All right!
Time for another question :P
Would you mind if I used the Heirloom Weapon trait to gain proficiency with one of the seven swords?
Although probably not passed down trough generations, the flavour of "really important sword passed into your care" fits. Also, mechanically, it helps a bit when one is building a non-sword proficient class.
Edit: Also; what ethnicities and languages can we expect to come across?
As for languages, common is spoken by the civilised population of the entire (quite large) island. The language of the mainland is called Tian, although it won't be relevant to this adventure, unless you manage to *really* derail it.
Other applicable languages include Goblonoid (unconquered goblin communities exist as 'mountain-people' in the regions that humans shunned or otherwise left alone), Draconic, Celestial, Sylvan or Abyssal, which are used in religious or arcane texts to various degrees.
Using the Heirloom trait for proficiency is fine.
@jerrys, I really like the concept you laid out.

It would generally be a good idea to pick up a rank in Ride or two. Goes for all of you - being able to take the 'guide with kness' action without having to roll (it's a DC 5 check) will probably be handy, as a lot of this game will be time-restricted travelling, and encounters will occur on the road.
You'll also recieve a free heavy warhorse (or other suitable mount for a halfling) as part of your starting gear.

Mysterious Character |

Free pony yey!
Also a point in Ride might be helpful yeah. It's even a class skill for Shamans and with an okay Dex it shouldn't be a problem.
ps - This is Lessah's temporary application alias. I'll make a real one if chosen : )
(Though the application is only about halfway done, I thought I'd drop by in case anyone wanted a look!)
Edit: Future plans! I'm thinking of the Toppling Spell metamagic at 3 and the Spiritual Guardian at 5 for some good Spiritual Weapon tripping action : )

Nidashi Omo |

This is the alias for G-Units submission: Nidashi Omo. I am still working on the background and build but he will be a human Occultist/Harbinger. Here is some info on his appearance (I always start with this for some reason) and his Katana Sorrow.
Menacing in appearance the Katana Sorrow is as long as a tall man’s arm with a slightly curved, slender, single-edged blade the color of smoke. Along the length of the flat of the blade three runes are etched in an ancient tongue. The Katana has a squared guard and long bronze and black glazed grip to accommodate two hands with a blood red gem shaped like a tear protruding from the grip.
Like most weapons Sorrow has one purpose; to kill. In this task it has excelled over the past millennia leaving a host of dead in its wake. Sorrow was created in the dawn of time and legend holds that is was gifted to the General Yoshidomo Kawari by the Gods.
Also, I would like to take the alternate human racial trait Military Tradition.
Several human cultures raise all children (or all children of a certain social class) to serve in the military or defend themselves with force of arms. They gain proficiency with up to two martial or exotic weapons appropriate to their culture. This racial trait replaces the bonus feat trait. Source PCS:ISR
I would like to chose the Katana and Wakizashi (if allowed 2).

G-unit |

Does anyone have an opinion on the Battle Host Occultist Archetype? I am torn about giving up and implement.

Lessah |

That archetype looks decent. You will only get half as many implements as an normal occultist, but the other perks (especially the level 6 one!) seems to make up for it.
Though only having two schools of magic hurts a bit, Occultists doesn't have that many spells per day anyhow. Just make sure you pick nice schools with both usable spells and Focus/Resonant powers!
On the other hand, it is really *only* the level six and five powers that are something above a normal Occultist. The weapon proficiencies aren't that much - and you can always just use a single feat or a trait and get whatever weapon you really want. Same with armour. In E6, you'll have enough feats anyway eventually :P
I'm going to give it 2.5 tomatoes out of 5.

Military Tradition: wrote:Several human cultures raise all children (or all children of a certain...
This is allowed, especially as it is those two in particular - they sort of go together.
@G-unit, I don't know enough about occultists to weigh on with anything useful here, I'm sorry to say.

Okay, its still rough but I wanted to get a submission up before it was too late:
Peasant Yangsheda grew up toiling in the fields beside his brothers and sisters where her grew up strong and happy. Possessed of a thirsty mind and wandering spirit, he balked at the idea of a lifetime of growing turnips and rice, and so when the local lord came recruiting soldiers, Yangsheda was the first to step forward.
As a young man Swordsman Yangsheda was too smart for his own good. While he was as skilled as any of the other conscript-soldiers but his sharp wit and laughing tongue saw him into much trouble with peers and officers alike. After an ill-considered incident involving a bottle of brewed reek and General Li’s saki, the disgraced Yangsheda found himself riding a pack mule to one of the frontier monasteries to begin his new life as a monk.
Accolyte Yangsheda took to his new role better than most expected. Philosophy and alchemy engaged his keen mind more than farming or soldiery ever had. It was during this chapter of his life that he learned of the prophecy of the sword of kings. His curiosity and wanderlust rekindled, he left the cloisters and libraries of the monastery and set out in search of the sword of kings.
After much searching and many adventures Yangsheda found the Seven Swordsmen, and was instrumental in foiling a plot to steal the sword, though the conlfict feft one of their members dead and Yangsheda gravely wounded. The remaining swordsmen saw the value in Yangsheda’s contribution and methodolgy and offered him a place in their order, presenting him with the slender blade Heaven’s Eyes.
And so for twenty years Scholar Yangsheda has been the archivist and teacher of the Seven Swordsmen, protecting the Sword of Kings with his intellect. His relentless pursuit of information has kept the group ahead of their enemies for decades. His network of contacts and informants let the Swordsmen come swooping down on potential thieves before their plots were even fully formed, and seemingly fade from existence before enemies can respond. Now in his fifties, Scholar Yangsheda sits his condsiderable girth upon his steed and rides into the field once more, deeply shamed by the sword’s recent theft.
A narrow Jian with glyphs of secrets kept and truths discovered carved up and down its length, it is said no man can hide his true self under the the reflection of Heaven’s Eye.
Suggested powers: Inspired sword-cane with powers to detect various things like magic, alignment, invisibility etc. I like the visual of planting the sword in the ground and setting up zone effects like alarm. Or abilities drawn from oracle’s revelations/domains/ schools of knowledge, lore, glyphs etc.
Feedback welcome, especially around crunch, and suggestions for special material for his sword.

GM Burnscar |

All right - I count seven partial sheets. Let's say that people have until wednesday next week to get their stuff done, and people who haven't submitted yet will have to do so in that timeframe. If I end up with more than seven complete characters, we'll do that thing where I pick the seven I like the most.

Mysterious Character |

Oh. If you click on the profile for Mysterious Character and look just beneath the "Sakiko, Halfling Shrine Maiden" part you'll find a series of spoilers containing the stuff like backstory and character sheet.
I have stopped making new aliases for applications until I'm picked to avoid cluttering up my profile section more then it already is : P

Appearance:
Kiyoshi stands just shy of six feet tall with a lithe, muscular form that showcases strength, endurance, and agility. His hair is a shaggy, messy black mop upon his head with tired, lackadaisical eyes. Hardened from years of training, his body carries numerous, small scars from blades, fangs, and claws. He usually is wearing a dark set of four-mirrored armor that is colored a mixture of black with gold accenting. His weapon, Peacebringer, is a large, black uchigatana that seems almost pitted and damaged. Upon looking upon it, the weapon is made of adamantine and the jagged markings and markings are purposeful upon the intricate blade.
History:
Kiyoshi was born within a small village on the edge of the Ninth Province. The Masa Clan, once nobles of the Divine Emperor, rebelled and fought against the Empire during the war to subjugate the Devilblooded neighbors that they have come to know and trust. For their betrayal, only the children were spared from execution and the Masa Clan was ousted from power and shamed. Living their lives as peasants amongst the ruined villages within the Ninth Province, the Masa name had become synonymous with dishonor.
Kiyoshi was raised alongside the Devilblooded, a few having even became his cousin. The lords looked down upon his kin and kindred and, despite his family’s repentant nature, vented their callous nature upon them. When he came across his sister being attacked by the lord’s children, he leapt in without thinking and fought them off. Despite saving his sister from other possible savage acts, he had placed himself in the crosshairs of the local lord.
When the Lord’s men came, they dragged Kiyoshi out of his home and in front of the Lord’s eldest son. When he demanded that Kiyoshi apologize, the young boy refused. When he cracked over the back of his neck with his sheathed blade, the boy still refused. They beat him in front of the village, who begged the stubborn boy to just apologize and swallow his pride. When they believed the boy beaten down and turned to leave, there was a stinging pain upon the samurai’s ankle. Kiyoshi had stood and grabbed a piece of bamboo before striking the man with a fierce and defiant look in his eyes.
Kiyoshi shouted that the man was not worthy of the title of lord or of samurai, that he had failed in his duty, and that he would never bend a knee to the cowardice of a tyrant. When the samurai came and struck with speed, drawing his blade with a look of hatred in his eyes, his blade shattered upon the edge of the uchigatana that intercepted the man’s attack. A quick skirmish was had, the samurai’s weapons being shattered followed by their side-weapons, before their broken armor fell from their bruised and battered bodies. The man introduced himself as Soft-Voiced Tsutomo, one of the legendary swordsmen. His attention brought a change in regime, a kinder and softer noble family taking control of their small province.
Kiyoshi was offered a chance to change his station in life and was taken in by the quiet swordsman. Years of training passed until Tsutomo finally felt his student was ready to wield the legendary blade known as Peacebringer. Retiring to live the life as a peaceful hermit, Kiyoshi has spent the last few years travelling the lands and helping bring justice and peace to the oppressed and desperate.
Personality:
Kiyoshi is a friendly sort, known for his laissez-faire attitude and his constant ability to find the silver lining in a situation. He prefers to nap wherever he can, preferably after a good cup of sake and with a woman beside him in bed. However, when combat starts, his demeanor shifts and he wears the mask of the jeering oni designed for him by his best friend from his home village. His almost baby-face demeanor fades away and is replaced with a fierce determination.
Kiyoshi loves to chat about nothing at all, finding cheap meals wherever he can get them (preferably with someone else paying for him), and daydream underneath the clouds in a nice field. Injustice and tyranny will erode that carefree demeanor and push him to satisfy his need to bring justice to the wicked. He prefers to destroy his enemy’s ability to fight, breaking their weapons and armor until they surrender and will listen to reason. Against those who trained their bodies to kill, capable of magic, or terrible beasts, Kiyoshi will reluctantly strike to kill.
Sword’s History:
Peacebringer was a uchigatana that was crafted from adamantine and was one of the first legendary weapons forged. It was made to dissuade the violent and destructive from pursuing the Sword of Kings, capable of destroying armor, weapons, and more in the pursuit of maintaining peace throughout the realm.
Those that have wielded its blade were known for their peaceful intentions and that tradition continues, the blade passing from one who dreams of kindness and peace to another. It is the counter to the weapon’s destructive capabilities, which could be terribly abused in the wrong hands. From Yoshiro the Black Bear, Soft-Voice Tsutomo, and countless others, Kiyoshi carries the proud lineage of the peaceful, caring swordsman ever forward.
