1. Either works for me. Could leave it up to player choice. I'm torn between exploring my archer/rogue/sage further and trying any of my other many, many ideas. :) My character isn't too deeply tied to any setting anyway yet, and could be worked into Faerun pretty easily.
2. Again, either works for me. If the early part isn't really digging into the story much yet as Sohar says, I'm fine with jumping to 5th.
GM Infinity
Sohar is right, the first chapter is cool, but is sort of just there to level you up. The part I'm most excited about happens when at 6th, so the sooner the better I guess.
Player choice on rerolling seems the way to go.
Also this adventure has Sword Coast out the wazoo, so feel free to use stuff from the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide. I'm still not comfortable with unearthed arcana stuff, but all the published books are alright.

4d6-3Wow. I'm going to need to think about that one.
That probably makes a great Barbarian :p
=================================
I'll keep Seth if nobody minds. Otherwise, I'll probably go for a cleric.
GM Infinity
We could also take some time here and work on a little RP story linking you all up if you like. This one is a much bigger commitment than the other.
Game will start with the party heading to a place called Triboar in the Savage Frontier. We could make up a reason to be together and going there.
GM Infinity
Nicos, I'm a fan of Seth for what its worth.
hedge, Really? Cool, it was a somewhat random choice from 3 towns the adventure had as options. The other options were Bryn Shander in Icewind Dale, and Goldenfields, an Emerald Enclave stronghold. Triboar sounded most interesting the way it was presented. I don't have any 2e stuff anymore, was just browsing net for info. We won't be staying there long though, its just one chapter out of 12.
For those unfamiliar with the area, its pretty near Neverwinter inland a bit on the big huge Faerun map google has...actually I'll go ahead and put it on a slide.
Seth Kairos
Dm, can you open a thread in the gameplay so we can dot in it?. Being busy and all that makes easy to forget to post here.
Pindleton Montague IV
Seth - do you know what spells you are going for?
I'm thinking of going Arcane Trickster with my rogue, and since you are more of a primary caster I want to supplement your picks rather than overlap too much.
Seth Kairos
Seth - do you know what spells you are going for?
Not really. This is my first time in 5e.
======================================
GM infinity, I'm sorry that your tower of the last baron game didn't run as smoothly and you might have wanted. I'm just walking out from my thesis defense but I surely could have posted a little more frequently.
GM Infinity
Last year I had some really fast groups but not so much this year, I think I just had some unrealistic expectations. That module is super sandboxy. But yeah, teaching starts again in a few weeks. Last year about this same time I overloaded myself, I think I was running 4 games and playing 2 or 3...this year I wanted to finish everything and just have 1 going. I don't think I'm going to update my PFS character even.

Nice. Mine was in forensic toxicology and the study of an enzyme pathway of a date rape drug.
I haven't been posting as much as I could, because I'm in too many games and my work load massively increased. On top of that, I'm trying to move.
Gold: 1d10 ⇒ 4 x 25 = 100. 600 total gp to start.
Magic item: Luckstone (+1 saves and ability checks)
Pindleton Montague IV
Fun times! Those both sound interesting.
I'm just getting started on mine in medical ethics/philosophy of mind. It's on fMRI studies of vegetative state/minimally conscious patients as possible self-reports of pain levels.
1d10 ⇒ 4 - Hey, 600 gp as well!
GM Infinity
Man, fMRI is so cool.
And also, wasn't complaining about posting rate with you guys at all. My goal with Fallen Fortress was just to finish before summer break ended, and we did. The other game had people posting once a week, but it was probably my fault for not giving them enough to go on, etc.
First post is up, heads up I'll be travelling tomorrow and likely be without internet a few days (taking son to grandparents and leaving phone with wife).
Jysson
I've actually been posting here and in the game I'm running more than anything. I am barely posting in two others, and put my game on GitP on hold.
hedgeknight
I opted for the non-thesis route, taking two extra classes (call me a wimp if you want, I'll own it!). That was a while ago and I'd still like to be a professional college student, but with a house and a kid, well, it just doesn't pay that well. ;)
The posting rate was a little fast for me, and with returning to work in three weeks, I won't be able to post that frequently; but hopefully will be able to keep up and not slow the game down.
I'm in the same boat as you, Jysson. Running a 1E game and playing in three (all on other forums), and now this one > I'm tapped out!
Will be working on Damara this weekend; should have her ready to go when you return from visiting the folks, GM. Safe travels!
Seth Kairos
I'll have Seth ready for tomorrow mid day, I think.
Jysson
So I don't quite have a voice for this character yet. I haven't figured out his personality or motivation yet.
I've never played a PC with extremely low and extremely high mental stats before. I think what I'll do is average his mental stats and treat him like that, just sith higher wisdom influence and lower int/Cha influence. That will help with some of his personality, but I still need a motivation for why he's adventuring.
Seth Kairos
additional gold: 1d10 ⇒ 1
I think I've done the leveling up. Only need to choose what to buy.
Jysson
Can we use downtime rules to purchase some skill proficiencies?
I'd like to buy Nature.
Normally, the downtime rules only allow for tools and languages to be purchased with downtime, but that can be altered by the GM. 250 gp each.
GM Infinity
Jysson, since its important to your character I think that's fine. I might be wary making it a habit, since I'd rather use normal stuff if you/anyone wants multiple skills, like the feat that grants 3.
As for motivation, its sort of cliche, but there have been tons of giant attacks recently. Even someone trained in giants would notice there is something off about their organization and behavior. They seem to have a new/different and or chaotic way of doing things compared to the past.
It could be that a giant stole an artifact buried under your elven hometown, similar to Nightstone. Behind the scenes (ooc), its a theme of their attacks.
Another way to put you in with the group instead of what I said in gameplay would be that you and possibly some other elves were hunting the very cloud giants that attacked Nightstone. After the battle, you got the trail of where they went and intend to follow. The party then follows you in equal interest, leading to where you are in wilderness currently.
Maybe the trainer who is giving you nature skillz is there with you, and this is the moment he cuts you lose.
Jysson
I'm still around. Just very busy. Between work, moving into my new house, and dealing with the kids, I have very little free time.
Things should settle in a week or so; until then I'll be light on roleplay and won't post as often. But I'll still be here.
Pindleton Montague IV
Sweet, go ahead and post in gameplay if you have a second, I'd like everyone to post a short something before the first event. Reactions to events in Nightstone, explanations of rise in abilities, thoughts on the wilderness trail, etc
I'm giving it some thought and will get something posted today. I'm excited, I have heard good things about this adventure!
Seth Kairos
I'm done shopping, without magic items I don't even know what to buy.

I have found my voice. :)
Also, for what to purchase beyond magic items, anti toxin vials, healing potions, better adventuring equipment, armor upgrades, alchemist vials (acid, fire, etc), change of clothes, horse, wagon, dog, etc...
