Alanna "Wraith" Whiteangel |
Alanna tucks into her second steaming-hot burger and glances at the floor-plans. She fields Selachii's question: "A standard sweep-and-clear would put two sets of eyes on the outside, and the rest of the team moving together in-column doing a systemic search. We hit a jack-point, you'd peal off and wrekt that while the meat-space was secured and finished.
It's on a two-acre plot so as long as we don't crank the tunes and blast the horns, stealth might take care of itself. You want, I go in first, walk perimeter, give thumbs up or at least say if there's a roid-troll in the backyard with a Vulcan.
How's that sound? Otherwise I'd say you can have your hour but with it of teh n3tZ, don't know what you can dig up."
With that she leans over to Redline. "I'll sit yer shotgun, sister. It seems thems want to make their party of the sausage variety." Then she leans closer. "An' what the frag is a 'nade' launcher? That a lesbo term? Gramps looks like he wouldn't know lesbo if they scissored in front of him so I donnu wat that's up with."
Spelling incorrections are purposeful. ;-)
Rebecca 'Redline' Setter |
"You don't 'now what a 'nade launcher is?! What?"
Redline gives Wraith a look as if she had just emerged from underneath a rock - or something. But she quickly comes around, attempting to grab Wraith one arm over the shoulders with a grin. With her free hand she flips open her coat and pulls out a belt with an worrying amount of wobbling "'nades" attatched. She continues to wave the belt around with worrying vigour as she colourfully explains what a "'nade" is. Even if Wraith may insist that she does know what a grenade is. Especially then, since it invites the conversation to the deeper philosophical aspects *cough* of 'make things go boom!'.
After a while, Redline cools down and lets go of Wraith, if she hasn't already slipped away. She also stops treating her explosives as maracas and mumbles *something* about them being mostly safe anyway while stowing them away again.
"So planning eh? What do we know about that hood - low odds of there being a troll metal concert next door aight? Probably would have to fetch my silencer then ..."
"... but being ready to cut the cord for the alarm might help. A bit of jamming wouldn't hurt if we had it, but just DoS the local KE phones *could* work a little while, if we got the stuff for it. And do we know if they are off the electrical grid as well? Bricking their power would at least force them over to aux units, less power budget for stuff like fences then."
Roy 'Cowboy' Jefferson |
Roy lets out a chuckle, pointing at Redline. "Don' let it never be said, I ain't a good judge of character." Taking the house papers in hand, he nods. "Well, well, ain't that just peachy. I reckon that that there manic-necked cat is in either the study or the main bedroom. If we're goin' in from the verander, we can split up and take the rooms, followin' our right foot." He continues following the map with his finger. "Well, how's this for a plan, kids? Me an' Cloudy sneak the computer guy on site and have him disable the security. Once that's done, we get him out and and get on findin' that statuette. Rest o' you stays an' keeps watch in the garden, warnin' us if s!@$'s 'bout to hit the fan, an' removin' said s!~* midflight." He lights up a cigarette, looking around for the team's response. "If y'all got better plans, let them at me."
-HepCat- |
HepCat, unrolling his pouch of tobacco and pipe from the sleeve of his tee shirt, fills the bowl and lights up. A rich smell of pipe smoke soon fills the room.
"Sound crazy Roy. I can cover you from the street with Lucile. Also she has come stealth modifications, and a big gun! Her sensors are not too bad as well. If needed I can send up Elvis to watch from sky-high. Dig it!"
Alanna "Wraith" Whiteangel |
Alanna kinks an eyebrow at Roy. "If you think I'll let you waltz in without me, you've got another thing coming. That couch wants you off it as bad as you want off it, so I'll be by your elbow to make sure this doesn't hoop-fragged. Plan? Plan!"
Alanna itches her artificial arm.
Jairdan Wynne |
Clearly not the kinds of runs he was used to, Selachii sighed. "私は購入する必要が大きな銃..", he mumbled to himself. Sighing, he had one hand on his forehead, looking at the information given, and threw up his hands, conceding. "Fine. It appears we have a plan", he reluctantly ground out. Shaking his head, he eyed Wraith and said with a mild touch of humor, "You know, I had recently thought that we had not worked together in a while... Life is not without a sense of humor, it appears."
Lifting his head to Bartholomew, he gave him a polite nod. "May I have that burger and drink to go, please?"

Those requesting food are given their food while they plan. Jairden's is supplied in a to-go box, consisting of a self-heating plas container and an insulated plas container for the cold bits and instructions on how to assemble the burger after re-heating to keep the cold and warm portions tasting perfect.
Rebecca 'Redline' Setter |
"'Aight. I'm in. Just one thing, who's gonna deal with all that voodoo s%%~?"
Redline agrees and takes a detour to raid Bart's supply of tasty food. The fact that food was available 'to go' clearly inspired her when she started ordering multiple items off the menu. Good graces, I won't have to even *see* noodles for at least a week!
-HepCat- |
HepCat reiterates the "No Eating" rule for his van, before helping himself to a bottle of whiskey as the group begins to file out to the vehicle. He sends the command to start the vehicle up and remotely drives it to the front door.
"All aboard! Lets get this gig rolling! Do we want a drive by, or right into the action?"
mdt |
Everyone tumbles into vehicles (Redline's or Hepcats) and take off.
Two hours later they meet up outside the small town of Hammond, on the north shore of Lake Ponchatrain.
The target house is in an upper middle scale area of suburbia. Driving past, they find 8 ft walls made of stone and topped with wrought iron adding another 2 ft to the top. A pair of wrought iron gates in front of the property guard the winding driveway. A large sign on the gate reads 'Beware of Hound'. The sign is brass with raised black letters about 6 inches tall each (the letters, not the sign).
Beyond the fence can be seen tree tops scattered over the interior, and in the distance some faint lights that must be the house.
Alanna "Wraith" Whiteangel |
"Alright let's go!"
Stealth: 6d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 5, 3, 5, 1) = 19 = 3 hits
Acrobatics (climb): 7d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 4, 4, 3, 6, 1) = 25 = 4 hits
Like a shadow, Wraith exits the vehicle and glides across the distance to the wall with all the noise of the fluttering leaves. At the brick obstacle she springs up with grace of a hunting cat, bounding to the top then grasping the spines, smothering herself prone, leaving no sign for watchful eyes.
There she pauses, running her mirrored shades through their full spectrum of vision, watching for this rumored 'hound' of which the sign spoke.
If she sees nothing untoward, she motions the others forward.
Alanna "Wraith" Whiteangel |
As she sprints to, and up, the well-laid brick, Alanna is reminded of the first house she broke in to. It was some rich policlub member and someone was paying for the contacts on his commlinnk. There was only one guard, and the garden was gorgeous.
Int: 6d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 3, 4, 4, 6) = 25 = 4 hits
Rebecca 'Redline' Setter |
Uhm this might be a silly question, but where do I find 'perception' and stuff in 3rd ed?
Redline makes a point of parking her vehicle somewhere a bit discrete, given that it neither fit with the neighbourhood nor had any fancy tricks. She stuffs her AK, a few demolition odds-and-ends and a LAW launcher inside a decently sized dark grey sports bag before exiting.
"Hang on. Let's see if they have eyes or wires hanging about."
Interested in taking a look at the exterior security measures real quick : )
Roy 'Cowboy' Jefferson |
Roy slowly exits the car. "Hound, huh. Reckon that ain't gonna be much of a problem." He sighs as Wraith scales the wall. I'd wait for the place to be checked first, but that's alright.
"Does anyone think why Hound's spelled with a capital letter? Wonder if it's just a spellin' mistake, or Hound is a name o' some big robot who's goin' to blast us all to kingdom come?", he nods at HepCat. "Anyway. Let's get in there.", he says, trying to vault over the wall.
Stealth: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 4, 5) = 11 2hits.
Acrobatics, defaulting.: 7d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 3, 6, 6, 3, 6) = 30
Exploding: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 4) = 13 3 hits.
Jumping over the wall, he finds himself next to Wraith. "Now let's see if my ol' bones ain't creakin' too loud.", he sends a wink to the girl, proceeding through the grass.
mdt |
Just as Wraith is bout to grab the wrought iron, the image of a fellow runner with crispy black skin and steam coming out of their eyeballs flashes through her mind... the unfortunate victim of grabbing a 50,000 volt fence...
Perception is done via an Int check
Alanna "Wraith" Whiteangel |
Alanna stops dead in her tracks and bends an ear to the fence, listening for a tell-tale humming. As she hears as certain cowboy coming up fast to get a running starts, she puts a hand out in front of him to pull him up short.
"Shhh," she whispers. She sends a quick text to the team.
>>>Might be fence is electrified. I could throw my coat over it, unless any of you have better ideas?<<<
Jairdan Wynne |
The vibration from his pocket secretary on the inside of his arm made him look, and he sighed in exasperation as he pulled on his gloves and picked up his pack, exiting the vehicle. Commlink? useless. Coordination? It could be better. His microtronics kit was in a separate part of his pack, and thankfully his jeans and boots were not too out-of-place. Responding to the text was out of the question, since that would imply complicity, rather than just a wrong number.
It was a couple minutes before he got there, looking for any visible power connection to the fence as he approached the estate.

mdt |
Jairden doesn't see any connections from the front. More than likely, connections would be buried in the wall and enter from the interior, and likely from areas not immediately publicly facing.
Jairdan Wynne |
Part of the attitude was acting like you were supposed to be there, and Jairdan was doing the best he could with that, approaching the others, and hoping that their luck was holding. "With all of us here, we should be able to toss two people over the fence without coming in contact with it. Any monofilament at the top?"
Rebecca 'Redline' Setter |
Perception/Int: 7d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 2, 1, 1, 3, 1) = 16
Redline takes a quick survey of the wall, looking for any obvious weaknesses. Like a tree or cell tower or something close, from which one may simply drop over.
"'Aight. I'm up for boosting someone over, shouldn't be that hard. Just keep an eye out for that 'Hound'."
mdt |
Redline finds nothing that looks like a weakness.
To get someone over using the coat, it'll require a climbing check, with a threshold of 5, due to the coat covering up handholds. Anyone doing so will need to make a Body(4) test to soak damage from the 12 foot drop on the other side. The coat will only protect one side. The drop is a light wound. If you have athletics, you can make an acrobatics check (5) to land and roll. Success negates all damage.
Alanna "Wraith" Whiteangel |
It's easy to assume that we would've given each other our cell phone numbers and just set up an intra-net comm link that way.
Wraith looks at the fence and replies quietly. "I can make it over myself, but can anyone else? Unless anyone wants to try the lock on the gate?"
Rebecca 'Redline' Setter |
"Aight. Let's do this."
Climb: 5d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 6, 5, 6) = 25
Soft Landing: 5d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 2, 2, 1) = 14
Let's see hmm in 3rd ed does 1ns cancel out successes? I think I read something like that ... Body just in case!
Soak: 6d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 5, 3, 3, 1) = 21
+Impact Armour, if relevant: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 2) = 11
Stealth: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 6, 1) = 19
Redline gets over quite easily, but the landing doesn't exactly look graceful. She does her best as to jump over discreetly, as discreetly one can be jumping over an electric fence.
Alanna "Wraith" Whiteangel |
Wraith clambers up after Redline, her climbing claws briefly coming out, and her balance augmenter turning on, making the veritical movement as natural as walking.
This character was built around the climbing skill, target number is 5 -2 -2 = 1: 7d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 3, 4, 5, 4, 2) = 27 = 7 successes =)
Wraith pauses at the top, grabbing her coat as she back-flips down.
Athletics: 5d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 6, 4, 1) = 18
She shrugs into her coat and, crouching down, crawls close to Redline. She whispers, "Alright, the easy part is over. Let's go make some money. If we get in trouble, let's just run back here and hope HepCat can just gun down whatever is chasing us. It's better to go loud than go under."
She creeps forward, trying to be one with the darkness.
Stealth: 6d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 3, 2, 4, 4) = 18
She sends out a group text>>>We're in. HepCat, if you hear two high-pitched screams, please drive that big fragger through the front gate and come rescue us. =) <<<
Alanna "Wraith" Whiteangel |
Also, to be fair, I think rolling a 1 only cancels out a success in White Wolf games. In SR3, the Rule of One only says that rolling a one is a failure, even at TN 1, and rolling all ones makes you poo yourself. I think Redline meant the 'soft landing' die roll at the athletics test, and did get one six, so maybe that would negate the wound?
Roy 'Cowboy' Jefferson |
Climb: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 4, 2) = 11
Whoops.
"Goddarnit...", mutters Roy as he stumbles on the fence in the wrong manner. "Reckon I'd give in another try, though I like my limbs where they are..."
Climb: 4d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 6, 2) = 14
He manages to get a foothold the second time, climbing on top of the wall. "Well, hadn't climbed a fence in decades.", he chuckles.
Soft Landing: 4d6 ⇒ (2, 5, 1, 6) = 14
He thuds and rolls on the ground, before picking up his hat and putting it on once more. "Aight, gals, let's get that manically kinetic cat an' be done with it."
Stealth: 4d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 6, 5) = 15 I just noticed I'm yet to update the page...
Roy follows after Wraith, slowly moving through the grass.

Everyone but Jairdan makes it over the fence. Jairdan is stuck trying to get up.
Those on the inside can see heavy duty wires leading up the inside of the stonework to the metal above, it appears alternating bars are each attached to wires, forming circuits if you grab two different wires. Judging by the cable, it's able to carry a lot of current.
To the west, is the driveway and gate. To the north is the main house. The group sees nothing currently in the way of a Hound.
Rebecca 'Redline' Setter |
"Goin' to take a guess and say that they'll notice if we cut the wire. I'll take a look and see if I can't rig a bypass real quick. Otherwise, I can make the fence go away once we are ready to leave if we really really need." Redline sits down at takes a good look at the wiring. "Why don't you take a quick look up ahead?"
Unsure if it is the bars or wires running along the fence - the bars I guess? Should be able to hook up multiple wires to one bar as long as they are of the same 'type' (assuming 2-phase or 3-phase source and one can figure out the pattern).
Electronics (feasibility analysis): 4d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 4, 4) = 12
Demolitions (feasibility analysis), -1 TN: 6d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 3, 1, 1, 4) = 13
Alanna "Wraith" Whiteangel |
Wraith nods. "Alright, good idea. I'll see what the house looks like, but I promise not to start the party without a date." She winks salaciously at Roy and tactical-walks up to the nearest part of the house.
Stealth: 6d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 2, 3, 3, 1) = 19 = 2 hits
mdt |
2 successes Roy
The power relays look like there are a dozen different circuits. Each has multiple wires leading up to the fence's metal part.
Just a note, Wraith's jacket would need to remain on the fence, as attempting to pull it down from this side would likely end up with someone touching multiple wire connections
???: 6d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 3, 3, 2, 3) = 23
Perception rolls everyone please
