dealt with, with extreme prejudice. All Evidence eradicated with in the lair and outside. The locals where informed that a pack of wild wolves where responsible for the deaths of the Children. A recovered child's body was used as support for this. This body was later incinerated. They where told this pack had been dealt with. This was believed and so I recommend monitoring for the next few full moons, other than that it seems to have been contained."

There was mutters form the counsel they seem happy with the course of actions taken.

She spoke out once more, the counsel feel silent,

"There was one complication. Associated with this infestation we discovered a local hag, one that used a wolf as a pet. We inspected her premises and discovered items pertaining to witchcraft of the most darkest kind. Its seems she had been attempting to gain knowledge of necromancy"

Now the counsel showed more interest.

"Was she working alone?"

"That is hard to tell, I doubt it, but we could find nothing that would link her to others." She answered

"How did you deal with this"

"We killed her and her pet, then burned her property to the ground. Old lady and a miss tended cooking fire, sad, tragic and nothing left to see." She shot back.
"All items of interest have been dispatched to the Magisterium volts for study. Again nothing left to see and the situation sanitized."

More muttering from the counsel, then

"Thank you Operative Q, we agree on your course of action and your recommendations will be taken."

She stood, her work done, walking out the building she went a short way before taking off her mask. Well that done she had a few days, for relaxation. A bath house and some drink, best tell the others. So she set of to see what this smaller city had to offer.

GM I take it the open use of magic in public is frowned upon in public, things have to done discreetly or trouble could follow?
