Edlethron |

"Noooo!" Edlethron screams in an epic Star Wars voice. Is it because Froog almost died? Is it that the elven woman turned out to be a green hag? Is it because he took the bait, instead of the dragonborn? He will ponder that one later.
The wood elf draws and slashes with his shortsword. Then, he kicks and tries to head butt the creature.

Edlethron's shortsword thrusts into the hag's surprisingly resilient flesh, and she recoils only to get kicked in the face. She deflects his headbutt however, pushing his eyes down briefly as she turns transparent, then only a thin outline, then nothing. The hag has vanished.
Keeping initiative rolling, don't bother anything other than magic trying to find her...it wont work.
Round 1:
Edlethron
Green Hag
Kriv, Froog, Vic, Cade, Khaz <--UP

Cade Whistler |

Can we wade into the water around the boat or is it a steep drop. I am assuming that even invisible her steps in the water would be visible. Second question would magic missle still hit?

GM Infinity |

Invisible Passage. The hag magically turns invisible until she attacks or casts a spell, or until her concentration ends (as if concentrating on a spell). While invisible, she leaves no physical evidence of her passage, so she can be tracked only by magic. Any equipment she wears or carries is invisible with her.
If Cade didn't know that, and thought it was just normal invisibilty, he might certainly believe he could use the water as a guard in that way. Int Arcana 12 he knows the hag's special version. There's no roll to know if the DM is a dick enough to do that to you, but I promise not. More my style would be say...capsizing the boat.
As for magic missile:
Each dart hits a creature of your choice that you can see within range
..but can't see of course.
If can't think of anything, there is always the Dodge action.

Froog Nackle |

I hate guessing on things like this...
Something clicks in Froog's terrified mind. If she wanted to kill me she would have... but she disappeared after Cade burned her. She went after him!
"Just a second Kriv! Lathander! Light up between me and the boat"
cast fairy fire between myself and the mushroom boat (20 ft cube). I'm trying to get the edge of the effect at the edge of the boat. I think Khaz gets caught on the top right corner though. DC 12 dex save(s?) EDIT: Also, I'll accept Kriv's potion now if he still wants to give it to me.

GM Infinity |

Hag Save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 Hehe, congrats!
Froog's suspicion seems divinely guided indeed, and just at the last moment the outlined form of the hag comes into view, poised near Cade about to push him overboard!

Cade looks spooked at the sudden appearance of the Hag. He quickly motions his hands and frantically speaks an unknown tongue. His hands fan out and erupt with flames.
Casts Burning Hands
Burning Hands: 3d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 1) = 3
Wild Magic Surge to get Tides of Chaos Back: 1d100 ⇒ 10 9-10 You cast magic missile as a 5th.level spell.
In a flurry of Desperation perhaps due to the pathetic nature of his firey spell. He flays his hands out almost seeming to beg for more magic. Seven bolts of force streak out from his fingers each slaming into the hag.
Wild Magic Surge Magic Missle 5th Level: 7d4 + 7 ⇒ (1, 4, 2, 1, 1, 4, 1) + 7 = 21
Good Lord how many 1's can I roll. 8 1's
Cade hops back around the stem of the mushroom boat and rushes toward Khaz.
Cade risks the OA assuming the hag hasn't used her reaction. I can't move Cade on my tablet. Can someone put me just north of Khaz assuming I live.

GM Infinity |

Yes on the OA, will give you half cover for utilizing the stem
Cade explodes with fire and a barrage of missile after missile...
Hag dex save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
The glowing form bleeds an opaque black ooze, slashing at the inspired caster as he flees...

edit: Ooops forgot about Vic, he still has an action here as well

Edlethron |

Edlethron follows the creature to his boat and slashes with his shortsword. Then, he kicks and tries to counter-strike with pommel of his sword.

Victor "Vic" Lofliss |

Don't we attack with advantage because of Fairy Fire success?
Round 2, Advantage?, Sneak Att, Cunning Action
Vic slips in and attacks with his Short Sword again.
SS Att: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
SS Adv Att: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
SS Dam: 1d6 + 3 + 1d6 ⇒ (4) + 3 + (1) = 8
He then disengages with his cunning action.

GM Infinity |

Yes on the advantage Vic, that was your round 1 action just now, there was a surprise round you took part in as well.
Vic plays off his fellow Tel-quessir's attacks in swordplay they both learned 100 years ago, the drow blade is blunt however, and the hag yet stands...
1/82 hp, 17 AC
"Stop...riches I have, yes...a way to the surface I know, mmm...yes..." she doesn't attack.

Khaz Dourblade |

Hit: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Advantage: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Khaz brought his hammer down directly onto the back of the Hag’s head. He then spat on the corpse.
”Decetiful creature! Hurt one o’ me lads, will ye? I spit on ye an’ yer mother too!”

Cade Whistler |

"Lies . . . not buying it."
Do you roll three times if you have 2 sources of advantage?
Cade follows up his quick frantic words with another spout of chanting.
Fire Orb: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Fire Orb Advantage Tides of Chaos: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Fire Orb Advantage Farie Fire: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Well fate answered that question with irrelevance
Fire Orb Damage: 1d10 ⇒ 10 Yeah
"Taste your future in the lake of fire."

GM Infinity |

Cade, you can't get double advantage. However, advantage and disadvantage can cancel each other if you have both.
Combat over, nice fight all. Like how that one went.
With the hag dead, you notice a rock slowly fade form and become a small coffer. Perhaps the hag was holding an illusion over it when she was alive. (Int Arcana 10 you are sure of it)
Froog is badly injured and with the hag dispatched, this island might be a good place for a long rest before another day of rowing.

Cade Whistler |

Understood. Using Tides of Chaos is better for me. Because it makes my next 1st level spell auto trigger a Wild Surge to replenish Tides of Chaos. I love how that works.
Arcana: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Cade frowns, "Probably another trap."

Froog Nackle |

Froog breathes heavily trying to catch his breath. "Thank you... Kriv... for sharing... your potion... but I don't... think I'll need it. He hands Kriv the potion and says the familiar prayer of mending as his chest wound begins to close.
cure: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
He takes a deep breath to make sure he can before looking around at the others to make sure no one else was wounded. "Am I the only one she got to? Thank Lathander no one else was hurt. I'll have to have a long conversation with him about making that flash of light brighter next time." he says rubbing his chest.
How about next time I don't volunteer to tank with no armor to speak of.

Khaz Dourblade |

”Well ye lived! Took the blow like a champ. We’ll make a dwarf out o’ ye yet!” Khaz went to slap the gnome on the back, but thinking about it decided that it might kill the poor lad. He awkwardly put his hand back down.

Edlethron |

Knowing his cousin's sordid history, Ed follows him to the coffer for him to open it. He offers as much help as useful.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15

Edlethron |

Knowing his cousin's sordid history, Ed follows him to the coffer offering as much help as useful to open it.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20

Froog Nackle |

"Thanks Khaz, but if this is the sort of thing dwarves like to do I think I'll pass. I would very much like to get back to my books instead of almost getting killed by the person we are trying to rescue. I'm very sorry for allowing myself to be tricked like that."
When Ed and Vic open up the scroll Froog wrinkles his nose at the mess. "This looks magical even if it is gross. There is a few different spells on here that could come in handy. One of them even lets you breath water for a while if you wanted to! If we are going to camp here I can cast a spell that could detect anything else magical on the island but it will take a good while to complete the incantation."
If we are camping here, and I think we should, I can cast Detect Magic as a ritual but it takes 10 mins and a round to do it. Also, fun fact, in 5th ed anyone that can read a written language can cast a spell from a scroll.

GM Infinity |

Alright, guess 3 is the majority now. Long rest activated.
Poking around, you find some actual wood from the surface here. Looks like scraps of barrels and crates for shipping cargo. The hag's ramshackle hut was out of sight around a stalagmite, but is probably too smelly for someone to bear sleeping in. Most of her food supply is rotten and of questionable origin, but luckily there's plenty of cavefish from earlier in the day for roasting. Even without spice, and even without eyes, nothing quite beats a roast fish.
Day 6:
It's hard to get excited in the morning. Shuushar assures you that he's on the right track, but who knows...kuo-toa are known for their insanity, perhaps he's leading you all in circles for some indiscernible reason.

Victor "Vic" Lofliss |

Vic rises from his deep meditation and checks his armor and weapons before joining the others.
It will be good to see the sun in the morning again at some point in time.

Froog Nackle |

Did anyone want to grab the scroll? I want to make sure it is recorded somewhere.
Froog wakes up feeling much better than when he went to sleep. You can hear him murmuring his morning prayers as others begin to stir. Then he casts a spell so those without darkvision can see better. After that he generally tries to stay out of the way until its time to leave.

Khaz Dourblade |

”Someday.” Khaz said cheerfully. ”All of this will belong to the dwarves. Once we kill every purple knife-ear, orc, troglodyte, Sahugain, hook horror an’ whatnot, this will all be ours.” He sounded completely certain of this. ”One hammer swing at a time we’ll do it. It’ll take thousands o’ years, I’m sure. But a mountain isn’t hollowed in a day. Ah, jus’ think about it lads. I’m jus’ sad that I won’t live to see the end o’ the glorious genocide.”

Froog Nackle |

"Genocide?! No no no, that can't be the answer! Sure, some of the drow are mean but surely some of them can be saved! I need to believe that at least. Surely people can live together in peace even in this unpleasant place."

Khaz Dourblade |

Khaz burst out laughing. ”A good drow? Hahaha! Oh ye glorious wee fool! AhHaHa! Ooh, that be funny. Mayhaps ye’ll find one when they be feedin’ ye alive to spiders? They e’en turn each other into driders, they do. Ah...hehe. Nay lad. Got to kill ‘em all. Young. Old. Male an’ female. By axe an’ hammer. Has to be done. Vic gets it.”

GM Infinity |

The svirfneblin and duergar look at each other with raised eyebrows during Khaz' imperialistic rant, but ultimately offer no resistance.
Early in the day you find a much welcomed spring of fresh water, as most of the murky Darklake is quite unsafe to drink. After about an hour, you enter a long straight corridor covered with faintly green glowing runes. Everyone but Cade can hear the roar of water far ahead, and note the current increases ever so slightly. Shuushar mumbles to himself, reading the runes "...no...no...not good...somethings changed here..."

GM Infinity |

"Mmm...these are signs of duergar construction. A water lock...could mean falls ahead. Buppido?" Shuushar turns to the duergar for advice.
"What? Don't look at me, I dunno. I'm a thinking duergar, not some engineer's dog. I don't understand that worker's scrawl."
A water lock is a device that slowly raises or lowers boats, fyi.
Similar to the dual walled pressure chamber of a spacecraft.

Cade Whistler |

Cade looks about skeptically, "So your so superior in your thinking that you can't read the dog's scrawl. Anyone else follow that logic."

GM Infinity |

Buppido folds his arms and rolls his eyes, not explaining himself further.
Jimjar snaps his fingers "Oh, I get it. Either the lock is finished, and we don't need to worry...or the lock isn't finished, and we're about to fall to our doom. I saved a chunk of Gael's fish for just such an occasion. Sounds like 50/50 odds, who want's to bet?"

GM Infinity |

I suppose anyone can roll insight on Buppido if they want.
The roaring from ahead gets much louder, Shuushar squints ahead "I'm sure there wasn't falls here before, must be they've opened a new tunnel down...a whirlpool to a lower level. We might be able to row around it, against the current...strongest on the oars, I'll do what I can from the water..."
He jumps overboard.

Khaz Dourblade |

Insight: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Grumbling, Khaz moved to the oars. He didn’t like Duergar, but they were still dwarves, deep down. He didn’t know quite what to make of them in general, least of all this one.

GM Infinity |

The dark pool surges, deafening even the loudest of shouts. Its waters pull at the humble craft like wind on a feather...Shuushar screams something unheard, pointing to a great hole draining everything in the cavern down farther to darkness...
Group strength athletics DC 14 check here to steer away successfully. 4 successes are required. If you don't want to use your mod, you can forgo it in favor of an NPC you name.

Edlethron |

Runt pushes Edlethron to the floor of the shroom boat and grabs his oar. Then with a snort and a squeal, the orc starts paddling like his life depends on it.
