Item that stops ability damage

Advice

Any magic items I could equip a powerful barbarian minotaur that will prevent ability damage? I have a PC who can throw an empowered spell that can deal over 10 points of Intelligence damage, it would be very anticlimactic if such a spell were to defeat the enemy in one or two attacks.

Ring of Inner Fortitude

Of course, if they beat the monster and get that for loot, it's a pretty powerful item for PCs.

What about boosting saves, or having some sort of spell immunity?

Any item which grants Spell Immunity or Death Ward is likely to help. Also if:

Some spells and abilities cause you to take an ability penalty for a limited amount of time. While in effect, these penalties function just like ability damage, but they cannot cause you to fall unconscious or die. In essence, penalties cannot decrease your ability score to less than 1.

Not sure about you but a Barbarian Minotaur with 1 Int is probably still fairly dangerous if not a particularly bright tactician.

Give him a buddy with Lesser Restoration or Restoration. Or an appropriate potion.

Ring of Counterspells
and yes any such items are extremely likely to end up in the hands of the characters

Most spells cannot actually render an character unconscious through ability damage, they cannot reduce scores below 1. So, while it might be inconvenient to the barbarian to have his int reduced to 1, he can do all of his shtick that he normally could (as barbarians rarely rely on anything that requires int).

Thanks for the help, I sure wish I could have powerful brutes solo a group of PCs, but without some spellcaster buddies to help, the villain goes down real quick.

Yeah....Pathfinder as a game doesn't work that way. Action economy makes such a thing virtually impossible.

Anything strong enough to actually fight toe to toe with the entire party by themselves is also likely strong enough to kill an individual party member each round.

The best combats usually involve an approximately equal number of enemies as their are combatants in the PC group (don't forget to include animal companion, eidolons, undead, and anything else that actually involves itself in combat). In the current Hell's Vengeance campaign I'm in there are probably close to 20 PC "characters" due to one player being a necromancer and the other playing being a Devil binder, plus the rest of the party. Normally it wouldn't even be allowed since we are a party of 6 players, but we play evil so rarely that the opportunity to play a devil binder or necromancer come up so rarely.

Which spell does int damage, again? Or did you mean penalty?

Just have one of the Undead Anatomy spells cast on the Monitor.
As an Undead Type, you are not subject to nonlethal damage, ability drain, or energy drain. Immune to damage to its physical ability scores (Constitution, Dexterity, and Strength), as well as to exhaustion and fatigue effects.

Undead Anatomy does not give you the Undead type. It merely treats you as undead for certain specific effects.

Rather than use a powerful magic item, have him take a poition of Stalwart Resolve at like CL 6 or something, this should prevent the penalty for the fight duration and can mitigate some damage til the total damage equals his stat.
