MDT has stated that cultured bioware and up to beta-grade cyberware is available at game start. Go into Options, click the 'Program Settings' tab, and set the following:

Default Initial Character Points: 123
Max Edge/Flaw Points: 5
Max Num. Edges/Flaws: 10
Allow Beta & Delta Cyberware for Initial Characters: Checked
Allow existing characters to exceed racial max: Checked

Go to Program Settings 2 and set:

Allow Cultured (Beta Clinics) Bioware on creation: Checked

Then click 'Apply'. That'll get you going right.

No, I said Alpha grade was available, and cultured bioware. Not Beta grade cyberware. At least I don't believe I did. Can you point me to where I said that?

Everything else was right, I think.

Dark Archive

Huh? What? We can get Beta-grade now? YES! Okay, wait a sec, I have to go totally redo my character now!

:p

@All - Beta grade cyberware and cultured bioware are available at the start. You just have to pay the price. Remember, the Availability goes up though for both, so some things might not be available.

I think this is where the confusion might have come in. Remember that the availability on Beta is +5! And that's if this wasn't a typo on mdt's part (which it seems it might have been.)

Ah, sorry, that was a typo. It should have been Alpha.

That being said, if anyone did buy Beta cyberware, let me know. I'll allow it since I said it. :(

Me'Mori Audit:

Attentive Edge? I can't find this.

23 Stat points listed as purchased, but 25 used.

Shock Hand requires a cyber replacement hand. That's 25K for the hand, -0.28E 2,600 for shock, total cost 27,600, -0.28E. Not sure where you're getting 5,200 and -0.4E.

Offline storage maxes at 1500 for 7550, there's no 1800.

@ALL - Anyone find where they stuffed normal computers in the SR3 character generator? Can't find them.

Wraith:

I think you might have made some sheet alterations since this, but here are a few notes from your profile:

Reaction: It's your Quickness+Intelligence divided by two, rounded down. So, in Wraith's case it should be a 7(11 w/ Wired Reflexes).

R/W: Your starting R/W is equal to half (rounded down) of your language skill. So your English and Japanese are both 2.

Armor: When stacking armor you take half of the lowest (as usual rounding down) and add it to the highest. When determining penalties you add them together. So, your coat is a 4/2. The FFBA is a 4/1. That would make your armor 6/2 (prior to shawl (+1B), bone lacing (+1B), dermal sheath (+1I), and forearm guard (+1I*) modifiers.) With those your armor would be a 8/3 (4I vs. armed and unarmed melee attacks).

Suprathyroid Gland: Did you include the increases in your Attributes? I'm guessing so since Quickness is listed as 8. Should it be 7(8)? Which means your Strength is 2(3) [4 in the arm]?

Cyberlimb: The base Strength and Quickness for it is 4. As mdt noted, you'll need to increase its Quickness so it doesn't slow you down any overall.

Since Cultured Bioware is allowed, please use the character from this posting, since that was the correct one that included the Bioware.

The "Attentive" Edge was found by TWO, and I found the entry here

The 25 points should account for the +2 from the flaw "Matrix Addiction(Light)"

Shock Hand entry is on p.42 of "Man & Machine", states "...They are designed to be mounted in cyberlimbs; ceramic ridges and insulation protect the user if installed in natural hands." The calculation was for an Alphaware pair.

Ah, duly noted on the Offline Storage. I was calculating out of the "Matrix" book. Apologies.

Oh Attentive is from "TSS", which is The Shadowrun Supplemental. It's a fan-made magazine for Shadowrun. I think you can still find them all on dumpshock if you're interested in them. (I think it's where Cowboy found Gunslinger's Honor?)

Ok, that explains it. I really wish people wouldn't include non-standard stuff without asking.

For things that aren't in the basic books, please ask approval first? ANd send me a link or copy of the ability.

It was advice on my part; sorry.

*whew* Alright, updated char to be in compliance with all Ashley's recommendations. Spent off nuyen getting allllllll my permits and upgraded lifestyle a titch. Let's do this!

By the by, neither Hepcat, Cowboy, nor Wraith have on their sheets what their two free L1 contacts are. (Listener doesn't get contacts; he's been hung out to dry. ;) )

@Good Reputation

The way I handle this perk is to make sure it's not abused (I've had it abused in my games before). It is a very powerful edge, if the GM just lets you use it whenever.

The way I handle it is on a sort of sliding scale. You can have something that comes up often, in a small area. Or, you can have something that works all over the place but doesn't come up often.

Examples :

Good Rep with Elf Poser Gangs in New Orleans. This doesn't come up all the time, but, whenever you are doing a run, there is a decent chance at least one of the gangs is near the run location and they can provide cover or information if you treat them right. Used often and can provide good results regularly.

Good Rep with Renraku in New Orleans. This doesn't come up all the time, but it can save your butt when it does. Buying something from Renraku, doing runs for Renraku (and negotiating much better rates), talking your way out of trouble on Renraku territory.

Good Rep with Shadowrunners in New Orleans. This doesn't mean they won't take a run against you, but it does mean they'll be reluctant or charge more. They are also more willing to talk if you are both going after the same target, or end up on opposite sides. Also helps a lot with gathering information.

Good Rep with Fixers in New Orleans. All the fixers in New Orleans have heard of you, and respect you. You've impressed them with your work, and they'll be more likely to push their pay scales in your favor. They're also less likely to burn you on a run.

Good Rep with Armorers in the CAS. Doesn't come up all the time, but anywhere in the CAS you can contact an armorer and they've heard good things about you. You pay your bills, and you don't burn your contacts. You can pick up weapons faster and cheaper even outside your normal channels when on the road.

Good Rep with Runner Hackers in DataHaven X. You have a good rep on the DataHaven X (whichever one it ends up being). People respect you, come to you for advice, and have a higher level of trust with you than most hackers. They are more likely to share dangerous paydata with you than with other people.

If you don't like the way I handle the rep, feel free to trade it out if you like. It's a very powerful edge with people the reputation affects, but it shouldn't be a free -2 to all game checks.

Good Rep with Fixers and Professional Johnsons in New Orleans, then.

The curse was not directed at you.

The contacts didn't save in the .sr3 doc for some reason. I'll spoiler them below.

Lvl 1 - Amy-Lynn Jefferson-Boyde - Security Decker:

Small, even for a dwarf decker.

Amy-Lynn is the widow of one of Roy's nephews, killed in action. Ex-CAS military, she now works as a Street Decker for a precinct in one of New Orleans' less immaculate slums.

As a decker, she knows Roy simply because her marriage was on his farm, more than a decade and a half ago. Her husband was killed seven years ago during travel in the swamps, and she hadn't seen Roy since the funeral.

Lvl 1 - Pierre - Troll Kid:

A young hoodlum who Roy met on his last trip to Nawlins. The kid was interested in the Old World, and Roy taught him a thing or two on how to shoot a shotgun.

Not much of a relationship, but the kid was impressed, and wrote his number on Roy's phone. Assuming Roy can handle the phone and find the number, it could reveal some information on the less touristy parts of the town.

Lvl 2 - Prof. James Ruthers - Magic Professor:

A tall, muscular and handsome elf, a couple of gray strands in his hair (rumored to be dyed), Prof. James Ruthers is one of the most charismatic and intelligent people in CAS higher education. And he knows it.

Prof. Ruthers and Roy go a long way back, ever since the Professor. then Dr. James Ruthers led an expedition into the critter-infested West CAS, back in 2045. The works of the expedition led to James receiving his current title. He was deeply impressed by Roy's non-academic knowledge of the Sixth World, and they speak every couple of months. There's a picture of Roy and James sitting in front of a massive albino Awakened bear's corpse in his office.

He's rumored to be working against Aztech pressure in biology.

As for HepCat, I'm assuming that Roy's already crashing there, since the alternative is camping outside the city.

Might put 'em on your character page. :)
