Squeezing rules given that moving deeper into the cave requires squeezing for the Medium Sized people.
Basically, half-movement, -4 Attack and AC.
Lineera Vonnarc |
Lineera shifts to having her shield in front of her, and ducks down and begins moving through the small passage. Commanding Munchkin as she squeezes through, she calls ahead. "Attack them, make sure they can't fire!" The instruction is probably too complex for the kobold, but it understands the first part at least, as it shambles into the darkness with its now typical zeal.
As she squeezes through the gap, Lineera gasps as her head suddenly twists to her right. "On the right, more of them!" Turning to the right, the drow then storms off into the dark with almost uncomfortable level of litheness and speed, given that anyone else can barely make out where she's even putting her feet.
Munchkin's making a move action.
Lineera's taking a double move action.
mdt |
Munchkin, not being all that bright, moves forward to get into attack position to attack the tiny bird on top of the ballistrade that's slamming it's rotting head into a bell.
Lineera moves forward, toward the second ballistrade, again a small rotting crow is slamming it's head over and over again into a bell. Behind it, the zombie that was waiting for a target goes into action, firing at Lineera.
Attack: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 3
The bolt misses by a wide margin.
Elena Ebonlocke |
'NOW!'
As soon as Lineera and her undead minion make their move, Elena jumps from her spot and follows them into the cavern, forced to proceed almost on hands and knees due to the very low ceiling.
When she hears Lineera's warning, she turns briefly, but sees only darkness. "What? How many? Where are they? I can't see!"
'Curse this place! I can barely see in front of me... Either Mahb brings the light closer, or I'll have to create my own!'
Elena takes a double move action too.
Lineera Vonnarc |
Just a question for coming rounds, how much dexterity or general movement will it take to scale, jump, or otherwise get ourselves past the balustrades?
mdt |
They're locked in place. A small creature can make a DC 15 climb check to climb over them and squeeze to the other side and unlock them so they can be moved. A medium sized creature will need an Escape Artist DC 15 on top of that to do the same thing. Alternately you can smash them apart, Hardness 5, 40 HP to smash a hole in one big enough for a small creature to squeeze through, 60 for a medium creature.
mdt |
Map updated
Lineera can see to the south a tiny passage that looks way too small for her to pass by. It looks small enough to require a small creature to squeeze to get past. She can just make out with darkvision what looks like stacked up crates to the south beyond the passage, blocking further view.
To the east, a larger chamber opens up, and Lineera nad Elena can make out that it seems to be lit, although the light doesn't reach far down the passage.
Mahb |
I'll be moving forward. I'm just averse to running forward in the dark. Also, Mahb has a bullseye lantern... so I'm gonna be lighting this place UP - hopefully in more ways than one. ;)
BTW, I love the undead birds banging their skulls to ring the bells. That is awesome.

Follow up question: Since Elena has a reach weapon (longspear), can she attack the kobolds on the other side of the barricade if she's within 10 ft.? If so, what would be the miss chance (I suppose they'd have some sort of cover bonus)?
mdt |
Elena can attack them through the arrow slit. The wall itself is 4 feet high, meaning it's close to the roof (which is why a small character can climb up and squeeze through the gap on top). So there's not enough room to attack over the wall, given the roof is 4ish feet high as well. Rules for arrow slits are copied from the PRD below. She'll have to be right up next to the it though, as the wall itself is 2.5 feet thick (hollow but bulky).
Eva Elsington |
I take it they would provide cover for Eva's Bombs? Or would it be possible to throw one over/through to hit them?
mdt |
They'd provide cover. The zombies would gain Evasion, and gain a +4 to their reflex saves. Eva can try to throw the bomb through the arrow slit, similar to putting a fireball through the arrow slit. It's a ranged touch attack at the arrow slit. Failure would cause the bomb to go off against the cover and only damage the balustrade. Basically the difference between throwing it so some of the blast goes over the top of the wall, or trying for a bomb through the mail slot. AC of the arrow slit is 10 - 5 (dex) +4 (size) + 8 (arrow slit bonus) = 17.
Eva Elsington |
Sorry, RL and Work decided to get in the way today. Horribly. I'm not even supposed to work weekends.
Eva moved into the cave, and eyed the balustrade. She weighed the pros and cons of throwing a bomb at them. She was limited in number and decided against it, to save them for bigger things. She also didn't want to risk hitting her friends.
Move: 20ft
Move: Pull out Dagger
I took it that while Mahb is casting light, it is limited by the entrance until Mahb moves into the cave. Eva's being cautious for the moment.
mdt |
Attack: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (13) - 1 = 12
The zombie behind the southern balustrade fires at Lineera, and just misses her as the bolt scrapes off her armor and zips past Elena's arm.
Round 3
Elena Init: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Eva Init: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Lineera Init: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Mahb Init: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
CKZ -> Crossbow Kobold Zombie
CZ -> Crow Zombie
East CKZ init: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (16) - 1 = 15
South CKZ init: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (17) - 1 = 16
East CZ init: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16
South CZ init: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Order : Elena, South CKZ, East CZ, Eva, East CKZ Zombie, Lineera, Mahb, South CZ zombie
Elena Up
Elena Ebonlocke |
'I still can't see anything! We need another light source...'
Elena speaks a few words, and her weapon starts glowing in the dark, illuminating the small cave.
Finally able to see their foes, Elena advances toward the balustrades, her mind set on opening a passage to reach the enemies.
Elena casts Light on her weapon, then moves south-east two squares.
mdt |
The southern crossbow zombie fires at Lineera again (her being directly in it's line of fire still).
Attack: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2
There is a THUMP as the crossbow bolt slams into balustrade from the other side.
The crow on the eastern balustrade stops slamming it's head into the bell for a moment.
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10
It then rapidly slams it's head into a different bell.
BONG BONG BONG BONG BONG
Eva is up next.
Eva Elsington |
The CZ are just up, but not blocked by by the balustrade? Or do they have cover?
Eva Elsington |
Then it's an available target!
Eva didn't like that bell ringing crow that sat on the Balustrade in front of her. She reached in her bag pulling out an alchemist fire, and threw it at the crow.
Free Action: 5 ft Step
Move Action: Draw Alchemist Fire
Standard Action: Ranged Touch with Alchemist Fire on Eastern Crow
Alchemist Fire Ranged Touch Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Alchemist Fire Direct Hit Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Alchemist Fires Slash Damage: 4 = 4
Sorry munchkin is a little in the line of fire.
mdt |
The poor undead crow explodes into flames, continuing to slam it's head into the bell randomly as it burns.
The balustrade burns and takes damage (6 hp, vuln to fire, no hardness). The balustrade makes a save.
Save: 1d20 ⇒ 10
The balustrade will take another point of damage next round as the fire dies down.
Munchkin also bursts into flames, taking 4 pts of damage. Being old, dry rotted, and covered with dry rotted leather, Munchkin is a Flammable Object.
Save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Munchkin also takes another point of damage next round (if not put out).
The eastern zombie fires at Lineera, as she's the easier to hit.
Attack: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (19) - 1 = 18
Confirm: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (6) - 1 = 5 Not confirmed
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 7
A bolt slams into Lineera, taking her in the kidneys from the side. The drow stumbles as the bolt rips through her kidneys and buries itself in deep inside her body.
Fortitude DC 14 save to avoid disease
The extremely injured Lineera, and the ancient Mahb up next.
Cover: 1d100 ⇒ 91
The zombie that shot Lineera takes splash damage as well.
Eva Elsington |
Isn't the other kobold zombie over there in splash range as well?
Lineera Vonnarc |
Staggering and letting out a cry of pain as the bolt pierces her armour, the drow crumples to the ground.
Fortitude Save: 1d20 ⇒ 13
With her breathing ragged, Lineera raises a hand towards Munchkin, mumbling. Munchkin on the other hand, doesn't seem to notice or mind being on fire, and begins attempting to scale the balustrade.
Climb: 1d20 ⇒ 3
Just going prone for the round.
EDIT: Actually, follow up question, could Lineera use Mage Hand to unlock the Balustrades?
mdt |
No, it requires more than 5 pounds of force to move the locked bars. Basically, there's an iron band on the back, and a big iron bar dropped into a hole in the ground, kind of like this, except instead of being bolted into the wall, the bolts are dropped into holes in the ground. Requires two bolts being pulled up to move the balustrade. Crude but effective.
mdt |
The southern crow zombie looks around, and hits his head on the larger bell.
BONG BONG BONG BONG BONG
Mahb, shining her light down the southern tunnel, can just make out (over the balustrade) a tiny fissure in the rocks that would be very hard to pass, and beyond that some wooden structure that could be a crate of some kind, or another balustrade.
Round 4
Elena Init: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Eva Init: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Lineera Init: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Mahb Init: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
CKZ -> Crossbow Kobold Zombie
CZ -> Crow Zombie
East CKZ init: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4
South CKZ init: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 3
South CZ init: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Order : Elena, Eva, Mahb, East CKZ, Lineera, South CKZ, South CZ
Elena, Eva, and Mahb up.
Elena Ebonlocke |
"Lineera!" - Elena's eyes widen in shock as the drow is grievously wounded and falls to the ground, but after no more than a fleeting moment, she springs into action.
Elena rushes to her friend's side, takes a firm hold of the bolts stuck in Lineera's wound and unceremoniously yanks it out, then puts both hands to the sides of the wound and channels her power into a healing wave.
Move to reach Lineera, standard to lose Command and cast Cure Light Wounds.
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
"Don't you dare to try and die on me! We are all leaving this place in one piece! Come on, get up, we've still got some undead to destroy!"
Oh yeah! Can you feel the healing? I almost feel like a pro cleric. xD
Eva Elsington |
All my big friends in my way >.<
Eva pulled out another Alchemist Fire and moved to position herself to take out that other crow.
Move: Draw Alchemist Fire
Move: Move 15ft
mdt |
During combat, I'm going to use a 24 counter, just to keep things going. I posted the start of round 4 yesterday at 7:50PM, so I will NPC Mahb for now, my apologies but it's to keep everyone else from waiting.
Mahb casts Guidence on Elena
The southern zombie fires at Elena.
Attack: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (19) - 1 = 18
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 2 Lineera's hit should have been 1d6, not that it matters anymore
The bolt drives it's way directly into Elena's guts.
mdt |
Round 5
Elena Init: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Eva Init: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Lineera Init: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Mahb Init: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
CKZ -> Crossbow Kobold Zombie
CZ -> Crow Zombie
East CKZ init: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (12) - 1 = 11
South CKZ init: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4
South CZ init: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16
Order : Elena, South CZK, Mahb, Eva, East CKZ, Lineera, South CKZ
Elena Up
Eva Elsington |
Did Lineera get skipped last round? It looks like she was skipped. Unless I missed something else.
Elena Ebonlocke |
"Ahh!" - Elena cries in pain when the bolts pierces her flesh - "Cursed abominations..."
Grinding her teeth, she spins around and raises her spear - "This has gone on long enough!" - and with a mighty thrust she projects her weapon forward to pierce the undead kobold right through the balustrade arrow slit.
Longspear Attack: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 - 4 = 20
Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Critical Attack Confirmation: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 - 4 = 20
Damage: 2d8 + 12 ⇒ (1, 2) + 12 = 15
YESS! After being unable to get a stable connection all day, and just now having my post eaten TWICE by the forum (possibly my internet), karma rewards me for my perseverance! xD
Lineera Vonnarc |
Woohoo! It's hits like that that make combat awesome!
Assuming mdt agrees I got skipped:
Lineera hands ferally paw at the wound in her side as the arrow's ripped out of her, forcing Elena to push them aside before the healing can begin. Once the wound is closed, Lineera weakly offers her thanks, and calls to Munchkin. "Munchkin! Roll on the ground!" As the undead kobold rolls around on the ground, unknowingly putting out the fire, Lineera crawls across the ground towards him, and adds a magical touch to the proceedings.
Inflict Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
mdt |
Just going prone for the round.
I didn't skip her, she said she was just going prone for the round. I try really hard not to skip people. I have no problem with her retconning however to going prone and holding.
Eva Elsington |
Eva, seeing her opening took it. She threw an alchemist fire at the Southern Crow Zombie.
Alchemist Fire Ranged Touch With Point Blank: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 3 + 1 = 8
Direct Hit Damage (Int + Point Blank): 1d6 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 3 + 1 = 8
Splash Damage: 4 = 4
mdt |
Eva's flask misses the crow, as it's small size gives it a better touch AC than the big ones.
Not that it matters much, the splash damage from the flask, as it breaks open on the balustrade sends the crow up in flames, it's head falling off and rolling over to Eva, little eyes flaming as it stares up at her and it's beak caws silently.
Lineera Vonnarc |
Going prone was my Round 3 action mdt, not Round 4. I'm pretty sure I got skipped. Initiative order for 4 was "Order : Elena, Eva, Mahb, East CKZ, Lineera, South CKZ, South CZ
Elena, Eva, and Mahb up." And just now you went for Mahb on that turn.
Lineera Vonnarc |
No worries, such things can happen to the best of us. I mean, just the other day I was posting as my giant angry Evil barbarian Dane under Lineera's Alias! :) Consider the above healing of Munchkin as my first move, I'll post the second when my initiative actually comes up.
Mahb |
Doh! Sorry for missing my turn. Work is ridiculously nightmarish.
Mahb hobbles to side and mutters a dark invocation. Black flames pour from her gnarled hands, splashing across the balustrade and the remaining kobold.
MOVE: Shown
STAND: Cast Burning Hands
DAM: 1d4 ⇒ 2 Reflex DC:15 for 1/2
mdt |
I'd roll the save, but it wouldn't matter, the zombie only had 1 hp left, so even with a +4 save from the Balustrade, he would die.
We're out of combat, but please pretend you're kind of limited by combat. IE: Don't move more than a full action at a time if you move. I need to be able to respond if you hit a trap, or whatever.
Eva Elsington |
"South or East? I'll climb over and get the door for you." Eva offered, knowing she could move easier than her friends could.
Eva's going to take 10 to climb the Balustrade she's directed too.
Mahb |
The hag waves her lantern in both directions. "South looks to be a tight squeeze. East, perhaps."
Mahb pulls Pye squawking from her pack. "Come out, you chicken. Fly down the southern passage quietly and see what's there."
