Right, which do you think would work better? A Ranger with Longbow (Archery Combat Style) or Ranger with Claws (Natural Combat Style)? Both would be Trappers still.

Longbow would do more damage and be more social, Natural would be more interesting but less help to the group in a big fight. This question is aimed at other applicants rather than the GM.

I'm not really an applicant at the moment but Longbow is the smarter choice I think.

Nah, I'll begin at level 1. I don't really see a point to starting at level 3, because the way I see it, you're more or less normal people of the world, not a cut above yet. It's only really running up to a maximum level of 10 anyway and is going to be on fast progression, though I'll likely just inform you all when you level up. No 3pp, mainly because I don't want to sift through a load of new content I'm not familiar with right now.

As the excluded GM, I'd say for me, Longbow. Ultimately though, I want everyone to play something they have their heart set on. :)

Alright. I had a pitch for a cool submission but it kind of hinged on a homebrew archetype. At any rate good luck with the game!

Feel free to share it because if it's not too much trouble to implement I'll consider making an exception. Thanks btw.

So the idea is a 3 person (possibly more) themed-joint submission. I know a few people already have characters and it's not my intention to tell anyone how to play so please bear with me.

For whoever would be interested:
Witch
Witchguard Ranger
Witchblade Fighter (<-Homebrew)

I like cohesive themed parties and ot presents great potential for inter-party dynamics without having to worry about backstories or motivations. I have some other ideas for potential backstories for the group but I'll wait to see if this is feasible for your game and if anyone is interested in going in on a group submission.

Other people can latch on to the theme too. A witch hunter Inquisitor could add an interesting dynamic, for example.

Given what was Submitted information so far, I could put forth an 3 person backstory submission,

Noya is a Hired body guard to Faelar's Noble character, and Erin happens to live in Noya's stuff helping Noya and Faelar's character from trouble they don't understand or know...

@Johnnycat93, you forgot the GM's request of spell-less ranger archetypes, this includes the Witchguard archetype.
Also this is Suppose to be a Low-magic campaign, so basing a joint theme with a High magic theme is counter to the GM's wish.

I didn't forget anything. Witchguard can be combined with Skirmisher to get rid of spells. Even so, the GM made mention of allowing a spell casting ranger if the reasoning made sense (such as being allied with a witch and granted minor powers through a bond with their patron).

Low magic is also relative. If Witch wasn't on the list of allowed classes then I wouldn't have pitched it.

Like I said, my aim is merely to suggest a concept, not alter the GMs intended campaign in any way. As far as I am aware my previous proposal does not go against what a low magic game should be in this case.

Grand Lodge

Ah, well the build works well enough without VMC. DM, what would you need for a submission?

@Johnnycat93
Must of missed the part of the GM allowing spell casting rangers under certain conditions

Now low magic may be relative in some respects, if you've read the Berserk Manga you should know that magic is NOT easily available, and most casters are FULL casters and there are very few unless your on Skellig (Elf Island), hence the GM's OP

GM OP wrote:
I'll be favouring non-magical characters over magical, but I do still want at least one magic user in the party and highly recommend anyone wanting to play a Pixie (Berserk calls them Elves) to focus in Magic, following the Pixie race I built below.

While the concept is fine and I do find it appealing, I believe it does go against what the GM is looking for, as mentioned the GM is looking at Low Magic party, and your theme is more of a High-magic party.

Again, my suggestion only included one caster (a witch). Witchguard can still be totally spell less. There is already a sorcerer submitted. I really don't see much of a difference. Are you perhaps assuming that I intend a high magic party?

This also a little beside the point. If the GM says they don't want it then I won't push the issue.

I think we'll need to agree to disagree on our definitions of what is Low-magic and what is High-magic.

That's alright, I appreciate the discussion nonetheless. If you wish to PM any criticism or suggestions feel free, otherwise I only want to reiterate that I don't wish to tell anyone what characters/classes they should play beyond anyone being interested in making submissions around a certain common theme.

I will be putting forth the Noble Ranger with Longbow. I feel it would work better for the group and I quite like Noya's backstory idea. I was considering going with Falconer or Beast Master, but if we already know each other maybe I should go with Battle Scout to help with granting everyone bonuses easier?

Sorry it has taken so long to make a character, things have been a little hectic at the moment. I assure you I will have him up by tomorrow evening.

Give me a description and I'll make a rendering of your character.

Grand Lodge

I'll put forth a Two handed fighter, Berserk always needs a solid damage dealer. I'm thinking a common footman who's village was burned down by raiders and is now searching for a new home.

Edit: removed a withdrawn entry

Balancer - It's all on page 1. :)

Pretty standard game type, with the exception of background skills being used instead of the normal system. It just gives you a few more flavour skills really. You might be familiar with the system already, though. Both you and Noya are two-handed melee types, so between you, damage will likely be high. This is good for survival, bad for diversity but it's not really a big deal and has no negative impact on my vision.

* 2 traits, no drawbacks but additional traits feat allowed
* 25pt buy
* improved unarmed strike for free
* Backstory with hopes, dreams and ambitions included
* Character description
* Background skills alternate system

Also, be sure to check the classes I've allowed if you were considering anything else. I've excluded a few and limited most melee/magic crossbreed classes to non-magical archetypes only.

Plus there's an Archetype I made specifically for the Rogue and for anyone wanting to compete with the Pixie submission we have so far, a Pixie race I built with the Race Builder. It's decently balanced.

Johnny - Thanks for letting me know. The idea of a closely knit group is a cool idea, but is kind of what I'm wanting to achieve over a period of time, rather than straight off the bat. I'm ideally wanting 3 fighter types (ranged and melee, not the class) and at most, 2 magic users. This also takes place after the Conviction Arc. It runs from where the Manga currently sits, so although there are still likely Witch hunts going on, that Arc finished and so there isn't likely to be any Witch hunting fights in this campaign.

I checked the Witchblade Fighter out and it plays very much like a Magus, which I removed from the playable classes before creating this thread, so that's partially why I won't be running with that.

I've got an over-arching theme I'm going with, but the best written character backstory will get the most spotlight to help get the plot to where I want it to be.

Thanks for the consideration. Unfortunately, the character I have to submit still hinges on that archetype. If you change your mind feel free to contact me, otherwise best of luck with the game!

Okay buddy, it's a shame but thanks for your interest!

Grand Lodge

Sweet, I'll just do some research and create a story. So far I've got a young man whose village had all the men conscripted to fight a war, his village unit was used a fodder to screen the man army from cavalry. They filled his head with ideas of glory and honor the let his village be torn to peices. Being one of the few survivors he stuck with the army until his service to his Lord was up then left to go home. Without it's menfolk the village had been overrun by bandits and the women raped and forced into slavery. Disgusted he returned to his Lord asking for help freeing his village. His Lord raised the place and rewarded him 4 silver peices for providing information on a bandit strong hold. As of the start of the adventure my Pc is disillusioned with his place in the world and is looking for a new home.

Grand Lodge

This. Sounds. Amazing!

I'll create a character once I get to a PC for all the character creation stuff.

This is Balancer's submission. Decided to stick with vanilla Fighter and try out the new advanced armor and weapon training treats paizo created.

All the crunch should be sound, feel free to look it over.

@GM
I was wondering. For the pixie. Would you consider giving them "Hover" as a static starting bonus feat?

Jura's background, be warned I got carried away and it's a bit of a wall of text.

Background:

As boy Jura lived a charmed life, in the village of Stone Crossing. His father was an architect from some big city who had helped build the massive stone bridge that gave the village it's name. He feel so in love with place that he had settled down there and took a local woman as his wife. Growing up Jura's father taught him that the most valuable tool a man can have is knowledge and privately tutored him, from him Jura learned history, architecture and the importance of knowledge. His uncles taught him the traditions that helped the village flourish, how to hunt, to swing a sword, how to ride and take punch. The local lord was known for being a tough merciless bastard but applied the same standards to himself and his family, as such he was respected and was known to be fair with a soft spot in his heart for the children and frequently visited the village to inspect it.

One day word of war reached the village and the Lord came, calling up all the men of eligible age to do their duty. So Jura waved goodbye to his mother and father, who had been struck lame by a heart attack the winter before and had yet recovered use of a leg and left. With him went 150 of the village's menfolk, and to much surprise the Lord sent with them his own son a man by the name of Perse.

Perse was regarded as the spiting image of his father, in looks and habits, so the menfolk of Stone Crossing banded naturally around him. When they arrived at the larger force under the command of the count who their lord had sworn fealty too they were armed made ready for combat. Through out what scant training they received they were told stories of glory and honor on the field of battle, that so long as the acted with bravery and valor they would earn their king's gratitude.

Thusly prepared they were given the task of maintaining the flank of the main army during a pitched battle. The people of his village were brave and loyal, the village worked hard by their lord was full of strong and disciplined men. They had been, at great expense to their lord, outfitted with proper armor and weapons. And then the enemy came, against infantry they could have fought an even fight, but what came storming out of the mist were the elite heavy cavalry of the enemy.

It was a slaughter, three times they sound the horns for reinforcements but none came. Even then they held the line, routing the cavalry when their commander was dragged from the saddle and brutally killed. They were expecting the line of commoners to fold and flee and were not prepared for the dogged desperation and almost insane fervor they fought with, none fled the field. This victory came at a horrifying cost, of the 150 men who took the field only 18 lived, of that only 6 would live to see another day. Somehow Jura and Perse had survived and they along with the remainders of the unit were commended for their valor, the glory tasted like ash in his mouth. From some of the other men he learned why none had come for them, apparently Perse's father had long been at odds with the count who lead the army and as a result he had delayed their reinforcements choosing to keep them in reserve for a 'more dire situation'. Perse was livid and challenged the count to a duel for revenge, to take place at sunrise the next day.

The next day Perse was founded in his cot, throat slit. By the end of the war Jura was the sole survivor of his village, wandering home a changed man, a shell of himself. When he arrived however he found that his home had been overrun by bandits, rouges and thieves. Disheartened he braved the den of iniquity only to find the women folk had been forced to work for the men's lusts and given to the sex trade. Enraged he fled, taking news of the village to the local lord. However in the time he had been away the lord of his youth had died of old age and with no heir the count had installed his own toady. One who was much less stubborn at the cost of being less competent.

The toady paid him for the information and ordered the village burned to the ground. Everyone in the village was killed, guilty and innocent alike. When he found out Jura in a fit of rage stormed the toady's manor and slew him, tossing his carcass out to the ravens.

From that day on he has found himself traveling the road, taking work where can find it as a mercenary and a bodyguard. His dreams still haunt him and it is only in battle when he feels alive any more.

@Erin - Sure. It's not a problem. It just didn't show in the race builder section so I missed it. It makes sense and just allows you to hover in place without making a fly check. Hardly game breaking and very fitting of a Pixie.

Thanks Jura, I'll check it out.

Of note, I may end up editing all of the backstories of those who make it into the game, mainly to keep it in line with the campaign and ensure it carries the berserk theme well. I'm pretty sure some of your stories won't need changing, though.

You may even want to add to your background when I decide on the plot motivations to get you all on the road. I have a few ideas right now. Just need to work with it.

Thanks, i added to my herolab file, will add it to my profile later :)

I will need some time to get a functional character together, I dont have enough time today, and can't really work on anything tomorrow.

@GM
since your pixie race is now at 18 RP, compared to the Human 8 RP
I ask that Humans be allowed to ADD 1 Alternate Human racial trait (Except, Dual Talent) to their racial traits to bring up the races RP total to about 12 RP compared to the 18 RP pixie.

It'll allow for adding stuff that fits with their backstory, physical appearance, or heritage. Also with Aquatic Ancestry someone could possibly make a half-merrow if they wanted.

For me, Hover doesn't make playing a Pixie unfair to Human players and I still see Humans as a far superior race, regardless of RP. As such, I won't be allowing anything extra. I've already given everyone improved unarmed strike for free and allowed you the background trait system when I was just going to run with the standard system. I think that's fair and if you think the Pixie is op, why not play that?

It has +2 to any ability score, damage reduction 5 of anything but cold iron, can cast cure mod naturally once per day only and can hover, but being sized tiny it will always provoke an AoO if it tries to fly in to attack physically. This is a pretty big weakness.

ThreeShades - Not a problem. It'll still take me about a week to prepare to start the campaign, because I just made this to gauge interest before I did much else, just so I knew I wasn't wasting my time.

Sounds fair, was only looking at it from one or two perspectives and did not see it in that perspective.

If I gave a large creature hover I'd understand, due to the ability any large creature with it gets, but tiny creatures only get the ability to hover in place, not cause debris to fly everywhere.

I have almost finished my character, just fleshing out the final details. I haven't done much more on the backstory other than what was posted originally.

Dual Talent: Some humans are uniquely skilled at maximizing their natural gifts. These humans pick two ability scores and gain a +2 racial bonus in each of those scores. This racial trait replaces the +2 bonus to any one ability score, the bonus feat, and the skilled traits.
Favored Enemy {Humans} (Ex): At 1st level, a ranger selects a creature type from the ranger favored enemies table. He gains a +2 bonus on Bluff, Knowledge, Perception, Sense Motive, and Survival checks against creatures of his selected type. Likewise, he gets a +2 bonus on weapon attack and damage rolls against them. A ranger may make Knowledge skill checks untrained when attempting to identify these creatures. At 5th level and every five levels thereafter (10th, 15th, and 20th level), the ranger may select an additional favored enemy. In addition, at each such interval, the bonus against any one favored enemy (including the one just selected, if so desired) increases by +2. If the ranger chooses humanoids or outsiders as a favored enemy, he must also choose an associated subtype, as indicated on the table below. (Note that there are other types of humanoid to choose from in the Pathfinder RPG Bestiary—those called out specifically on the table below are merely the most common.) If a specific creature falls into more than one category of favored enemy, the ranger’s bonuses do not stack; he simply uses whichever bonus is higher.
Track (Ex): A ranger adds half his level (minimum 1) to Survival skill checks made to follow or identify tracks.
Feathered Companion (Ex): At 1st level, a falconer earns the trust and companionship of a bird of prey. The bird can be of any type of large hunting or scavenging bird (even a vulture). This ability functions like the druid animal companion ability (which is part of the nature bond class feature), but the falconer must take the bird animal companion, and that companion has only half the normal hit points. The falconer cannot teach the bird of prey the work trick, but can teach it either the roam or distract trick for free. Whichever trick the falconer does not pick then can be picked as a trick later.
Easy Way or the Hard Way: You are skilled at subduing your enemies. Whenever you attack one of your favored enemies with a weapon that deals lethal damage and choose to deal nonlethal damage, you take only a –2 penalty on the attack roll instead of the normal –4.
Favoured Class Bonus : Add +1 hit point or +1 skill rank to the ranger’s animal companion. If the ranger ever replaces his companion, the new companion gains these bonus hit points or skill ranks.

Backstory:
Sebastian was the youngest of 3 brothers and 2 sisters, although he is the youngest he is also a twin. His twin sister Clara was only a few minutes older but that was enough to become the favourite. So he learnt to do as he was told and find other ways to entertain himself, this he achieved by learning falconry from the head huntsman. Upon noticing that his son was an avid falconer, his father decided to teach him how to shoot and even gave him the family bow once he had passed every test that was set before him. Although he was proud of this, he still felt like he had a lot to prove as he was the youngest. What he didn't know was that Clara was also doing everything she could to grab all the attention. She had noticed him getting the attention of their father and decided to pick up swordplay, as well as all the skills that a high born lady should have. This led to a rvialry between the two of them, which Sebastian thought was just his sister not liking him.
He would often go out for a week into the surrounding lands with some of the local hunters, he knew he was not going to inherit the family fortune or manor, so he saw no reason to avoid migling with those of lesser birth. It was on one such venture that when he returned he found his manor eerily quiet and the guards dead. He ran into the manor with the other huntsmen behind him and found his families bodies amongst the fallen, only one was still breathing. He rushed to Clara and tried to stem the bleeding until the healer arrived, before she fell uncounsious she confessed to being jealous of him and that he was her favourite of the family ... and that it had been the eldest brother; and heir of the family, Zach that had done this. Although she didn't know why he would do it, she told them where everyone else was. The healer then arrived and informed him it was unlikely that she would survive, but carefully took her to the village to begin treatment.
But as she was carrying her out teh building wne tup in flames and a familiar, shape appeared in the doorway with something in it's hand. The shadowed man threw the held object at Sebastians feet and ran. Sebastian bent down to pick up the tiems, when it was in hands hands he felt how wet and slippery it was ... it was his fathers head! He let out a cry of anger and sorrow and chased his brother. But when he got outside he had vanished, then everything went black.

When he came to the manor was still smoldering, but only as a husk. There was none around, other than the bodies of his family, so he looked around for his sister and the villagers, but found nothing. He dug some graves and buried his family in each, making sure to take his father's armour before covering them. He placed an Ash seed in each grave and vowed to get justice for them. He headed down to the town but it was almost deserted, only the elderly were left and they were scared. He managed to find a retired leatherworker and had he resize the armour to fit him before paying him and putting it on. He left the village after thanking them and swearing justice, it was then that Bella flew from the forest to him, he broke down again and cried tears of relief as his friend was also alive. Once he had regained his composure, he headed out on his journey.

Stay (DC 15): The animal stays in place, waiting for you to return. It does not challenge other creatures that come by, though it still defends itself if it needs to.

@Faelar
Want me to work on part that joins our backstories or are you dropping the idea?
Also how tall is Sebastian?

I like the idea of the joint backstory, but I figure wait to see who gets selected before adjusting the backstories around. The GM has read that a joint backstory is a high possibility, so hopefully if we are both selected we can alter things from there.

Sebastian is 5'10"

Okay my latest idea is an alchemist who acted as a medic for the Kushan army.

I would like to use the chirurgeon archetype for its focus on being a healer. But i would also like to have the cognatogen in place of mutagen, which is possible either through the mindchemist or inspired chemist archetypes. Because I envision her to be more of a cerebral character than physical.

The mindchemist is not compatible with chirurgeon (they both replace poison use) so that leaves the inspired chemist, which has the ability to gain investigator talents in place of alchemical discoveries. Since the investigator is not on the list of allowed classes, i want to check with you if the alchemist archetype is still okay. I don't actually need the investigator talents anyway so im happy to use the archetype without them.

I would like to get a rough draft made that we can both agree on and take ideas to flesh out our current backstories so even if only one of us gets in the other can be at least partially in due to the backstory.

Remember though, those who don't make it can still come in as Apostles. You get to submit your own ideas to me and I'll make them to how I think they should work. So anybody is allowed in to a degree. :)

Three - I'm checking that out for you now, but I like the theme you have for your female Kushan. :)

I'll let you know after I've had a look if all's good, to not waste your time in case you make a build and I don't like the idea. Give me about half an hour. Will probably take far less time, mind.

Three - Yea, that looks like a pretty cool idea to me, so an Inspired Chirurgeon Chemist is perfectly acceptable. It's all legit and doesn't overlap, so I'm happy and I'm sure you will be too.

I actually didn't list any of the Advanced Classes purely because I'm not familiar with them. I've not really used them or had a need to look them up, up to this point, so to save a lot of problems down the line, I simply felt it best to exclude them, but I read what Inspiring Cognatogen does and know how inspiration works in DnD 5e, seeing it as Paizo's answer to that, so I really don't have an issue with it. It's simple enough to use and keep track of.

I'll mostly be leaving everything about your character down to you, using only their backgrounds for story purposes and similar things alike. I'll trust you all to play properly and I'll lightly throw some homebrew in the mix when I feel it's necessary.

I'll be editing all of your stories slightly (once submitted), so don't worry too much about where you'll be, as I will keep very true to your character intentions and original story. It's more to give it that Berserk flair and get you geared into this world.

I've just completed Jura's and although I've not heard back from him just yet, I'm confident he'll be happy with it and for anyone wanting to play who's not made a character yet, it may be worth thinking about where you want to be, what kind of terrain you'll be in, or what famous location you'll want to be in and why. The Berserk wiki is a good place to check this out and make decisions that way.

I know different parts of America are 5-8 hours behind England (where I live, the UK), so instead of midnight Sunday, I'll close interest on Monday and make my selections for the party I'd most love to go with during the week. This will give you extra time to flesh anything out.

Thanks for all of the interest you've shown so far and hopefully I'll get to see some more submissions over the next few days. :)

Got some character renders made,
Noya's is very close to being final, Sebastian and Jura's renders are first passes.

Noya
Sebastian
Jura

Are you using the character creation from Black Desert? I always wanted that game purely for the character creation. Not sure what the deal is with the hyper exaggerated thighs though!

Seb looks cool, though more like Faelar's actual Faelar character haha. He's got the most realistic anatomy. It's cool to be able to do that, though.

My PC is dead atm, so I have no chance myself. My Laptop is far too weak.

I'm using Daz Studio for character rendering, Daz is Free, but not all the content is..
and am using the GPU powered Iray rendering system (comes with Daz)
over the CPU powered 3Dlieght rendering system (also comes with Daz studio).

For big scenes Iray needs a lot of memory, a Nvidia card with 2GB or more is needed.
Or it'll go to CPU rendering which takes a lot longer.

I Don't have that kind of armour in stock for Genesis 2 Males, so I'll be using shaders to change the materials, then even leather clothes looks like chainmail.

Also if I do a group render, then I need a character made, and same would be true with the height reference image.
